In spite of giving tough fight, gods lost and, but, as his wife was
ਗਏ ਜੂਝ ਜੋਧਾ ਮਹਾ ਐਠਿਯਾਰੇ ॥
ge joojh jodhaa mahaa aitthiyaare |
ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਐ ਕੈ ਹਕਾਰੇ ॥੨੧॥
rahe te chahoon or ai kai hakaare |21|
virtuous, he (Jalandhar) could not be killed.(21)
ਕਹਾ ਜਾਤ ਦੇਵੇਸ ਜਾਨੇ ਨ ਦੈ ਹੈ ॥

ਇਸੀ ਛੇਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਤੋਹਿ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥

ਮੰਡੇ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਨਾਨ ਬਾਜਾਨ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥

ਸਭੈ ਦਾਨਵਾਨੇਸ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sabhai daanavaanes ko bhes dhaariyo |
ਜਿਸੀ ਬਾਗ ਮੈ ਨਾਰ ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
jisee baag mai naar brindaa biraajai |
ਲਖੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਕੰਦ੍ਰਪ ਕੋ ਦਰਪੁ ਭਾਜੈ ॥੨੩॥

ਜਾਲੰਧਰ ਕੇ ਭੇਸ ਧਰਿ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚ︀ਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaalandhar ke bhes dhar tahaa pahoonchayo jaae |
Then Vishnu thought over the plan and disguised himself as Devil (Jalandhar).
ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਪਛਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਰੀਝਤ ਭਈ ਸੁ ਭਾਇ ॥੨੪॥
pat ko roop pachhaan kai reejhat bhee su bhaae |24|
The garden, where Brinda was staying, captivated every body’s mind, even Cupid would getjealous.(24)

sabh kandrap ko darap nivaariyo |
He enjoyed with her invariably and illuminated the Cupid’s ego.
ਉਤੈ ਜੁਧ ਜੋ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
autai judh jo bhayo sunaaoo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿਰਾਊ ॥੨੫॥
taa te tumare hridai siraaoo |25|
‘Now I will narrate you the fighting which went on here, which would sooth your feeling.’(25)

ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਮਾਰੂ ਤਿਸੀ ਖੇਤ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

ਦਿਤ੍ਰਯਾਦਿਤ ਗਾੜੇ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੨੬॥

On one side the devils were strong and on the other, the gods were equall good.
ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਬਾਜੀ ਜਿਰਹ ਬੀਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
kahoon raaj baajee jirah beer bhaaree |
ਕਹੂੰ ਤੇਗ ਔ ਤੀਰ ਕਾਤੀ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥

Both had spears and tridents and dIe progeny of both ofthem was full involved.(27)
ਕਹੂੰ ਟੋਪ ਟੂਟੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਗ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

ਕਹੂੰ ਜ੍ਵਾਨ ਜੇਬੇ ਸੁ ਕਾਤੀ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥

ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਥਮੈ ਸਤ ਟਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
brindaa ko prathamai sat ttaariyo |
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੈ ਜਾਲੰਧਰ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
taa paachhai jaalandhar maariyo |
This way he ravaged her chastity and then killed Jalandhar.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਰਾਜ ਆਪਨੋ ਲਿਯੋ ॥
bahuro raaj aapano liyo |
ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਮਾਝ ਬਧਾਵੋ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੨੯॥
sur pur maajh badhaavo kiyo |29|
Then he regained his sovereignty and earned honours in the heaven.(29)

ਅਪਨਾ ਜਨੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ॥

He Himself saves His humble servant.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aatth pehar jan kai sang basio man te naeh bisaario |1| rahaau |
Twenty-four hours a day, He dwells with His humble servant; He never forgets him from His Mind. ||1||Pause||
ਬਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਕੁਲੁ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
baran chihan naahee kichh pekhio daas kaa kul na bichaario |
The Lord does not look at his color or form; He does not consider the ancestry of His slave.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥
kar kirapaa naam har deeo sehaj subhaae savaario |1|
Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Name, and embellishes him with intuitive ease. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਓ ॥
mahaa bikham agan kaa saagar tis te paar utaario |
The ocean of fire is treacherous and difficult, but he is carried across.
ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਗਸਾਨੋ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥੪॥
pekh pekh naanak bigasaano punah punah balihaario |2|3|4|
Seeing, seeing Him, Nanak blossoms forth, over and over again, a sacrifice to Him. ||2||3||4||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਹਿਓ ॥

ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kott apraadh mitteh khin bheetar taa kaa dukh na rahio |1| rahaau |
- millions of sins are erased in an instant, and pain is relieved. ||1||Pause||
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਇਓ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਹਿਓ ॥
khojat khojat bheo bairaagee saadhoo sang lahio |
Seeking and searching, I have become detached; I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਗਹਿਓ ॥੧॥
sagal tiaag ek liv laagee har har charan gahio |1|
Renouncing everything, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord. I grab hold of the feet of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਓ ॥
kehat mukat sunate nisataare jo jo saran peo |
Whoever chants His Name is liberated; whoever listens to it is saved, as is anyone who seeks His Sanctuary.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੫॥
simar simar suaamee prabh apunaa kahu naanak anad bheo |2|4|5|
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God the Lord and Master, says Nanak, I am in ecstasy! ||2||4||5||

O Lord, ocean of peace, please bless me with the supreme status. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਚਲਾ ਗਹਾਇਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਬੀਧੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਖੋਰੀ ॥
anchalaa gahaaeo jan apune kau man beedho prem kee khoree |
He has inspired His humble servant to grasp the hem of His robe; his mind is pierced through with the intoxication of divine love.
ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੧॥
jas gaavat bhagat ras upajio maaeaa kee jaalee toree |1|
Singing His Praises, love wells up within the devotee, and the trap of Maya is broken. ||1||
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਪੇਖਉ ਹੋਰੀ ॥
pooran poor rahe kirapaa nidh aan na pekhau horee |
The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; I do not see any other at all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਓ ਦਾਸੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੫॥੬॥
naanak mel leeo daas apunaa preet na kabahoo thoree |2|5|6|
He has united slave Nanak with Himself; His Love never diminishes. ||2||5||6||

O my mind, chant, and meditate on the Lord.
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kabahoo na bisarahu man mere te aatth pehar gun gaaein |1| rahaau |
I shall never forget Him from my mind; twenty-four hours a day, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਇਣ ॥
saadhoo dhoor krau nit majan sabh kilabikh paap gavaaein |
I take my daily cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy, and I am rid of all my sins.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥੧॥
pooran poor rahe kirapaa nidh ghatt ghatt disatt samaaein |1|
The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; He is seen to be contained in each and every heart. ||1||
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਲਾਇਣ ॥
jaap taap kott lakh poojaa har simaran tul na laaein |
Hundreds of thousands and millions of meditations, austerities and worships are not equal to remembering the Lord in meditation.
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥੬॥੭॥
due kar jorr naanak daan maangai tere daasan daas dasaaein |2|6|7|
With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of Your slaves. ||2||6||7||

ਮੇਰੈ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥

The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is everything for me.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa saadhoo sang milio satigur deeno daan |1| rahaau |
Granting His Grace, He has led me to join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the True Guru has granted this gift. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਹਾਰਾ ਗਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sukhadaataa dukh bhanjanahaaraa gaau keeratan pooran giaan |
Sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Lord, the Giver of peace, the Destroyer of pain; He shall bless you with perfect spiritual wisdom.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
kaam krodh lobh khandd khandd keenae binasio moorr abhimaan |1|
Sexual desire, anger and greed shall be shattered and destroyed, and your foolish ego will be dispelled. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
kiaa gun tere aakh vakhaanaa prabh antarajaamee jaan |
What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I chant? O God, You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੭॥੮॥

I seek the Sanctuary of Your Lotus Feet, O Lord, ocean of peace; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||7||8||
