su mai kehat ho teer tihaare |
(Urvassi) ‘This is the tradition of our household, I must tell you,
ਚਲ ਕਿਸਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
chal kisahoon ke dhaam na jaahee |
ਚਲਿ ਆਵੈ ਛੋਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪੬॥
chal aavai chhorai tih naahee |46|
‘Never to go to the house of any body but if some one came over, never to disappoint.’ (46)
ਜਬ ਯਹ ਬਾਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jab yeh baat triyeh sun paaee |
ਨਿਜੁ ਮਤਿ ਬੀਚ ਯਹੈ ਠਹਰਾਈ ॥
nij mat beech yahai tthaharaaee |
When the lady (Rani) learnt this, she ascertained,
ਹੌਂ ਚਲਿ ਧਾਮ ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਜੈਹੌ ॥
hauan chal dhaam meet ke jaihau |
ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੇ ਭੋਗ ਕਮੈਹੌ ॥੪੭॥
man bhaavat ke bhog kamaihau |47|
‘I will walk to his home and fully gratify myself by making love.(47)

ਆਜੁ ਪਯਾਨ ਕਰੋਗੀ ਤਹਾ ਸਖੀ ਭੂਖਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਨੂਪ ਬਨਾਊ ॥
aaj payaan karogee tahaa sakhee bhookhan basatr anoop banaaoo |
‘Oh, my friends, I will go there today putting my best clothes on.
ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਬਦ︀ਯੋ ਮਿਲਿਬੋ ਨਿਸ ਹੋਤ ਨਹੀ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਆਊ ॥
meet ke dhaam badayo milibo nis hot nahee ab hee mil aaoo |
‘I have determined to meet my master, and I have resolved to go right now.
ਸਾਵਨ ਮੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਨ ਕੇ ਲੀਏ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਤਰਿ ਜਾਊ ॥
saavan mo man bhaavan ke lee saat samundran ke tar jaaoo |
‘To satiate myself! can cross over even seven seas.
ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਉਪਾਉ ਕਰੌ ਸਜਨੀ ਪਿਯ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਕੈ ਤਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਊ ॥੪੮॥
kror upaau karau sajanee piy ko tan kai tan bhettan paaoo |48|
‘Oh, my friends, with thousands of efforts, I am longing for the body to encounter the body.(47)

ਆਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਨ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
aan triyaa sau bhog na keeyo |
(Urvassi) ‘Since my birth, I have not made love to many woman.
ਜੌ ਐਸੋ ਚਿਤ ਰਿਝਿਯੋ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ॥
jau aiso chit rijhiyo tihaaro |
ਤੌ ਕਹਾ ਬਸਿ ਚਲਤ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੪੯॥
tau kahaa bas chalat hamaaro |49|
‘But if you ardently desire, I will not restrain myself.(49)
ਨ ਪਿਯਾਨ ਧਾਮ ਤਵ ਕਰੋ ॥
n piyaan dhaam tav karo |
ਨਰਕ ਪਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਚਿਤ ਡਰੋ ॥
narak paran te at chit ddaro |
‘Afraid of going to the hell, I cannot come to your house.
ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਧਾਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਐਯਹੁ ॥
tum hee dhaam hamaare aiyahu |
ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਮੈਯਹੁ ॥੫੦॥
man bhaavat ko bhog kamaiyahu |50|
‘You better come to my house and enjoy love-making to your satisfaction.’(50)
ਬਾਤੇ ਕਰਤ ਨਿਸਾ ਪਰਿ ਗਈ ॥
baate karat nisaa par gee |
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਭਈ ॥
triy kau kaam karaa at bhee |
Talking and talking, the dusk approached and her desire for sex kindled.
ਅਧਿਕ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
adhik anoopam bhes banaayo |
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਤਿਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਓਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥੫੧॥
taa kau tih grih or patthaayo |51|
She sent him to his house and herself adorned beautiful clothes.’(51)
ਤਬ ਮੋਹਨ ਨਿਜੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਚਲਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
tab mohan nij grih chal aayo |
ਅਧਿਕ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
adhik anoopam bhes banaayo |
Mohan retUrned to his house and put on attractive clothes.
ਟਕਿਯਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਟੀ ਉਰਬਸੀ ॥
ttakiyan kee chapattee urabasee |
ਮੋਮ ਮਾਰਿ ਆਸਨ ਸੌ ਕਸੀ ॥੫੨॥
mom maar aasan sau kasee |52|
She hung the bags full of coins around her neck, and, with wax, covered her aasan, part ofthe body in between the two legs).(52)
ਬਿਖਿ ਕੋ ਲੇਪ ਤਵਨ ਮੌ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
bikh ko lep tavan mau keeyo |
ਸਿਵਹਿ ਰਿਝਾਇ ਮਾਗ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਯੋ ॥
siveh rijhaae maag kar leeyo |
On top of that she applied poison, which she had obtained from the reptiles after pleasing Shiva.
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ ਤਵਨ ਸੌ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jaa ke ang tavan sau laagai |
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਜਮ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੫੩॥
taa kai lai praanan jam bhaagai |53|
So that whom-so-ever came in contact, would be poisoned to enable Yama, the god of death, to take the soul away.(53)
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਨਾਰਿ ਗਈ ਵਹੁ ਆਈ ॥
tab lau naar gee vahu aaee |
ਕਾਮਾਤੁਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
kaamaatur hvai kai lapattaaee |
Then the woman reached there, extremely lured by the urge of the Cupid.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਭੇਦ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥
taa ko bhed kachhoo neh jaanayo |
ਉਰਬਸਿ ਕੌ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਛਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥੫੪॥
aurabas kau kar purakh pachhaanayo |54|
She had not envisaged the truth and had misconstrued Urvassi as a man.(54)
ਤਾ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਬ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
taa so bhog adhik jab keeno |
ਮਨ ਮੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਖ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
man mai maan adhik sukh leeno |
With full contentment she made love with her.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਚੜੇ ਮਤ ਤਬ ਭਈ ॥
bikh ke charre mat tab bhee |
ਜਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਬਿਖੈ ਚਲਿ ਗਈ ॥੫੫॥
jam ke dhaam bikhai chal gee |55|
When, with the effect of poison, she was extremely exhilarated, she left for the abode of Yama.(55)
ਉਰਬਸਿ ਜਬ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
aurabas jab taa ko badh keeyo |
ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਗ ਤਬ ਲੀਯੋ ॥
sur pur ko maarag tab leeyo |
After when Urvassi had exterminated her, she departed for heaven too.
ਜਹਾ ਕਾਲ ਸੁਭ ਸਭਾ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
jahaa kaal subh sabhaa banaaee |
ਉਰਬਸਿ ਯੌ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਹ ਆਈ ॥੫੬॥
aurabas yau chal kai teh aaee |56|
Where Dharam Raja had his council in session, she arrived there.(56)
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬੁ ਤਿਨ ਦੀਯੋ ॥
taa kau amit darab tin deeyo |
ਮੇਰੋ ਬਡੋ ਕਾਮ ਤੁਮ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
mero baddo kaam tum keeyo |
He honoured her saying, ‘You have done a great service to me.
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਜਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
nij pat kau jin triyeh sanghaariyo |
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੫੭॥
taa ko tai ih bhaat prahaariyo |57|
‘The woman who had killed her husband, you have terminated her life like this.’(57)

ਜਾ ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥
jaa dukh te jin isatriyeh nij pat hanayo risaae |
The agony, through which the woman had killed her husband, was inflicted upon her too.
ਤਿਸੀ ਦੋਖ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਧੰਨ︀ਯ ਧੰਨ︀ਯ ਜਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੫੮॥
tisee dokh maariyo tisai dhanay dhanay jam raae |58|
Praiseworthy is the King of Yama, as she was meted out the same treatment.(58)

ਪੂਰਬ ਦੇਸ ਕੋ ਏਸ ਰੂਪੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਰਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਅਲਕੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਜੈਸੋ ॥
poorab des ko es roopesvar raajat hai alakesvar jaiso |
Roopeshwar Raja of the west was as good as the Raja of Alkeswar.
ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਿਧੌ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਿ ਸੁਰੇਸਨ ਤੈਸੋ ॥
roop apaar kariyo karataar kidhau asuraar suresan taiso |
He was so much handsome that, even, Indra, the enemy of the devils could not match.
ਭਾਰ ਭਰੇ ਭਟ ਭੂਧਰ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਭੀਰ ਪਰੇ ਰਨ ਏਕਲ ਜੈਸੋ ॥
bhaar bhare bhatt bhoodhar kee sam bheer pare ran ekal jaiso |
If a war were inflicted upon him, he would fight like a mountain.
ਜੰਗ ਜਗੇ ਅਰਧੰਗ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਮਕਰਧ੍ਵਜ ਕੈਸੋ ॥੧॥
jang jage aradhang kare ar sundar hai makaradhvaj kaiso |1|
If a group of braves came to kill him, he alone would figh t like one hundred soldiers.(1)

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਤ ਹੋਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
taa ke poot hot grihi naahee |
ਚਿੰਤ ਯਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
chint yahai prajaa man maahee |
But his subject was getting worried as he was not blessed with a son.
ਤਬ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਅਕੁਲਾਈ ॥
tab tih maat adhik akulaaee |
ਏਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਤਿਹ ਨਿਕਟ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
ek triyaa tih nikatt bulaaee |2|
One day, extremely perturbed, his mother called in a lady.(2)
ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਏਕ ਰਾਵ ਕੀ ਲਹੀ ॥
kanayaa ek raav kee lahee |
ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਬਰਬੇ ਕਹ ਕਹੀ ॥
so nrip ko barabe keh kahee |
Who selected a girl for the Raja and she requested Raja to marry her.
ਰਾਇ ਪੁਰਾ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਨੀ ॥
raae puraa ke bheetar aanee |
ਰੋਪੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
ropesvar ke man neh maanee |3|
She presented her to the Raja but he did not approve her.(3)
ਜਨ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਨ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
jan keh rahe bayaah na keeyo |
ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਦੀਯੋ ॥
taeh bisaar chit te deeyo |
People pleaded but the Raja did accept her and counted her out of his mind.
ਤਵਨ ਨਾਰਿ ਹਠਨਿ ਹਠਿ ਗਹੀ ॥
tavan naar hatthan hatth gahee |
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਬਰਿਸ ਬਹੁਤ ਰਹੀ ॥੪॥
taa ke dvaar baris bahut rahee |4|
But, the lady with determination, stayed put out side his door steps.( 4)

Fifth Mehl:
ਵਿਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਖ ॥
vin tudh hor ji manganaa sir dukhaa kai dukh |
To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries.
ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ॥
dehi naam santokheea utarai man kee bhukh |
Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied.
ਗੁਰਿ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਨੁਖ ॥੨॥
gur van tin hariaa keetiaa naanak kiaa manukh |2|
The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. O Nanak, is it any wonder that He blesses human beings as well? ||2||

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
so aisaa daataar manahu na veesarai |
Such is that Great Giver; may I never forget Him from my mind.
ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾ ਸਰੈ ॥
gharree na muhat chasaa tis bin naa sarai |
I cannot survive without Him, for an instant, for a moment, for a second.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੁਕਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
antar baahar sang kiaa ko luk karai |
Inwardly and outwardly, He is with us; how can we hide anything from Him?
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
jis pat rakhai aap so bhavajal tarai |
One whose honor He Himself has preserved, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
bhagat giaanee tapaa jis kirapaa karai |
He alone is a devotee, a spiritual teacher, and a disciplined pratictioner of meditation, whom the Lord has so blessed.
ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥
so pooraa paradhaan jis no bal dharai |
He alone is perfect and renowned as supreme, whom the Lord has blessed with His power.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ॥
jiseh jaraae aap soee ajar jarai |
He alone endures the unendurable, whom the Lord inspires to endure it.
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥
tis hee miliaa sach mantru gur man dharai |3|
And he alone meets the True Lord, within whose mind the Guru's Mantra is implanted. ||3||

Salok, Fifth Mehl:
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਰੰਗੜੇ ਆਲਾਪਤ ਸਭ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
dhan su raag surangarre aalaapat sabh tikh jaae |
Blessed are those beautiful Ragas which, when chanted, quench all thirst.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪਦੇ ਨਾਉ ॥
dhan su jant suhaavarre jo guramukh japade naau |
Blessed are those beautiful people who, as Gurmukh, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinee ik man ik araadhiaa tin sad balihaarai jaau |
I am a sacrifice to those who single-mindedly worship and adore the One Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਛਦੇ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
tin kee dhoorr ham baachhade karamee palai paae |
I yearn for the dust of their feet; by His Grace, it is obtained.
ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jo rate rang govid kai hau tin balihaarai jaau |
I am a sacrifice to those who are imbued with love for the Lord of the Universe.
ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥
aakhaa birathaa jeea kee har sajan melahu raae |
I tell them the state of my soul, and pray that I may be united with the Sovereign Lord King, my Friend.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur poorai melaaeaa janam maran dukh jaae |
The Perfect Guru has united me with Him, and the pains of birth and death have departed.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
jan naanak paaeaa agam roop anat na kaahoo jaae |1|
Servant Nanak has found the inaccessible, infinitely beautiful Lord, and he will not go anywhere else. ||1||

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪਲੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
dhan su velaa gharree dhan dhan moorat pal saar |
Blessed is that time, blessed is that hour, blessed is that second, excellent is that instant;
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੜਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਰੁ ॥
dhan su dinas sanjogarraa jit dditthaa gur darasaar |
blessed is that day, and that opportunity, when I gazed upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
man keea ichhaa pooreea har paaeaa agam apaar |
The mind's desires are fulfilled, when the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord is obtained.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟਾ ਮੋਹੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
haumai tuttaa moharraa ik sach naam aadhaar |
Egotism and emotional attachment are eradicated, and one leans only on the Support of the True Name.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇਵ ਹਰਿ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jan naanak lagaa sev har udhariaa sagal sansaar |2|
O servant Nanak, one who is committed to the Lord's service - the whole world is saved along with him. ||2||

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ॥

How rare are those who are blessed to praise the Lord, in devotional worship.
ਸਉਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਲੀਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
saupe jis bhanddaar fir puchh na leeteean |
Those who are blessed with the Lord's treasures are not called to give their account again.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ॥
jis no lagaa rang se rang ratiaa |
Those who are imbued with His Love are absorbed in ecstasy.
ਓਨਾ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਇਕਾ ਉਨ ਭਤਿਆ ॥
onaa iko naam adhaar ikaa un bhatiaa |
They take the Support of the One Name; the One Name is their only food.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਭੋਗਈ ॥
onaa pichhai jag bhunchai bhogee |
For their sake, the world eats and enjoys.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਬੁ ਓਨਾਹਾ ਜੋਗਈ ॥
onaa piaaraa rab onaahaa jogee |
Their Beloved Lord belongs to them alone.
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
jis miliaa gur aae tin prabh jaaniaa |
The Guru comes and meets them; they alone know God.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਜਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
hau balihaaree tin ji khasamai bhaaniaa |4|
I am a sacrifice to those who are pleasing to their Lord and Master. ||4||

ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai naal mai dosatee har ikasai naal mai rang |
My friendship is with the One Lord alone; I am in love with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
har iko meraa sajano har ikasai naal mai sang |
The Lord is my only friend; my companionship is with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai naal mai gosatte muhu mailaa karai na bhang |
My conversation is with the One Lord alone; He never frowns, or turns His face away.
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੋੜੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
jaanai birathaa jeea kee kade na morrai rang |
He alone knows the state of my soul; He never ignores my love.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har iko meraa masalatee bhanan gharran samarath |
He is my only counselor, all-powerful to destroy and create.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਿਆ ਜਗ ਹਥੁ ॥
har iko meraa daataar hai sir daatiaa jag hath |
The Lord is my only Giver. He places His hand upon the heads of the generous in the world.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har ikasai dee mai ttek hai jo sir sabhanaa samarath |
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ॥
satigur sant milaaeaa masatak dhar kai hath |
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
vaddaa saahib guroo milaaeaa jin taariaa sagal jagat |
The Guru led me to meet the greatest Lord and Master; He saved the whole world.
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥
man keea ichhaa pooreea paaeaa dhur sanjog |
The desires of the mind are fulfilled; I have attained my pre-destined Union with God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗ ॥੧॥
naanak paaeaa sach naam sad hee bhoge bhog |1|
Nanak has obtained the True Name; He enjoys the enjoyments forever. ||1||
