ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਇ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਜੋਧੇ ਆਏ ਚੰਡਿ ਉਪਰ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੈ ਬਨੀ ਠਨੀ ॥
aagiaa paae sunbh kee su mahaabeer dheer jodhe aae chandd upar su krodh kai banee tthanee |
On receiving orders from king Sumbh, the warriors of great strength and composure, marched towards Chandi in great rage.,
ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਲੈ ਬਾਨ ਅਉ ਕਮਾਨ ਕਾਲੀ ਕਿਰਪਾਨ ਛਿਨ ਮਧਿ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਬਲ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੀ ਹਨੀ ਅਨੀ ॥
chanddikaa lai baan aau kamaan kaalee kirapaan chhin madh kai kai bal sunbh kee hanee anee |
Chandika taking her bow and arrow and Kali her sword, with great force destroyed the army in an instant.,
ਡਰਤ ਜਿ ਖੇਤ ਮਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਕੀਨੇ ਬਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਬਿਚਲ ਬਿਥਰ ਐਸੇ ਭਾਜਗੀ ਅਨੀ ਕਿਨੀ ॥
ddarat ji khet mahaa pret keene baanan so bichal bithar aise bhaajagee anee kinee |
Many left the battlefield out of fear, many of them became corpses with arrows, routed from its place the army hath fled helter skelter like this:
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰੂਥਲ ਮੈ ਸਬੂਹ ਬਹੇ ਪਉਨ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਧੂਰ ਉਡਿ ਚਲੇ ਹੁਇ ਕੇ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਕਨੀ ਕਨੀ ॥੧੮੧॥
jaise baaroothal mai sabooh bahe paun hoon ke dhoor udd chale hue ke kottik kanee kanee |181|
Just as in the desert, millions of the particles of dust, fly away before the violent wind.181.,

ਖਗ ਲੈ ਕਾਲੀ ਅਉ ਚੰਡੀ ਕੁਵੰਡਿ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਕੈ ਦਾਨਵ ਇਉ ਦਬਟੇ ਹੈ ॥
khag lai kaalee aau chanddee kuvandd bilok kai daanav iau dabatte hai |
Kali, taking the double-edged sword and Chandi her bow, have threatened the forces of the enemy like this:,
ਕੇਤਕ ਚਾਬ ਗਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਕੇਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਚੰਡਿ ਕਟੇ ਹੈ ॥
ketak chaab gee mukh kaalikaa ketin ke sir chandd katte hai |
Many have been chewed by Kali with her mouth, and many have been beheaded by Chandi.,
ਸ੍ਰਉਨਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਭਇਓ ਧਰ ਮੈ ਰਨ ਛਾਡ ਗਏ ਇਕ ਦੈਤ ਫਟੇ ਹੈ ॥
sraunat sindh bheo dhar mai ran chhaadd ge ik dait fatte hai |
A sea of blood hath appeared on the earth, many warriors have left the battlefield and many are lying wounded.
ਸੁੰਭ ਪੈ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਇਉ ਬਹੁ ਬੀਰ ਮਹਾ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਲਟੇ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੨॥
sunbh pai jaae kahee tin iau bahu beer mahaa tih tthaur latte hai |182|
Those who have fled, they have told Sumbh like this: “Many heroes are lying (dead in that place.”182.,

ਦੇਖਿ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਕੀਨੋ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
dekh bheaanak judh ko keeno bisan bichaar |
Seeing such a violent war, Vishnu thought,
ਸਕਤਿ ਸਹਾਇਤ ਕੇ ਨਮਿਤ ਭੇਜੀ ਰਨਹਿ ਮੰਝਾਰ ॥੧੮੩॥
sakat sahaaeit ke namit bhejee raneh manjhaar |183|
And sent the powers for the help of the goddess in the battlefield.183.,

SWAYYA,
ਆਇਸ ਪਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਸਕਤੀ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਹਾ ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਪੈ ਆਈ ॥
aaeis paae sabhai sakatee chal kai tahaa chandd prachandd pai aaee |
As commanded by Vishnu, the powers of all the gods came for help for powerful Chandi.,
ਦੇਵੀ ਕਹਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਰ ਆਦਰੁ ਆਈ ਭਲੇ ਜਨੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
devee kahio tin ko kar aadar aaee bhale jan bol patthaaee |
The goddess, in reverence, said to them: “Welcome, you have come as though I have called you.”,
ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
taa chhab kee upamaa at hee kav ne apane man mai lakh paaee |
The poet hath imagined well in his mind the glory of that occasion.,
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਵਨ ਮਾਸ ਨਦੀ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਜਲ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧੮੪॥
maanahu saavan maas nadee chal kai jal raas mai aan samaaee |184|
It seemed that the stream of Sawan (the rainy month) hath come and merged in the sea.184.,
ਦੇਖਿ ਮਹਾ ਦਲ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਬਰ ਬੀਰ ਸੁ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਧਾਏ ॥
dekh mahaa dal devan ko bar beer su saamuhe judh ko dhaae |
Seeing the great many of the demons, the warriors of the powers of gods went in front of them for war.,
ਬਾਨਨਿ ਸਾਥਿ ਹਨੇ ਬਲੁ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਆਵਤ ਬੀਰ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥
baanan saath hane bal kai ran mai bahu aavat beer giraae |
With great force killed many with their arrows and caused the confronting warriors to lie dead in the battlefield.,
ਦਾੜਨ ਸਾਥਿ ਚਬਾਇ ਗਈ ਕਲਿ ਅਉਰ ਗਹੈ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਿ ਬਗਾਏ ॥
daarran saath chabaae gee kal aaur gahai chahoon or bagaae |
Kali chewed many with her molars, and had thrown asunder many of them in all the four directions.,
ਰਾਵਨ ਸੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਭਾਲਕ ਜਿਉ ਗਿਰਰਾਜ ਚਲਾਏ ॥੧੮੫॥
raavan so ris kai ran mai pat bhaalak jiau giraraaj chalaae |185|
It seemed that while fighting with Ravana, in great fury, Jamwant had picked up and destroyed the great mountains.185.,
ਫੇਰ ਲੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਦੈਤਨ ਸੋ ਬਹੁ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
fer lai paan kripaan sanbhaar kai daitan so bahu judh kario hai |
Then taking the sword in her hand, Kali hath waged a ferocious war with the demons.,
ਮਾਰ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਦਏ ਬਹੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੇ ਭਟ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਝਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
maar bidaar sanghaar de bahu bhoom pare bhatt sraun jhario hai |
She hath destroyed many, who are lying dead on the earth and the blood is oozing out of the corpses.,
ਗੂਦ ਬਹਿਓ ਅਰਿ ਸੀਸਨ ਤੇ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਉ ਧਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
good bahio ar seesan te kav ne tih ko ih bhaau dhario hai |
The marrow, which is flowing from the heads of the enemies, the poet hath thought about it in this way:,
ਮਾਨੋ ਪਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਹੁ ਤੇ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਆਨਿ ਤੁਸਾਰ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੬॥
maano pahaar ke sringahu te dharanee par aan tusaar pario hai |186|
In seemed that slipping down from the peak of the mountain, the snow hath fallen on the earth.186.,

ਭਾਗ ਗਈ ਧੁਜਨੀ ਸਭੈ ਰਹਿਓ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਉਪਾਉ ॥
bhaag gee dhujanee sabhai rahio na kachhoo upaau |
When no other remedy was left, all the forces of the demons fled away.,
ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਦਲ ਲੈ ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਜਾਉ ॥੧੮੭॥
sunbh nisunbheh so kahio dal lai tum hoon jaau |187|
At that time Sumbh said to Nisumbh: “Take the army and go to fight.”187.,

ਮਾਨ ਕੈ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਬੋਲ ਨਿਸੁੰਭੁ ਚਲਿਓ ਦਲ ਸਾਜਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਿ ਐਸੇ ॥
maan kai sunbh ko bol nisunbh chalio dal saaj mahaa bal aise |
Obeying the orders of Sumbh, the mighty Nisumbh hath arrayed and moved forward like this:,
ਭਾਰਥ ਜਿਉ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਸਿ ਪਾਰਥਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਓ ਕਰਨੈ ਸੇ ॥
bhaarath jiau ran mai ris paarath krudh kai judh kario karanai se |
Just as in the war of Mahabharata, Arjuna, filled with anger had fought with Karan.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ਲਗੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੈਤ ਕਉ ਫੋਰਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਰ ਭਏ ਤਨ ਕੈਸੇ ॥
chandd ke baan lage bahu dait kau for kai paar bhe tan kaise |
The arrows of Chandi struck the demon in great number, which pierced and crossed the body, how?,
ਸਾਵਨ ਮਾਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਾਨ ਕੇ ਖੇਤਿ ਉਗੇ ਮਨੋ ਧਾਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਕੁਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੧੮੮॥
saavan maas krisaan ke khet uge mano dhaan ke ankur jaise |188|
Just as the young shoots of paddy in the field of a farmer in the rainy month of Sawan.188.,
ਬਾਨਨ ਸਾਥ ਗਿਰਾਇ ਦਏ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਇਉ ਰਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
baanan saath giraae de bahuro as lai kar iau ran keeno |
At first she caused the warriors to fall with her arrows, then taking her sword in her hand she waged the war like this:,
ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਦਈ ਧੁਜਨੀ ਸਭ ਦਾਨਵ ਕੋ ਬਲੁ ਹੁਇ ਗਇਓ ਛੀਨੋ ॥
maar bidaar dee dhujanee sabh daanav ko bal hue geo chheeno |
She killed and destroyed the whole army, which resulted in the depletion of the strength of the demon.,
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਸਮੂਹਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਤਹਾ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਜਸੁ ਇਉ ਮਨ ਚੀਨੋ ॥
sraun samoohi pario tih tthaur tahaa kav ne jas iau man cheeno |
At that place there is blood everywhere, the poet hath imagined its comparison like this:,
ਸਾਤ ਹੂੰ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੋ ਰਚਿ ਕੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਠਵੋ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ਨਵੀਨੋ ॥੧੮੯॥
saat hoon saagar ko rach kai bidh aatthavo sindh kario hai naveeno |189|
After creating the seven oceans, Brahma hath created this eighth new ocean of blood .189.,
ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਸਿ ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਭਈ ਰਨ ਮਧ ਲਰੀ ਹੈ ॥
lai kar mai as chandd prachandd su krudh bhee ran madh laree hai |
The power Chandi, taking the sword in her hand, is fighting in the bettlefield with great ire.,
ਫੋਰ ਦਈ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਚਮੂੰ ਬਲੁ ਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਧਰੀ ਹੈ ॥
for dee chaturang chamoon bal kai bahu kaalikaa maar dharee hai |
She hath destroyed four types of army and Kalika hath also killed many with great force.,
ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਇਉ ਅਸੁਰੰਪਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੀ ਕ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰੀ ਹੈ ॥
roop dikhaae bheaanak iau asuranpat bhraat kee kraat haree hai |
Showing her frightening form, Kalika hath effaced the glory of the face of Nisumbh.,
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਸੋ ਲਾਲ ਭਈ ਧਰਨੀ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਅੰਗ ਸੂਹੀ ਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਰੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੯੦॥
sraun so laal bhee dharanee su mano ang soohee kee saaree karee hai |190|
The earth hath become red with blood, it seems that the earth is wearing the red sari.190.
ਦੈਤ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਬਲਿ ਚੰਡਿ ਸੋ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਫੇਰਿ ਅਰੇ ਹੈ ॥
dait sanbhaar sabhai apano bal chandd so judh ko fer are hai |
All the demons, recouping their strength are resisting Chandi again in war.,
ਆਯੁਧ ਧਾਰਿ ਲਰੈ ਰਨ ਇਉ ਜਨੁ ਦੀਪਕ ਮਧਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ॥
aayudh dhaar larai ran iau jan deepak madh patang pare hai |
Equipping themselves with their weapons they are fighting in the battlefield like the months surrounding the lamp.,
ਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕੁਵੰਡ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਦੁ ਟੂਕ ਕਰੇ ਹੈ ॥
chandd prachandd kuvandd sanbhaar sabhai ran madh du ttook kare hai |
Holding her ferocious bow, she hath chopped the warriors into haloves in battlefield.,
ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹਾ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਬਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਛਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਬਾਢੀ ਜੁਦੇ ਕੈ ਧਰੇ ਹੈ ॥੧੯੧॥
maano mahaa ban mai bar brichhan kaatt kai baadtee jude kai dhare hai |191|
It seems trees and placed them separately.191.,
ਮਾਰ ਲਇਓ ਦਲੁ ਅਉਰ ਭਜਿਓ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਬ ਕੋਪ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
maar leo dal aaur bhajio man mai tab kop nisunbh kario hai |
When some army was killed and some fled away, then Nisumbh became very ferocious in his mind.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਨਿ ਅਰਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਓ ਪਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
chandd ke saamuhe aan ario at judh kario pag naeh ttario hai |
He stood firmly before Chandi and waged a violent war, he did not recede even one step.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ਲਗਿਓ ਮੁਖ ਦੈਤ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਸਮੂਹ ਧਰਾਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
chandd ke baan lagio mukh dait ke sraun samooh dharaan pario hai |
The arrows of Chandi struck the faces of demons and great deal of blood hath flown on the earth.,
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਰਾਹੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਨਭਿ ਭਾਨੁ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਤ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਬਉਨ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੧੯੨॥
maanahu raahu grasio nabh bhaan su sraunat ko at baun kario hai |192|
It seems that Rahu hath caught hold of sun in the sky, resulting in the great carving of blood by the sun.192.,
ਸਾਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਕਰੰ ਬਲੁ ਧਾਰ ਕੈ ਚੰਡਿ ਦਈ ਰਿਪੁ ਭਾਲ ਮੈ ਐਸੇ ॥
saag sanbhaar karan bal dhaar kai chandd dee rip bhaal mai aise |
Holding the spear in her hand, Chandi with great force thrust it into the forehead of the enemy like this,,
ਜੋਰ ਕੈ ਫੋਰ ਗਈ ਸਿਰ ਤ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਪਾਰ ਭਈ ਪਟ ਫਾਰਿ ਅਨੈਸੇ ॥
jor kai for gee sir traan ko paar bhee patt faar anaise |
That it pierced the helmet like the cloth.,
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਕੀ ਧਾਰ ਚਲੀ ਪਥ ਊਰਧ ਸੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਸੁ ਭਈ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ॥
sraun kee dhaar chalee path aooradh so upamaa su bhee kahu kaise |
The current of blood flowing out upwards, what comparison the poet hath imagined about it?,
ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹੇਸ ਕੇ ਤੀਸਰੇ ਨੈਨ ਕੀ ਜੋਤ ਉਦੋਤ ਭਈ ਖੁਲ ਤੈਸੇ ॥੧੯੩॥
maano mahes ke teesare nain kee jot udot bhee khul taise |193|
With the opening of the third eye of Shiva, the light appeared like this current.193.,
ਦੈਤ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਕੈ ਸਾਗ ਵਹੈ ਬਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਬ ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕੇ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
dait nikaas kai saag vahai bal kai tab chandd prachandd ke deenee |
The demon, with his strength, took out that spear and with the same swiftness struck Chandi with it.,
ਜਾਇ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਬਹਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਪਰਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਛਬਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥
jaae lagee tih ke mukh mai beh sraun pario at hee chhab keenee |
The spear struck the face of the goddess resulting in the flow of blood from her face, which created a splendid scene.,
ਇਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋਈ ਕਹਿ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
eiau upamaa upajee man mai kab ne ih bhaat soee keh deenee |
The comparison which hath emerged in the mind of the poet, can be told like this:,
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਦੀਪ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਗਰੇ ਮੈ ਤੰਬੋਰ ਕੀ ਪੀਕ ਨਵੀਨੀ ॥੧੯੪॥
maanahu singal deep kee naar gare mai tanbor kee peek naveenee |194|
I seemed that in the throat of the most beautiful woman of Lanka, the saliva of the chewed betel leaf is being visulised.194.,
ਜੁਧੁ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਕਰਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਸੁ ਇਆ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਕੋ ਬਰਨੈ ॥
judh nisunbh kario at hee jas eaa chhab ko kab ko baranai |
Nisumbh hath waged a very fierce war which poet can describe its splendour?,
ਨਹਿ ਭੀਖਮ ਦ੍ਰੋਣਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਅਰੁ ਦ੍ਰੋਣਜ ਭੀਮ ਨ ਅਰਜਨ ਅਉ ਕਰਨੈ ॥
neh bheekham dron kripaa ar dronaj bheem na arajan aau karanai |
Such a war hath not been fought by Bhishma, Dronacharya, Kripachrya, Bhima, Arjuna and Karana.,
ਬਹੁ ਦਾਨਵ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਕੀ ਧਾਰ ਛੁਟੀ ਸੁ ਲਗੇ ਸਰ ਕੇ ਫਰਨੈ ॥
bahu daanav ke tan sraun kee dhaar chhuttee su lage sar ke faranai |
The current of blood is flowing form the bodies of many demons, because they have been pierced by the arrows.,
ਜਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਕੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਬਿਭਾਸ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਫੈਲਿ ਚਲੀ ਰਵਿ ਕੀ ਕਿਰਨੈ ॥੧੯੫॥
jan raat kai door bibhaas daso dis fail chalee rav kee kiranai |195|
It seems that in order to end the night, the sun-rays are scattering at dawn from all the ten directions.195.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਲੈ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਧਸੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਸਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਕੀਓ ਬਹੁ ਦਾਨਵ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
chandd lai chakr dhasee ran mai ris krudh keeo bahu daanav maare |
Chandi penetrated in the battlefield with her disc and with anger in her she killed many demons.,
ਫੇਰਿ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਲਹਿ ਕੈ ਚਹਿ ਕੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਸੈਨ ਹਤੀ ਲਲਕਾਰੇ ॥

lai kar khag adag mahaa sir daitan ke bahu bhoo par jhaare |
Taking her glittering sword in her land, she hath thrown and scattered the heads of great demons on the earth.,
ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਜੁਧ ਸਮੇ ਹਨੂਮਾਨਿ ਜੁਆਨ ਮਨੋ ਗਰੂਏ ਗਿਰ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੧੯੬॥
raam ke judh same hanoomaan juaan mano garooe gir ddaare |196|
It seems that in the war fought by Ram Chandra, the mighty Hanuman hath thrown down the great mountains.196.,
ਦਾਨਵ ਏਕ ਬਡੋ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਲੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਹਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਧਾਇਓ ॥
daanav ek baddo balavaan kripaan lai paan hakaar kai dhaaeo |
One very powerful demon, holding his sword in his hand and shouting loudly came running.,
ਕਾਢੁ ਕੈ ਖਗ ਸੁ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਮਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਤਾ ਤਨ ਬੀਚ ਭਲੇ ਬਰਿ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
kaadt kai khag su chanddikaa miaan te taa tan beech bhale bar laaeo |
Chandi, taking out her double-edged sword from the sheath, with great force struck the body of the demon.,
ਟੂਟ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਿਰ ਵਾ ਧਰਿ ਤੇ ਜਸੁ ਇਆ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਕਵਿ ਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
ttoott pario sir vaa dhar te jas eaa chhab ko kav ke man aaeo |
His head broke and fell on the earth, the poet hath imagined thus this comparison.,
ਊਚ ਧਰਾਧਰ ਊਪਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਰਿਓ ਕਾਕ ਕਰਾਲ ਭੁਜੰਗਮ ਖਾਇਓ ॥੧੯੭॥
aooch dharaadhar aoopar te girio kaak karaal bhujangam khaaeo |197|
It seemed that a crow eaten by a dreadful snake hath fallen on the earth from the lofty mountain.197.,
ਬੀਰ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਦੈਤ ਬਲੀ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਗਇਓ ਰਨਿ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ॥
beer nisunbh ko dait balee ik prer turang geo ran saamuhi |
One powerful demon-warrior of Nisumbh, speeding his horse, went in front of the battlefield.,
ਦੇਖਤ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਾਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਅਬਿ ਕੋ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ॥
dekhat dheeraj naeh rahai ab ko samarath hai bikram jaa meh |
On seeing him, one loses his composure, who is then so powerful as to try to go before this demon?
ਚੰਡਿ ਲੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਹਨੇ ਅਰਿ ਫੇਰਿ ਦਈ ਸਿਰ ਦਾਨਵ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ॥
chandd lai paan kripaan hane ar fer dee sir daanav taa meh |
Chandi, taking her sword in her hand, hath killed many enemies, and at the same time, she struck on the head of this demon.,
ਮੁੰਡਹਿ ਤੁੰਡਹਿ ਰੁੰਡਹਿ ਚੀਰਿ ਪਲਾਨ ਕਿਕਾਨ ਧਸੀ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਮਹਿ ॥੧੯੮॥
munddeh tunddeh runddeh cheer palaan kikaan dhasee basudhaa meh |198|
This sword piercing the head, the face, the trunk, the saddle and the horse hath thrust into the earth.198.,
ਇਉ ਜਬ ਦੈਤ ਹਤਿਓ ਬਰ ਚੰਡਿ ਸੁ ਅਉਰ ਚਲਿਓ ਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਪਚਾਰੇ ॥
eiau jab dait hatio bar chandd su aaur chalio ran madh pachaare |
When the powerful Chandi killed that demon in this way, then another demon shouting loudly came forward in the battlefield.,
ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਮੁਹਾਇ ਰਿਸਾਇ ਕੈ ਧਾਇ ਕੈ ਘਾਇ ਦੁ ਤੀਨਕ ਝਾਰੇ ॥
kehar ke samuhaae risaae kai dhaae kai ghaae du teenak jhaare |
Going in front of the lion and running in anger, he inflicted on him two-three wounds.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਲਈ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਹਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਸੀਸ ਦਈ ਬਲੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
chandd lee karavaar sanbhaar hakaar kai sees dee bal dhaare |
Chandi held up her sword and shouting loudly with great force, she struck it on the head of the demon.,
ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਿਰ ਦੂਰ ਪਰਾਇ ਜਿਉ ਟੂਟਤ ਅੰਬੁ ਬਯਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੧੯੯॥
jaae pario sir door paraae jiau ttoottat anb bayaar ke maare |199|
His head fell far away like the mangoes by the violent wind.199.,
ਜਾਨਿ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਕੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਬਨਿਓ ਰਨਿ ਦੈਤ ਸਬੂਹ ਸਬੈ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਏ ॥
jaan nidaan ko judh banio ran dait sabooh sabai utth dhaae |
Consider the war at its peak, all the division of the army of demons are running towards the battlefield.,
ਸਾਰ ਸੋ ਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਮਾਰ ਮਚੀ ਤਬ ਕਾਇਰ ਛਾਡ ਕੈ ਖੇਤ ਪਰਾਏ ॥
saar so saar kee maar machee tab kaaeir chhaadd kai khet paraae |
The steel collided with steel and the cowards fled away andleft the battlefield.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਖਗ ਗਦਾ ਲਗਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਰੰਚਕ ਰੰਚਕ ਹੁਇ ਤਨ ਆਏ ॥
chandd ke khag gadaa lag daanav ranchak ranchak hue tan aae |
With the blows of the sword and mace of Chandi, the bodies of demons have fallen in fragments.,
ਮੂੰਗਰ ਲਾਇ ਹਲਾਇ ਮਨੋ ਤਰੁ ਕਾਛੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਡ ਤੇ ਤੂਤ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥੨੦੦॥
moongar laae halaae mano tar kaachhee ne pedd te toot giraae |200|
It seems that the gardener hath shaken and even thrashed with wooden pestles, the mulberry tree hath caused the fall of its fruit.200.,
ਪੇਖਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਬਹੁ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੀ ਪੁਨਿ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਆਪਨੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥
pekh chamoon bahu daitan kee pun chanddikaa aapane sasatr sanbhaare |
Seeing still a large remaining army of the demons, Chandi held up her weapons.,
ਬੀਰਨ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਚੀਰਿ ਪਚੀਰ ਸੇ ਦੈਤ ਹਕਾਰ ਪਛਾਰਿ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
beeran ke tan cheer pacheer se dait hakaar pachhaar sanghaare |
She ripped the sandalwood-like bodies of the warriors and challenging them, she knocked down and killed them..,
ਘਾਉ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਰਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੈ ਟੂਟ ਪਰੇ ਧਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਆਰੇ ॥
ghaau lage tin ko ran bhoom mai ttoott pare dhar te sir niaare |
They have been wounded in the battlefield and many have fallen with their heads severed from thir trunks.,
ਜੁਧ ਸਮੈ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਨ ਮਨੋ ਸਸਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਟੂਕ ਜੁਦੇ ਕਰ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੨੦੧॥
judh samai sut bhaan mano sas ke sabh ttook jude kar ddaare |201|
It seems that at the time of the war, Saturn hath chopped all the limbs of the moon and thrown them.201.,
ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਤਬੈ ਬਲ ਧਾਰਿ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਲਈ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਕਰੀ ਕਰਿ ॥
chandd prachandd tabai bal dhaar sanbhaar lee karavaar karee kar |
At that time, the powerful Chandi, pulling up her strength, held fast her sword in her hand.,
ਕੋਪ ਦਈਅ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਕੇ ਸੀਸਿ ਬਹੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਰਹੀ ਤਰਵਾ ਤਰਿ ॥
kop deea nisunbh ke sees bahee ih bhaat rahee taravaa tar |
In anger, she struck it on the head of Nisumbh, it struck in such a way that it crossed to the other end.,
ਕਉਨ ਸਰਾਹਿ ਕਰੈ ਕਹਿ ਤਾ ਛਿਨ ਸੋ ਬਿਬ ਹੋਇ ਪਰੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ॥
kaun saraeh karai keh taa chhin so bib hoe parai dharanee par |
Who can appreciate such blow? At the came instant that demon hath fallen on the earth in two halves.,
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਤਾਰ ਲੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੈ ਸਾਬੁਨ ਕੋ ਸਬੁਨੀਗਰ ॥੨੦੨॥
maanahu saar kee taar lai haath chalaaee hai saabun ko sabuneegar |202|
It seems that the soap-maker, taking the steel-wire in his hand, hath struck the soap with it.202.,

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਗੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
mil satasangat har gun gaae jag bhaujal dutar tareeai jeeo |1|
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, you shall cross over the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. ||1||

Come, friends, let us meet our Lord.

Bring me a message from my Beloved.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਖਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਭਾਈ ਮੈ ਦਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਰਹਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
meraa mitru sakhaa so preetam bhaaee mai dase har narahareeai jeeo |2|
He alone is a friend, companion, beloved and brother of mine, who shows me the way to the Lord, the Lord of all. ||2||
ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
meree bedan har gur pooraa jaanai |
My illness is known only to the Lord and the Perfect Guru.
ਹਉ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
hau reh na sakaa bin naam vakhaane |
I cannot continue living without chanting the Naam.
ਮੈ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
mai aaukhadh mantru deejai gur poore mai har har naam udhareeai jeeo |3|
So give me the medicine, the Mantra of the Perfect Guru. Through the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I am saved. ||3||
ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
ham chaatrik deen satigur saranaaee |
I am just a poor song-bird, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
har har naam boond mukh paaee |
who has placed the Drop of Water, the Lord's Name, Har, Har, in my mouth.
ਹਰਿ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਹਮ ਜਲ ਕੇ ਮੀਨੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩॥
har jalanidh ham jal ke meene jan naanak jal bin mareeai jeeo |4|3|
The Lord is the Treasure of Water; I am just a fish in that water. Without this Water, servant Nanak would die. ||4||3||

meraa har prabh dasahu mai bhukh lagaaee |
Show me the way to my Lord God-I am so hungry for Him!
ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
meree saradhaa poor jagajeevan daate mil har darasan man bheejai jeeo |1|
Please reward my faith, O Life of the World, O Great Giver. Obtaining the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my mind is fulfilled. ||1||
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
mil satasang bolee har baanee |
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I chant the Bani of the Lord's Word.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
har har kathaa merai man bhaanee |
The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
har har amrit har man bhaavai mil satigur amrit peejai jeeo |2|
The Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is so sweet to my mind. Meeting the True Guru, I drink in this Ambrosial Nectar. ||2||
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
vaddabhaagee har sangat paaveh |
By great good fortune, the Lord's Congregation is found,
ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਹਿ ॥
bhaagaheen bhram chottaa khaaveh |
while the unfortunate ones wander around in doubt, enduring painful beatings.
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਸਤਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
bin bhaagaa satasang na labhai bin sangat mail bhareejai jeeo |3|
Without good fortune, the Sat Sangat is not found; without this Sangat, people are stained with filth and pollution. ||3||
ਮੈ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
mai aae milahu jagajeevan piaare |
Come and meet me, O Life of the World, my Beloved.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har har naam deaa man dhaare |
Please bless me with Your Mercy, and enshrine Your Name, Har, Har, within my mind.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥
guramat naam meetthaa man bhaaeaa jan naanak naam man bheejai jeeo |4|4|
Through the Guru's Teachings, the Sweet Name has become pleasing to my mind. Servant Nanak's mind is drenched and delighted with the Naam. ||4||4||

Through the Guru, I have obtained the Lord's spiritual wisdom. I have obtained the Sublime Essence of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥
man har rang raataa har ras peeaeaa |
My mind is imbued with the Love of the Lord; I drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਟੁਲਿ ਟੁਲਿ ਪਉਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
har har naam mukh har har bolee man har ras ttul ttul paudaa jeeo |1|
With my mouth, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; my mind is filled to overflowing with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||1||
ਆਵਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਮੈ ਗਲਿ ਮੇਲਾਈਐ ॥
aavahu sant mai gal melaaeeai |
Come, O Saints, and lead me to my Lord's Embrace.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
mere preetam kee mai kathaa sunaaeeai |
Recite to me the Sermon of my Beloved.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਚਉਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
har ke sant milahu man devaa jo gurabaanee mukh chaudaa jeeo |2|
I dedicate my mind to those Saints of the Lord, who chant the Word of the Guru's Bani with their mouths. ||2||
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
vaddabhaagee har sant milaaeaa |
By great good fortune, the Lord has led me to meet His Saint.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai har ras mukh paaeaa |
The Perfect Guru has placed the Sublime Essence of the Lord into my mouth.
ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਗਰਭ ਜੂਨੀ ਨਿਤਿ ਪਉਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
bhaagaheen satigur nahee paaeaa manamukh garabh joonee nit paudaa jeeo |3|
The unfortunate ones do not find the True Guru; the self-willed manmukhs continually endure reincarnation through the womb. ||3||
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
aap deaal deaa prabh dhaaree |
God, the Merciful, has Himself bestowed His Mercy.
ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸਭ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
mal haumai bikhiaa sabh nivaaree |
He has totally removed the poisonous pollution of egotism.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਟ ਪਟਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਉਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak hatt pattan vich kaaneaa har lainde guramukh saudaa jeeo |4|5|
O Nanak, in the shops of the city of the human body, the Gurmukhs buy the merchandise of the Lord's Name. ||4||5||

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
mil sangat man naam vasaaee |
Joining the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the Name comes to dwell in the mind.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
har prabh agam agochar suaamee mil satigur har ras keechai jeeo |1|
The Lord God is our Lord and Master, Inaccessible and Unfathomable. Meeting the True Guru, I enjoy the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||1||
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
dhan dhan har jan jin har prabh jaataa |
Blessed, blessed are the humble servants of the Lord, who know the Lord God.
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
jaae puchhaa jan har kee baataa |
I go and ask those humble servants about the Mysteries of the Lord.
ਪਾਵ ਮਲੋਵਾ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
paav malovaa mal mal dhovaa mil har jan har ras peechai jeeo |2|
I wash and massage their feet; joining with the humble servants of the Lord, I drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
satigur daatai naam dirraaeaa |
The True Guru, the Giver, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
vaddabhaagee gur darasan paaeaa |
By great good fortune, I have obtained the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬੋਲੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
amrit ras sach amrit bolee gur poorai amrit leechai jeeo |3|
The True Essence is Ambrosial Nectar; through the Ambrosial Words of the Perfect Guru, this Amrit is obtained. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
har satasangat sat purakh milaaeeai |
O Lord, lead me to the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and the true beings.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
mil satasangat har naam dhiaaeeai |
Joining the Sat Sangat, I meditate on the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਰੀਚੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak har kathaa sunee mukh bolee guramat har naam pareechai jeeo |4|6|
O Nanak, I listen and chant the Lord's Sermon; through the Guru's Teachings, I am fulfilled by the Name of the Lord. ||4||6||
