ਚਾਮਰੰਗ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ ਮੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਥੋ ਨਾਥ ॥
chaamarang ke des mai indr singh tho naath |
In the country of Cham rang, Inder Singh was the Raja.
ਸਕਲ ਸੈਨ ਚਤੁਰੰਗਨੀ ਅਮਿਤ ਚੜਤ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
sakal sain chaturanganee amit charrat tih saath |1|
He possessed an army, which was adept in all the four traits.(1)
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਕਲਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਜਾ ਸਮ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
chandrakalaa taa kee triyaa jaa sam triyaa na koe |
Chandra Kala was his wife; there was none like her.
ਜੋ ਵਹੁ ਚਾਹੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੈ ਜੋ ਭਾਖੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
jo vahu chaahai so karai jo bhaakhai so hoe |2|
She would act whatever the way she liked.(2)

ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਏਕ ਸਖੀ ਤਹ ਰਹੈ ॥
sundar ek sakhee teh rahai |
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਨੇਹ ਰਾਵ ਨਿਰਬਹੈ ॥
taa sau neh raav nirabahai |
She had a pretty maid, with whom Raja fell in love.
ਰਾਨੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮੈ ਜਰਈ ॥
raanee adhik hridai mai jaree |
ਯਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਰਈ ॥੩॥
yaa so preet adhik nrip karee |3|
Rani was jealous, ‘Why Raja is fond of her?’(3)
ਗਾਧੀ ਇਕ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਹ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
gaadhee ik khatree teh bhaaro |
ਫਤਹ ਚੰਦ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੋ ॥
fatah chand naamaa ujiyaaro |
There used to live an essence-seller whose name was Fateh Chand.
ਸੋ ਤਿਨ ਚੇਰੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
so tin cheree bol patthaayo |
ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥੪॥
kaam kel tih saath kamaayo |4|
That maid called him and made love with him.(4)
ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਰਹਿ ਗਯੋ ॥
bhog kamaat garabh reh gayo |
By making love, she became pregnant, and she accused,
ਚੇਰੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਰਾਵ ਸਿਰ ਦਯੋ ॥
cheree dos raav sir dayo |
‘The Raja had sex with me and, as a consequent of this, a Son is born.’
ਰਾਜਾ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
raajaa mo sau bhog kamaayo |
By making love she had become pregnant, and for that she blamed Raja.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਪੂਤ ਸਪੂਤੁ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥੫॥
taa te poot sapoot upajaayo |5|
She stressed, ‘Raja made love with me and that is how my son is born.’(5)
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਇਹ ਭੇਦ ਲਹਿਯੋ ਚੁਪਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
nrip ih bhed lahiyo chup rahiyo |
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
taa sau pragatt na mukh te kahiyo |
When Raja learned this he did not comment, thinking,
ਮੈ ਯਾ ਸੋ ਨਹਿ ਭੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
mai yaa so neh bhog kamaayo |
ਚੇਰੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੬॥
cheree putr kahaa te paayo |6|
‘I have never maid love with the maid, then, how did she becotne pregnant.’(6)

ਫਤਹ ਚੰਦ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਚੇਰੀ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
fatah chand ko naam lai cheree lee bulaae |
He called her pretending to be Fateh Chand,
ਮਾਰਿ ਆਪਨੇ ਹਾਥ ਹੀ ਗਡਹੇ ਦਈ ਗਡਾਇ ॥੭॥
maar aapane haath hee gaddahe dee gaddaae |7|
He killed her and buried her in the ground.(7)(1)

In the Country of Bhutan, there was one Raja named Chander Singh.
ਪੂਜਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਨਾਥ ਕੀ ਕਰਤ ਆਠਹੂੰ ਜਾਮ ॥੧॥
poojaa sree jadunaath kee karat aatthahoon jaam |1|
All the eight watches of the day he used to pray to god, Jadoo Nath.

ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਘਰ ਮੈ ॥
chandr prabhaa taa ke triy ghar mai |
ਕੋਬਿਦ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਰਹਤ ਹੁਨਰ ਮੈ ॥
kobid sabh hee rehat hunar mai |
He had a woman named Chandra Prabha in his house; all the poets used to praise her.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਹੇਰਿ ਨਿਤ︀ਯ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
taa ko her nitay nrip jeevai |
ਤਿਹ ਹੇਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਨਿ ਨ ਪੀਪਵੈ ॥੨॥
tih here bin paan na peepavai |2|
Raja virtually lived by dint of her company, and, without seeing her, he would not drink, even, water.(2)
ਏਕ ਭੁਟੰਤੀ ਸੌ ਵਹੁ ਅਟਕੀ ॥

ਭੂਲਿ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਘਟ ਕੀ ॥
bhool gee sabh hee sudh ghatt kee |
A Bhutani (man) had a stint over her, and she lost all her perception.
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਤਿਹ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਵੈ ॥
raat divas tih bol patthaavai |
ਕਾਮ ਕਲਾ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
kaam kalaa tih sang kamaavai |3|
Day in and day out, she would call him and would indulge in making love.(3)
ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਤ ਰਾਵ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
bhog kamaat raav grih aayo |
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਤੁਰਤ ਛਪਾਯੋ ॥
taa ko raanee turat chhapaayo |
When they were having sex, the Raja appeared and the Rani instantly hid him.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪਹਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਮਦ ਆਨਿ ਪਿਯਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
nripeh adhik mad aan piyaariyo |
ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਤ ਖਾਟ ਪਰ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੪॥
kar kai mat khaatt par ddaariyo |4|
She made Raja to drink lot of wine, and, when he passed out, she put him in the bed.

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਖਲਰੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਕੀ ਲਈ ਤੁਰਤ ਪਹਿਰਾਈ ॥
taa ko khalaree svaan kee lee turat pahiraaee |
She had disguised him under the hide of a dog and,
ਰਾਜਾ ਜੂ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੌ ਦਯੋ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੫॥
raajaa joo ke dekhate grih kau dayo patthaae |5|
While Raja was watching, she asked him to go away.(5)

Study the Word of the Shabad, O beloveds. It is your anchoring support in life and in death.
ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਏਕ ॥੧॥
mukh aoojal sadaa sukhee naanak simarat ek |1|
Your face shall be radiant, and you will be at peace forever, O Nanak, meditating in remembrance on the One Lord. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੧॥
man tan raataa raam piaare har prem bhagat ban aaee santahu |1|
My mind and body are imbued with my Beloved Lord; I have been blessed with loving devotion to the Lord, O Saints. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਖੇਪ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥
satigur khep nibaahee santahu |
The True Guru has approved my cargo, O Saints.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਸਗਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਉਲਾਹੀ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har naam laahaa daas kau deea sagalee trisan ulaahee santahu |1| rahaau |
He has blessed His slave with the profit of the Lord's Name; all my thirst is quenched, O Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਇਕੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੨॥
khojat khojat laal ik paaeaa har keemat kehan na jaaee santahu |2|
Searching and searching, I have found the One Lord, the jewel; I cannot express His value, O Saints. ||2||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੩॥
charan kamal siau laago dhiaanaa saachai daras samaaee santahu |3|
I focus my meditation on His Lotus Feet; I am absorbed in the True Vision of His Darshan, O Saints. ||3||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੪॥
gun gaavat gaavat bhe nihaalaa har simarat tripat aghaaee santahu |4|
Singing, singing His Glorious Praises, I am enraptured; meditating in remembrance on the Lord, I am satisfied and fulfilled, O Saints. ||4||
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੫॥
aatam raam raviaa sabh antar kat aavai kat jaaee santahu |5|
The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is permeating within all; what comes, and what goes, O Saints? ||5||
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੬॥
aad jugaadee hai bhee hosee sabh jeea kaa sukhadaaee santahu |6|
At the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, He is, and He shall always be; He is the Giver of peace to all beings, O Saints. ||6||
ਆਪਿ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੭॥
aap beant ant nahee paaeeai poor rahiaa sabh tthaaee santahu |7|
He Himself is endless; His end cannot be found. He is totally pervading and permeating everywhere, O Saints. ||7||
ਮੀਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸੁਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਪੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੭॥
meet saajan maal joban sut har naanak baap meree maaee santahu |8|2|7|
Nanak: the Lord is my friend, companion, wealth, youth, son, father and mother, O Saints. ||8||2||7||

In thought, word and deed, I contemplate the Lord's Name.
ਘੂਮਨ ਘੇਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਅਤਿ ਬਿਖੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ghooman gher mahaa at bikharree guramukh naanak paar utaaree |1| rahaau |
The horrible world-ocean is very treacherous; O Nanak, the Gurmukh is carried across. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਮਲਨ ਭਏ ਦੁਸਟਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
antar sookhaa baahar sookhaa har jap malan bhe dusattaaree |1|
Inwardly, peace, and outwardly, peace; meditating on the Lord, evil tendencies are crushed. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
jis te laage tineh nivaare prabh jeeo apanee kirapaa dhaaree |2|
He has rid me of what was clinging to me; my Dear Lord God has blessed me with His Grace. ||2||
ਉਧਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਚਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮਹਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
audhare sant pare har saranee pach binase mahaa ahankaaree |3|
The Saints are saved, in His Sanctuary; the very egotistical people rot away and die. ||3||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਇਕੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
saadhoo sangat ihu fal paaeaa ik keval naam adhaaree |4|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have obtained this fruit, the Support of the One Name alone. ||4||
ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੀਣਾ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
n koee soor na koee heenaa sabh pragattee jot tumaaree |5|
No one is strong, and no one is weak; all are manifestations of Your Light, Lord. ||5||
ਤੁਮੑ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਕਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਰਵਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
tuma samarath akath agochar raviaa ek muraaree |6|
You are the all-powerful, indescribable, unfathomable, all-pervading Lord. ||6||
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
keemat kaun kare teree karate prabh ant na paaraavaaree |7|
Who can estimate Your value, O Creator Lord? God has no end or limitation. ||7||
ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰੇਣਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੩॥੮॥੨੨॥
naam daan naanak vaddiaaee teriaa sant janaa renaaree |8|3|8|22|
Please bless Nanak with the glorious greatness of the gift of the Naam, and the dust of the feet of Your Saints. ||8||3||8||22||
