ਬਨਿਯੋ ਹੇਤ ਬਨਿਜ ਕੋ ਗਯੋ ॥
baniyo het banij ko gayo |
ਮੈਨ ਦੁਖ︀ਯ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
main dukhay triy ko at dayo |
The Shah once went out on a business and the wife became very distressed with the urge of sex.
ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪੈ ਤੇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
tih triy pai te rahiyo na jaaee |
ਕੇਲ ਕਿਯੋ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
kel kiyo ik purakh bulaaee |2|
She could not control herself and called in a man for love-making.
ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਰਹਿ ਗਯੋ ॥
kel kamaat garabh reh gayo |
ਕੀਨੇ ਜਤਨ ਦੂਰਿ ਨਹਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
keene jatan door neh bhayo |
With sex-play she became pregnant and, in spite of hard efforts she could not abort.
ਨਵ ਮਾਸਨ ਪਾਛੇ ਸੁਤ ਜਾਯੋ ॥
nav maasan paachhe sut jaayo |
ਤਵਨਹਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਬਨਿਕ ਘਰ ਆਯੋ ॥੩॥
tavaneh divas banik ghar aayo |3|
After nine months a son was born, and that day the Shah came back as well.(3)
ਬਨਿਕ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
banik kop kar bachan sunaayo |
ਕਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤੈ ਬਿਭਚਾਰ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
kachh triy tai bibhachaar kamaayo |
The Shah, in right fury, asked, ‘Oh, woman you have indulged in debauchery.
ਭੋਗ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bhog kare bin poot na hoee |
ਬਾਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥
baal bridh jaanat sabh koee |4|
‘Without making-love a son cannot be born, as all the young and old know this.’(4)
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਮੈ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
sunahu saahu mai kathaa sunaaoo |
ਤੁਮਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਮਿਟਾਊ ॥
tumare chit ko bharam mittaaoo |
‘Listen, my Shah, I will tell you the story and it will eradicate all the doubts from your heart.
ਇਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
eik jogee tumare grih aayo |
ਤਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸੁਤ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੫॥
tih prasaad te grih sut paayo |5|
‘A yogi came in our house in your absence, and due to his benevolence this son is born.’(5)

ਮੁਰਜ ਨਾਥ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੋ ਆਯੋ ਇਹ ਧਾਮ ॥
muraj naath jogee huto so aayo ih dhaam |
‘Murj Nath Jogi had come to our house,
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭੋਗ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਕਿਯੌ ਸੁਤ ਦੀਨੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਾਮ ॥੬॥
drisatt bhog mo sau kiyau sut deeno grih raam |6|
‘He made love with me through vision and gave me this child.(6)
ਬਨਿਕ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਚੁਪ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਭਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ︀ਯ ॥
banik bachan sun chup rahiyo man mai bhayo prasanay |
The Shah, after learning this, was satisfied and shut himself.
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭੋਗ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੁਤ ਦਿਯੌ ਧਰਨੀ ਤਲ ਸੋ ਧੰਨ︀ਯ ॥੭॥
drisatt bhog jin sut diyau dharanee tal so dhanay |7|
He commended the yogi who had endowed the boy through the vision.(7)(1)

ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਲਯੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
bindraaban grih nand ke kaanrah layo avataar |
In Brindaban, in the house of Nand, Krishna manifested,
ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਤਿ ਉਠਿ ਕਰਤ ਜੁਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
teen lok jaa ko sadaa nit utth karat juhaar |1|
And all the three regions sprung up to pay their obeisance.(I)

ਸਭ ਗੋਪੀ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
sabh gopee taa ke gun gaaveh |
ਨਿਤਿਯ ਕਿਸਨ ਕਹ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਵਹਿ ॥
nitiy kisan keh sees jhukaaveh |
All the Gopis, the milkmaids, sang in his praises and bowed their heads.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਸ︀ਯੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
man meh basayo prem at bhaaree |
ਤਨ ਮਨ ਦੇਤ ਅਪਨੋ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
tan man det apano vaaree |2|
In their minds, love descended and they willed to sacrifice upon him, both body and soul.(2)
ਰਾਧਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੋਪਿ ਇਕ ਰਹੈ ॥
raadhaa naam gop ik rahai |
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ॥
krisan krisan mukh te nit kahai |
There was one Gopi, named Radha, who meditated pronouncing ‘Krishna, Krishna.’
ਜਗਨਾਯਕ ਸੌ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
jaganaayak sau prem lagaayo |
ਸੂਤ ਸਿਧਨ ਕੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥੩॥
soot sidhan kee bhaat badtaayo |3|
She fell in love with Krishna and expanded the string of her love like anaustere.(3)

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹੈ ਛੋਰਿ ਧਾਮ ਕੋ ਕਾਮ ॥
krisan krisan mukh te kahai chhor dhaam ko kaam |
Abandoning all the household work, she would always recount, ‘Krishna. Krishna.’
ਨਿਸਦਿਨ ਰਟਤ ਬਿਹੰਗ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਜਗਨਾਯਕ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੪॥
nisadin rattat bihang jayo jaganaayak ko naam |4|
And, day in and day out, she would repeat his name like a parrot.(4)

ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਪਿਤੁ ਮਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ॥
traas na pit maataa ko karai |
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
krisan krisan mukh te ucharai |
She never cared about her mother or father, and went on reciting, ‘Krishna, Krishna.’
ਹੇਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
heran taeh nit utth aavai |
ਨੰਦ ਜਸੋਮਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਲਜਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
nand jasomat dekh lajaavai |5|
She would go every day to see him, but she blushed on seeing Nand and Yashoda.(5)

Savaiyya
ਜੋਬਨ ਜੇਬ ਜਗੇ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜਾਤ ਜਰਾਵ ਜੁਰੀ ਕਹ ਨਾਤੈ ॥
joban jeb jage at sundar jaat jaraav juree keh naatai |
His profile was exquisite, and his body was adorned with ornaments.
ਅੰਗ ਹੁਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਲੋਗ ਸਭੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਬਨਾਇ ਕਹੀ ਇਕ ਬਾਤੈ ॥
ang hute brij log sabhe har raae banaae kahee ik baatai |
In the courtyard, all had gathered, when Krishna uttered something,
ਹਾਥ ਉਚਾਇ ਹਨੀ ਛਤਿਯਾ ਮੁਸਕਾਇ ਲਜਾਇ ਸਖੀ ਚਹੂੰ ਘਾਤੈ ॥
haath uchaae hanee chhatiyaa musakaae lajaae sakhee chahoon ghaatai |
Replacing their hands over their chests, the maids smiled in modesty.
ਨੈਨਨ ਸੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਏ ਜਦੁਨਾਥ ਸੁ ਭੌਹਨ ਸੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਾਹੁ ਇਹਾ ਤੈ ॥੬॥
nainan sau kahiyo e jadunaath su bhauahan sau kahiyo jaahu ihaa tai |6|
Through twinkling eyes, they asked, ‘Oh, Krishna, you go from here.’(6)

ਸਾਧੋ ਕਉਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

Holy people: what way should I now adopt,
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa te duramat sagal binaasai raam bhagat man bheejai |1| rahaau |
by which all evil-mindedness may be dispelled, and the mind may vibrate in devotional worship to the Lord? ||1||Pause||
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
man maaeaa meh urajh rahio hai boojhai neh kachh giaanaa |
My mind is entangled in Maya; it knows nothing at all of spiritual wisdom.
ਕਉਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
kaun naam jag jaa kai simarai paavai pad nirabaanaa |1|
What is that Name, by which the world, contemplating it, might attain the state of Nirvaanaa? ||1||
ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਤਬ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਈ ॥
bhe deaal kripaal sant jan tab ih baat bataaee |
When the Saints became kind and compassionate, they told me this.
ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਮਾਨੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਏ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
sarab dharam maano tih kee jih prabh keerat gaaee |2|
Understand, that whoever sings the Kirtan of God's Praises, has performed all religious rituals. ||2||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਰੁ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਏਕ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
raam naam nar nis baasur meh nimakh ek ur dhaarai |
One who enshrines the Lord's Name in his heart night and day - even for an instant
ਜਮ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੩॥੨॥
jam ko traas mittai naanak tih apuno janam savaarai |3|2|
- has his fear of Death eradicated. O Nanak, his life is approved and fulfilled. ||3||2||

ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੇਹਿ ॥

O mortal, focus your thoughts on the Lord.
ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhin chhin aaudh ghattai nis baasur brithaa jaat hai deh |1| rahaau |
Moment by moment, your life is running out; night and day, your body is passing away in vain. ||1||Pause||
ਤਰਨਾਪੋ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਖੋਇਓ ਬਾਲਪਨੁ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
taranaapo bikhian siau khoeo baalapan agiaanaa |
You have wasted your youth in corrupt pleasures, and your childhood in ignorance.
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਓ ਅਜਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਸਮਝੈ ਕਉਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਉਰਝਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
biradh bheo ajahoo nahee samajhai kaun kumat urajhaanaa |1|
You have grown old, and even now, you do not understand, the evil-mindedness in which you are entangled. ||1||
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਜਿਹ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਸੋ ਤੈ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥
maanas janam deeo jih tthaakur so tai kiau bisaraaeo |
Why have you forgotten your Lord and Master, who blessed you with this human life?
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਤ ਨਰ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਗਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
mukat hot nar jaa kai simarai nimakh na taa kau gaaeo |2|
Remembering Him in meditation, one is liberated. And yet, you do not sing His Praises, even for an instant. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਮਦੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥
maaeaa ko mad kahaa karat hai sang na kaahoo jaaee |
Why are you intoxicated with Maya? It will not go along with you.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥੮੧॥
naanak kehat chet chintaaman hoe hai ant sahaaee |3|3|81|
Says Nanak, think of Him, remember Him in your mind. He is the Fulfiller of desires, who will be your help and support in the end. ||3||3||81||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸੋਈ ਚੰਦੁ ਚੜਹਿ ਸੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਤਪਤ ਰਹੈ ॥
soee chand charreh se taare soee dineear tapat rahai |
The same moon rises, and the same stars; the same sun shines in the sky.
ਸਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੋ ਪਉਣੁ ਝੁਲਾਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਜੀਅ ਖੇਲੇ ਥਾਵ ਕੈਸੇ ॥੧॥
saa dharatee so paun jhulaare jug jeea khele thaav kaise |1|
The earth is the same, and the same wind blows. The age in which we dwell affects living beings, but not these places. ||1||
ਜੀਵਨ ਤਲਬ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
jeevan talab nivaar |
Give up your attachment to life.
ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ਕਲਿ ਲਖਣ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hovai paravaanaa kareh dhingaanaa kal lakhan veechaar |1| rahaau |
Those who act like tyrants are accepted and approved - recognize that this is the sign of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਤੈ ਦੇਸਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਤੀਰਥ ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਬੈਠਾ ॥
kitai des na aaeaa suneeai teerath paas na baitthaa |
Kali Yuga has not been heard to have come to any country, or to be sitting at any sacred shrine.
ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਹਲ ਉਸਾਰਿ ਨ ਬੈਠਾ ॥੨॥
daataa daan kare teh naahee mehal usaar na baitthaa |2|
It is not where the generous person gives to charities, nor seated in the mansion he has built. ||2||
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਸਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ਤਪ ਘਰਿ ਤਪੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
je ko sat kare so chheejai tap ghar tap na hoee |
If someone practices Truth, he is frustrated; prosperity does not come to the home of the sincere.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਲਏ ਬਦਨਾਵੀ ਕਲਿ ਕੇ ਲਖਣ ਏਈ ॥੩॥
je ko naau le badanaavee kal ke lakhan eee |3|
If someone chants the Lord's Name, he is scorned. These are the signs of Kali Yuga. ||3||
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਚਾਕਰ ਕੇਹੇ ਡਰਣਾ ॥
jis sikadaaree tiseh khuaaree chaakar kehe ddaranaa |
Whoever is in charge, is humiliated. Why should the servant be afraid,
ਜਾ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੈ ਪਵੈ ਜੰਜੀਰੀ ਤਾ ਚਾਕਰ ਹਥਹੁ ਮਰਣਾ ॥੪॥
jaa sikadaarai pavai janjeeree taa chaakar hathahu maranaa |4|
when the master is put in chains? He dies at the hands of his servant. ||4||
ਆਖੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਲਿ ਆਈਐ ॥
aakh gunaa kal aaeeai |
Chant the Praises of the Lord; Kali Yuga has come.
ਤਿਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਕੇਰਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tihu jug keraa rahiaa tapaavas je gun dehi ta paaeeai |1| rahaau |
The justice of the previous three ages is gone. One obtains virtue, only if the Lord bestows it. ||1||Pause||
ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਸਰਾ ਨਿਬੇੜੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਹੋਆ ॥
kal kalavaalee saraa niberree kaajee krisanaa hoaa |
In this turbulent age of Kali Yuga, Muslim law decides the cases, and the blue-robed Qazi is the judge.
ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬੇਦੁ ਅਥਰਬਣੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੫॥
baanee brahamaa bed atharaban karanee keerat lahiaa |5|
The Guru's Bani has taken the place of Brahma's Veda, and the singing of the Lord's Praises are good deeds. ||5||
ਪਤਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਸਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਨੇਊ ॥
pat vin poojaa sat vin sanjam jat vin kaahe janeaoo |
Worship without faith; self-discipline without truthfulness; the ritual of the sacred thread without chastity - what good are these?
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਧੋਵਹੁ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚੜਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਚ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
naavahu dhovahu tilak charraavahu such vin soch na hoee |6|
You may bathe and wash, and apply a ritualistic tilak mark to your forehead, but without inner purity, there is no understanding. ||6||
ਕਲਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ॥
kal paravaan kateb kuraan |
In Kali Yuga, the Koran and the Bible have become famous.
ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
pothee panddit rahe puraan |
The Pandit's scriptures and the Puraanas are not respected.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਉ ਭਇਆ ਰਹਮਾਣੁ ॥
naanak naau bheaa rahamaan |
O Nanak, the Lord's Name now is Rehmaan, the Merciful.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
kar karataa too eko jaan |7|
Know that there is only One Creator of the creation. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਏਦੂ ਉਪਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee edoo upar karam nahee |
Nanak has obtained the glorious greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. There is no action higher than this.
ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਮੰਗਣਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਲਾਮਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਹੀ ॥੮॥੧॥
je ghar hodai mangan jaaeeai fir olaamaa milai tahee |8|1|
If someone goes out to beg for what is already in his own home, then he should be chastised. ||8||1||
