ਚੇਤ ਮੁਗਲ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਭਯਾ ਸੀਸ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ ॥

When the Mughal regained consciousness, he hung his head,
ਅਤਿ ਲਜਤ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਭਯਾ ਬੈਨ ਨ ਭਾਖ︀ਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
at lajat jiy mai bhayaa bain na bhaakhayo jaae |4|
He was so much ashamed that he could not speak.(4)
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਯਾਹਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਯਾ ਸੀਤਲ ਬਾਰਿ ਪਿਯਾਇ ॥
ab mai yaeh ubaariyaa seetal baar piyaae |
The woman told, ‘I have saved you by giving you cold water.’
ਸਭ ਸੌ ਐਸੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਦਿਯਾ ਉਠਾਇ ॥੫॥
sabh sau aisee bhaat keh taa kau diyaa utthaae |5|
And acting this way, she made him to go away.(5)

Emperor Jehangir had Noor Jehan as his Begum, the Rani.
ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਪਤਿ ਆਪਨਾ ਇਹ ਜਸ ਜਹਾ ਤਹਾ ॥੧॥

Whole world knew she was quite domineering over him.(1)

Noor Jehan said to him like this, ‘Listen, Jehangir, my Raja,
ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਆਜੁ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਜੈਹੈਂ ॥
ham tum aaj akhettak jaihain |
ਸਭ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕਹ ਸਾਥ ਬੁਲੈਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
sabh isatrin keh saath bulaihain |2|
‘Me and you go for hunting today and would take all the women with us.’(2)

ਜਹਾਗੀਰ ਏ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਖੇਲਨ ਚੜਾ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥

Acquiescing to her request, Jehangir set out to go for hunting,
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਆਯੋ ਬਨਹਿ ਮੰਝਾਰ ॥੩॥
sakhee sahelee sang lai aayo baneh manjhaar |3|
And reached the jungle with all the lady-friends.(3)
ਅਰੁਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਰੇ ਇਮਿ ਅਬਲਾ ਦੁਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
arun basatr tan meh dhare im abalaa dut dehi |
The ladies in their red clothes were looking so attractive,
ਨਰ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਕਾ ਸੁਰਨ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਚੁਰਾਏ ਲੇਹਿ ॥੪॥
nar bapure kaa suran ke chit churaae lehi |4|
That they were penetrating the hearts of both, the humans and the gods (4)
ਨਵਲ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਵਲੈ ਜੁਬਨ ਨਵਲਾ ਤਿਯਾ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
naval basatr navalai juban navalaa tiyaa anoop |
In new clothes, pristine youth, unique features,
ਤਾ ਕਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਡੋਲਹੀ ਰਤਿ ਸੇ ਸਕਲ ਸਰੂਪ ॥੫॥
taa kaanan mai ddolahee rat se sakal saroop |5|
And distinctive ear-wears, they were all looking exquisite.(5)
ਇਕ ਗੋਰੀ ਇਕ ਸਾਵਰੀ ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਝੂਮਰ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
eik goree ik saavaree has has jhoomar dehi |
Some fair and some with dark complexion,
ਜਹਾਗੀਰ ਨਰ ਨਾਹ ਕੀ ਸਗਲ ਬਲੈਯਾ ਲੇਹਿ ॥੬॥
jahaageer nar naah kee sagal balaiyaa lehi |6|
All were complimented by Jehangir.(6) .

ਜਹਾਗੀਰ ਕਹ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਵੈ ॥੭॥

They were gossiping, talking, and were bowing their heads to Jehangir.(7)

ਏਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਿ ਜਾਨੇ ਨਹਿ ਦੀਨੌ ॥

Some were sitting with their folded hands; they did not let any deer to pass through.
ਕੇਤਿਕ ਬੈਠ ਬਹਲ ਪਰ ਗਈ ॥

Holding a gun, Noor Jehan, as well, killed deer, antelopes and bears.
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਹਨੇ ਬੇਗਮਨ ਬਾਨਾ ॥

ਪਸੁਨ ਕਰਾ ਜਮ ਧਾਮ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥੧੧॥

Also a number of animals killed by the other begums reached the heaven.(11)

The deer were so affected by the looks of the Begums,
ਗਿਰੇ ਮੂਰਛਨਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਧਰਨਿ ਲਗੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਰ ਚੋਟਿ ॥੧੨॥
gire moorachhanaa hvai dharan lage binaa sar chott |12|
That they, without any hits, sacrificed their lives.(l2)
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਤੀਖਨ ਅਸਿ ਲਗੇ ਲੀਜਤ ਤਿਨੈ ਬਚਾਇ ॥
jin kai teekhan as lage leejat tinai bachaae |
Those who were struck with sharp swords could be saved,
ਜਿਨੈ ਦ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਕੇ ਸਰ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
jinai drigan ke sar lage tin ko kachh na upaae |13|
But the ones, who were pierced by the arrows through female eyes, could not be.(13)

A number of ladies rode the horses and injured the deer,
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਸਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
kinahoon mrigan drigan sar maare |
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਗਿਰਿ ਗਏ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੧੪॥
bin praanan gir ge bichaare |14|
And a few poor fellows lost their souls and fell down just effected by the arrows out of the female looks.(l4)
ਇਹੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਕੀਆ ਸਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

ਤਬ ਲੌ ਨਿਕਸਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tab lau nikasaa singh apaaraa |
The hunting was proceeding thus, when a huge lion emerged.
ਯਹ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਾਹ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
yeh dhun saah sravan sun paaee |
ਸਕਲ ਨਾਰਿ ਇਕਠੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਆਈ ॥੧੫॥

The Emperor heard the roar, as well, and all the ladies gathered round him.(15)

A shield (of protection), with the buffaloes, was created at the front,
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੇ ਹਜਰਤਿ ਚਲੇ ਬੇਗਮ ਸੰਗ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੧੬॥
taa paachhe hajarat chale begam sang suhaae |16|
And then followed the Emperor and the Begums,(l6)

Jehangir aimed and shot but could not hit the lion,
ਅਧਿਕ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
adhik kop kar kehar dhaayo |
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੇ ਊਪਰ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
paatisaah ke aoopar aayo |17|
The lion was infuriated and jumped towards the Emperor.(17)
ਹਰਿ ਧਾਵਤ ਹਥਿਨੀ ਭਜਿ ਗਈ ॥
har dhaavat hathinee bhaj gee |
ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਦਿਕ ਠਾਢ ਨ ਪਈ ॥
noor jahaadik tthaadt na pee |
The she-elephant ran away. Noor Jehan was stunned.
ਜੋਧ ਬਾਇ ਯਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jodh baae yeh taeh nihaariyo |
ਤਾਕਿ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੋ ਘਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
taak tupak ko ghaae prahaariyo |18|
When Jodha Bai noticed, she aimed and shot the gun.(18)

She came forward and made obeisance to the Rani three times.(l9)

Sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
ramat raam sabh rahio samaae |1|
The Lord is ever-present, all-pervading. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਰਾਮ ॥
sant janaa mil bolahu raam |
Joining the humble Saints, chant the Lord's Name.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

This is the most immaculate and perfect occupation of all. ||1||Pause||

Gather the treasure, the wealth of the Lord, Raam, Raam.

Let your sustenance be the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਵੀਸਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
raam raam veesar nahee jaae |
Never forget the Lord, Raam, Raam.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਤਾਇ ॥੨॥

Through the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam, I have become immaculate.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਗਏ ॥੩॥
janam janam ke kilabikh ge |3|
The sins of countless incarnations have been taken away. ||3||
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
ramat raam janam maran nivaarai |
Uttering the Lord's Name, birth and death are finished.
ਉਚਰਤ ਰਾਮ ਭੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੈ ॥
aucharat raam bhai paar utaarai |
Repeating the Lord's Name, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਰਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥
sabh te aooch raam paragaas |
The Luminous Lord is the highest of all.
ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੦॥
nis baasur jap naanak daas |4|8|10|
Night and day, servant Nanak meditates on Him. ||4||8||10||

My Lord and Master has held back the five demons.
ਦਾਸ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥
daas sang te maar bidaare |
He conquered them, and scared them away from the Lord's slave.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gobind bhagat kaa mehal na paaeaa |
They cannot find the mansion of the Lord's devotee.
ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
raam janaa mil mangal gaaeaa |1|
Joining together, the Lord's humble servants sing the songs of joy. ||1||
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੇ ਪੰਚ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ॥
sagal srisatt ke panch sikadaar |
The five demons are the rulers of the whole world,
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam bhagat ke paaneehaar |1| rahaau |
but they are just water-carriers for the Lord's devotee. ||1||Pause||
ਜਗਤ ਪਾਸ ਤੇ ਲੇਤੇ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
jagat paas te lete daan |
They collect taxes from the world,
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਲਾਮੁ ॥
gobind bhagat kau kareh salaam |
but they bow in subservience to God's devotees.
ਲੂਟਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵਹਿ ॥
loott lehi saakat pat khoveh |
They plunder and dishonor the faithless cynics,
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਪਗ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
saadh janaa pag mal mal dhoveh |2|
but they massage and wash the feet of the Holy. ||2||
ਪੰਚ ਪੂਤ ਜਣੇ ਇਕ ਮਾਇ ॥
panch poot jane ik maae |
The One Mother gave birth to the five sons,
ਉਤਭੁਜ ਖੇਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਆਇ ॥
autabhuj khel kar jagat viaae |
and began the play of the created world.
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਸੇ ॥
teen gunaa kai sang rach rase |
With the three qualities joined together, they celebrate.
ਇਨ ਕਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਸੇ ॥੩॥
ein kau chhodd aoopar jan base |3|
Renouncing these three qualities, the Lord's humble servants rise above them. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
kar kirapaa jan lee chhaddaae |
In His Mercy, He saves His humble servants.
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਸੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖੇ ਹਟਾਇ ॥
jis ke se tin rakhe hattaae |
They belong to Him, and so He saves them by driving out the five.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
kahu naanak bhagat prabh saar |
Says Nanak, devotion to God is noble and sublime.
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੧॥
bin bhagatee sabh hoe khuaar |4|9|11|
Without devotion, all just waste away uselessly. ||4||9||11||

Gond, Fifth Mehl:
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
kal kales mitte har naae |
Suffering and troubles are eradicated by the Lord's Name.
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਨੋ ਠਾਉ ॥
dukh binase sukh keeno tthaau |
Pain is dispelled, and peace takes its place.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
jap jap amrit naam aghaae |
Meditating, chanting the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am satisfied.
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਗਲ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
sant prasaad sagal fal paae |1|
By the Grace of the Saints, I have received all fruitful rewards. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਜਨ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
raam japat jan paar pare |
Meditating on the Lord, His humble servant is carried across,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam janam ke paap hare |1| rahaau |
and the sins of countless incarnations are taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur ke charan ridai ur dhaare |
I have enshrined the Guru's feet within my heart,
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰੇ ॥
agan saagar te utare paare |
and crossed over the ocean of fire.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਸਭ ਮਿਟੀ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥
janam maran sabh mittee upaadh |
All the painful diseases of birth and death have been eradicated.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥੨॥
prabh siau laagee sehaj samaadh |2|
I am attached to God in celestial Samaadhi. ||2||
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
thaan thanantar eko suaamee |
In all places and interspaces, the One, our Lord and Master is contained.
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
sagal ghattaa kaa antarajaamee |
He is the Inner-knower of all hearts.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
kar kirapaa jaa kau mat dee |
One whom the Lord blesses with understanding,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਲੇਇ ॥੩॥
aatth pehar prabh kaa naau lee |3|
chants the Name of God, twenty-four hours a day. ||3||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
jaa kai antar vasai prabh aap |
Deep within, God Himself abides;
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
taa kai hiradai hoe pragaas |
within his heart, the Divine Light shines forth.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
bhagat bhaae har keeratan kareeai |
With loving devotion, sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੨॥
jap paarabraham naanak nisatareeai |4|10|12|
Meditate on the Supreme Lord God, O Nanak, and you shall be saved. ||4||10||12||

Gond, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿ ॥
gur ke charan kamal namasakaar |
Bow in humility to the lotus feet of the Guru.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
kaam krodh is tan te maar |
Eliminate sexual desire and anger from this body.
ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
hoe raheeai sagal kee reenaa |
Be the dust of all,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
ghatt ghatt rameea sabh meh cheenaa |1|
and see the Lord in each and every heart, in all. ||1||
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਮਹੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
ein bidh ramahu gopaal goubind |
In this way, dwell upon the Lord of the World, the Lord of the Universe.
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan dhan prabh kaa prabh kee jind |1| rahaau |
My body and wealth belong to God; my soul belongs to God. ||1||Pause||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
aatth pehar har ke gun gaau |
Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
jeea praan ko ihai suaau |
This is the purpose of human life.
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
taj abhimaan jaan prabh sang |
Renounce your egotistical pride, and know that God is with you.
ਸਾਧ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
saadh prasaad har siau man rang |2|
By the Grace of the Holy, let your mind be imbued with the Lord's Love. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
jin toon keea tis kau jaan |
Know the One who created you,
ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
aagai daragah paavai maan |
and in the world hereafter you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
man tan niramal hoe nihaal |
Your mind and body will be immaculate and blissful;
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੩॥
rasanaa naam japat gopaal |3|
chant the Name of the Lord of the Universe with your tongue. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kar kirapaa mere deen deaalaa |
Grant Your Kind Mercy, O my Lord, Merciful to the meek.
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥
saadhoo kee man mangai ravaalaa |
My mind begs for the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
hohu deaal dehu prabh daan |
Be merciful, and bless me with this gift,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੩॥
naanak jap jeevai prabh naam |4|11|13|
that Nanak may live, chanting God's Name. ||4||11||13||
