ਐਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਰਤ ਭਯਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਢੀਲੋ ਸਰਬੰਗ ॥

He spoke very Politely and said ‘Oh My Shah
ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੋ ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰੌ ਸਾਹੁ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ਸੰਗ ॥੧੩॥
muharan ko sauadaa karau saahu tihaare sang |13|
‘Do you want to trade these gold coin with me?’ (13)
ਮਦਨ ਰਾਇ ਠਗ ਇਮ ਕਹੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥

Madan Rai, the swindler, had said this after careful reflection,
ਲੈ ਮੁਹਰੈ ਰੁਪਯਾ ਦੇਵੌ ਤੁਮ ਕਹ ਸਾਹ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥੧੪॥
lai muharai rupayaa devau tum keh saah sudhaar |14|
‘Let us do a deal. You give me Gold coins in exchange of coins rupees.’(I4)

ਯੌ ਜਬ ਸਾਹ ਬੈਨਿ ਸੁਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

ਕਾਢਿ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਧਨੀ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥
kaadt asarafee dhanee kahaayo |
When the Shah listened to the preposition, he brought out the coin
ਠਗ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਬੈ ਤੇ ਪਰੀ ॥
tthag kee drisatt jabai te paree |
ਸਭ ਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਧਰੀ ॥੧੫॥
sabh san kee man bheetar dharee |15|
The swindler looked at the coins and checked the dates of minting. (15)
ਮੁਹਿਰੈ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੁਥਰਿਯਹਿ ਲਈ ॥
muhirai ddaar guthariyeh lee |
ਅਧਿਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਨਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਦਈ ॥
adhik maar baniyaa keh dee |
He left the coins there, picked up the bag, started to beat the Shah.
ਊਚੇ ਸੋਰ ਕਰਾ ਪੁਰ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
aooche sor karaa pur maahee |
ਮੈ ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕਹ ਬੇਚਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧੬॥
mai muharan keh bechat naahee |16|
And began to shout very loud, ‘I do not want to sell the coins.’(l6)
ਸੋਰ ਸੁਨਤ ਪੁਰ ਜਨ ਸਭ ਧਾਏ ॥
sor sunat pur jan sabh dhaae |
ਵਾ ਬਨਿਯਾ ਠਗ ਕੇ ਢਿਗ ਆਏ ॥
vaa baniyaa tthag ke dtig aae |
People gathered around and saw them in altercation.
ਮੁਸਟ ਜੁਧ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ ॥

ਤਿਹ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਕਹ ਪੂਛਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧੭॥
tih duhoonan keh poochhan laage |17|
They were surprised to see them in scuffle and asked the reason.(17)
ਤੁਮ ਕ︀ਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੋ ਭਾਈ ॥
tum kayo judh karat ho bhaaee |
ਹਮੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਸਭ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
hamai kahahu sabh brithaa sunaaee |
‘Why are you fighting, tell us the whole story.’
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਕਹ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਗਹਿ ਲੈਹੈ ॥
duhoonan keh ab hee geh laihai |
ਲੈ ਕਾਜੀ ਪੈ ਨ︀ਯਾਇ ਚੁਕੈਹੈ ॥੧੮॥
lai kaajee pai nayaae chukaihai |18|
They caught hold of them both and told them to go to the Quazi, the priest arbitrator.(18)
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਉਦਿਤ ਠਗ ਭਯੋ ॥
sunat bachan udit tthag bhayo |
ਤਾ ਕਹ ਲੈ ਕਾਜੀ ਪਹ ਗਯੋ ॥
taa keh lai kaajee peh gayo |
The swindler readily agreed and taking the Shah with him left for the Quazi.
ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਦੀਨ ਪੁਕਾਰੋ ॥
adhik dukhit hvai deen pukaaro |
ਕਰਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਤੈ ਨ︀ਯਾਇ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੯॥
kar kaajee tai nayaae hamaaro |19|
With great distress he requested the Quazi to do the justice.(19)

ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਬਨਿਯਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਦੁਖੀ ਇਮਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਬੈਨ ॥

The Shah too, in agony begged the Quazi,
ਹਮਰੌ ਕਰੌ ਨਿਯਾਇ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸ੍ਰਵਤ ਜਲ ਨੈਨ ॥੨੦॥
hamarau karau niyaae tum kahiyo sravat jal nain |20|
And asked him to do full justice.(20)

ਅਧਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਠਗ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨੁ ਕਾਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਰਾਇ ॥
adhik deen hvai tthag kahiyo sun kaajin ke raae |
‘Listen Quazi; listen to our accounts, keeping in mind the honour of Allah.
ਹਮ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਤੁਮ ਪੈ ਕਰੀ ਹਮਰੋ ਕਰੋ ਨ︀ਯਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
ham pukaar tum pai karee hamaro karo nayaae |22|
‘God, Almighty is all perceptive and hope He will facilitate us.(22)

Then the Quazi pondered over and addressed both in the gathering.
ਜੋ ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੇ ਸਨਹਿ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
jo muharan ke saneh bataavai |
ਸੋ ਸਭ ਆਜੁ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨੩॥
so sabh aaj asarafee paavai |23|
‘The person who tells the date of minting will take over the coins.’(23)
ਸਨ ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੋ ਬਨਿਕ ਨ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
san muharan ko banik na jaano |
ਮੂੰਦਿ ਰਹਾ ਮੁਖ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
moond rahaa mukh kachh na bakhaano |
As the Shah did not know the date of min ting, he closed his eye and kept his mouth shut.
ਰੋਇ ਪੀਟ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥
roe peett kar karat pukaaraa |

ਹਾਹਾ ਕਿਯਸਿ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੨੪॥

Then he cried incessantly and complained ‘Oh God why have you done this to me?’(24)

ਇਨੑਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਤੁਮੑਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
eina maaeaa jagadees gusaaee tumare charan bisaare |
This Maya has made me forget Your feet, O Lord of the World, Master of the Universe.
ਕਿੰਚਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਜਨ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੇਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kinchat preet na upajai jan kau jan kahaa kareh bechaare |1| rahaau |
Not even a bit of love wells up in Your humble servant; what can Your poor servant do? ||1||Pause||
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਤਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਫੰਨੀ ॥
dhrig tan dhrig dhan dhrig ih maaeaa dhrig dhrig mat budh fanee |
Cursed is the body, cursed is the wealth, and cursed is this Maya; cursed, cursed is the clever intellect and understanding.
ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਆਪ ਬਚੰਨੀ ॥੧॥
eis maaeaa kau drirr kar raakhahu baandhe aap bachanee |1|
Restrain and hold back this Maya; overcome it, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਿਆ ਲੇਵਾ ਦੇਈ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਝੂਠੁ ਗੁਮਾਨਾ ॥
kiaa khetee kiaa levaa deee parapanch jhootth gumaanaa |
What good is farming, and what good is trading? Worldly entanglements and pride are false.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਤੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਬਿਗੂਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੯॥
keh kabeer te ant bigoote aaeaa kaal nidaanaa |2|9|
Says Kabeer, in the end, they are ruined; ultimately, Death will come for them. ||2||9||

ਸਰੀਰ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਭੀਤਰੇ ਆਛੈ ਕਮਲ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
sareer sarovar bheetare aachhai kamal anoop |
Within the pool of the body, there is an incomparably beautiful lotus flower.
ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੋ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੂਪ ॥੧॥
param jot purakhotamo jaa kai rekh na roop |1|
Within it, is the Supreme Light, the Supreme Soul, who has no feature or form. ||1||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
re man har bhaj bhram tajahu jagajeevan raam |1| rahaau |
O my mind, vibrate, meditate on the Lord, and forsake your doubt. The Lord is the Life of the World. ||1||Pause||
ਆਵਤ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਦੀਸਈ ਨਹ ਦੀਸੈ ਜਾਤ ॥
aavat kachhoo na deesee neh deesai jaat |
Nothing is seen coming into the world, and nothing is seen leaving it.
ਜਹ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਹੀ ਜੈਸੇ ਪੁਰਿਵਨ ਪਾਤ ॥੨॥
jeh upajai binasai tahee jaise purivan paat |2|
Where the body is born, there it dies, like the leaves of the water-lily. ||2||
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
mithiaa kar maaeaa tajee sukh sehaj beechaar |
Maya is false and transitory; forsaking it, one obtains peaceful, celestial contemplation.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੰਝਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੩॥੧੦॥
keh kabeer sevaa karahu man manjh muraar |3|10|
Says Kabeer, serve Him within your mind; He is the Enemy of ego, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||10||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
janam maran kaa bhram geaa gobid liv laagee |
The illusion of birth and death is gone; I lovingly focus on the Lord of the Universe.
ਜੀਵਤ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਜਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeevat sun samaaniaa gur saakhee jaagee |1| rahaau |
In my life, I am absorbed in deep silent meditation; the Guru's Teachings have awakened me. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਸੀ ਤੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਕਾਸੀ ਜਾਈ ॥
kaasee te dhun aoopajai dhun kaasee jaaee |
The sound made from bronze, that sound goes into the bronze again.
ਕਾਸੀ ਫੂਟੀ ਪੰਡਿਤਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਕਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
kaasee foottee pandditaa dhun kahaan samaaee |1|
But when the bronze is broken, O Pandit, O religious scholar, where does the sound go then? ||1||
ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਮੈ ਪੇਖਿਆ ਘਟ ਹੂ ਘਟ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
trikuttee sandh mai pekhiaa ghatt hoo ghatt jaagee |
I gaze upon the world, the confluence of the three qualities; God is awake and aware in each and every heart.
ਐਸੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਮਾਚਰੀ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
aisee budh samaacharee ghatt maeh tiaagee |2|
Such is the understanding revealed to me; within my heart, I have become a detached renunciate. ||2||
ਆਪੁ ਆਪ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤੇਜ ਤੇਜੁ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
aap aap te jaaniaa tej tej samaanaa |
I have come to know my own self, and my light has merged in the Light.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥੧੧॥
kahu kabeer ab jaaniaa gobid man maanaa |3|11|
Says Kabeer, now I know the Lord of the Universe, and my mind is satisfied. ||3||11||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਹਿ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਡੋਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥
charan kamal jaa kai ridai baseh so jan kiau ddolai dev |
When Your Lotus Feet dwell within one's heart, why should that person waver, O Divine Lord?
ਮਾਨੌ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਸੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maanau sabh sukh nau nidh taa kai sehaj sehaj jas bolai dev | rahaau |
I know that all comforts, and the nine treasures, come to one who intuitively, naturally, chants the Praise of the Divine Lord. ||Pause||
ਤਬ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਜਉ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖੈ ਕੁਟਿਲ ਗਾਂਠਿ ਜਬ ਖੋਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥
tab ih mat jau sabh meh pekhai kuttil gaantth jab kholai dev |
Such wisdom comes, only when one sees the Lord in all, and unties the knot of hypocrisy.
ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਅਟਕੈ ਲੈ ਨਰਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਤੋਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥
baaran baar maaeaa te attakai lai narajaa man tolai dev |1|
Time and time again, he must hold himself back from Maya; let him take the scale of the Lord, and weigh his mind. ||1||
ਜਹ ਉਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਾਸੁ ਨ ਝੋਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥
jeh uhu jaae tahee sukh paavai maaeaa taas na jholai dev |
Then wherever he goes, he will find peace, and Maya will not shake him.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀਓ ਲੈ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥੧੨॥
keh kabeer meraa man maaniaa raam preet keeo lai dev |2|12|
Says Kabeer, my mind believes in the Lord; I am absorbed in the Love of the Divine Lord. ||2||12||
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਗਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਕੀ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
safal janam mo kau gur keenaa |
The Guru has made my life fruitful.
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
dukh bisaar sukh antar leenaa |1|
My pain is forgotten, and I have found peace deep within myself. ||1||
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
giaan anjan mo kau gur deenaa |
The Guru has blessed me with the ointment of spiritual wisdom.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਮਨ ਹੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam bin jeevan man heenaa |1| rahaau |
Without the Lord's Name, life is mindless. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮਦੇਇ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
naamadee simaran kar jaanaan |
Meditating in remembrance, Naam Dayv has come to know the Lord.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ॥੨॥੧॥
jagajeevan siau jeeo samaanaan |2|1|
His soul is blended with the Lord, the Life of the World. ||2||1||
