ਖੇਲਿ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਆਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਤਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗ ॥
khel akhettak aan nrip rat maanee tih sang |
After hunting he made love to that girl.
ਇਹੀ ਬੀਚ ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਾਟ ਰੀਛ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ॥੫॥
eihee beech aavat bhayo jaatt reechh kai sang |5|
In the meantime, there arrived the peasant who was looking like an ugly bear.(5)
ਜਾਟਾਵਤ ਲਖਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਡਰਿਯੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਡਰਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jaattaavat lakh nrip ddariyo kahiyo na ddar bal jaau |
The peasant’s arrival made the Raja scared, but the woman pacified him,
ਤਿਹ ਦੇਖਤ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਹੌ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਧਰਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੬॥
tih dekhat tuhi kaadt hau taa ke sir dhar paau |6|
‘Be not afraid. While the peasant is still watching, I will make you to cross over by putting your foot on his head.’(6)

ਏਕ ਕੁਠਰਿਯਾ ਬੀਚ ਰਾਵ ਕੋ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ॥

ਰੋਇ ਬਚਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
roe bachan moorakh so ih bidh bhaakhiyo |
She hid the Raja in the inner dark room and came out crying and said
ਰੈਨ ਸਮੈ ਇਕ ਬੁਰੋ ਸੁਪਨ ਮੁਹਿ ਆਇਯੋ ॥
rain samai ik buro supan muhi aaeiyo |
ਹੋ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਤੋ ਕਹ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਚਬਾਇਯੋ ॥੭॥
ho jaanuk to keh sayaam bhujang chabaaeiyo |7|
To that naive, ‘I had a bad dream last night you were bitten by a black reptile.(7)

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਦਨ ਦਿਜਬਰ ਲਿਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
taa te mai apane sadan dijabar liyo bulaae |
‘(To seek an antidote) I called a Brahmin to the house,
ਉਨ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਭੇਦ ਸਕਲ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥੮॥
aun mo ko aise kahiyo bhed sakal samajhaae |8|
‘And the Brahmin made me to understand this.(8)
ਜੋ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਰਿ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪੈ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
jo koaoo naar patibrataa jaap japai hit laae |
‘A Raja-like person was manifested
ਅਕਸ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੈ ਪੁਰਖ ਏਕ ਭੂਪ ਕੇ ਭਾਇ ॥੯॥
akas maatr pragattai purakh ek bhoop ke bhaae |9|
When a chaste woman meditated with devotion.(9)
ਜੌ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਜਾਇ ਧਰਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਾਵ ਬਡਭਾਗ ॥
jau tumare sir jaae dhar purakh paav baddabhaag |
‘If that person walked over putting his feet on your head and saying nothing,
ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਜੀਵਤ ਬਚੋ ਹਮਰੋ ਬਚੈ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧੦॥
jo tum hoon jeevat bacho hamaro bachai suhaag |10|
‘Then you could live long and save my nuptial tie.(10)
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਵ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਭਏ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੌ ਜਾਇ ॥
taa te tav aagayaa bhe jaap japat hau jaae |
‘Now with your permission I meditate because with your demise I
ਤੁਮਰੇ ਮਰੇ ਮੈ ਜਰਿ ਮਰੋ ਜਿਯੇ ਜਿਵੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੧॥
tumare mare mai jar maro jiye jivo sukh paae |11|
Will immolate myself and along with your life (hereafter) I will enjoy the serenity.’(11)
ਜੌ ਹੌ ਹੋ ਸੁ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਾ ਜੌ ਮੋ ਮੈ ਸਤ ਆਇ ॥
jau hau ho su patibrataa jau mo mai sat aae |
Then the woman mediated and beseeched, ‘If I am chaste and virtuous,
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਬ ਜਾਇ ਧਰਿ ਯਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
ek purakh tab jaae dhar yaa ke sir par paae |12|
A personality should manifest and walk over putting one foot on the head of my husband.’(l2)
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਪਗ ਠਾਨਿ ॥
sunat bachan raajaa utthiyo taa ke sir pag tthaan |
Hearing this the Raja got up, putting his foot on his head walked
ਗਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ︀ਯ ਮੂਰਖ ਭਯੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੧੩॥
gayo prasanay moorakh bhayo triyaa patibrat jaan |13|
Over. And that fool, considering his wife to be beyond reproach, was delighted.( 13)(1)

ਸਾਹਜਹਾਨਾਬਾਦ ਮੈ ਏਕ ਤੁਰਕ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

A Muslim woman used to live in the city of Shahjehanbad.
ਇਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਯੋ ਸੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਹੋ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
eik charitr at tin kiyo so tuhi kaho sudhaar |1|
Now, with due modification, I re-narrate the wonder she performed.(l)
ਅਨਿਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
anik purakh taa so sadaa nis din kel kamaeh |
Day and night numerous persons came to her and frolicked in making love.
ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਹੇਰਿ ਲਾਜਤ ਤਿਨੈ ਇਕ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
svaan her laajat tinai ik aaveh ik jaeh |2|
Even the dogs were ashamed of her actions.(2)

ਸੋ ਇਕ ਰਹੈ ਮੁਗਲ ਕੀ ਬਾਮਾ ॥

She was the daughter of a Mughal and
ਜੈਨਾਬਾਦੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
jainaabaadee taa ko naamaa |
Her name was Zainabadi.
ਬਹੁ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਸੋ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
bahu purakhan so kel kamaavai |
Indulging in lovemaking
ਅਧਿਕ ਢੀਠ ਨਹਿ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਲਜਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
adhik dteetth neh hridai lajaavai |3|

ਜਾਹਿਦ ਖਾ ਆਗੇ ਹੁਤੋ ਬੇਗ ਯੂਸਫ ਗਯੋ ਆਇ ॥
jaahid khaa aage huto beg yoosaf gayo aae |
A person called Zaahid Khan was with her when another person, named Yusaf Khan, came as well.
ਭਰਭਰਾਇ ਉਠ ਠਾਢ ਭੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੈਦ ਠਹਰਾਇ ॥੪॥
bharabharaae utth tthaadt bhee taeh baid tthaharaae |4|
She got up abruptly and told Zaahid Khan, ‘I have called in a vaid, the lay-doctor, for you.’(4)

ਟਰਿ ਆਗੇ ਤਿਹ ਲਿਯੋ ਬਚਨ ਯੌ ਭਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
ttar aage tih liyo bachan yau bhaakhiyo |
She came forward and said that she had called in a vaid,
ਤੁਮਰੇ ਅਰਥਹਿ ਬੈਦ ਬੋਲਿ ਮੈ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
tumare aratheh baid bol mai raakhiyo |
Just for him (Zaahid Khan).
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬੇਗਿ ਇਲਾਜ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਕਰਾਇਯੈ ॥
taa te beg ilaaj bulaae karaaeiyai |
She stressed him to come forward, get treated immediately,
ਹੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਅਬੈ ਅਰੋਗ ਤੁਰਤ ਘਰ ਜਾਇਯੈ ॥੫॥
ho hvai kar abai arog turat ghar jaaeiyai |5|
And briskly leave for his home after becoming disease free.(5)

ਦੌਰੇ ਆਵਤ ਹੌਕਨੀ ਸੋਏ ਊਰਧ ਸ੍ਵਾਸ ॥
dauare aavat hauakanee soe aooradh svaas |
‘Running to this house, you become breathless, in sleep you breath enigmatically and you are always feeling pain in your knees.
ਬਹੁ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਾਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੈ ਯਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਦੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥੬॥
bahu tthaadte jaanoo dukhai yahai tridokh prakaas |6|
‘You are suffering from a triple-disease,(6)

ਤੁਮਰੋ ਕਰੋ ਇਲਾਜ ਨ ਹਾਸੀ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
tumaro karo ilaaj na haasee jaaniyo |
‘I will get you treated there is nothing to laugh at.
ਰੋਗ ਹੇਤ ਅਨੁਸਰੌ ਬੁਰੈ ਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
rog het anusarau burai mat maaniyo |
‘One should not refrain the treatment must match the disease and one should not desist.
ਬੈਦ ਧਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਤ ਤੇ ਭੇਦ ਦੁਰਾਇਯੈ ॥
baid dhaae gur mit te bhed duraaeiyai |
‘One should not keep ailment in secret from a vaid, a midwife, a guru and a friend.
ਹੋ ਕਹੌ ਕਵਨ ਕੇ ਆਗੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਨਾਇਯੈ ॥੭॥
ho kahau kavan ke aage brithaa janaaeiyai |7|
‘There is no one else to whom we could open our minds.’(7)
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਹੋਈਐ ਆਰੋਗ ॥
har har har aaraadheeai hoeeai aarog |
Worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and you shall be free of disease.
ਰਾਮਚੰਦ ਕੀ ਲਸਟਿਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਰੋਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raamachand kee lasattikaa jin maariaa rog |1| rahaau |
This is the Lord's healing rod, which eradicates all disease. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਕੀਚੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
gur pooraa har jaapeeai nit keechai bhog |
Meditating on the Lord, through the Perfect Guru, he constantly enjoys pleasure.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥
saadhasangat kai vaaranai miliaa sanjog |1|
I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I have been united with my Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਬਿਓਗੁ ॥
jis simarat sukh paaeeai binasai biog |
Contemplating Him, peace is obtained, and separation is ended.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥੩੪॥੬੪॥
naanak prabh saranaagatee karan kaaran jog |2|34|64|
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, the All-powerful Creator, the Cause of causes. ||2||34||64||

ਅਵਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਦਾਰੂ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥
avar upaav sabh tiaagiaa daaroo naam leaa |
I have given up all other efforts, and have taken the medicine of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਰੋਗ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥
taap paap sabh mitte rog seetal man bheaa |1|
Fevers, sins and all diseases are eradicated, and my mind is cooled and soothed. ||1||
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
gur pooraa aaraadhiaa sagalaa dukh geaa |
Worshipping the Perfect Guru in adoration, all pains are dispelled.
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakhanahaarai raakhiaa apanee kar meaa |1| rahaau |
The Savior Lord has saved me; He has blessed me with His Kind Mercy. ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਕੀਨਾ ਅਪਨਇਆ ॥
baah pakarr prabh kaadtiaa keenaa apaneaa |
Grabbing hold of my arm, God has pulled me up and out; He has made me His own.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਇਆ ॥੨॥੧॥੬੫॥
simar simar man tan sukhee naanak nirabheaa |2|1|65|
Meditating, meditating in remembrance, my mind and body are at peace; Nanak has become fearless. ||2||1||65||

ਕਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨਿ ॥
kar dhar masatak thaapiaa naam deeno daan |
Placing His Hand upon my forehead, God has given me the gift of His Name.
ਸਫਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
safal sevaa paarabraham kee taa kee nahee haan |1|
One who performs fruitful service for the Supreme Lord God, never suffers any loss. ||1||
ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਖਤਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੀ ਆਨਿ ॥
aape hee prabh raakhataa bhagatan kee aan |
God Himself saves the honor of His devotees.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੋ ਲੇਤਾ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo jo chitaveh saadh jan so letaa maan |1| rahaau |
Whatever God's Holy servants wish for, He grants to them. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥
saran pare charanaarabind jan prabh ke praan |
God's humble servants seek the Sanctuary of His Lotus Feet; they are God's very breath of life.
ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨ ॥੨॥੨॥੬੬॥
sehaj subhaae naanak mile jotee jot samaan |2|2|66|
O Nanak, they automatically, intuitively meet God; their light merges into the Light. ||2||2||66||

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੀਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ॥

God Himself has given me the Support of His Lotus Feet.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਪਰੇ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਸਦ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥
prabh saranaagat jan pare taa kaa sad parataap |1|
God's humble servants seek His Sanctuary; they are respected and famous forever. ||1||
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੇਵ ॥
raakhanahaar apaar prabh taa kee niramal sev |
God is the unparalleled Savior and Protector; service to Him is immaculate and pure.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਪੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam raaj raamadaas pur keenae guradev |1| rahaau |
The Divine Guru has built the City of Ramdaspur, the royal domain of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
sadaa sadaa har dhiaaeeai kichh bighan na laagai |
Forever and ever, meditate on the Lord, and no obstacles will obstruct you.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਇ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੬੭॥
naanak naam salaaheeai bhe dusaman bhaagai |2|3|67|
O Nanak, praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the fear of enemies runs away. ||2||3||67||

man tan prabh aaraadheeai mil saadh samaagai |
Worship and adore God in your mind and body; join the Company of the Holy.
ਉਚਰਤ ਗੁਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਜਸੁ ਦੂਰ ਤੇ ਜਮੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
aucharat gun gopaal jas door te jam bhaagai |1|
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the Messenger of Death runs far away. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਜਪੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
raam naam jo jan japai anadin sad jaagai |
That humble being who chants the Lord's Name, remains always awake and aware, night and day.
ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਨਹ ਜੋਹਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tant mant neh johee tith chaakh na laagai |1| rahaau |
He is not affected by charms and spells, nor is he harmed by the evil eye. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦ ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਅਨਰਾਗੈ ॥
kaam krodh mad maan moh binase anaraagai |
Sexual desire, anger, the intoxication of egotism and emotional attachment are dispelled, by loving devotion.
ਆਨੰਦ ਮਗਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਾਗੈ ॥੨॥੪॥੬੮॥
aanand magan ras raam rang naanak saranaagai |2|4|68|
One who enters the Lord's Sanctuary, O Nanak, remains merged in ecstasy in the subtle essence of the Lord's Love. ||2||4||68||
