ਦਾਨ ਆਨਿ ਪੁਜਿਯੋ ਤਬੈ ਗ︀ਯਾਨ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥

daan aan pujiyo tabai gayaan baan lai haath |

ਜੁਆਨ ਜਾਨਿ ਮਾਰ︀ਯੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੩੧੧॥

juaan jaan maarayo tisai dhayaan mantr ke saath |311|

Then the warrior name Daan, taking the arrows of Gyan in his hand, performed worship and gave offerings, charming it with Dhyan, he discharged it on that Youngman.84.311.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਰਣੰ ਉਛਲ︀ਯੋ ਦਾਨ ਜੋਧਾ ਮਹਾਨੰ ॥

ranan uchhalayo daan jodhaa mahaanan |

ਸਭੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ॥

sabhai sasatr betaa at asatran nidhaanan |

The warriors named Daan sprang up in the war-arena, who was the store of arms, weapons and garments

ਦਸੰ ਬਾਣ ਸੋ ਲੋਭ ਕੋ ਬਛਿ ਮਾਰ︀ਯੋ ॥

dasan baan so lobh ko bachh maarayo |

Taking ten arrows, he discharged them on the waist-area of Lobh

ਸਰੰ ਸਪਤ ਸੋ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੋ ਦੇਹੁ ਤਾਰ︀ਯੋ ॥੩੧੨॥

saran sapat so krodh ko dehu taarayo |312|

He seemed to be swimming in the seven oceans of Krodha.85.312.

ਨਵੰ ਬਾਣ ਬੇਧ੍ਰਯੋ ਅਨੰਨ੍ਰਯਾਸ ਬੀਰੰ ॥

navan baan bedhrayo ananrayaas beeran |

ਤ੍ਰਿਯੋ ਤੀਰ ਭੇਦ︀ਯੋ ਅਨਾਬਰਤ ਧੀਰੰ ॥

triyo teer bhedayo anaabarat dheeran |

With nine arrows, he pierced the warrior named Anyaaya (injustice) and the warriors named Avarai was pierced with three arrows

ਭਯੋ ਭੇਦਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੰ ਸਤੰਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

bhayo bhed krodhan satansang maare |

With seven arrows, he wounded the warrior named karodh (anger)

ਭਈ ਧੀਰ ਧਰਮੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੩੧੩॥

bhee dheer dharaman braham giaan taare |313|

In this way Brahm-Gyan (Knowledge of God or Dharma) was patiently established.86.313.

ਕਈ ਬਾਣ ਕੁਲਹਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਕੋ ਚਲਾਏ ॥

kee baan kulahatrataa ko chalaae |

ਕਈ ਬਾਣ ਲੈ ਬੈਰ ਕੇ ਬੀਰ ਘਾਏ ॥

kee baan lai bair ke beer ghaae |

Several arrows discharged at Kalah, making him the target and with many arrows the warriors of Vair (enmity) were killed

ਕਿਤੇ ਘਾਇ ਆਲਸ ਕੈ ਅੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

kite ghaae aalas kai ang laage |

ਸਬੈ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਆਦਿ ਲੈ ਬੀਰ ਭਾਗੇ ॥੩੧੪॥

sabai narak te aad lai beer bhaage |314|

Many arrows struck the limbs of Aalas (laziness) and all these warriors fled towards hell.87.314.

ਇਕੈ ਬਾਣ ਨਿਸੀਲ ਕੋ ਅੰਗ ਛੇਦ︀ਯੋ ॥

eikai baan niseel ko ang chhedayo |

ਦੁਤੀ ਕੁਸਤਤਾ ਕੋ ਭਲੈ ਸੂਤ ਭੇਦ︀ਯੋ ॥

dutee kusatataa ko bhalai soot bhedayo |

With one arrow the limb of Asheel was pierced and the second arrow was very nicely inflicted Kutisata

ਗੁਮਾਨਾਦਿ ਕੇ ਚਾਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥

gumaanaad ke chaar baajee sanghaare |

ਅਨਰਥਾਦਿ ਕੇ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੩੧੫॥

anarathaad ke beer baake nivaare |315|

The comely horses of Abhiman (ego) were killed and also destroyed the fighters of ANARTH etc.88.315.

ਪਿਪਾਸਾ ਛੁਧਾ ਆਲਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਾਨੇ ॥

pipaasaa chhudhaa aalasaad paraane |

ਭਜ︀ਯੋ ਲੋਭ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੀ ਹਠੀ ਦੇਵ ਜਾਨੇ ॥

bhajayo lobh krodhee hatthee dev jaane |

Pipasa (thirst), Kshudha (hunger), Aalas (laziness) etc. ran away and knowing the enragement of Daviva (divinity), Lobh (greed) also ran away

ਤਪ︀ਯੋ ਨੇਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਅਨੇਮੰ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਸੀ ॥

tapayo nem naamaa aneman pranaasee |

ਧਰੇ ਜੋਗ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਅਲੋਭੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥੩੧੬॥

dhare jog asatran alobhee udaasee |316|

The destroyer of Aniyam (indiscipline), Niyam (principle) also became enraged and that detached one without greed assumed Yogastras (the arms of Yoga).89.316.

ਹਤ੍ਰਯੋ ਕਾਪਟੰ ਖਾਪਟੰ ਸੋਕ ਪਾਲੰ ॥

hatrayo kaapattan khaapattan sok paalan |

ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹੰ ਸਕਾਮੰ ਕਰਾਲੰ ॥

hanayo roh mohan sakaaman karaalan |

The head of Kapat (deception) was broken and he was killed and the dreadful warriors like Rosh (anger), Moha (attachments), Kaam (lust) etc. were also killed in great fury,

ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੋ ਬਾਨ ਮਾਰ︀ਯੋ ॥

mahaa krudh kai krodh ko baan maarayo |

ਖਿਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦੋਖਾਦਿ ਸਰਬੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ︀ਯੋ ॥੩੧੭॥

khisrayo braham dokhaad saraban prahaarayo |317|

He shot and arrow on Karodh (anger) and in this way, the Lord in anger destroyed all the sufferings.90.317.

Salok:

ਚਿਤਿ ਜਿ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

chit ji chitaviaa so mai paaeaa |

Whatever I wish for, that I receive.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

naanak naam dhiaae sukh sabaaeaa |4|

Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Nanak has found total peace. ||4||

Chhant:

ਅਬ ਮਨੁ ਛੂਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥

ab man chhoott geaa saadhoo sang mile |

My mind is now emancipated; I have joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲੇ ॥

guramukh naam leaa jotee jot rale |

As Gurmukh, I chant the Naam, and my light has merged into the Light.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਿਟੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬੁਝੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨਿਆ ॥

har naam simarat mitte kilabikh bujhee tapat aghaaniaa |

Remembering the Lord's Name in meditation, my sins have been erased; the fire has been extinguished, and I am satisfied.

ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

geh bhujaa leene deaa keene aapane kar maaniaa |

He has taken me by the arm, and blessed me with His kind mercy; He has accepted me His own.

ਲੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥

lai ank laae har milaae janam maranaa dukh jale |

The Lord has hugged me in His embrace, and merged me with Himself; the pains of birth and death have been burnt away.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਲੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

binavant naanak deaa dhaaree mel leene ik pale |4|2|

Prays Nanak, He has blessed me with His kind mercy; in an instant, He unites me with Himself. ||4||2||

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਛੰਤ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

jaitasaree chhant mahalaa 5 |

Jaitsree, Chhant, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਾਧਾਣੂ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ॥

paadhaanoo sansaar gaarab attiaa |

The world is like a temporary way-station, but it is filled with pride.

ਕਰਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਰਟਿਆ ॥

karate paap anek maaeaa rang rattiaa |

People commit countless sins; they are dyed in the color of the love of Maya.

ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ਬੂਡੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥

lobh mohi abhimaan boodde maran cheet na aave |

In greed, emotional attachment and egotism, they are drowning; they do not even think of dying.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਏਹ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵਏ ॥

putr mitr biauhaar banitaa eeh karat bihaave |

Children, friends, worldly occupations and spouses - they talk of these things, while their lives are passing away.

ਪੁਜਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਆਏ ਲਿਖੇ ਮਾਏ ਦੁਖੁ ਧਰਮ ਦੂਤਹ ਡਿਠਿਆ ॥

puj divas aae likhe maae dukh dharam dootah dditthiaa |

When their pre-ordained days have run their course, O mother, they behold the Messengers of the Righteous Judge of Dharma, and they suffer.

ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਖਟਿਆ ॥੧॥

kirat karam na mittai naanak har naam dhan nahee khattiaa |1|

The karma of their past deeds cannot be erased, O Nanak, if they have not earned the wealth of the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਉਦਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਗਾਵਹੀ ॥

audam kareh anek har naam na gaavahee |

He makes all sorts of efforts, but he does not sing the Lord's Name.

ਭਰਮਹਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਆਵਹੀ ॥

bharameh jon asankh mar janameh aavahee |

He wanders around in countless incarnations; he dies, only to be born again.

ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸੈਲ ਤਰਵਰ ਗਣਤ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥

pasoo pankhee sail taravar ganat kachhoo na aave |

As beasts, birds, stones and trees - their number cannot be known.

ਬੀਜੁ ਬੋਵਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਵਏ ॥

beej bovas bhog bhogeh keea apanaa paave |

As are the seeds he plants, so are the pleasures he enjoys; he receives the consequences of his own actions.

ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਾਰੰਤ ਜੂਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਹੀ ॥

ratan janam haarant jooai prabhoo aap na bhaavahee |

He loses the jewel of this human life in the gamble, and God is not pleased with him at all.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਏ ਖਿਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਟਿਕਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ॥੨॥

binavant naanak bharameh bhramaae khin ek ttikan na paavahee |2|

Prays Nanak, wandering in doubt, he does not find any rest, even for an instant. ||2||

ਜੋਬਨੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਤੀਤਿ ਜਰੁ ਮਲਿ ਬੈਠੀਆ ॥

joban geaa biteet jar mal baittheea |

Youth has passed, and old age has taken its place.

ਕਰ ਕੰਪਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਡੋਲ ਨੈਣ ਨ ਡੀਠਿਆ ॥

kar kanpeh sir ddol nain na ddeetthiaa |

The hands tremble, the head shakes, and the eyes do not see.

ਨਹ ਨੈਣ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਈਸੈ ਛੋਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਾਲਿਆ ॥

neh nain deesai bin bhajan eesai chhodd maaeaa chaaliaa |

The eyes do not see, without vibrating and meditating on the Lord; he must leave behind the attractions of Maya, and depart.

ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਛਾਨਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲਿਆ ॥

kahiaa na maaneh sir khaak chhaaneh jin sang man tan jaaliaa |

He burnt his mind and body for his relatives, but now, they do not listen to him, and they throw dust on his head.

ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਅਪਾਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਹ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਿਆ ॥

sreeraam rang apaar pooran neh nimakh man meh vootthiaa |

Love for the infinite, Perfect Lord does not abide in his mind, even for an instant.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਾਗਰ ਬਿਨਸ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਝੂਠਿਆ ॥੩॥

binavant naanak kott kaagar binas baar na jhootthiaa |3|

Prays Nanak, the fort of paper is false - it is destroyed in an instant. ||3||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

charan kamal saranaae naanak aaeaa |

Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of the Lord's lotus feet.

ਦੁਤਰੁ ਭੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

dutar bhai sansaar prabh aap taraaeaa |

God Himself has carried Him across the impassable, terrifying world-ocean.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਭਜੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਤਾਰਿਆ ॥

mil saadhasange bhaje sreedhar kar ang prabh jee taariaa |

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I vibrate and meditate on the Lord; God has made me His own, and saved me.

ਹਰਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਏ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥

har maan lee naam dee avar kachh na beechaariaa |

The Lord has approved of me, and blessed me with His Name; He did not take anything else into consideration.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਪਾਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

gun nidhaan apaar tthaakur man lorreedaa paaeaa |

I have found the infinite Lord and Master, the treasure of virtue, which my mind had yearned for.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੩॥

binavant naanak sadaa tripate har naam bhojan khaaeaa |4|2|3|

Prays Nanak, I am satisfied forever; I have eaten the food of the Lord's Name. ||4||2||3||

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਵਾਰ ਸਲੋਕਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

jaitasaree mahalaa 5 vaar salokaa naal |

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl, Vaar With Saloks:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

Salok:

ਆਦਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥

aad pooran madh pooran ant pooran paramesurah |

In the beginning, He was pervading; in the middle, He is pervading; in the end, He will be pervading. He is the Transcendent Lord.

ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਘਨਾਸਨ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰਹ ॥੧॥

simarant sant sarabatr ramanan naanak aghanaasan jagadeesurah |1|

The Saints remember in meditation the all-pervading Lord God. O Nanak, He is the Destroyer of sins, the Lord of the universe. ||1||

ਪੇਖਨ ਸੁਨਨ ਸੁਨਾਵਨੋ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਐ ਸਾਚੁ ॥

pekhan sunan sunaavano man meh drirreeai saach |

See, hear, speak and implant the True Lord within your mind.

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੁ ॥੨॥

poor rahio sarabatr mai naanak har rang raach |2|

He is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; O Nanak, be absorbed in the Lord's Love. ||2||
