CHHAPAI STANZA
ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਨੇਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਇਕ ਅਤਿ ਭਟ ॥
at prachandd balavandd nem naamaa ik at bhatt |
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਮ ਦੂਸਰੋ ਸੂਰ ਬੀਰਾਰਿ ਰਣੋਤਕਟ ॥
prem naam doosaro soor beeraar ranotakatt |
An extremely powerful and potent warrior is named Niyam (principle) the second warrior is Prem (love),
ਸੰਜਮ ਏਕ ਬਲਿਸਟਿ ਧੀਰ ਨਾਮਾ ਚਤੁਰਥ ਗਨਿ ॥
sanjam ek balisatt dheer naamaa chaturath gan |
Third one is Snjam (restraint) and the fourth one is Dhairya (patience)
ਪ੍ਰਾਣਯਾਮ ਪੰਚਵੋ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਮਾ ਖਸਟਮ ਭਨਿ ॥
praanayaam panchavo dhiaan naamaa khasattam bhan |
And the sixth one is Panayama (regulation of breath) and the sixth one is called Dhyan (meditation)
ਜੋਧਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨਖੰਡ ਸਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥
jodhaa apaar anakhandd sat at prataap tih maaneeai |
This great warriors is considered extremely truthful and gloruiou,
ਸੁਰ ਅਸੁਰ ਨਾਗ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਵਨ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥੨੫੯॥
sur asur naag gandhrab dharam naam javan ko jaaneeai |259|
He is also known by the name Dharma (duty) by the gods, demons, Nagas, and Gandharvas.32.259.
ਸੁਭਾਚਾਰ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਬਲ ਦੂਸਰ ਅਨੁਮਾਨੋ ॥
subhaachaar jih naam sabal doosar anumaano |
Shubh Acharan (good character) is considered the second warrior
ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਤੀਸਰੋ ਸੁਭਟ ਬੁਧਿ ਚਤੁਰਥ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
bikram teesaro subhatt budh chaturath jeea jaano |
The third warrior is Vikram (Bravery) and the fourth one is mighty Buddh (intellect)
ਪੰਚਮ ਅਨੁਰਕਤਤਾ ਛਠਮ ਸਾਮਾਧ ਅਭੈ ਭਟ ॥
pancham anurakatataa chhattham saamaadh abhai bhatt |
The fifth one is Anuraktata (attachment) and the sixth warrior is Samadhi (contemplaton)
ਉਦਮ ਅਰੁ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਅਮਿਟ ਅਨਜੀਤ ਅਨਾਕਟ ॥
audam ar upakaar amitt anajeet anaakatt |
Uddam (effort), Upakaar (benevolence) etc. are also unconquerable, invincible and ineffaceable
ਜਿਹ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਤਜਿ ਆਸਨਨਿ ਬਿਮਨ ਚਿਤ ਭਾਜਤ ਤਵਨ ॥
jih nirakh satru taj aasanan biman chit bhaajat tavan |
Seeing them, the enemies forsake their seat and run away, while deviating from their position
ਬਲਿ ਟਾਰਿ ਹਾਰਿ ਆਹਵ ਹਠੀ ਅਠਟ ਠਾਟ ਭੁਲਤ ਗਵਨ ॥੨੬੦॥
bal ttaar haar aahav hatthee atthatt tthaatt bhulat gavan |260|
The glory of these mighty warrior is spread all over the earth.33.260.

TOMAR STANZA
ਸੁ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ਭਟ ਏਕ ॥
su bichaar hai bhatt ek |
ਗੁਨ ਬੀਚ ਜਾਸੁ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
gun beech jaas anek |
There is a warrior named Suvichar (good thought), who has many qualities
ਸੰਜੋਗ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਅਉਰ ॥
sanjog hai ik aaur |
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਪਤਿ ਗਉਰ ॥੨੬੧॥
jin jeetiaa pat gaur |261|
There is another warriors named Sanjog (coherence), who had even conquered Shiva.34.261.
ਇਕ ਹੋਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ॥
eik hom naam su beer |
ਅਰਿ ਕੀਨ ਜਾਸੁ ਅਧੀਰ ॥
ar keen jaas adheer |
There is one warrior named Hom (sacrifice), who has made the enemies impatient
ਪੂਜਾ ਸੁ ਅਉਰ ਬਖਾਨ ॥
poojaa su aaur bakhaan |
ਜਿਹ ਸੋ ਨ ਪਉਰਖੁ ਆਨਿ ॥੨੬੨॥
jih so na paurakh aan |262|
Another one is Pooja (worship), who is unequalled in courage by anyone.35.262.
ਅਨੁਰਕਤਤਾ ਇਕ ਅਉਰ ॥
anurakatataa ik aaur |
ਸਭ ਸੁਭਟ ਕੋ ਸਿਰ ਮਉਰ ॥
sabh subhatt ko sir maur |
The chief of all the warriors is Anuraktita
ਬੇਰਕਤਤਾ ਇਕ ਆਨ ॥
berakatataa ik aan |
ਜਿਹ ਸੋ ਨ ਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ॥੨੬੩॥
jih so na aan pradhaan |263|
In the same way, there is none like Virakt (unattached).36.263.
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਅਉਰ ਸੁਬਾਹ ॥
satasang aaur subaah |
ਜਿਹ ਦੇਖ ਜੁਧ ਉਛਾਹ ॥
jih dekh judh uchhaah |
Seeing Satsang (good company) and Bal (power), the enthusiasm for fighting is increased and
ਭਟ ਨੇਹ ਨਾਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
bhatt neh naam apaar |
ਬਲ ਜਉਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਕਰਾਰ ॥੨੬੪॥
bal jaun ko bikaraar |264|
In the same way, the warrior named Saneh (love) is terribly powerful.37.264.
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ॥
eik preet ar har bhagat |
ਜਿਹ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਮਗ ਜਗਤਿ ॥
jih jot jagamag jagat |
There are also Har-Bhakti (devotion with the Lord) and Preet (love) with whose light, the whole world is enlightened
ਭਟ ਦਤ ਮਤ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
bhatt dat mat mahaan |
ਸਬ ਠਉਰ ਮੈ ਪਰਧਾਨ ॥੨੬੫॥
sab tthaur mai paradhaan |265|
The path of Yoga of Dutt is also superb and is considered superior at all the places.38.265.
ਇਕ ਅਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਅਉਰ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧ ॥
eik akrudh aaur prabodh |
ਰਣ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ॥
ran dekh kai jih krodh |
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੈਨ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
eih bhaat sain banaae |
ਦੁਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਨਿਸਾਨ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੨੬੬॥
duhu dis nisaan bajaae |266|
Seeing the war, Krodh (anger) and Prabodh (knowledge), in their fury, souding their trumpets, marched for attack after decorating their forces.39.266.
ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੪ ਦੁਪਦੇ ॥

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl, Fourth House, Dho-Padhay:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੵਿ ॥
ab mai sukh paaeo gur aagay |
Now, I have found peace, bowing before the Guru.
ਤਜੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਚਿੰਤ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਹੰ ਛੋਡਿਓ ਹੈ ਤਿਆਗੵਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tajee siaanap chint visaaree ahan chhoddio hai tiaagay |1| rahaau |
I have abandoned cleverness, quieted my anxiety, and renounced my egotism. ||1||Pause||
ਜਉ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਉ ਸਗਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੋਹੀਅਉ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਗਿ ॥
jau dekhau tau sagal mohi moheeo tau saran pario gur bhaag |
When I looked, I saw that everyone was enticed by emotional attachment; then, I hurried to the Guru's Sanctuary.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਟਹਲ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਜਮਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮੋਰੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੧॥
kar kirapaa ttehal har laaeo tau jam chhoddee moree laag |1|
In His Grace, the Guru engaged me in the Lord's service, and then, the Messenger of Death gave up pursuing me. ||1||
ਤਰਿਓ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੋ ਜਉ ਸੰਤ ਭੇਟੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ॥
tario saagar paavak ko jau sant bhette vadd bhaag |
I swam across the ocean of fire, when I met the Saints, through great good fortune.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੨॥੧॥੫॥
jan naanak sarab sukh paae moro har charanee chit laag |2|1|5|
O servant Nanak, I have found total peace; my consciousness is attached to the Lord's feet. ||2||1||5||
ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਾ ॥
man meh satigur dhiaan dharaa |
Within my mind, I cherish and meditate on the True Guru.
ਦ੍ਰਿੜੑਿਓ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
drirraio giaan mantru har naamaa prabh jeeo meaa karaa |1| rahaau |
He has implanted within me spiritual wisdom and the Mantra of the Lord's Name; Dear God has shown mercy to me. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਲ ਜਾਲ ਅਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਜਮਹਿ ਡਰਾ ॥
kaal jaal ar mahaa janjaalaa chhuttake jameh ddaraa |
Death's noose and its mighty entanglements have vanished, along with the fear of death.
ਆਇਓ ਦੁਖ ਹਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਕਰੁਣਾਪਤਿ ਗਹਿਓ ਚਰਣ ਆਸਰਾ ॥੧॥
aaeo dukh haran saran karunaapat gahio charan aasaraa |1|
I have come to the Sanctuary of the Merciful Lord, the Destroyer of pain; I am holding tight to the Support of His feet. ||1||
ਨਾਵ ਰੂਪ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾ ॥
naav roop bheo saadhasang bhav nidh paar paraa |
The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, has assumed the form of a boat, to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਓ ਗਤੁ ਥੀਓ ਭਰਮਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੬॥
apiau peeo gat theeo bharamaa kahu naanak ajar jaraa |2|2|6|
I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, and my doubts are shattered; says Nanak, I can bear the unbearable. ||2||2||6||
ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jaa kau bhe govind sahaaee |
One who has the Lord of the Universe as his help and support
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਵਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sookh sehaj aanand sagal siau vaa kau biaadh na kaaee |1| rahaau |
is blessed with all peace, poise and bliss; no afflictions cling to him. ||1||Pause||
ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਲੇਪਾ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਉਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
deeseh sabh sang raheh alepaa neh viaapai un maaee |
He appears to keep company with everyone, but he remains detached, and Maya does not cling to him.
ਏਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਤ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
ekai rang tat ke bete satigur te budh paaee |1|
He is absorbed in love of the One Lord; he understands the essence of reality, and he is blessed with wisdom by the True Guru. ||1||
ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
deaa meaa kirapaa tthaakur kee seee sant subhaaee |
Those whom the Lord and Master blesses with His kindness, compassion and mercy are the sublime and sanctified Saints.
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੩॥੭॥
tin kai sang naanak nisatareeai jin ras ras har gun gaaee |2|3|7|
Associating with them, Nanak is saved; with love and exuberant joy, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||3||7||

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ॥
gobind jeevan praan dhan roop |
The Lord of the Universe is my existence, my breath of life, wealth and beauty.
ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
agiaan moh magan mahaa praanee andhiaare meh deep |1| rahaau |
The ignorant are totally intoxicated with emotional attachment; in this darkness, the Lord is the only lamp. ||1||Pause||
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਨੂਪ ॥
safal darasan tumaraa prabh preetam charan kamal aanoop |
Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Beloved God; Your lotus feet are incomparably beautiful!
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਕਰਉ ਤਿਹ ਬੰਦਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਚਰ੍ਹਾਵਉ ਧੂਪ ॥੧॥
anik baar krau tih bandan maneh charhaavau dhoop |1|
So many times, I bow in reverence to Him, offering my mind as incense to Him. ||1||
ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤੁਮੑਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੑੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਹੀ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ਲੂਕ ॥
haar pario tumarai prabh duaarai drirrau kar gahee tumaaree look |
Exhausted, I have fallen at Your Door, O God; I am holding tight to Your Support.
ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੇ ਕੂਪ ॥੨॥੪॥੮॥
kaadt lehu naanak apune kau sansaar paavak ke koop |2|4|8|
Please, lift Your humble servant Nanak up, out of the pit of fire of the world. ||2||4||8||

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl:
ਕੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
koee jan har siau devai jor |
If only someone would unite me with the Lord!
ਚਰਨ ਗਹਉ ਬਕਉ ਸੁਭ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਕੋਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan ghau bkau subh rasanaa deejeh praan akor |1| rahaau |
I hold tight to His feet, and utter sweet words with my tongue; I make my breath of life an offering to Him. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਤ ਕਿਆਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਚੈ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੰਜੋਰਿ ॥
man tan niramal karat kiaaro har sinchai sudhaa sanjor |
I make my mind and body into pure little gardens, and irrigate them with the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਇਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੋਰਿ ॥੧॥
eaa ras meh magan hot kirapaa te mahaa bikhiaa te tor |1|
I am drenched with this sublime essence by His Grace, and the powerful hold of Maya's corruption has been broken. ||1||
ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਓਰਿ ॥
aaeo saran deen dukh bhanjan chitvau tumaree or |
I have come to Your Sanctuary, O Destroyer of the suffering of the innocent; I keep my consciousness focused on You.
ਅਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੋਰਿ ॥੨॥੫॥੯॥
abhai pad daan simaran suaamee ko prabh naanak bandhan chhor |2|5|9|
Bless me with the gifts of the state of fearlessness, and meditative remembrance, Lord and Master; O Nanak, God is the Breaker of bonds. ||2||5||9||
