ਗਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਗਦਾ ਗੁਰਜ ਗਾਜੀ ਸਬ ਹਠਿ ਰਣਿ ਆਨਿ ਗਜੇ ॥
geh geh gadaa guraj gaajee sab hatth ran aan gaje |
The thundering horns were blown in all the four directions and the warriors holding their maces stood firmly and persistently in the battlefield
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਬਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਘ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan saihathee baan prayogh chalaae |
The arrows, bows, swords, lances etc. were used
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਮਹਾ ਮੇਘ ਬੂੰਦਨ ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਬ੍ਰਯੂਹਿ ਬਰਸਾਏ ॥
jaanuk mahaa megh boondan jayon bisikh brayoohi barasaae |
The clusters of arrows were discharged in showers like the rain-drops from the clouds
ਚਟਪਟ ਚਰਮ ਬਰਮ ਸਬ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਟਪਟ ਪਾਰ ਪਰਾਨੇ ॥
chattapatt charam baram sab bedhe sattapatt paar paraane |
The arrows piercing the armours and leather penetrated directly to the other side
ਖਟਪਟ ਸਰਬ ਭੂਮਿ ਕੇ ਬੇਧੇ ਨਾਗਨ ਲੋਕ ਸਿਧਾਨੇ ॥
khattapatt sarab bhoom ke bedhe naagan lok sidhaane |
And even went to the nether-world after piercing the earth
ਝਮਕਤ ਖੜਗ ਕਾਢਿ ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਸੁਭਟ ਚਲਾਵਤ ॥
jhamakat kharrag kaadt naanaa bidh saihathee subhatt chalaavat |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਬਾਟ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੀ ਨੀਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਿਖਾਵਤ ॥੧੦੯॥
jaanuk pragatt baatt sur pur kee neeke hirade dikhaavat |109|
The warriors struck the gleaming daggers and lances and these weapons looked like piercing the hearts and showing them the path to heaven.35.109.

Innumerable Sannyasis were pierced with the arrows and they all became the residents of heaven, forsaking the attachment of wealth and property
ਚਰਮ ਬਰਮ ਰਥ ਧੁਜਾ ਪਤਾਕਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥
charam baram rath dhujaa pataakaa bahu bidh kaatt giraae |
The armours, banners, chariots and flags etc. were cut down and caused to fall
ਸੋਭਤ ਭਏ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪੁਰ ਜਮ ਪੁਰ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਨਿਰਖ ਲਜਾਏ ॥
sobhat bhe indr pur jam pur sur pur nirakh lajaae |
They all extended the glory of heaven and the abodes of Indra and Yama
ਭੂਖਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਰੰਗ ਰੰਗਨ ਕੇ ਛੁਟਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੇ ॥
bhookhan basatr rang rangan ke chhutt chhutt bhoom gire |
Their multi-coloured garments fell on the ground
ਜਨੁਕ ਅਸੋਕ ਬਾਗ ਦਿਵਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਸੰਤਿ ਝਰੇ ॥
januk asok baag divapat ke puhap basant jhare |
They appeared like flowers dropping down in spring in Ashok Vatika
ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਗਜਨ ਕੁੰਭ ਸਥਲ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਬਿਥੁਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
katt katt gire gajan kunbh sathal mukataa bithur pare |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੁੰਡ ਮੁਖ ਛੁਟੈ ਜਲ ਕਨ ਸੁਭਗ ਝਰੇ ॥੧੧੦॥
jaanuk amrit kundd mukh chhuttai jal kan subhag jhare |110|
The trunks of the elephants and the pearl-necklaces were lying scattered on the earth and appeared like the scattered water drops from the pool of ambrosia.36.110.

The warriors fell from both the directions and taking out the swords they marched forward shouting “kill, kill”
ਪਾਨ ਰੋਕਿ ਸਰੋਖ ਰਾਵਤ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਜੁਧ ਫਿਰੇ ॥
paan rok sarokh raavat krudh judh fire |
ਗਾਹਿ ਗਾਹਿ ਗਜੀ ਰਥੀ ਰਣਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੇ ॥
gaeh gaeh gajee rathee ran ant bhoom gire |
Holding their weapons in their hands, the angry warriors wandered and killing the elephant-drivers and the charioteers, they ultimately fell down on the earth
ਤਾਨਿ ਤਾਨਿ ਸੰਧਾਨ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਕਾਨ ਸੁਬਾਹਿ ॥
taan taan sandhaan baan pramaan kaan subaeh |
ਬਾਹਿ ਬਾਹਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਸੁਬਾਹਨ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ॥
baeh baeh fire subaahan chhatr dharam nibaeh |
Pulling the bows upto their ears, they discharged the arrows and in this way, striking the blows with their weapons, they fulfilled the obligation of Kashatriyas
ਬੇਧਿ ਬੇਧਿ ਸੁ ਬਾਨ ਅੰਗ ਜੁਆਨ ਜੁਝੇ ਐਸ ॥
bedh bedh su baan ang juaan jujhe ais |
ਭੂਰਿ ਭਾਰਥ ਕੇ ਸਮੇ ਸਰ ਸੇਜ ਭੀਖਮ ਜੈਸ ॥੧੧੧॥
bhoor bhaarath ke same sar sej bheekham jais |111|
Being pierced by the arrows, the warriors fell like the falling of Bhishma on the bed of arrows in the time of Arjuna.37.111.

ਕੇਤਿਕ ਬਾਧਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਮੋ ਬੋਰੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਅਗਨਿ ਮੋ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
ketik baadh baar mo bore kite agan mo saare |
Many were tied and got drowned and many were burnt in fire
ਕੇਤਨ ਏਕ ਹਾਥ ਕਟਿ ਡਾਰੇ ਕੇਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਹਾਥ ॥
ketan ek haath katt ddaare ketin ke dvai haath |
There were many whose one hand was cut and there were many others whose two hand were cut
ਤਿਲ ਤਿਲ ਪਾਇ ਰਥੀ ਕਟਿ ਡਾਰੇ ਕਟੇ ਕਿਤਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਥ ॥
til til paae rathee katt ddaare katte kitan ke maath |
Many charioteers were torn into pieces and the heads of many were chopped
ਛਤ੍ਰ ਚਮ੍ਰ ਰਥ ਬਾਜ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਕੇ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਰਣਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
chhatr chamr rath baaj kitane ke kaatt kaatt ran ddaare |
The canopies, fly-whisks, chariots, horses etc. of many were chopped in the battlefield
ਕੇਤਨ ਮੁਕਟ ਲਕੁਟ ਲੈ ਤੋਰੇ ਕੇਤਨ ਜੂਟ ਉਪਾਰੇ ॥
ketan mukatt lakutt lai tore ketan joott upaare |
The crowns of many were broken with staff and the knots of the matted locks of many were uprooted
ਭਕਿ ਭਕਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਭਿੰਭਰ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਪਰ ਘਾਇ ਅੰਗ ਭਿਭਰਾਰੇ ॥
bhak bhak gire bhinbhar basudhaa par ghaae ang bhibharaare |
Many were wounded and fell on the earth and from their limbs,
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਅੰਤ ਬਸੰਤ ਸਮੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਚਾਚਰ ਖੇਲ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੨॥
jaanuk ant basant samai mil chaachar khel sidhaare |112|
The blood oozed out as if all were playing Holi in spring season.38.112.

aan aan firee chahoon dis naar naagar bhes |
The heavenly damsels gathered together in the battlefield from all the four directions after dressing their hair
ਚਿਬਕ ਚਾਰੁ ਸੁ ਧਾਰ ਬੇਸਰ ਡਾਰਿ ਕਾਜਰ ਨੈਨ ॥
chibak chaar su dhaar besar ddaar kaajar nain |
They had pretty cheeks, there was antimony in their eyes and rings in their noses
ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਚਲੀ ਚਿਤ ਲੇਤ ਚੋਰ ਸੁ ਮੈਨ ॥
jeev jantan kaa chalee chit let chor su main |
They were stealing the hearts of all like the thieves,
ਦੇਖ ਰੀ ਸੁਕੁਮਾਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਆਜੁ ਬਰ ਹੈ ਬੀਰ ॥
dekh ree sukumaar sundar aaj bar hai beer |
And were conversing with one another regarding the application of saffron to the limbs,
ਬੀਨ ਬੀਨ ਧਰੋ ਸਬੰਗਨ ਸੁਧ ਕੇਸਰਿ ਚੀਰ ॥
been been dharo sabangan sudh kesar cheer |
Because the handsome princess was to be wedded on that day
ਚੀਨ ਚੀਨ ਬਰਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਬਾਹ ਸੁ ਮਧ ਜੁਧ ਉਛਾਹ ॥
cheen cheen bar hai subaah su madh judh uchhaah |
ਤੇਗ ਤੀਰਨ ਬਾਨ ਬਰਛਨ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਹੈ ਬਯਾਹ ॥੧੧੩॥
teg teeran baan barachhan jeet kar hai bayaah |113|
The enthusiastic heavenly damsels were picking up those warriors in the war-arena who were being conquered with swords, arrows, bows, lances etc. and were marrying those fine fighters.39.113.

ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਬਢਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਜੂ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰੌ ॥
granth badtan ke kaaj sunahu joo chit mai adhik ddarau |
To what extent should I describe it, because I fear the book will become voluminous,
ਤਉ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਥਾ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਛੇਪ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
tau sudhaar bichaar kathaa keh keh sanchhep bakhaano |
Therefore I am improving thoughtfully the story and describing it in brief
ਜੈਸੇ ਤਵ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਕੇ ਬਲ ਤੇ ਜਥਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਅਨੁਮਾਨੋ ॥
jaise tav prataap ke bal te jathaa sakat anumaano |
I hope that with the strength of your wisdom, you will assess it accordingly
ਜਬ ਪਾਰਸ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਨ ਮੰਡ੍ਰਯੋ ਨਾਨਾ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
jab paaras ih bidh ran manddrayo naanaa sasatr chalaae |
When Parasnath waged war in this way, using various types of weapons, then those who were killed were killed,
ਹਤੇ ਸੁ ਹਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲੈ ਭਾਜੇ ਚਹੁੰ ਦਿਸ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਏ ॥
hate su hate jeea lai bhaaje chahun dis ge paraae |
But some of them saved their lives running away in al the four directions
ਜੇ ਹਠ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨਿ ਪਗ ਲਾਗੇ ਤੇ ਸਬ ਲਏ ਬਚਾਈ ॥
je hatth tiaag aan pag laage te sab le bachaaee |
Those who abandoned their persistence and clung to the feet of the king, they were saved
ਭੂਖਨ ਬਸਨ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੀਨੇ ਦੈ ਦੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧੧੪॥
bhookhan basan bahut bidh deene dai dai bahut baddaaee |114|
They were given ornaments, garments etc., and were greatly appreciated in many ways.40.114.

ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

That union with the Lord is acceptable, which is united in intuitive poise.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
naa tis maran na aavan jaan |
Thereafter, one does not die, and does not come and go in reincarnation.
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
tthaakur meh daas daas meh soe |
The Lord's slave is in the Lord, and the Lord is in His slave.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
jeh dekhaa teh avar na koe |1|
Wherever I look, I see none other than the Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
guramukh bhagat sehaj ghar paaeeai |
The Gurmukhs worship the Lord, and find His celestial home.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮਰਿ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin gur bhette mar aaeeai jaaeeai |1| rahaau |
Without meeting the Guru, they die, and come and go in reincarnation. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਉ ਜਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈ ॥
so gur krau ji saach drirraavai |
So make Him your Guru, who implants the Truth within you,
ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਾਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
akath kathaavai sabad milaavai |
who leads you to speak the Unspoken Speech, and who merges you in the Word of the Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਅਵਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥
har ke log avar nahee kaaraa |
God's people have no other work to do;
ਸਾਚਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
saachau tthaakur saach piaaraa |2|
they love the True Lord and Master, and they love the Truth. ||2||
ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ॥
tan meh manooaa man meh saachaa |
The mind is in the body, and the True Lord is in the mind.
ਸੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਰਾਚਾ ॥
so saachaa mil saache raachaa |
Merging into the True Lord, one is absorbed into Truth.
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
sevak prabh kai laagai paae |
God's servant bows at His feet.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
satigur pooraa milai milaae |3|
Meeting the True Guru, one meets with the Lord. ||3||
ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖੈ ॥
aap dikhaavai aape dekhai |
He Himself watches over us, and He Himself makes us see.
ਹਠਿ ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਭੇਖੈ ॥
hatth na pateejai naa bahu bhekhai |
He is not pleased by stubborn-mindedness, nor by various religious robes.
ਘੜਿ ਭਾਡੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gharr bhaadde jin amrit paaeaa |
He fashioned the body-vessels, and infused the Ambrosial Nectar into them;
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਇਆ ॥੪॥
prem bhagat prabh man pateeaeaa |4|
God's Mind is pleased only by loving devotional worship. ||4||
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭੂਲਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
parr parr bhooleh chottaa khaeh |
Reading and studying, one becomes confused, and suffers punishment.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
bahut siaanap aaveh jaeh |
By great cleverness, one is consigned to coming and going in reincarnation.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਭਉ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
naam japai bhau bhojan khaae |
One who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and eats the food of the Fear of God
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥
guramukh sevak rahe samaae |5|
becomes Gurmukh, the Lord's servant, and remains absorbed in the Lord. ||5||
ਪੂਜਿ ਸਿਲਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਨ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
pooj silaa teerath ban vaasaa |
He worships stones, dwells at sacred shrines of pilgrimage and in the jungles,
ਭਰਮਤ ਡੋਲਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
bharamat ddolat bhe udaasaa |
wanders, roams around and becomes a renunciate.
ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
man mailai soochaa kiau hoe |
But his mind is still filthy - how can he become pure?
ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੬॥
saach milai paavai pat soe |6|
One who meets the True Lord obtains honor. ||6||
ਆਚਾਰਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
aachaaraa veechaar sareer |
One who embodies good conduct and contemplative meditation,
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਿ ॥
aad jugaad sehaj man dheer |
his mind abides in intuitive poise and contentment, since the beginning of time, and throughout the ages.
ਪਲ ਪੰਕਜ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
pal pankaj meh kott udhaare |
In the twinkling of an eye, he saves millions.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੭॥
kar kirapaa gur mel piaare |7|
Have mercy on me, O my Beloved, and let me meet the Guru. ||7||
ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
kis aagai prabh tudh saalaahee |
Unto whom, O God, should I praise You?
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਮੈ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
tudh bin doojaa mai ko naahee |
Without You, there is no other at all.
ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
jiau tudh bhaavai tiau raakh rajaae |
As it pleases You, keep me under Your Will.

Whoever is born into the world, is entangled in it; human birth is obtained only by good destiny.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਓਟ ਸਾਧ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
taa kee hai ott saadh raakhahu de kar haath kar kirapaa melahu har raaeaa |1|
I look to Your support, O Holy Saint; give me Your hand, and protect me. By Your Grace, let me meet the Lord, my King. ||1||
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਥਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
anik janam bhram thit nahee paaee |
I wandered through countless incarnations, but I did not find stability anywhere.
ਕਰਉ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਉ ਚਰਨ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਜੀ ਬਤਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
krau sevaa gur laagau charan govind jee kaa maarag dehu jee bataaee |1| rahaau |
I serve the Guru, and I fall at His feet, praying, "O Dear Lord of the Universe, please, show me the way." ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰਉ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਬਚਿਤਿ ਧਰਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਵਿਹਾਵੈ ॥
anik upaav krau maaeaa kau bachit dhrau meree meree karat sad hee vihaavai |
I have tried so many things to acquire the wealth of Maya, and to cherish it in my mind; I have passed my life constantly crying out, "Mine, mine!"
ਕੋਈ ਐਸੋ ਰੇ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਚਿੰਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
koee aiso re bhettai sant meree laahai sagal chint tthaakur siau meraa rang laavai |2|
Is there any such Saint, who would meet with me, take away my anxiety, and lead me to enshrine love for my Lord and Master. ||2||
ਪੜੇ ਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬੇਦ ਨਹ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨ ਭੇਦ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਧੀਰਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਪੰਚਾ ॥
parre re sagal bed neh chookai man bhed ik khin na dheereh mere ghar ke panchaa |
I have read all the Vedas, and yet the sense of separation in my mind still has not been removed; the five thieves of my house are not quieted, even for an instant.
ਕੋਈ ਐਸੋ ਰੇ ਭਗਤੁ ਜੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਰਹਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿੰਚਾ ॥੩॥
koee aiso re bhagat ju maaeaa te rehat ik amrit naam merai ridai sinchaa |3|
Is there any devotee, who is unattached to Maya, who may irrigate my mind with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the One Lord? ||3||
ਜੇਤੇ ਰੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਏ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਏ ਘਰ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jete re teerath naae ahanbudh mail laae ghar ko tthaakur ik til na maanai |
In spite of the many places of pilgrimage for people to bathe in, their minds are still stained by their stubborn ego; the Lord Master is not pleased by this at all.
ਕਦਿ ਪਾਵਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੈ ॥੪॥
kad paavau saadhasang har har sadaa aanand giaan anjan meraa man isanaanai |4|
When will I find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy? There, I shall be always in the ecstasy of the Lord, Har, Har, and my mind shall take its cleansing bath in the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||4||
ਸਗਲ ਅਸ੍ਰਮ ਕੀਨੇ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਨੇ ਬਿਬੇਕਹੀਨ ਦੇਹੀ ਧੋਏ ॥
sagal asram keene manooaa neh pateene bibekaheen dehee dhoe |
I have followed the four stages of life, but my mind is not satisfied; I wash my body, but it is totally lacking in understanding.
ਕੋਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਰੇ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਏ ॥੫॥
koee paaeeai re purakh bidhaataa paarabraham kai rang raataa mere man kee duramat mal khoe |5|
If only I could meet some devotee of the Supreme Lord God, imbued with the Lord's Love, who could eradicate the filthy evil-mindedness from my mind. ||5||
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਹੇਤੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਪੜੈ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
karam dharam jugataa nimakh na het karataa garab garab parrai kahee na lekhai |
One who is attached to religious rituals, does not love the Lord, even for an instant; he is filled with pride, and he is of no account.
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋਊ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਹੁ ਪੇਖੈ ॥੬॥
jis bhetteeai safal moorat karai sadaa keerat gur parasaad koaoo netrahu pekhai |6|
One who meets with the rewarding personality of the Guru, continually sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. By Guru's Grace, such a rare one beholds the Lord with his eyes. ||6||
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਜੋ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਗੁਲ ਜਿਉ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੇ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
manahatth jo kamaavai til na lekhai paavai bagul jiau dhiaan laavai maaeaa re dhaaree |
One who acts through stubbornness is of no account at all; like a crane, he pretends to meditate, but he is still stuck in Maya.
ਕੋਈ ਐਸੋ ਰੇ ਸੁਖਹ ਦਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
koee aiso re sukhah daaee prabh kee kathaa sunaaee tis bhette gat hoe hamaaree |7|
Is there any such Giver of peace, who can recite to me the sermon of God? Meeting him, I would be emancipated. ||7||
ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਰਾਇ ਕਾਟੈ ਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
suprasan gopaal raae kaattai re bandhan maae gur kai sabad meraa man raataa |
When the Lord, my King, is totally pleased with me, He will break the bonds of Maya for me; my mind is imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥੮॥
sadaa sadaa aanand bhettio nirabhai gobind sukh naanak laadhe har charan paraataa |8|
I am in ecstasy, forever and ever, meeting the Fearless Lord, the Lord of the Universe. Falling at the Lord's Feet, Nanak has found peace. ||8||
ਸਫਲ ਸਫਲ ਭਈ ਸਫਲ ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ॥

My Yatra, my life pilgrimage, has become fruitful, fruitful, fruitful.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੩॥
aavan jaan rahe mile saadhaa |1| rahaau doojaa |1|3|
My comings and goings have ended, since I met the Holy Saint. ||1||Second Pause||1||3||
