ਪੂਰਣ ਮਤ ਕੋ ਕੀਨ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
pooran mat ko keen pasaaraa |
In this way there was the Dutt incarnation of Rudra and he spread his religion
ਅੰਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੋ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਨੀ ॥
ant jot so jot milaanee |
ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
jih bidh so paarabraham bhavaanee |1|
In the end, according to the Will of the Lord, his light (soul) merged in the Supreme Light of the Lord.1.
ਏਕ ਲਛ ਦਸ ਬਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਾ ॥
ek lachh das barakh pramaanaa |
ਪਾਛੇ ਚਲਾ ਜੋਗ ਕੋ ਬਾਨਾ ॥
paachhe chalaa jog ko baanaa |
After that, the Yoga-marga (path) continued its way for one lakh and ten years
ਗ੍ਰਯਾਰਵ ਬਰਖ ਬਿਤੀਤਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
grayaarav barakh biteetat bhayo |
ਪਾਰਸਨਾਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਭੂਅ ਵਯੋ ॥੨॥
paarasanaath purakh bhooa vayo |2|
With the passing away of the eleventh year, Parasnath was born on this earth.2.
ਰੋਹ ਦੇਸ ਸੁਭ ਦਿਨ ਭਲ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
roh des subh din bhal thaan |
ਪਰਸ ਨਾਥ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਗ੍ਰਯਾਨੁ ॥
paras naath bhayo sur grayaan |
On an auspicious day and at an auspicious place and country, he was born
ਅਮਿਤ ਤੇਜ ਅਸਿ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਹੋਊ ॥
amit tej as avar na hoaoo |
ਚਕ੍ਰਤ ਰਹੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤ ਦੋਊ ॥੩॥
chakrat rahe maat pit doaoo |3|
He was supremely learned and glorious there was none so illustrious like him and seeing him, his parents were wonder-struck.3.
ਦਸਊ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਤੇਜ ਅਤਿ ਬਢਾ ॥
dsaoo disan tej at badtaa |
ਦ੍ਵਾਦਸ ਭਾਨ ਏਕ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਚਢਾ ॥
dvaadas bhaan ek hvai chadtaa |
His glory spread in all the ten directions and it seemed that the twelve suns were shining in one
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਲੋਕ ਉਠੇ ਅਕੁਲਾਈ ॥
deh dis lok utthe akulaaee |
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤੀਰ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥
bhoopat teer pukaare jaaee |4|
The people in all the ten directions felt agitated and went to the king for their lamenation.4.
ਸੁਨੋ ਭੂਪ ਇਕ ਕਹੋਂ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥
suno bhoop ik kahon kahaanee |
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਉਪਜ︀ਯੋ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
ek purakh upajayo abhimaanee |
“O king! Listen, we tell you an episode
ਜਿਹ ਸਮ ਰੂਪ ਜਗਤ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
jih sam roop jagat nahee koee |
ਏਕੈ ਘੜਾ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੫॥
ekai gharraa bidhaataa soee |5|
A very proud person has been born and there is none so beautiful like him it seems that the Lord (Providence) Himself had created him.5.
ਕੈ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਜਛ ਕੋਈ ਅਹਾ ॥
kai gandhrab jachh koee ahaa |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਦੂਸਰ ਭਾਨੁ ਚੜ ਰਹਾ ॥
jaanuk doosar bhaan charr rahaa |
“Either he is a Yaksha or Gandharva it appears that a second sun has arisen
ਅਤਿ ਜੋਬਨ ਝਮਕਤ ਤਿਹ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
at joban jhamakat tih angaa |
ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਲਜਤ ਅਨੰਗਾ ॥੬॥
nirakhat jaa ke lajat anangaa |6|
His body is gleaming with youth and seeing him, even the god of love is feeling shy.”6.
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਾਜ ਬੁਲਾਵਾ ॥
bhoopat dekhan kaaj bulaavaa |
ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਸਾਥ ਚਲ ਆਵਾ ॥
pahile dayos saath chal aavaa |
The king called him in order to see him and he (Parasnath) came on the very first day with the messengers
ਹਰਖ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਜਟਧਾਰੀ ॥
harakh hridai dhar ke jattadhaaree |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਦੁਤੀ ਦਤ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
jaanuk dutee dat avataaree |7|
The king was pleased in his heart on seeing him wearing matted locks and it appeared to him that he was the second incarnation of Dutt.7.
ਨਿਰਖ ਰੂਪ ਕਾਪੇ ਜਟਧਾਰੀ ॥
nirakh roop kaape jattadhaaree |
ਯਹ ਕੋਊ ਭਯੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥
yeh koaoo bhayo purakh avataaree |
Seeing his figure the sages wearing matted locks trembled and thought he was some incarnation,
ਯਹ ਮਤ ਦੂਰ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਕੈ ਹੈ ॥
yeh mat door hamaaraa kai hai |
ਜਟਾਧਾਰ ਕੋਈ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਪੈ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
jattaadhaar koee rahai na pai hai |8|
who will finish their religion and no person with matted locks will survive.8.
ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਤਬ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
tej prabhaav nirakh tab raajaa |
ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਿ ਪੁਲਕਤ ਚਿਤ ਗਾਜਾ ॥
at prasan pulakat chit gaajaa |
The king, seeing the impact of his glory, was extremely pleased
ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹਾ ਲਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਸਮਾਈ ॥
jih jihaa lakhaa rahe bisamaaee |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਰੰਕ ਨਵੋ ਨਿਧ ਪਾਈ ॥੯॥
jaanuk rank navo nidh paaee |9|
Whosoever saw him, he was pleased like one pauper obtaining nine treasures.9.
ਮੋਹਨ ਜਾਲ ਸਭਨ ਸਿਰ ਡਾਰਾ ॥
mohan jaal sabhan sir ddaaraa |
ਚੇਟਕ ਬਾਨ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
chettak baan chakrit hvai maaraa |
He put his net of allurement on all and all were getting succumbed in wonder
ਜਹ ਤਹ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਕਲ ਨਰ ਗਿਰੇ ॥
jeh teh mohi sakal nar gire |
ਜਾਨ ਸੁਭਟ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ਰਣ ਭਿਰੇ ॥੧੦॥
jaan subhatt saamuhi ran bhire |10|
All the people getting fascinated fell down here and there like the warriors falling in battle.10.
ਨਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
nar naaree jih jih tih pekhaa |
ਤਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਮਦਨ ਰੂਪ ਅਵਿਰੇਖਾ ॥
tih tih madan roop avirekhaa |
The man or woman, who saw him, considered him s the god of love
ਸਾਧਨ ਸਰਬ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
saadhan sarab sidh kar jaanaa |
ਜੋਗਨ ਜੋਗ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੁਮਾਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
jogan jog roop anumaanaa |11|
The hermits considered him as an adept and the Yogis as a great Yogi.11.
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੂਪ ਰਨਵਾਸ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥
nirakh roop ranavaas lubhaanaa |
ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
de tih sutaa nripat man maanaa |
The group of queens was allured on seeing him and the king also decided to marry his daughter with him
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਭਯੋ ਜਬੈ ਜਾਮਾਤਾ ॥
nrip ko bhayo jabai jaamaataa |
ਮਹਾ ਧਨੁਖਧਰ ਬੀਰ ਬਿਖ︀ਯਾਤਾ ॥੧੨॥
mahaa dhanukhadhar beer bikhayaataa |12|
When he became the son-in-law of the king, then he became famous as a great archer.12.
ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਅਰੁ ਅਮਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੂ ॥
mahaa roop ar amit prataapoo |
ਜਾਨੁ ਜਪੈ ਹੈ ਆਪਨ ਜਾਪੂ ॥
jaan japai hai aapan jaapoo |
That extremely beautiful and infinitely glorious persons was absorbed within himself
ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਤਾ ਸੁਰਿ ਗ︀ਯਾਨਾ ॥
sasatr saasatr betaa sur gayaanaa |
ਜਾ ਸਮ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਗਤਿ ਨ ਆਨਾ ॥੧੩॥
jaa sam panddit jagat na aanaa |13|
He was expert in the knowledge of Shastras and weapons and there was no Pandit like him in the world.13.
ਥੋਰਿ ਬਹਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਸੇਖਾ ॥
thor bahikram budh bisekhaa |
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਧਰਾ ਬਿਤਨ ਯਹਿ ਭੇਖਾ ॥
jaanuk dharaa bitan yeh bhekhaa |
He was like a Yaksha in human garb, not being troubled by the outer afflictions
ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਰੂਪ ਤਵਨ ਕਾ ਲਹਾ ॥
jih jih roop tavan kaa lahaa |
ਸੋ ਸੋ ਚਮਕ ਚਕ੍ਰਿ ਹੁਐ ਰਹਾ ॥੧੪॥
so so chamak chakr huai rahaa |14|
Whosoever saw his beauty, he was wonder-struck and duped.14.
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮੇਰਾ ਲਾਗੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥
meraa laago raam siau het |
I have fallen in love with the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਕੇਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur meraa sadaa sahaaee jin dukh kaa kaattiaa ket |1| rahaau |
My True Guru is always my help and support; He has torn down the banner of pain. ||1||Pause||
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
haath dee raakhio apunaa kar birathaa sagal mittaaee |
Giving me His hand, He has protected me as His own, and removed all my troubles.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਕਾਲੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥
nindak ke mukh kaale keene jan kaa aap sahaaee |1|
He has blackened the faces of the slanderers, and He Himself has become the help and support of His humble servant. ||1||
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
saachaa saahib hoaa rakhavaalaa raakh lee kantth laae |
The True Lord and Master has become my Saviour; hugging me close in His embrace, He has saved me.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੭॥
nirbhau bhe sadaa sukh maane naanak har gun gaae |2|17|
Nanak has become fearless, and he enjoys eternal peace, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||17||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਉਖਧੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
aaukhadh tero naam deaal |
Your Name is the medicine, O Merciful Lord.
ਮੋਹਿ ਆਤੁਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mohi aatur teree gat nahee jaanee toon aap kareh pratipaal |1| rahaau |
I am so miserable, I do not know Your state; You Yourself cherish me, Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
dhaar anugrahu suaamee mere duteea bhaau nivaar |
Take pity on me, O my Lord and Master, and remove the love of duality from within me.
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਆਵਹ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
bandhan kaatt lehu apune kar kabahoo na aavah haar |1|
Break my bonds, and take me as Your own, so that I may never come to lose. ||1||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
teree saran peaa hau jeevaan toon samrath purakh miharavaan |
Seeking Your Sanctuary, I live, almighty and merciful Lord and Master.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਆਰਾਧੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੧੮॥
aatth pehar prabh kau aaraadhee naanak sad kurabaan |2|18|
Twenty-four hours a day, I worship God; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||18||

ਹਾ ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥

O God, please save me!
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham te kichhoo na hoe mere svaamee kar kirapaa apunaa naam dehu |1| rahaau |
By myself, I cannot do anything, O my Lord and Master; by Your Grace, please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਅਗਨਿ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
agan kuttanb saagar sansaar |
Family and worldly affairs are an ocean of fire.
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
bharam moh agiaan andhaar |1|
Through doubt, emotional attachment and ignorance, we are enveloped in darkness. ||1||
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ॥
aooch neech sookh dookh |
High and low, pleasure and pain.
ਧ੍ਰਾਪਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ॥੨॥
dhraapas naahee trisanaa bhookh |2|
Hunger and thirst are not satisfied. ||2||
ਮਨਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਰਚਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ॥
man baasanaa rach bikhai biaadh |
The mind is engrossed in passion, and the disease of corruption.
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਹਾ ਅਸਾਧ ॥੩॥
panch doot sang mahaa asaadh |3|
The five thieves, the companions, are totally incorrigible. ||3||
ਜੀਅ ਜਹਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
jeea jahaan praan dhan teraa |
The beings and souls and wealth of the world are all Yours.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੯॥
naanak jaan sadaa har neraa |4|1|19|
O Nanak, know that the Lord is always near at hand. ||4||1||19||

ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ॥
deen darad nivaar tthaakur raakhai jan kee aap |
The Lord and Master destroys the pain of the poor; He preserves and protects the honor of His servants.
ਤਰਣ ਤਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥੧॥
taran taaran har nidh dookh na sakai biaap |1|
The Lord is the ship to carry us across; He is the treasure of virtue - pain cannot touch Him. ||1||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥
saadhoo sang bhajahu gupaal |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate, vibrate upon the Lord of the world.
ਆਨ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਇਹ ਜਤਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan sanjam kichh na soojhai ih jatan kaatt kal kaal | rahaau |
I cannot think of any other way; make this effort, and make it in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||Pause||
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
aad ant deaal pooran tis binaa nahee koe |
In the beginning, and in the end, there is none other than the perfect, merciful Lord.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
janam maran nivaar har jap simar suaamee soe |2|
The cycle of birth and death is ended, chanting the Lord's Name, and remembering the Lord Master in meditation. ||2||
ਬੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਥੈ ਸਾਸਤ ਭਗਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
bed sinmrit kathai saasat bhagat kareh beechaar |
The Vedas, the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Lord's devotees contemplate Him;
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
mukat paaeeai saadhasangat binas jaae andhaar |3|
liberation is attained in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||3||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਏਕ ॥
charan kamal adhaar jan kaa raas poonjee ek |
The lotus feet of the Lord are the support of His humble servants. They are his only capital and investment.
ਤਾਣੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਟੇਕ ॥੪॥੨॥੨੦॥
taan maan deebaan saachaa naanak kee prabh ttek |4|2|20|
The True Lord is Nanak's strength, honor and support; He alone is his protection. ||4||2||20||
