ਚੜਿ ਮੇਰ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

ਕੀਅ ਘੋਰ ਤਪਸਾ ਉਗ੍ਰ ॥
keea ghor tapasaa ugr |
ਤਬ ਰੀਝਏ ਕਛੁ ਸੁਗ੍ਰ ॥੪੭੪॥

Then ascending the Sumeru mountain the sage performed great austerities for many years and felt pleased as the essence-finder.474.
ਜਗ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਿਵਹਾਰ ॥
jag dekh ke bivahaar |
ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਨ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
mun raaj keen bichaar |
ਇਨ ਕਉਨ ਸੋ ਉਪਜਾਇ ॥
ein kaun so upajaae |
ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪੭੫॥
fir let aap milaae |475|
Seeing the practice of the world, the sage thought as to who is He, who creates the world and then merges it within Himself?475.
ਤਿਹ ਚੀਨੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
tih cheeneeai kar giaan |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਣ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ॥
tab hoe pooran dhayaan |
When He is recognized through the knowledge, then the adoration will be complete
ਤਿਹ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਤ ਜੋਗ ॥
tih jaaneeai jat jog |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਦੇਹ ਅਰੋਗ ॥੪੭੬॥
tab hoe deh arog |476|
If He is comprehended through the medium off Yoga, only then the body (and the mind) will be completely healthy.476.
ਤਬ ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਛਾਨ ॥
tab ek purakh pachhaan |
ਜਗ ਨਾਸ ਜਾਹਿਨ ਜਾਨ ॥
jag naas jaahin jaan |
Then the supreme essence will be known (when it will be realized) that He is also the destroyer of the world
ਸਬ ਜਗਤ ਕੋ ਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ॥
sab jagat ko pat dekh |
ਅਨਭਉ ਅਨੰਤ ਅਭੇਖ ॥੪੭੭॥
anbhau anant abhekh |477|
That master of the world is real and Lord is supremely absorbed and He is also beyond all forms.477.
ਬਿਨ ਏਕ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਸਾਤਿ ॥
bin ek naahin saat |
ਸਭ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਿਯੁੰ ਨ ਅਨਾਤ ॥
sabh teerath kiyun na anaat |
There will be no peace without that one Lord the bath at all the pilgrim-stations will be fruitless
ਜਬ ਸੇਵਿਹੋ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
jab seviho ik naam |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਣ ਕਾਮ ॥੪੭੮॥
tab hoe pooran kaam |478|
When service will be rendered to him and His Name will be remembered, then all the desires will be fulfilled.478.
ਬਿਨੁ ਏਕ ਚੌਬਿਸ ਫੋਕ ॥
bin ek chauabis fok |
ਸਬ ਹੀ ਧਰਾ ਸਬ ਲੋਕ ॥
sab hee dharaa sab lok |
Without that One Lord, all the twenty-four incarnation and all others are meaningless
ਜਿਨਿ ਏਕ ਕਉ ਪਹਿਚਾਨ ॥
jin ek kau pahichaan |
ਤਿਨ ਚਉਬਿਸੋ ਰਸ ਮਾਨ ॥੪੭੯॥
tin chaubiso ras maan |479|
He, who recognizes the One Lord, he will remain jubilant even on adoring all the twenty-four incarnations.479.
ਜੇ ਏਕ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਨ ॥
je ek ke ras bheen |
ਤਿਨਿ ਚਉਬਿਸੋ ਰਸਿ ਲੀਨ ॥
tin chaubiso ras leen |
He, who falls in love with the One Lord, he will feel happy in knowing about the wonderful works of all the twenty-four incarnations
ਜਿਨ ਏਕ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝ ॥
jin ek ko nahee boojh |
ਤਿਹ ਚਉਬਿਸੈ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝ ॥੪੮੦॥
tih chaubisai nahee soojh |480|
He, who does not recognize the One Lord, he cannot know the mysteries of the twenty-four incarnations.480.
ਜਿਨਿ ਏਕ ਕੌ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨ ॥
jin ek kau nahee cheen |
ਤਿਨਿ ਚਉਬਿਸੈ ਫਲ ਹੀਨ ॥
tin chaubisai fal heen |
He, who not recognized the One Lord, the twenty-four are fruitless for him
ਜਿਨ ਏਕ ਕੋ ਪਹਿਚਾਨ ॥
jin ek ko pahichaan |
ਤਿਨਿ ਚਉਬਿਸੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਨ ॥੪੮੧॥
tin chaubisai ras maan |481|
He, who feels the presence of One and recognizes him, he can feel the happiness of the twenty-four.481.

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਹ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਇਹਾ ਕਮਾਨੀ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
jih karanee hoveh saramindaa ihaa kamaanee reet |
You have made it your habit to practice those deeds which will bring you shame.
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਐਸੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੑੀ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥
sant kee nindaa saakat kee poojaa aisee drirraee bipareet |1|
You slander the Saints, and you worship the faithless cynics; such are the corrupt ways you have adopted. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਭੂਲੋ ਅਵਰੈ ਹੀਤ ॥
maaeaa moh bhoolo avarai heet |
Deluded by your emotional attachment to Maya, you love other things,
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਬਨ ਹਰ ਪਾਤ ਰੇ ਇਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਬੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
harichandauree ban har paat re ihai tuhaaro beet |1| rahaau |
like the enchanted city of Hari-chandauree, or the green leaves of the forest - such is your way of life. ||1||Pause||
ਚੰਦਨ ਲੇਪ ਹੋਤ ਦੇਹ ਕਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਗਰਧਭ ਭਸਮ ਸੰਗੀਤਿ ॥
chandan lep hot deh kau sukh garadhabh bhasam sangeet |
Its body may be anointed with sandalwood oil, but the donkey still loves to roll in the mud.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਰੁਚ ਆਵਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
amrit sang naeh ruch aavat bikhai tthgauree preet |2|
He is not fond of the Ambrosial Nectar; instead, he loves the poisonous drug of corruption. ||2||
ਉਤਮ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਪਵਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
autam sant bhale sanjogee is jug meh pavit puneet |
The Saints are noble and sublime; they are blessed with good fortune. They alone are pure and holy in this world.
ਜਾਤ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਾਚ ਬਾਦਰੈ ਜੀਤ ॥੩॥
jaat akaarath janam padaarath kaach baadarai jeet |3|
The jewel of this human life is passing away uselessly, lost in exchange for mere glass. ||3||
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਗੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਦੀਤ ॥
janam janam ke kilavikh dukh bhaage gur giaan anjan netr deet |
The sins and sorrows of uncounted incarnations run away, when the Guru applies the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom to the eyes.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਇਨ ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਪਰੀਤ ॥੪॥੯॥
saadhasang in dukh te nikasio naanak ek pareet |4|9|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have escaped from these troubles; Nanak loves the One Lord. ||4||9||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਪਾਨੀ ਪਖਾ ਪੀਸਉ ਸੰਤ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈ ॥
paanee pakhaa peesau sant aagai gun govind jas gaaee |
I carry the water, wave the fan, and grind the corn for the Saints; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
saas saas man naam samaarai ihu bisraam nidh paaee |1|
With each and every breath, my mind remembers the Naam, the Name of the Lord; in this way, it finds the treasure of peace. ||1||
ਤੁਮੑ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਈ ॥
tuma karahu deaa mere saaee |
Have pity on me, O my Lord and Master.
ਐਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aisee mat deejai mere tthaakur sadaa sadaa tudh dhiaaee |1| rahaau |
Bless me with such understanding, O my Lord and Master, that I may forever and ever meditate on You. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਛੂਟੈ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥
tumaree kripaa te mohu maan chhoottai binas jaae bharamaaee |
By Your Grace, emotional attachment and egotism are eradicated, and doubt is dispelled.
ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪੁ ਰਵਿਓ ਸਭ ਮਧੇ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
anad roop ravio sabh madhe jat kat pekhau jaaee |2|
The Lord, the embodiment of bliss, is pervading and permeating in all; wherever I go, there I see Him. ||2||
ਤੁਮੑ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥
tuma deaal kirapaal kripaa nidh patit paavan gosaaee |
You are kind and compassionate, the treasure of mercy, the Purifier of sinners, Lord of the world.
ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਰਾਜ ਪਾਏ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਿਮਖ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
kott sookh aanand raaj paae mukh te nimakh bulaaee |3|
I obtain millions of joys, comforts and kingdoms, if You inspire me to chant Your Name with my mouth, even for an instant. ||3||
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
jaap taap bhagat saa pooree jo prabh kai man bhaaee |
That alone is perfect chanting, meditation, penance and devotional worship service, which is pleasing to God's Mind.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਬੁਝੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naam japat trisanaa sabh bujhee hai naanak tripat aghaaee |4|10|
Chanting the Naam, all thirst and desire is satisfied; Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled. ||4||10||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਵਸਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਵਣ ਚਤੁਰ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
jin keene vas apunai trai gun bhavan chatur sansaaraa |
She controls the three qualities and the four directions of the world.
ਜਗ ਇਸਨਾਨ ਤਾਪ ਥਾਨ ਖੰਡੇ ਕਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਜੰਤੁ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
jag isanaan taap thaan khandde kiaa ihu jant vichaaraa |1|
She destroys sacrificial feasts, cleansing baths, penances and sacred places of pilgrimage; what is this poor person to do? ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਤਉ ਛੂਟੋ ॥
prabh kee ott gahee tau chhootto |
I grasped God's Support and Protection, and then I was emancipated.
ਸਾਧ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਏ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਤਬ ਹੂਟੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadh prasaad har har har gaae bikhai biaadh tab hootto |1| rahaau |
By the Grace of the Holy Saints, I sang the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and my sins and afflictions were taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਨਹ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨਹ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਬਕੀਐ ਨਹ ਮੋਹੈ ਉਹ ਡੀਠੀ ॥
neh suneeai neh mukh te bakeeai neh mohai uh ddeetthee |
She is not heard - she does not speak with a mouth; she is not seen enticing mortals.
ਐਸੀ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੀਠੀ ॥੨॥
aisee tthgauree paae bhulaavai man sabh kai laagai meetthee |2|
She administers her intoxicating drug, and so confuses them; thus she seems sweet to everyone's mind. ||2||
ਮਾਇ ਬਾਪ ਪੂਤ ਹਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਉਨਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਓ ਦੂਆ ॥
maae baap poot hit bhraataa un ghar ghar melio dooaa |
In each and every home, she has implanted the sense of duality in mother, father, children, friends and siblings.
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਵਾਧਿ ਘਾਟਿ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਲਰਿ ਲਰਿ ਮੂਆ ॥੩॥
kis hee vaadh ghaatt kis hee peh sagale lar lar mooaa |3|
Some have more, and some have less; they fight and fight, to the death. ||3||
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
hau balihaaree satigur apune jin ihu chalat dikhaaeaa |
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru, who has shown me this wondrous play.
ਗੂਝੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
goojhee bhaeh jalai sansaaraa bhagat na biaapai maaeaa |4|
The world is being consumed by this hidden fire, but Maya does not cling to the Lord's devotees. ||4||
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ॥
sant prasaad mahaa sukh paaeaa sagale bandhan kaatte |
By the Grace of the Saints, I have obtained supreme bliss, and all my bonds have been broken.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਖਾਟੇ ॥੫॥੧੧॥
har har naam naanak dhan paaeaa apunai ghar lai aaeaa khaatte |5|11|
Nanak has obtained the wealth of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; having earned his profits, he has now returned home. ||5||11||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਤੁਮ ਦਾਤੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਨਾਇਕ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
tum daate tthaakur pratipaalak naaeik khasam hamaare |
You are the Giver, O Lord, O Cherisher, my Master, my Husband Lord.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਹੁ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
nimakh nimakh tum hee pratipaalahu ham baarik tumare dhaare |1|
Each and every moment, You cherish and nurture me; I am Your child, and I rely upon You alone. ||1||
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਏਕ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
jihavaa ek kavan gun kaheeai |
I have only one tongue - which of Your Glorious Virtues can I describe?
ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
besumaar beant suaamee tero ant na kin hee laheeai |1| rahaau |
Unlimited, infinite Lord and Master - no one knows Your limits. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਖੰਡਹੁ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਧੀ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ॥
kott paraadh hamaare khanddahu anik bidhee samajhaavahu |
You destroy millions of my sins, and teach me in so many ways.
ਹਮ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅਲਪ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਆਪਨ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
ham agiaan alap mat thoree tum aapan birad rakhaavahu |2|
I am so ignorant - I understand nothing at all. Please honor Your innate nature, and save me! ||2||
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸਜਨ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
tumaree saran tumaaree aasaa tum hee sajan suhele |
I seek Your Sanctuary - You are my only hope. You are my companion, and my best friend.
ਰਾਖਹੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਗੋਲੇ ॥੩॥੧੨॥
raakhahu raakhanahaar deaalaa naanak ghar ke gole |3|12|
Save me, O Merciful Saviour Lord; Nanak is the slave of Your home. ||3||12||
