ਮੁਖ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਸ ਬਰੰ ॥

ਸੁਭ ਸੋਭਤ ਚੇਲਕ ਸੰਗ ਨਰੰ ॥
subh sobhat chelak sang naran |
The sage was alongwith his disciples having smeared his face with ashes and wearing the ochre-coloured clothes
ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਏਕ ਮੁਖੰ ॥
gun gaavat gobind ek mukhan |
ਬਨ ਡੋਲਤ ਆਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਸੁਖੰ ॥੩੫੯॥
ban ddolat aas udaas sukhan |359|
He was singing the praises of the Lord with his mouth and was moving unattached with all kind of desires.359.
ਸੁਭ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਪੂਰਤ ਨਾਦ ਨਵੰ ॥
subh soorat poorat naad navan |
ਅਤਿ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਰਿਖੰ ॥

Various sounds were created with the mouth and the sage Dutt’s body was allied with many types of magnificence
ਨਹੀ ਬੋਲਤ ਡੋਲਤ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰ ॥
nahee bolat ddolat des disan |
ਗੁਨ ਚਾਰਤ ਧਾਰਤ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਹਰੰ ॥੩੬੦॥

He was moving silently in various countries far and near and was meditating on the Lord in his mind.360.
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਯ ਚਾਵੰਡਿ ਚਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥
avilokay chaavandd chaar prabhan |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਤ ਉਡੀ ਗਹਿ ਮਾਸੁ ਮੁਖੰ ॥
grihi jaat uddee geh maas mukhan |
There he saw a vulture, who was holding a piece of flesh in his mouth and flying
ਲਖਿ ਕੈ ਪਲ ਚਾਵੰਡਿ ਚਾਰ ਚਲੀ ॥
lakh kai pal chaavandd chaar chalee |
ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਪੁਸਟ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਥ ਬਲੀ ॥੩੬੧॥
tih te at pusatt pramaath balee |361|
Seeing it, more powerful four vultures moved forward.361.
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿਸ ਮਾਸ ਅਕਾਸ ਉਡੀ ॥
avilokis maas akaas uddee |
ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਤਹੀ ਤਿਹੰ ਸੰਗ ਮੰਡੀ ॥
at judh tahee tihan sang manddee |
They flew in the sky and there they began to fight with that vulture
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਸੁ ਚੜਾ ਉਡਿ ਆਪ ਚਲੀ ॥
taj maas charraa udd aap chalee |
ਲਹਿ ਕੈ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਵੰਡਿ ਚਾਰ ਬਲੀ ॥੩੬੨॥
leh kai chit chaavandd chaar balee |362|
Whe dropped the pieced of flesh on seeing these powerful vultures and flew away.362.
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਸੁ ਚਾਵੰਡਿ ਚਾਰ ਪਲੰ ॥
avilok su chaavandd chaar palan |
ਤਜਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਭਾਈ ਥਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਥਲੰ ॥
taj traas bhaaee thir bhoom thalan |
Seeing those four vulture, even the earth below became stable out of fear seeing them,
ਲਖਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਮਨੰ ਮੁਨਿ ਚਉਕ ਰਹ︀ਯੋ ॥
lakh taas manan mun chauk rehayo |
ਚਿਤ ਸੋਰ੍ਰਹਸਵੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਕਹ︀ਯੋ ॥੩੬੩॥
chit sorrahasave gur taas kehayo |363|
The sage was startled and adopted them (it) as the Sixteeth Guru.363.
ਕੋਊ ਐਸ ਤਜੈ ਜਬ ਸਰਬ ਧਨੰ ॥
koaoo ais tajai jab sarab dhanan |
ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਮਨੰ ॥
kar kai bin aas udaas manan |
If anyone getting unattached with all the desires, forsakes all the assets
ਤਬ ਪਾਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਤਿਆਗ ਰਹੈ ॥
tab paachau indree tiaag rahai |
ਇਨ ਚੀਲਨ ਜਿਉ ਸ੍ਰੁਤ ਐਸ ਕਹੈ ॥੩੬੪॥
ein cheelan jiau srut ais kahai |364|
Then only he can be considered an ascetic make his understanding like these vultures.364.

After adopting the vulture as the seventeenth Guru with unattached mind, Dutt proceeded again on his path
ਮੁਖਿ ਪੂਰਤ ਨਾਦਿ ਨਿਨਾਦ ਧੁਨੰ ॥
mukh poorat naad ninaad dhunan |
ਸੁਨਿ ਰੀਝਤ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਦੇਵ ਨਰੰ ॥੩੬੫॥
sun reejhat gandhrab dev naran |365|
He was producing various types of sounds form his mouth and hearing the same, the gods, Gandharvas, men and women, all were getting pleased.365.
ਚਲਿ ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ਸਰਿਤਾ ਨਿਕਟੰ ॥
chal jaat bhe saritaa nikattan |
ਹਠਵੰਤ ਰਿਖੰ ਤਪਸਾ ਬਿਕਟ ॥
hatthavant rikhan tapasaa bikatt |
ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਦੁਧੀਰਯਾ ਏਕ ਤਹਾ ॥
avilok dudheerayaa ek tahaa |
ਉਛਰੰਤ ਹੁਤੇ ਨਦਿ ਮਛ ਜਹਾ ॥੩੬੬॥
auchharant hute nad machh jahaa |366|
The persistent and ascetic sage reached near a stream, where he saw a flying bird named ‘Mahiggir’ near the jumping fish.366.
ਥਰਕੰਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਨਭੰ ॥
tharakant huto ik chit nabhan |
ਅਤਿ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਰੰਗ ਸੁਭੰ ॥
at ujal ang surang subhan |
With concentrated mind, he was stable at one place in the sky and his limbs were extremely white and pretty
ਨਹੀ ਆਨਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਆਪ ਦ੍ਰਿਗੰ ॥
nahee aan bilokat aap drigan |
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਹ︀ਯੋ ਗਡ ਮਛ ਮਨੰ ॥੩੬੭॥
eih bhaat rehayo gadd machh manan |367|
His mind was absorbed in the fish and he was not seeing anyone else.367.
ਤਹਾ ਜਾਇ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਜਨ ਕੈ ॥
tahaa jaae mahaa mun majan kai |
ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾ ਸੁਚ ਕੈ ॥
autth kai har dhiaan lagaa such kai |
These the Guru went and took bath and getting up mediated on the Lord,
ਨ ਟਰੋ ਤਬ ਲੌ ਵਹ ਮਛ ਅਰੀ ॥
n ttaro tab lau veh machh aree |
ਰਥ ਸੂਰ ਅਥਿਓ ਨਹ ਡੀਠ ਟਰੀ ॥੩੬੮॥
rath soor athio neh ddeetth ttaree |368|
But that enemy of the fish, concentrated his attention on the fish even till sunset.368.
ਥਰਕੰਤ ਰਹਾ ਨਭਿ ਮਛ ਕਟੰ ॥
tharakant rahaa nabh machh kattan |
ਰਥ ਭਾਨੁ ਹਟਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਛੁਟੰ ॥
rath bhaan hattio nahee dhayaan chhuttan |
He remained unwavered in the sky and did not even think of the sunset
ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ॥
avilok mahaa mun mohi rahio |
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤ੍ਰਸਵੋ ਕਰ ਤਾਸੁ ਕਹਿਓ ॥੩੬੯॥
gur satrasavo kar taas kahio |369|
Seeing him, the great sage observed silence and accepted him as the Seventeenth Guru.369.

Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
har naam dhan niramal at apaaraa |
The wealth of the Lord's Name is immaculate, and absolutely infinite.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
gur kai sabad bhare bhanddaaraa |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is over-flowing with treasure.
ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
naam dhan bin hor sabh bikh jaan |
Know that, except for the wealth of the Name, all other wealth is poison.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਲੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
maaeaa mohi jalai abhimaan |1|
The egotistical people are burning in their attachment to Maya. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
guramukh har ras chaakhai koe |
How rare is that Gurmukh who tastes the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis sadaa anand hovai din raatee poorai bhaag paraapat hoe | rahaau |
He is always in bliss, day and night; through perfect good destiny, he obtains the Name. ||Pause||
ਸਬਦੁ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥
sabad deepak varatai tihu loe |
The Word of the Shabad is a lamp, illuminating the three worlds.
ਜੋ ਚਾਖੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo chaakhai so niramal hoe |
One who tastes it, becomes immaculate.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਇ ॥
niramal naam haumai mal dhoe |
The immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, washes off the filth of ego.
ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
saachee bhagat sadaa sukh hoe |2|
True devotional worship brings lasting peace. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥
jin har ras chaakhiaa so har jan log |
One who tastes the sublime essence of the Lord is the Lord's humble servant.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
tis sadaa harakh naahee kade sog |
He is forever happy; he is never sad.
ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
aap mukat avaraa mukat karaavai |
He himself is liberated, and he liberates others as well.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
har naam japai har te sukh paavai |3|
He chants the Lord's Name, and through the Lord, he finds peace. ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭ ਮੁਈ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
bin satigur sabh muee bilalaae |
Without the True Guru, everyone dies, crying out in pain.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦਾਝਹਿ ਸਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
anadin daajheh saat na paae |
Night and day, they burn, and find no peace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
satigur milai sabh trisan bujhaae |
But meeting the True Guru, all thirst is quenched.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak naam saant sukh paae |4|2|
O Nanak, through the Naam, one finds peace and tranquility. ||4||2||

ਸਦਾ ਧਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
sadaa dhan antar naam samaale |
Gather in and cherish forever the wealth of the Lord's Name, deep within;
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥
jeea jant jineh pratipaale |
He cherishes and nurtures all beings and creatures.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
mukat padaarath tin kau paae |
They alone obtain the treasure of Liberation,
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
har kai naam rate liv laae |1|
who are lovingly imbued with, and focused on the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gur sevaa te har naam dhan paavai |
Serving the Guru, one obtains the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
antar paragaas har naam dhiaavai | rahaau |
He is illumined and enlightened within, and he meditates on the Lord's Name. ||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਗੂੜਾ ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਹੋਇ ॥
eihu har rang goorraa dhan pir hoe |
This love for the Lord is like the love of the bride for her husband.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
saant seegaar raave prabh soe |
God ravishes and enjoys the soul-bride who is adorned with peace and tranquility.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
haumai vich prabh koe na paae |
No one finds God through egotism.
ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੨॥
moolahu bhulaa janam gavaae |2|
Wandering away from the Primal Lord, the root of all, one wastes his life in vain. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
gur te saat sehaj sukh baanee |
Tranquility, celestial peace, pleasure and the Word of His Bani come from the Guru.
ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
sevaa saachee naam samaanee |
True is that service, which leads one to merge in the Naam.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
sabad milai preetam sadaa dhiaae |
Blessed with the Word of the Shabad, he meditates forever on the Lord, the Beloved.
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
saach naam vaddiaaee paae |3|
Through the True Name, glorious greatness is obtained. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
aape karataa jug jug soe |
The Creator Himself abides throughout the ages.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
nadar kare melaavaa hoe |
If He casts His Glance of Grace, then we meet Him.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gurabaanee te har man vasaae |
Through the Word of Gurbani, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak saach rate prabh aap milaae |4|3|
O Nanak, God unites with Himself those who are imbued with Truth. ||4||3||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਤੀਜਾ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl:
ਜਗੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਮੈਲੋ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥
jag mailaa mailo hoe jaae |
The world is polluted, and those in the world become polluted as well.
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥
aavai jaae doojai lobhaae |
In attachment to duality, it comes and goes.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਭ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥
doojai bhaae sabh paraj vigoee |
This love of duality has ruined the entire world.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥
manamukh chottaa khaae apunee pat khoee |1|
The self-willed manmukh suffers punishment, and forfeits his honor. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur sevaa te jan niramal hoe |
Serving the Guru, one becomes immaculate.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਪਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
antar naam vasai pat aootam hoe | rahaau |
He enshrines the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within, and his state becomes exalted. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
guramukh ubare har saranaaee |
The Gurmukhs are saved, taking to the Lord's Sanctuary.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥
raam naam raate bhagat drirraaee |
Attuned to the Lord's Name, they commit themselves to devotional worship.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਨੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥
bhagat kare jan vaddiaaee paae |
The Lord's humble servant performs devotional worship, and is blessed with greatness.
ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੨॥
saach rate sukh sehaj samaae |2|
Attuned to Truth, he is absorbed in celestial peace. ||2||
ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
saache kaa gaahak viralaa ko jaan |
Know that one who purchases the True Name is very rare.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
gur kai sabad aap pachhaan |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he comes to understand himself.
ਸਾਚੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
saachee raas saachaa vaapaar |
True is his capital, and true is his trade.
ਸੋ ਧੰਨੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
so dhan purakh jis naam piaar |3|
Blessed is that person, who loves the Naam. ||3||
ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
tin prabh saachai ik sach laae |
God, the True Lord, has attached some to His True Name.
ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
aootam baanee sabad sunaae |
They listen to the most sublime Word of His Bani, and the Word of His Shabad.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
prabh saache kee saachee kaar |
True is service to the True Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥
naanak naam savaaranahaar |4|4|
O Nanak, the Naam is the Embellisher. ||4||4||
