Now beings the description of the adoption of the Arrow-maker as his Fifteenth Guru

TOTAK STANZA

ਕਰਿ ਚਉਦਸਵੋਂ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਤ ਮੁਨੰ ॥

kar chaudasavon gur dat munan |

ਮਗ ਲਗੀਆ ਪੂਰਤ ਨਾਦ ਧੁਨੰ ॥

mag lageea poorat naad dhunan |

Adopting the fourteenth Guru, the sage Dutt, blowing his conch, moved further

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਪੂਰਬ ਪਛਮ ਉਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਸੰ ॥

bhram poorab pachham utr disan |

ਤਕਿ ਚਲੀਆ ਦਛਨ ਮੋਨ ਇਸੰ ॥੩੪੩॥

tak chaleea dachhan mon isan |343|

After wandering through the East, West and North and observing silence, he moved towards the Southern direction.343.

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਹਾ ਇਕ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੰ ॥

avilok tahaa ik chitr puran |

ਜਨੁ ਕ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਵਾਲਯ ਸਰਬ ਹਰੰ ॥

jan kraat divaalay sarab haran |

There he saw a city of portraits, where there were temples everywhere

ਨਗਰੇਸ ਤਹਾ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਗੰ ॥

nagares tahaa bahu maar mrigan |

ਸਬ ਸਿੰਘ ਮ੍ਰਿਗੀਪਤਿ ਘਾਇ ਖਗੰ ॥੩੪੪॥

sab singh mrigeepat ghaae khagan |344|

The king of that place had killed many deer and lions with his dagger.344.

ਚਤੁਰੰ ਲਏ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੰਗਿ ਘਨੀ ॥

chaturan le nrip sang ghanee |

ਥਹਰੰਤ ਧੁਜਾ ਚਮਕੰਤ ਅਨੀ ॥

thaharant dhujaa chamakant anee |

The king took the four division of his army with him

ਬਹੁ ਭੂਖਨ ਚੀਰ ਜਰਾਵ ਜਰੀ ॥

bahu bhookhan cheer jaraav jaree |

ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸਾਲਯ ਕੀ ਜਨੁ ਕ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥੩੪੫॥

tridasaalay kee jan kraat haree |345|

The banners of the army were fluttering and the studded garments were worn by all the warriors the beauty of all of them was making the beauty of all other places shyful.345.

ਤਹ ਬੈਠ ਹੁਤੋ ਇਕ ਬਾਣਗਰੰ ॥

teh baitth huto ik baanagaran |

ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਕਿਧੌ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਨੁਚਰੰ ॥

bin praan kidhau nahee bainucharan |

An arrow-maker was sitting there, and appeared to be lifeless

ਤਹ ਬਾਜਤ ਬਾਜ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਗਣੰ ॥

teh baajat baaj mridang ganan |

ਡਫ ਢੋਲਕ ਝਾਝ ਮੁਚੰਗ ਭਣੰ ॥੩੪੬॥

ddaf dtolak jhaajh muchang bhanan |346|

The small and big drums and the tabors etc. resounded.346.

ਦਲ ਨਾਥ ਲਏ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਲੰ ॥

dal naath le bahu sang dalan |

ਜਲ ਬਾਰਿਧ ਜਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਉਛਲੰ ॥

jal baaridh jaan pralai uchhalan |

The king was with his army and that army was rushing forth like the clouds of doomsday

ਹਯ ਹਿੰਸਤ ਚਿੰਸਤ ਗੂੜ ਗਜੰ ॥

hay hinsat chinsat goorr gajan |

ਗਲ ਗਜਤ ਲਜਤ ਸੁੰਡ ਲਜੰ ॥੩੪੭॥

gal gajat lajat sundd lajan |347|

The horses were neighing and the elephants were trumpeting hearing the roaring of the elephants, the clouds were feeling shy.347.

ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਢਾਹਤ ਗਾਹਤ ਗੂੜ ਦਲੰ ॥

drum dtaahat gaahat goorr dalan |

ਕਰ ਖੀਚਤ ਸੀਚਤ ਧਾਰ ਜਲੰ ॥

kar kheechat seechat dhaar jalan |

ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੈ ॥

sukh paavat dhaavat pekh prabhai |

ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਬਿਮੋਹਤ ਰਾਜ ਸੁਭੈ ॥੩੪੮॥

avalok bimohat raaj subhai |348|

That army was moving peacefully, while felling the trees and drinking the water from the water-currents, seeing which all were getting allured.348.

ਚਪਿ ਡਾਰਤ ਚਾਚਰ ਭਾਨੁ ਸੂਅੰ ॥

chap ddaarat chaachar bhaan sooan |

ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਤ ਦੇਖ ਨਰੇਸ ਭੂਅੰ ॥

sukh paavat dekh nares bhooan |

The sun and the moon were frightened from that army and seeing that king, all other kings of the earth were feeling happy

ਗਲ ਗਜਤ ਢੋਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਸੁਰੰ ॥

gal gajat dtol mridang suran |

ਬਹੁ ਬਾਜਤ ਨਾਦ ਨਯੰ ਮੁਰਜੰ ॥੩੪੯॥

bahu baajat naad nayan murajan |349|

Various kinds of musical instruments including the drums resounded.349.

ਕਲਿ ਕਿੰਕਣਿ ਭੂਖਤ ਅੰਗਿ ਬਰੰ ॥

kal kinkan bhookhat ang baran |

ਤਨ ਲੇਪਤ ਚੰਦਨ ਚਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥

tan lepat chandan chaar prabhan |

Various kinds of colourful ornaments including Noopar and Kinkini looked splendid and there was the plastering of sandal on all the faces

ਮ੍ਰਿਦੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਬੋਲਤ ਬਾਤ ਮੁਖੰ ॥

mrid ddolat bolat baat mukhan |

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਖੇਲ ਅਖੇਟ ਸੁਖੰ ॥੩੫੦॥

grihi aavat khel akhett sukhan |350|

All of them were moving an talking happily and were returning to their homes happily.350.

ਮੁਖ ਪੋਛ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਫੁਲੇਲ ਸੁਭੰ ॥

mukh pochh gulaab fulel subhan |

ਕਲਿ ਕਜਲ ਸੋਹਤ ਚਾਰੁ ਚਖੰ ॥

kal kajal sohat chaar chakhan |

They were wiping the essences of rose and otto from their faces and there was comely antimony in their eyes

ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲ ਚੰਦ ਸਮਾਨ ਸੁਭੰ ॥

mukh ujal chand samaan subhan |

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਛਕੇ ਗਣ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬਿਸੰ ॥੩੫੧॥

avilok chhake gan gandhrabisan |351|

The pretty faces of al looked fine like ivory and even Ganas and Gandharvas were pleased to see them.351.

ਸੁਭ ਸੋਭਤ ਹਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਉਰੰ ॥

subh sobhat haar apaar uran |

ਤਿਲਕੰ ਦੁਤਿ ਕੇਸਰ ਚਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥

tilakan dut kesar chaar prabhan |

There were pretty necklaces around the necks of all and there were frontal marks of saffron on the foreheads of all

ਅਨਸੰਖ ਅਛੂਹਨ ਸੰਗ ਦਲੰ ॥

anasankh achhoohan sang dalan |

ਤਿਹ ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ਸਨ ਸੈਨ ਮਗੰ ॥੩੫੨॥

tih jaat bhe san sain magan |352|

This enormous army was moving on that path.352.

ਫਿਰਿ ਆਇ ਗਏ ਤਿਹ ਪੈਂਡ ਮੁਨੰ ॥

fir aae ge tih paindd munan |

ਕਲਿ ਬਾਜਤ ਸੰਖਨ ਨਾਦ ਧੁਨੰ ॥

kal baajat sankhan naad dhunan |

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਹਾ ਇਕ ਬਾਨ ਗਰੰ ॥

avilok tahaa ik baan garan |

ਸਿਰ ਨੀਚ ਮਨੋ ਲਿਖ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਧਰੰ ॥੩੫੩॥

sir neech mano likh chitr dharan |353|

The sage Dutt, blowing his conch reached on that path were he saw an arrow-maker with his bowed head, sitting like a portrait.353.

ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਰਿਖੀਸਰ ਤੀਰ ਗਰੰ ॥

avilok rikheesar teer garan |

ਹਸਿ ਬੈਨ ਸੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਇਮੰ ਉਚਰੰ ॥

has bain su bhaat iman ucharan |

ਕਹੁ ਭੂਪ ਗਏ ਲੀਏ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਲੰ ॥

kahu bhoop ge lee sang dalan |

ਕਹਿਓ ਸੋ ਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਗੰ ॥੩੫੪॥

kahio so na guroo avilok drigan |354|

The great sage, seeing him, said this, “Where had the king gone with his army?” That arrow-maker replied, “I have not seen anyone with my eyes.”354.

ਚਕਿ ਚਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਅਚਿਤ ਮੁਨੰ ॥

chak chit rahe achit munan |

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਤਪੀ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਡੁਲੰ ॥

anakhandd tapee nahee jog ddulan |

The sage, seeing his stable mind, was wonder-struck

ਅਨਆਸ ਅਭੰਗ ਉਦਾਸ ਮਨੰ ॥

anaas abhang udaas manan |

ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਸ ਸਭੰ ॥੩੫੫॥

abikaar apaar prabhaas sabhan |355|

That complete and great ascetic never swerved that unattached person with vice-less mind was infinitely glorious.355.

ਅਨਭੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਅਨਖੰਡ ਤਪੰ ॥

anabhang prabhaa anakhandd tapan |

ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਜਤੀ ਅਨਿਆਸ ਜਪੰ ॥

abikaar jatee aniaas japan |

Because of his complete austerity there glory on his face and he was like a vice-less celibate

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਤੰ ਅਨਡੰਡ ਤਨੰ ॥

anakhandd bratan anaddandd tanan |

ਹਠਵੰਤ ਬ੍ਰਤੀ ਰਿਖਿ ਅਤ੍ਰ ਸੂਅੰ ॥੩੫੬॥

hatthavant bratee rikh atr sooan |356|

His now was perfect and the body distinctive he was persistent, vow-observing and like the son of sage Atri.356.

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਸਰੰ ਕਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੁਤੰ ॥

avilok saran kar dhiaan jutan |

ਰਹਿ ਰੀਝ ਜਟੀ ਹਠਵੰਤ ਬ੍ਰਤੰ ॥

reh reejh jattee hatthavant bratan |

The sage Dutt seeing his arrows and meditation, was greatly pleased

ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨਿਸ ਪੰਚਦਸ੍ਵੋ ਪ੍ਰਬਲੰ ॥

gur maanis panchadasvo prabalan |

ਹਠ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਨ ਪਰੰ ॥੩੫੭॥

hatth chhaadd sabai tin paan paran |357|

Adopting him his fifteenth Guru and leaving all his persistence he accepted him as his redeemer.357.

ਇਮਿ ਨਾਹ ਸੌ ਜੋ ਨਰ ਨੇਹ ਕਰੈ ॥

eim naah sau jo nar neh karai |

ਭਵ ਧਾਰ ਅਪਾਰਹਿ ਪਾਰ ਪਰੈ ॥

bhav dhaar apaareh paar parai |

In this way, whosoever loves the Lord, he crosses this infinite ocean of existence

ਤਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਪਾਸਿ ਧਰੇ ॥

tan ke man ke bhram paas dhare |

ਕਰਿ ਪੰਦ੍ਰਸਵੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਨ ਪਰੇ ॥੩੫੮॥

kar pandrasavo gur paan pare |358|

Removing the illusions of his body ad mind, Dutt fell down at the feet of his Fifteenth Guru in this way.358.

Dhanaasaree, First Mehl:

ਚੋਰੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ॥

chor salaahe cheet na bheejai |

If a thief praises someone, his mind is not pleased.

ਜੇ ਬਦੀ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਤਸੂ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ॥

je badee kare taa tasoo na chheejai |

If a thief curses him, no damage is done.

ਚੋਰ ਕੀ ਹਾਮਾ ਭਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

chor kee haamaa bhare na koe |

No one will take responsibility for a thief.

ਚੋਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

chor keea changaa kiau hoe |1|

How can a thief's actions be good? ||1||

ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਅੰਧੇ ਕੁਤੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥

sun man andhe kute koorriaar |

Listen, O mind, you blind, false dog!

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਸਚਿਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bin bole boojheeai sachiaar |1| rahaau |

Even without your speaking, the Lord knows and understands. ||1||Pause||

ਚੋਰੁ ਸੁਆਲਿਉ ਚੋਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥

chor suaaliau chor siaanaa |

A thief may be handsome, and a thief may be wise,

ਖੋਟੇ ਕਾ ਮੁਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਦੁਗਾਣਾ ॥

khotte kaa mul ek dugaanaa |

but he is still just a counterfeit coin, worth only a shell.

ਜੇ ਸਾਥਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਦੀਜੈ ਰਲਾਇ ॥

je saath rakheeai deejai ralaae |

If it is kept and mixed with other coins,

ਜਾ ਪਰਖੀਐ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

jaa parakheeai khottaa hoe jaae |2|

it will be found to be false, when the coins are inspected. ||2||

ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

jaisaa kare su taisaa paavai |

As one acts, so does he receive.

ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵੈ ॥

aap beej aape hee khaavai |

As he plants, so does he eat.

ਜੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਆਪੇ ਖਾਇ ॥

je vaddiaaeea aape khaae |

He may praise himself gloriously,

ਜੇਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤੇਹੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

jehee surat tehai raeh jaae |3|

but still, according to his understanding, so is the path he must follow. ||3||

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਕੂੜੀਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਬਾੜੁ ॥

je sau koorreea koorr kabaarr |

He may tell hundreds of lies to conceal his falsehood,

ਭਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਖਉ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

bhaavai sabh aakhau sansaar |

and all the world may call him good.

ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਅਧੀ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

tudh bhaavai adhee paravaan |

If it pleases You, Lord, even the foolish are approved.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥

naanak jaanai jaan sujaan |4|4|6|

O Nanak, the Lord is wise, knowing, all-knowing. ||4||4||6||

Raag DhanaasreeGuru Guru Nanak

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

dhanaasaree mahalaa 1 |

Dhanaasaree, First Mehl:

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ॥

kaaeaa kaagad man paravaanaa |

The body is the paper, and the mind is the inscription written upon it.

ਸਿਰ ਕੇ ਲੇਖ ਨ ਪੜੈ ਇਆਣਾ ॥

sir ke lekh na parrai eaanaa |

The ignorant fool does not read what is written on his forehead.

ਦਰਗਹ ਘੜੀਅਹਿ ਤੀਨੇ ਲੇਖ ॥

daragah gharreeeh teene lekh |

In the Court of the Lord, three inscriptions are recorded.

ਖੋਟਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਵੇਖੁ ॥੧॥

khottaa kaam na aavai vekh |1|

Behold, the counterfeit coin is worthless there. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੁਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

naanak je vich rupaa hoe |

O Nanak, if there is silver in it,

ਖਰਾ ਖਰਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kharaa kharaa aakhai sabh koe |1| rahaau |

then everyone proclaims, "It is genuine, it is genuine." ||1||Pause||

ਕਾਦੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਮਲੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

kaadee koorr bol mal khaae |

The Qazi tells lies and eats filth;

ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਆ ਘਾਇ ॥

braahaman naavai jeea ghaae |

the Brahmin kills and then takes cleansing baths.

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧੁ ॥

jogee jugat na jaanai andh |

The Yogi is blind, and does not know the Way.

ਤੀਨੇ ਓਜਾੜੇ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ॥੨॥

teene ojaarre kaa bandh |2|

The three of them devise their own destruction. ||2||

ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੋ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

so jogee jo jugat pachhaanai |

He alone is a Yogi, who understands the Way.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

gur parasaadee eko jaanai |

By Guru's Grace, he knows the One Lord.

ਕਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਜੋ ਉਲਟੀ ਕਰੈ ॥

kaajee so jo ulattee karai |

He alone is a Qazi, who turns away from the world,

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ॥

gur parasaadee jeevat marai |

and who, by Guru's Grace, remains dead while yet alive.

ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਜੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥

so braahaman jo braham beechaarai |

He alone is a Brahmin, who contemplates God.

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੩॥

aap tarai sagale kul taarai |3|

He saves himself, and saves all his generations as well. ||3||

ਦਾਨਸਬੰਦੁ ਸੋਈ ਦਿਲਿ ਧੋਵੈ ॥

daanasaband soee dil dhovai |

One who cleanses his own mind is wise.

ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਵੈ ॥

musalamaan soee mal khovai |

One who cleanses himself of impurity is a Muslim.

ਪੜਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

parriaa boojhai so paravaan |

One who reads and understands is acceptable.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥

jis sir daragah kaa neesaan |4|5|7|

Upon his forehead is the Insignia of the Court of the Lord. ||4||5||7||

Dhanaasaree, First Mehl, Third House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਕਾਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਤ ਕਾ ਢਬੁ ॥

kaal naahee jog naahee naahee sat kaa dtab |

No, no, this is not the time, when people know the way to Yoga and Truth.

ਥਾਨਸਟ ਜਗ ਭਰਿਸਟ ਹੋਏ ਡੂਬਤਾ ਇਵ ਜਗੁ ॥੧॥

thaanasatt jag bharisatt hoe ddoobataa iv jag |1|

The holy places of worship in the world are polluted, and so the world is drowning. ||1||

ਕਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

kal meh raam naam saar |

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the most sublime.

ਅਖੀ ਤ ਮੀਟਹਿ ਨਾਕ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਠਗਣ ਕਉ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

akhee ta meetteh naak pakarreh tthagan kau sansaar |1| rahaau |

Some people try to deceive the world by closing their eyes and holding their nostrils closed. ||1||Pause||

ਆਂਟ ਸੇਤੀ ਨਾਕੁ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਸੂਝਤੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੋਅ ॥

aantt setee naak pakarreh soojhate tin loa |

They close off their nostrils with their fingers, and claim to see the three worlds.

ਮਗਰ ਪਾਛੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਏਹੁ ਪਦਮੁ ਅਲੋਅ ॥੨॥

magar paachhai kachh na soojhai ehu padam aloa |2|

But they cannot even see what is behind them. What a strange lotus pose this is! ||2||

ਖਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਲੇਛ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਗਹੀ ॥

khatreea ta dharam chhoddiaa malechh bhaakhiaa gahee |

The K'shatriyas have abandoned their religion, and have adopted a foreign language.

ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਇਕ ਵਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ॥੩॥

srisatt sabh ik varan hoee dharam kee gat rahee |3|

The whole world has been reduced to the same social status; the state of righteousness and Dharma has been lost. ||3||

ਅਸਟ ਸਾਜ ਸਾਜਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸੁ ॥

asatt saaj saaj puraan sodheh kareh bed abhiaas |

They analyze eight chapters of (Panini's) grammar and the Puraanas. They study the Vedas,

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੬॥੮॥

bin naam har ke mukat naahee kahai naanak daas |4|1|6|8|

but without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated; so says Nanak, the Lord's slave. ||4||1||6||8||
