Now begins the description of an Orderly as the Thirteenth Guru

TOMAR STANZA

ਤਬ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

tab dat dev mahaan |

ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

das chaar chaar nidhaan |

Then the great Dutt, who was a treasure in eighteen sciences and

ਅਤਿਭੁਤ ਉਤਮ ਗਾਤ ॥

atibhut utam gaat |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ॥੨੭੦॥

har naam let prabhaat |270|

Had a fine physique, used to remember the Name of the Lord at day-dawn.270.

ਅਕਲੰਕ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ॥

akalank ujal ang |

ਲਖਿ ਲਾਜ ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ॥

lakh laaj gang tarang |

Seeing his bright and blemishless limbs, the waves of Ganges felt shy

ਅਨਭੈ ਅਭੂਤ ਸਰੂਪ ॥

anabhai abhoot saroop |

ਲਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਲਾਜਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੨੭੧॥

lakh jot laajat bhoop |271|

Looking at his marvelous figure, the kings became shyful.271.

ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਏਕ ॥

avalok su bhrit ek |

ਗੁਨ ਮਧਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

gun madh jaas anek |

He saw an orderly, who had many qualities, even at midnight, he was standing at the gate

ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥

adh raat tthaadt duaar |

ਬਹੁ ਬਰਖ ਮੇਘ ਫੁਹਾਰ ॥੨੭੨॥

bahu barakh megh fuhaar |272|

In this way, during the rainfall, he stood firmly without caring for the rain.272.

ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਤ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥

adh raat dat nihaar |

ਗੁਣਵੰਤ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

gunavant bikram apaar |

ਜਲ ਮੁਸਲਧਾਰ ਪਰੰਤ ॥

jal musaladhaar parant |

ਨਿਜ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਹੰਤ ॥੨੭੩॥

nij nain dekh mahant |273|

Dutt saw that Vikram-like individual full of qualities at midnight and he also saw that it was greatly pleased in his mind.273.

ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਠਾਢ ਸੁ ਐਸ ॥

eik chit tthaadt su ais |

ਸੋਵਰਨ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਜੈਸ ॥

sovaran moorat jais |

He seemed standing like a golden statue single-mindedly

ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ॥

drirr dekh taa kee mat |

ਅਤਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਰੀਝੇ ਦਤ ॥੨੭੪॥

at maneh reejhe dat |274|

Seeing his concerntration, Dutt was greatly pleased in his mind. 274.

ਨਹੀ ਸੀਤ ਮਾਨਤ ਘਾਮ ॥

nahee seet maanat ghaam |

ਨਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਲ︀ਯਾਵਤ ਛਾਮ ॥

nahee chit layaavat chhaam |

ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਮੋਰਤ ਅੰਗ ॥

nahee naik morat ang |

ਇਕ ਪਾਇ ਠਾਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੫॥

eik paae tthaadt abhang |275|

He thought that this man was not caring for cold or hot weather and there is no desire of some shade in his mind he was standing on one foot without even slightly turning his limbs.275.

ਢਿਗ ਦਤ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਇ ॥

dtig dat taa ke jaae |

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਬਨਾਏ ॥

avilok taas banaae |

Dutt went near him and looked down upon him, learning. a bit

ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਨਿਰਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥

adh raatr nirajan traas |

ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਠਾਢ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੬॥

as leen tthaadt udaas |276|

He was standing detachedly in that desolate atmosphere at midnighgt.276.

ਬਰਖੰਤ ਮੇਘ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

barakhant megh mahaan |

ਭਾਜੰਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

bhaajant bhoom nidhaan |

It was raining and the water was spreading on the earth

ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵ ਸਰਬ ਸੁ ਭਾਸ ॥

jag jeev sarab su bhaas |

ਉਠਿ ਭਾਜ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੭॥

autth bhaaj traas udaas |277|

All the beings of the world ran away in fear.277.

ਇਹ ਠਾਢ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਉਰ ॥

eih tthaadt bhoopat paur |

ਮਨ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪਤ ਗਉਰ ॥

man jaap jaapat gaur |

This orderly was standing at the gate of the king like this and was repeating the name of the goddess Gauri-Parvati in his mind

ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਮੋਰਤ ਅੰਗ ॥

nahee naik morat ang |

ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਠਾਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੮॥

eik paav tthaadt abhang |278|

He was standing on one foot, without even slightly turning his limbs.278.

ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਕਰਾਲ ॥

as leen paan karaal |

ਚਮਕੰਤ ਉਜਲ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ॥

chamakant ujal jvaal |

A dreadful sword was shining in his hand like a flame of fire and

ਜਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ॥

jan kaahoo ko nahee mitr |

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ॥੨੭੯॥

eih bhaat param pavitr |279|

He was standing solemnly without seeming to have friendliness for anyone.279.

ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਉਚਾਵਤ ਪਾਉ ॥

nahee naik uchaavat paau |

ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਾਧਤ ਦਾਉ ॥

bahu bhaat saadhat daau |

He was not even raising his foot slightly and he was in the posture of playing trick in many ways

ਅਨਆਸ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਭਗਤ ॥

anaas bhoopat bhagat |

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਪਗਤ ॥੨੮੦॥

prabh ek hee ras pagat |280|

He was a devotee of the king dyed unswervingly in the love of the Lord.280.

ਜਲ ਪਰਤ ਮੂਸਲਧਾਰ ॥

jal parat moosaladhaar |

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲੇ ਨ ਓਟਿ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

grih le na ott duaar |

ਪਸੁ ਪਛ ਸਰਬਿ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥

pas pachh sarab disaan |

ਸਭ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਨ ॥੨੮੧॥

sabh des des sidhaan |281|

Because of heavy rain, all the animals and birds were going from various directions to their homes in order to take shelter.281.

ਇਹ ਠਾਢ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਆਸ ॥

eih tthaadt hai ik aas |

ਇਕ ਪਾਨ ਜਾਨ ਉਦਾਸ ॥

eik paan jaan udaas |

ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥

as leen paan prachandd |

ਅਤਿ ਤੇਜਵੰਤ ਅਖੰਡ ॥੨੮੨॥

at tejavant akhandd |282|

He was standing detachedly on one foot and taking his sword in one of his hands, he was looking extremely lustrous.282.

ਮਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵ ॥

man aan ko nahee bhaav |

ਇਕ ਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਵ ॥

eik dev ko chit chaav |

ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਐਸੇ ਠਾਢ ॥

eik paav aise tthaadt |

ਰਨ ਖੰਭ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਗਾਡ ॥੨੮੩॥

ran khanbh jaanuk gaadd |283|

There was no other idea in his mind except his master and he was standing on one foot like a column standing in the battlefield.283.

ਜਿਹ ਭੂਮਿ ਧਾਰਸ ਪਾਵ ॥

jih bhoom dhaaras paav |

ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਚਾਵ ॥

nahee naik fer uchaav |

Wherever he placed his foot, he firmly fixed it there

ਨਹੀ ਠਾਮ ਭੀਜਸ ਤਉਨ ॥

nahee tthaam bheejas taun |

ਅਵਲੋਕ ਭਇਓ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਉਨ ॥੨੮੪॥

avalok bheo mun maun |284|

At his place, he was not getting wet and seeing him the sage Dutt kept silent.284.

ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਮੁਨੇਸ ॥

avalok taas munes |

ਅਕਲੰਕ ਭਾਗਵਿ ਭੇਸ ॥

akalank bhaagav bhes |

The sage saw him and he seemed to him like a part of a blemishless moon

ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਰੀਆ ਪਾਇ ॥

gur jaan pareea paae |

ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਸਚਾਇ ॥੨੮੫॥

taj laaj saaj sachaae |285|

The sage abandoning his shyness and accepting him as his Guru, fell at his feet.285.

ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

tih jaan kai guradev |

ਅਕਲੰਕ ਦਤ ਅਭੇਵ ॥

akalank dat abhev |

ਚਿਤ ਤਾਸ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਨ ॥

chit taas ke ras bheen |

ਗੁਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਉਦਸਮੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਨ ॥੨੮੬॥

gur traudasamo tih keen |286|

The blemishless Dutt, accepting him as his Guru, absorbed his mind in his love and in this way adopted him as the Thirteenth Guru.286.

ਇਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਉਦਸਮੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੧੩॥

Fourth House, Sorat'h:

ਪਾੜ ਪੜੋਸਣਿ ਪੂਛਿ ਲੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਕਾ ਪਹਿ ਛਾਨਿ ਛਵਾਈ ਹੋ ॥

paarr parrosan poochh le naamaa kaa peh chhaan chhavaaee ho |

The woman next door asked Naam Dayv, "Who built your house?

ਤੋ ਪਹਿ ਦੁਗਣੀ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਦੈਹਉ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਬੇਢੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਈ ਹੋ ॥੧॥

to peh duganee majooree daihau mo kau bedtee dehu bataaee ho |1|

I shall pay him double wages. Tell me, who is your carpenter?" ||1||

ਰੀ ਬਾਈ ਬੇਢੀ ਦੇਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

ree baaee bedtee den na jaaee |

O sister, I cannot give this carpenter to you.

ਦੇਖੁ ਬੇਢੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

dekh bedtee rahio samaaee |

Behold, my carpenter is pervading everywhere.

ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬੇਢੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hamaarai bedtee praan adhaaraa |1| rahaau |

My carpenter is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||

ਬੇਢੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਊ ਛਾਨਿ ਛਵਾਵੈ ਹੋ ॥

bedtee preet majooree maangai jau koaoo chhaan chhavaavai ho |

This carpenter demands the wages of love, if someone wants Him to build their house.

ਲੋਗ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਭਹੁ ਤੇ ਤੋਰੈ ਤਉ ਆਪਨ ਬੇਢੀ ਆਵੈ ਹੋ ॥੨॥

log kuttanb sabhahu te torai tau aapan bedtee aavai ho |2|

When one breaks his ties with all the people and relatives, then the carpenter comes of His own accord. ||2||

ਐਸੋ ਬੇਢੀ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰ ਸਭ ਠਾਂਈ ਹੋ ॥

aiso bedtee baran na saakau sabh antar sabh tthaanee ho |

I cannot describe such a carpenter, who is contained in everything, everywhere.

ਗੂੰਗੈ ਮਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਪੂਛੇ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੋ ॥੩॥

goongai mahaa amrit ras chaakhiaa poochhe kehan na jaaee ho |3|

The mute tastes the most sublime ambrosial nectar, but if you ask him to describe it, he cannot. ||3||

ਬੇਢੀ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਨਿ ਰੀ ਬਾਈ ਜਲਧਿ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਥਾਪਿਓ ਹੋ ॥

bedtee ke gun sun ree baaee jaladh baandh dhraoo thaapio ho |

Listen to the virtues of this carpenter, O sister; He stopped the oceans, and established Dhroo as the pole star.

ਨਾਮੇ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੀਅ ਬਹੋਰੀ ਲੰਕ ਭਭੀਖਣ ਆਪਿਓ ਹੋ ॥੪॥੨॥

naame ke suaamee seea bahoree lank bhabheekhan aapio ho |4|2|

Naam Dayv's Lord Master brought Sita back, and gave Sri Lanka to Bhabheekhan. ||4||2||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥

Sorat'h, Third House:

ਅਣਮੜਿਆ ਮੰਦਲੁ ਬਾਜੈ ॥

anamarriaa mandal baajai |

The skinless drum plays.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਵਣ ਘਨਹਰੁ ਗਾਜੈ ॥

bin saavan ghanahar gaajai |

Without the rainy season, the clouds shake with thunder.

ਬਾਦਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਰਖਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

baadal bin barakhaa hoee |

Without clouds, the rain falls,

ਜਉ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥

jau tat bichaarai koee |1|

if one contemplates the essence of reality. ||1||

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥

mo kau milio raam sanehee |

I have met my Beloved Lord.

ਜਿਹ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਦੇਹ ਸੁਦੇਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jih miliai deh sudehee |1| rahaau |

Meeting with Him, my body is made beauteous and sublime. ||1||Pause||

ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਇਆ ॥

mil paaras kanchan hoeaa |

Touching the philosopher's stone, I have been transformed into gold.

ਮੁਖ ਮਨਸਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰੋਇਆ ॥

mukh manasaa ratan paroeaa |

I have threaded the jewels into my mouth and mind.

ਨਿਜ ਭਾਉ ਭਇਆ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥

nij bhaau bheaa bhram bhaagaa |

I love Him as my own, and my doubt has been dispelled.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਗਾ ॥੨॥

gur poochhe man pateeaagaa |2|

Seeking the Guru's guidance, my mind is content. ||2||

ਜਲ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਕੁੰਭ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

jal bheetar kunbh samaaniaa |

The water is contained within the pitcher;

ਸਭ ਰਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

sabh raam ek kar jaaniaa |

I know that the One Lord is contained in all.

ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

gur chele hai man maaniaa |

The mind of the disciple has faith in the Guru.

ਜਨ ਨਾਮੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥੩॥

jan naamai tat pachhaaniaa |3|3|

Servant Naam Dayv understands the essence of reality. ||3||3||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜਬ ਹਮ ਹੋਤੇ ਤਬ ਤੂ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਬ ਤੂਹੀ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

jab ham hote tab too naahee ab toohee mai naahee |

When I am in my ego, then You are not with me. Now that You are with me, there is no egotism within me.

ਅਨਲ ਅਗਮ ਜੈਸੇ ਲਹਰਿ ਮਇ ਓਦਧਿ ਜਲ ਕੇਵਲ ਜਲ ਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥

anal agam jaise lehar me odadh jal keval jal maanhee |1|

The wind may raise up huge waves in the vast ocean, but they are just water in water. ||1||

ਮਾਧਵੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਐਸਾ ॥

maadhave kiaa kaheeai bhram aisaa |

O Lord, what can I say about such an illusion?

ਜੈਸਾ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਤੈਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jaisaa maaneeai hoe na taisaa |1| rahaau |

Things are not as they seem. ||1||Pause||

ਨਰਪਤਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨਿ ਸੋਇਆ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਭਇਆ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ॥

narapat ek singhaasan soeaa supane bheaa bhikhaaree |

It is like the king, who falls asleep upon his throne, and dreams that he is a beggar.

ਅਛਤ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਗਤਿ ਭਈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

achhat raaj bichhurat dukh paaeaa so gat bhee hamaaree |2|

His kingdom is intact, but separated from it, he suffers in sorrow. Such is my own condition. ||2||

ਰਾਜ ਭੁਇਅੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਹਿ ਅਬ ਕਛੁ ਮਰਮੁ ਜਨਾਇਆ ॥

raaj bhueiang prasang jaise heh ab kachh maram janaaeaa |

Like the story of the rope mistaken for a snake, the mystery has now been explained to me.

ਅਨਿਕ ਕਟਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਲਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਬ ਕਹਤੇ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥

anik kattak jaise bhool pare ab kahate kehan na aaeaa |3|

Like the many bracelets, which I mistakenly thought were gold; now, I do not say what I said then. ||3||

ਸਰਬੇ ਏਕੁ ਅਨੇਕੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਭੋੁਗਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

sarabe ek anekai suaamee sabh ghatt bhougavai soee |

The One Lord is pervading the many forms; He enjoys Himself in all hearts.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਹਾਥ ਪੈ ਨੇਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

keh ravidaas haath pai nerai sahaje hoe su hoee |4|1|

Says Ravi Daas, the Lord is nearer than our own hands and feet. Whatever will be, will be. ||4||1||
