Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sunahu binantee tthaakur mere jeea jant tere dhaare |
Hear my prayer, O my Lord and Master; all beings and creatures were created by You.
ਰਾਖੁ ਪੈਜ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
raakh paij naam apune kee karan karaavanahaare |1|
You preserve the honor of Your Name, O Lord, Cause of causes. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਖਸਮਾਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
prabh jeeo khasamaanaa kar piaare |
O Dear God, Beloved, please, make me Your own.
ਬੁਰੇ ਭਲੇ ਹਮ ਥਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bure bhale ham thaare | rahaau |
Whether good or bad, I am Yours. ||Pause||
ਸੁਣੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sunee pukaar samarath suaamee bandhan kaatt savaare |
The Almighty Lord and Master heard my prayer; cutting away my bonds, He has adorned me.
ਪਹਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਨ ਮੇਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੨੯॥੯੩॥
pahir sirapaau sevak jan mele naanak pragatt pahaare |2|29|93|
He dressed me in robes of honor, and blended His servant with Himself; Nanak is revealed in glory throughout the world. ||2||29||93||

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਭਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
jeea jant sabh vas kar deene sevak sabh darabaare |
All beings and creatures are subservient to all those who serve in the Lord's Court.
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
angeekaar keeo prabh apune bhav nidh paar utaare |1|
Their God made them His own, and carried them across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
santan ke kaaraj sagal savaare |
He resolves all the affairs of His Saints.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen deaal kripaal kripaa nidh pooran khasam hamaare | rahaau |
He is merciful to the meek, kind and compassionate, the ocean of kindness, my Perfect Lord and Master. ||Pause||
ਆਉ ਬੈਠੁ ਆਦਰੁ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
aau baitth aadar sabh thaaee aoon na katahoon baataa |
I am asked to come and be seated, everywhere I go, and I lack nothing.
ਭਗਤਿ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਦੀਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥੯੪॥
bhagat sirapaau deeo jan apune prataap naanak prabh jaataa |2|30|94|
The Lord blesses His humble devotee with robes of honor; O Nanak, the Glory of God is manifest. ||2||30||94||

Sorat'h, Ninth Mehl:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
re man raam siau kar preet |
O mind, love the Lord.
ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨੁ ਸੁਨਉ ਅਰੁ ਗਾਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sravan gobind gun sunau ar gaau rasanaa geet |1| rahaau |
With your ears, hear the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and with your tongue, sing His song. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਮਰੁ ਮਾਧੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
kar saadhasangat simar maadho hohi patit puneet |
Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meditate in remembrance on the Lord; even a sinner like yourself will become pure.
ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਲੁ ਜਿਉ ਪਰਿਓ ਡੋਲੈ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥
kaal biaal jiau pario ddolai mukh pasaare meet |1|
Death is on the prowl, with its mouth wide open, friend. ||1||
ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
aaj kaal fun tohi gras hai samajh raakhau cheet |
Today or tomorrow, eventually it will seize you; understand this in your consciousness.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਤੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬੀਤ ॥੨॥੧॥
kahai naanak raam bhaj lai jaat aausar beet |2|1|
Says Nanak, meditate, and vibrate upon the Lord; this opportunity is slipping away! ||2||1||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥

Sorat'h, Ninth Mehl:
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
man kee man hee maeh rahee |
The mind remains in the mind.
ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naa har bhaje na teerath seve chottee kaal gahee |1| rahaau |
He does not meditate on the Lord, nor does he perform service at sacred shrines, and so death seizes him by the hair. ||1||Pause||
ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਰਥ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਧਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਮਹੀ ॥
daaraa meet poot rath sanpat dhan pooran sabh mahee |
Wife, friends, children, carriages, property, total wealth, the entire world
ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥
avar sagal mithiaa e jaanau bhajan raam ko sahee |1|
- know that all of these things are false. The Lord's meditation alone is true. ||1||
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਲਹੀ ॥
firat firat bahute jug haario maanas deh lahee |
Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
naanak kehat milan kee bareea simarat kahaa nahee |2|2|
Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥

Sorat'h, Ninth Mehl:
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਤੈ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
man re kaun kumat tai leenee |
O mind, what evil-mindedness have you developed?
ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਰਸ ਰਚਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
par daaraa nindiaa ras rachio raam bhagat neh keenee |1| rahaau |
You are engrossed in the pleasures of other men's wives, and slander; you have not worshipped the Lord at all. ||1||Pause||
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪੰਥੁ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਤੈ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਧਨ ਜੋਰਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
mukat panth jaanio tai naahan dhan joran kau dhaaeaa |
You do not know the way to liberation, but you run all around chasing wealth.
ਅੰਤਿ ਸੰਗ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ant sang kaahoo nahee deenaa birathaa aap bandhaaeaa |1|
In the end, nothing shall go along with you; you have entrapped yourself in vain. ||1||
ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿਓ ਨ ਗੁਰ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਨਹ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਕਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
naa har bhajio na gur jan sevio neh upajio kachh giaanaa |
You have not meditated or vibrated upon the Lord; you have not served the Guru, or His humble servants; spiritual wisdom has not welled up within you.
ਘਟ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਤੈ ਖੋਜਤ ਉਦਿਆਨਾ ॥੨॥
ghatt hee maeh niranjan terai tai khojat udiaanaa |2|
The Immaculate Lord is within your heart, and yet you search for Him in the wilderness. ||2||
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮਤ ਤੈ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
bahut janam bharamat tai haario asathir mat nahee paaee |
You have wandered through many many births; you are exhausted but have still not found a way out of this endless cycle.
ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਇ ਪਦ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥
maanas deh paae pad har bhaj naanak baat bataaee |3|3|
Now that you have obtained this human body, meditate on the Lord's Feet; Nanak advises with this advice. ||3||3||
