ਇਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਰਘੁਰਾਜ ਕੀਨ ॥
eihu bhaat raaj raghuraaj keen |
ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਦੀਨਾਨ ਦੀਨ ॥
gaj baaj saaj deenaan deen |
The king Raghu ruled in this way and gave in charity the elephants and horses to the poor
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਿਨੇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
nrip jeet jeet line apaar |
ਕਰਿ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡੇ ਗੜਵਾਰ ॥੧੭੭॥

He conquered many kings and shattered many forts.177.

ਫੁਨਿ ਭਏ ਰਾਜ ਅਜਰਾਜ ਬੀਰ ॥
fun bhe raaj ajaraaj beer |
ਜਿਨਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਜਿਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਰ ॥
jin bhaat bhaat jite prabeer |
Then there ruled the great and powerful king Aj, who destroyed several clans after conquering many heroes
ਕਿਨੇ ਖਰਾਬ ਖਾਨੇ ਖਵਾਸ ॥
kine kharaab khaane khavaas |
ਜਿਤੇ ਮਹੀਪ ਤੋਰੇ ਮਵਾਸ ॥੧॥

He also conquered the rebellious kings.1.
ਜਿਤੇ ਅਜੀਤ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਅਮੁੰਡ ॥

ਖੰਡੇ ਅਖੰਡ ਕਿਨੇ ਘਮੰਡ ॥

He conquered many invincible kings and shattered the pride of many egoistic kings
ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

ਅਜਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਹਾਨ ॥੨॥

The great king Aj was the ocean of fourteen sciences.2.
ਸੂਰਾ ਸੁਬਾਹ ਜੋਧਾ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥
sooraa subaah jodhaa prachandd |
ਸ੍ਰੁਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਉਦੰਡ ॥
srut sarab saasatr bidiaa udandd |
That king was a powerful warrior and expert in the study of Shrutis (Vedas) and Shastras
ਮਾਨੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
maanee mahaan sundar saroop |
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਲਾਜੰਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੩॥
avilok jaas laajant bhoop |3|
That great king was full of self-pride and had a very charming face, seeing which all the kings felt shy.3.
ਰਾਜਾਨ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜਾਧਿਰਾਜ ॥
raajaan raaj raajaadhiraaj |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭਰੇ ਸਰਬ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸਮਾਜ ॥
grih bhare sarab sanpat samaaj |
That Sovereign was king of kings and in his kingdom, all the houses were full of wealth
ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਰੂਪ ਰੀਝੰਤ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
avilok roop reejhant naar |
ਸ੍ਰੁਤਿ ਦਾਨ ਸੀਲ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਉਦਾਰ ॥੪॥
srut daan seel bidiaa udaar |4|
The women were allured on seeing his beauty and he was the knower of the mysteries of the Vedas he was a great donor, skilful in sciences and a very gentle king.4.
ਜੌ ਕਹੋ ਕਥਾ ਬਾਢੰਤ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ॥
jau kaho kathaa baadtant granth |
ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਛੇਪ ਕੰਥ ॥
sun lehu mitr sanchhep kanth |
If I relate the whole story, I fear the Granth to become voluminous
ਬੈਦਰਭ ਦੇਸਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਬਾਹ ॥

ਚੰਪਾਵਤੀ ਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੫॥

Therefore, O friend! listen this story only in brief there was a king named Subahu in Vidrabha country, the name of whose queen was Champavati.5.
ਤਿਹ ਜਈ ਏਕ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

ਤਿਹ ਮਤੀਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਦਾਰ ॥

She gave birth to a daughter, whose name was Indumati
ਜਬ ਭਈ ਜੋਗ ਬਰ ਕੇ ਕੁਮਾਰਿ ॥
jab bhee jog bar ke kumaar |
ਤਬ ਕੀਨ ਬੈਠਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
tab keen baitth raajaa bichaar |6|
When she attained the marriageable age, the king then consulted his ministers.6.
ਲਿਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਰਬ ਦੇਸ ॥

ਧਾਏ ਸੁਬਾਹ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਅਸੇਸ ॥
dhaae subaah lai dal ases |
The king invited the kings of all the countries, who came to the kingdom of Subahu with their armies
ਮੁਖ ਭਈ ਆਨਿ ਸਰਸ੍ਵਤੀ ਆਪੁ ॥
mukh bhee aan sarasvatee aap |
ਜਿਹਿ ਜਪਤ ਲੋਗ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਰਬ ਜਾਪੁ ॥੭॥
jihi japat log mil sarab jaap |7|
The adorable goddess Sarasvati came to reside in the mouths of all them and all of them with the desire of marrying that girl, offered prayers alongwith
ਤਬ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਕੇ ਭੂਪ ਆਨਿ ॥
tab des des ke bhoop aan |
ਕਿਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਹਾਨਿ ॥
kino pranaam raajaa mahaan |
All the kings of various countries came and bowed before that king Subahu nad sat in the assembly
ਤਹ ਬੈਠਿ ਰਾਜ ਸੋਭੰਤ ਐਸੁ ॥
teh baitth raaj sobhant ais |
ਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਸਮ ਨ ਤੈਸੁ ॥੮॥
jan dev manddalee sam na tais |8|
, Where their glory excelled that of the assembly of gods.8.
ਬਾਜੰਤ ਢੋਲ ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

ਬਾਜੰਤ ਤੂਰ ਝਨਕੰਤ ਤਾਰ ॥

The small and big drums were resounding
ਸੋਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਬਰਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sobhaa apaar baranee na jaae |
ਜਨੁ ਬੈਠਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਭਾ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੯॥
jan baitth indr aabhaa banaae |9|
The glory of that place is indescribable all of them appeared to be like Indra.9.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਾਜ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਬੈਠਿ ॥

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਜਹ ਨਾਕ ਐਠਿ ॥
avilok indr jeh naak aitth |
That royal assembly was such that seeing it, Indra shrunk his nose, who should describe its glory?
ਆਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਬਰਨੇ ਸੁ ਕਉਨ ॥
aabhaa apaar barane su kaun |
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹੇ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਮਉਨ ॥੧੦॥
hvai rahe jachh gandhrab maun |10|
The Gandharvas and Yakshas kept silent on seeing it.10.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਪਰੋਇਆ ॥
har naam ridai paroeaa |
I have woven the Lord's Name into the fabric of my heart.
ਸਭੁ ਕਾਜੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ ॥
sabh kaaj hamaaraa hoeaa |
All my affairs are resolved.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
prabh charanee man laagaa |
His mind is attached to God's feet,
ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
pooran jaa ke bhaagaa |1|
whose destiny is perfect. ||1||
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
mil saadhasang har dhiaaeaa |
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I meditate on the Lord.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਰਾਧਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aatth pehar araadhio har har man chindiaa fal paaeaa | rahaau |
Twenty-four hours a day, I worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har; I have obtained the fruits of my mind's desires. ||Pause||
ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਅੰਕੁਰੁ ਜਾਗਿਆ ॥
paraa poorabalaa ankur jaagiaa |
The seeds of my past actions have sprouted.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਿਆ ॥
raam naam man laagiaa |
My mind is attached to the Lord's Name.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
man tan har daras samaavai |
My mind and body are absorbed into the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੮॥੭੨॥

Meeting with the Guru, I contemplate God.
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
kaaraj sabh savaariaa |
All of my affairs have been resolved.
ਮੰਦਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਅਲਾਏ ॥
mandaa ko na alaae |
No one speaks ill of me.
ਸਭ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੧॥
sabh jai jai kaar sunaae |1|
Everyone congratulates me on my victory. ||1||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
santahu saachee saran suaamee |
O Saints, I seek the True Sanctuary of the Lord and Master.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕੈ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeea jant sabh haath tisai kai so prabh antarajaamee | rahaau |
All beings and creatures are in His hands; He is God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||Pause||
ਕਰਤਬ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
karatab sabh savaare |
He has resolved all of my affairs.
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥
prabh apunaa birad samaare |
God has confirmed His innate nature.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
patit paavan prabh naamaa |
God's Name is the Purifier of sinners.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੯॥੭੩॥
jan naanak sad kurabaanaa |2|9|73|
Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||9||73||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

The Supreme Lord God created and embellished him.
ਇਹੁ ਲਹੁੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
eihu lahurraa guroo ubaariaa |
The Guru has saved this small child.
ਅਨਦ ਕਰਹੁ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
anad karahu pit maataa |
So celebrate and be happy, father and mother.
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
paramesar jeea kaa daataa |1|
The Transcendent Lord is the Giver of souls. ||1||
ਸੁਭ ਚਿਤਵਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
subh chitavan daas tumaare |
Your slaves, O Lord, focus on pure thoughts.
ਰਾਖਹਿ ਪੈਜ ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakheh paij daas apune kee kaaraj aap savaare | rahaau |
You preserve the honor of Your slaves, and You Yourself arrange their affairs. ||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥
meraa prabh praupakaaree |
My God is so benevolent.
ਪੂਰਨ ਕਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
pooran kal jin dhaaree |
His Almighty Power is manifest.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
naanak saranee aaeaa |
Nanak has come to His Sanctuary.
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੭੪॥
man chindiaa fal paaeaa |2|10|74|
He has obtained the fruits of his mind's desires. ||2||10||74||

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੇ ॥
sadaa sadaa har jaape |
Forever and ever, I chant the Lord's Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਲਕ ਰਾਖੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
prabh baalak raakhe aape |
God Himself has saved my child.
ਸੀਤਲਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਈ ॥
seetalaa tthaak rahaaee |
He healed him from the smallpox.
ਬਿਘਨ ਗਏ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥੧॥
bighan ge har naaee |1|
My troubles have been removed through the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
meraa prabh hoaa sadaa deaalaa |
My God is forever Merciful.
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਭਗਤ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਭਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aradaas sunee bhagat apune kee sabh jeea bheaa kirapaalaa | rahaau |
He heard the prayer of His devotee, and now all beings are kind and compassionate to him. ||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਾਥਾ ॥
prabh karan kaaran samaraathaa |
God is Almighty, the Cause of causes.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥
har simarat sabh dukh laathaa |
Remembering the Lord in meditation, all pains and sorrows vanish.
ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥
apane daas kee sunee benantee |
He has heard the prayer of His slave.
ਸਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵੰਤੀ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੭੫॥
sabh naanak sukh savantee |2|11|75|
O Nanak, now everyone sleeps in peace. ||2||11||75||

ਅਪਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
apanaa guroo dhiaae |
I meditated on my Guru.
ਮਿਲਿ ਕੁਸਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
mil kusal setee ghar aae |
I met with Him, and returned home in joy.
ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
naamai kee vaddiaaee |
This is the glorious greatness of the Naam.
ਤਿਸੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
tis keemat kehan na jaaee |1|
Its value cannot be estimated. ||1||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ॥
santahu har har har aaraadhahu |
O Saints, worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਸਭੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਧਹੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har aaraadh sabho kichh paaeeai kaaraj sagale saadhahu | rahaau |
Worship the Lord in adoration, and you shall obtain everything; your affairs shall all be resolved. ||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
prem bhagat prabh laagee |
He alone is attached in loving devotion to God,
ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
so paae jis vaddabhaagee |
who realizes his great destiny.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
jan naanak naam dhiaaeaa |
Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੭੬॥
tin sarab sukhaa fal paaeaa |2|12|76|
He obtains the rewards of all joys and peace. ||2||12||76||

ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਬੰਨਾ ॥

The Transcendent Lord has given me His support.
ਦੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਭੰਨਾ ॥
dukh rog kaa dderaa bhanaa |
The house of pain and disease has been demolished.
ਅਨਦ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
anad kareh nar naaree |
The men and women celebrate.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
har har prabh kirapaa dhaaree |1|
The Lord God, Har, Har, has extended His Mercy. ||1||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥
santahu sukh hoaa sabh thaaee |
O Saints, there is peace everywhere.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paarabraham pooran paramesar rav rahiaa sabhanee jaaee | rahaau |
The Supreme Lord God, the Perfect Transcendent Lord, is pervading everywhere. ||Pause||
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਈ ॥
dhur kee baanee aaee |
The Bani of His Word emanated from the Primal Lord.
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
tin sagalee chint mittaaee |
It eradicates all anxiety.
ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
deaal purakh miharavaanaa |
The Lord is merciful, kind and compassionate.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੭੭॥
har naanak saach vakhaanaa |2|13|77|
