CHHAPI STANZA

ਲਏ ਸੰਗ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਰਬ ਬਜੇ ਬਿਜਈ ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਰਣ ॥

le sang nrip sarab baje bijee dundabh ran |

The king took all alongwith him and the drums of victory sounded

ਸੁਭੇ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੀਝਈ ਅਪਛਰ ਗਣ ॥

subhe soor sangraam nirakh reejhee apachhar gan |

The warriors gathered in the battlefield and seeing them, the heavenly damsels were allured

ਛਕੇ ਦੇਵ ਆਦੇਵ ਜਕੇ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਜਛ ਬਰ ॥

chhake dev aadev jake gandharab jachh bar |

The gods, demons and Gandharvas all were filled with wonder and pleased

ਚਕੇ ਭੂਤ ਅਰੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਸਰਬ ਬਿਦਿਆਧਰ ਨਰ ਬਰ ॥

chake bhoot ar pret sarab bidiaadhar nar bar |

All ghosts, fiends and superb Vidyadharis wondered

ਖੰਕੜੀਯ ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੀਯ ॥

khankarreey kaal kraooraa prabhaa bahu prakaar usatat kareey |

Kalki (Lord) thundered as a manifestation of KAL (death) and he was eulogized in various ways

ਖੰਡਨ ਅਖੰਡ ਚੰਡੀ ਮਹਾ ਜਯ ਜ੍ਰਯ ਜ੍ਰਯ ਸਬਦੋਚਰੀਯ ॥੫੪੨॥

khanddan akhandd chanddee mahaa jay jray jray sabadochareey |542|

The destroyer of invincible warriors like Chandika, the Lord Kalki was being hailed.542.

ਭਿੜਿਯ ਭੇੜ ਲੜਖੜਿਯ ਮੇਰੁ ਝੜਪੜਿਯ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਬਣ ॥

bhirriy bherr larrakharriy mer jharraparriy patr ban |

The armies fought with each other, the Sumeru mountain trembled, and the leaves of the forest quivered and fell

ਡੁਲਿਯ ਇੰਦੁ ਤੜਫੜ ਫਨਿੰਦ ਸੰਕੁੜਿਯ ਦ੍ਰਵਣ ਗਣ ॥

dduliy ind tarrafarr fanind sankurriy dravan gan |

Indra and Sheshnaga writhed on becoming agitated

ਚਕਿਯੋ ਗਇੰਦ ਧਧਕਯ ਚੰਦ ਭੰਭਜਿਗ ਦਿਵਾਕਰ ॥

chakiyo geind dhadhakay chand bhanbhajig divaakar |

Ganas and others shrunk with fear, the elephants of he directions wondered

ਡੁਲਗ ਸੁਮੇਰੁ ਡਗਗ ਕੁਮੇਰ ਸਭ ਸੁਕਗ ਸਾਇਰ ॥

ddulag sumer ddagag kumer sabh sukag saaeir |

The moon was frightened and the sun ran hither and thither, the Sumeru mountain wavered, the Tortoise became unsteady and all the oceans dried up in fear

ਤਤਜਗ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਤਬ ਧੂਰਜਟੀ ਸਹਿ ਨ ਭਾਰ ਸਕਗ ਥਿਰਾ ॥

tatajag dhayaan tab dhoorajattee seh na bhaar sakag thiraa |

The meditation of Shiva was shattered and the burden on the earth could not remain in equilibrium

ਉਛਲਗ ਨੀਰ ਪਛੁਲਗ ਪਵਨ ਸੁ ਡਗ ਡਗ ਡਗ ਕੰਪਗੁ ਧਰਾ ॥੫੪੩॥

auchhalag neer pachhulag pavan su ddag ddag ddag kanpag dharaa |543|

The water sprang up, the wind flowed and the earth staggered and trembled.543.

ਚਲਗੁ ਬਾਣੁ ਰੁਕਿਗ ਦਿਸਾਣ ਪਬ੍ਰਯ ਪਿਸਾਨ ਹੂਅ ॥

chalag baan rukig disaan pabray pisaan hooa |

With the discharge of arrows, the directions were covered and the mountains were pulverized

ਡਿਗਗੁ ਬਿੰਧ ਉਛਲਗੁ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕੰਪਗੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਧੂਅ ॥

ddigag bindh uchhalag sindh kanpag sun mun dhooa |

Of war, the sage Dhruva trembled

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੇਦ ਤਜ ਭਜਗੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਤਜਗੁ ॥

braham bed taj bhajag indr indraasan tajag |

Brahma abandoned the Vedas and ran away, the elephants fled and Indra also left his seat

ਜਦਿਨ ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਕਲਕੀਵਤਾਰ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਤ ਰਣਿ ਗਜਗੁ ॥

jadin kraoor kalakeevataar krudhat ran gajag |

The day on which the Kalki incarnation, thundered in rage in the battlefield

ਉਛਰੰਤ ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਜਨ ਖੁਰੀਯ ਸਬ ਅਕਾਸ ਮਗੁ ਛਾਇ ਲੀਅ ॥

auchharant dhoor baajan khureey sab akaas mag chhaae leea |

On that day, the dust of the hoofs of the horses, springing up, covered the whole of the sky

ਜਣੁ ਰਚੀਯ ਲੋਕ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਹਰਿ ਅਸਟਕਾਸ ਖਟੁ ਧਰਣਿ ਕੀਅ ॥੫੪੪॥

jan racheey lok kar kop har asattakaas khatt dharan keea |544|

It seemed that in his rage the Lord had created the additional eight skies and six earths.544.

ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਚਾਰੁ ਚਕ੍ਰਵੇ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਿਰ ਸਹੰਸ ਸੇਸ ਫਣ ॥

chakrit chaar chakrave chakrit sir sahans ses fan |

On all the four sides, all including Sheshnaga are wondering

ਧਕਤ ਮਛ ਮਾਵਾਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਰਣ ਭਜਗ ਦ੍ਰਵਣ ਗਣ ॥

dhakat machh maavaas chhodd ran bhajag dravan gan |

The heats of the fish also throbbed, the ganas and others ran away from the war-arena

ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਕਾਕ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਅ ਗਿਧ ਉਧਹੂੰ ਲੇ ਉਡੀਯ ॥

bhramat kaak kunddaleea gidh udhahoon le uddeey |

ਬਮਤ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਖੰਕਾਲਿ ਲੁਥ ਹਥੋਂ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟੀਯ ॥

bamat jvaal khankaal luth hathon nahee chhutteey |

The crows and vultures violently hovered over the corpses and Shiva, the manifestation of KAL (death), is shouting in the battlefield, without dropping the dead from his hands

ਟੁਟੰਤ ਟੋਪ ਫੁਟੰਤ ਜਿਰਹ ਦਸਤਰਾਗ ਪਖਰ ਤੁਰੀਯ ॥

ttuttant ttop futtant jirah dasataraag pakhar tureey |

ਭਜੰਤ ਭੀਰ ਰਿਝੰਤ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸੂਰ ਹੂਰੈਂ ਫਿਰੀਯ ॥੫੪੫॥

bhajant bheer rijhant man nirakh soor hoorain fireey |545|

The helmets are breaking, the armours are being torn and the armoured horses are also getting frightened the cowards are running away and the warriors seeing the heavenly damsels are getting allured by them.545.

Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੈ ॥

aape hee sabh aap hai piaaraa aape thaap uthaapai |

He Himself, the Beloved, is Himself all-in-all; He Himself establishes and disestablishes.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਜ ਵੇਖੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥

aape vekh vigasadaa piaaraa kar choj vekhai prabh aapai |

The Beloved Himself beholds, and rejoices; God Himself works wonders, and beholds them.

ਆਪੇ ਵਣਿ ਤਿਣਿ ਸਭਤੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥

aape van tin sabhat hai piaaraa aape guramukh jaapai |1|

The Beloved Himself is contained in all the woods and meadows; as Gurmukh, He reveals Himself. ||1||

ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥

jap man har har naam ras dhraapai |

Meditate, O mind, on the Lord, Har, Har; through the sublime essence of Lord's Name, you shall be satisfied.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਚਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

amrit naam mahaa ras meetthaa gurasabadee chakh jaapai | rahaau |

The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, is the sweetest juice; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, its taste is revealed. ||Pause||

ਆਪੇ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥

aape teerath tulaharraa piaaraa aap tarai prabh aapai |

The Beloved is Himself the place of pilgrimage and the raft; God Himself ferries Himself across.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲੁ ਵਤਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੈ ॥

aape jaal vataaeidaa piaaraa sabh jag machhulee har aapai |

The Beloved Himself casts the net over all the world; the Lord Himself is the fish.

ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲਈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥

aap abhul na bhulee piaaraa avar na doojaa jaapai |2|

The Beloved Himself is infallible; He makes no mistakes. There is no other like Him to be seen. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ਆਪੈ ॥

aape singee naad hai piaaraa dhun aap vajaae aapai |

The Beloved Himself is the Yogi's horn, and the sound current of the Naad; He Himself plays the tune.

ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪੈ ॥

aape jogee purakh hai piaaraa aape hee tap taapai |

The Beloved Himself is the Yogi, the Primal Being; He Himself practices intense meditation.

ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਚੇਲਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥੩॥

aape satigur aap hai chelaa upades karai prabh aapai |3|

He Himself is the True Guru, and He Himself is the disciple; God Himself imparts the Teachings. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਨਾਉ ਜਪਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

aape naau japaaeidaa piaaraa aape hee jap jaapai |

The Beloved Himself inspires us to chant His Name, and He Himself practices meditation.

ਆਪੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਸੁ ਆਪੈ ॥

aape amrit aap hai piaaraa aape hee ras aapai |

The Beloved Himself is the Ambrosial Nectar; He Himself is the juice of it.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਲਾਹਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥੪॥੩॥

aape aap salaahadaa piaaraa jan naanak har ras dhraapai |4|3|

The Beloved Himself praises Himself; servant Nanak is satisfied, with the sublime essence of the Lord. ||4||3||

ਆਪੇ ਕੰਡਾ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥

aape kanddaa aap taraajee prabh aape tol tolaaeaa |

God Himself is the balance scale, He Himself is the weigher, and He Himself weighs with the weights.

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥

aape saahu aape vanajaaraa aape vanaj karaaeaa |

He Himself is the banker, He Himself is the trader, and He Himself makes the trades.

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਟੰਕੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

aape dharatee saajeean piaarai pichhai ttank charraaeaa |1|

The Beloved Himself fashioned the world, and He Himself counter-balances it with a gram. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

mere man har har dhiaae sukh paaeaa |

My mind meditates on the Lord, Har, Har, and finds peace.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

har har naam nidhaan hai piaaraa gur poorai meetthaa laaeaa | rahaau |

The Name of the Beloved Lord, Har, Har, is a treasure; the Perfect Guru has made it seem sweet to me. ||Pause||

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥

aape dharatee aap jal piaaraa aape kare karaaeaa |

The Beloved Himself is the earth, and He Himself is the water; He Himself acts, and causes others to act.

ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਲੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥

aape hukam varatadaa piaaraa jal maattee bandh rakhaaeaa |

The Beloved Himself issues His Commands, and keeps the water and the land bound down.

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਭਉ ਪਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਬੰਨਿ ਬਕਰੀ ਸੀਹੁ ਹਢਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

aape hee bhau paaeidaa piaaraa ban bakaree seehu hadtaaeaa |2|

The Beloved Himself instills the Fear of God; He binds the tiger and the goat together. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਸਟ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥

aape kaasatt aap har piaaraa vich kaasatt agan rakhaaeaa |

The Beloved Lord Himself is the firewood, and He Himself keeps the fire within the wood.

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਭੈ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥

aape hee aap varatadaa piaaraa bhai agan na sakai jalaaeaa |

The Beloved Lord Himself, all by Himself, permeates them, and because of the Fear of God, the fire cannot burn the wood.

ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

aape maar jeevaaeidaa piaaraa saah laide sabh lavaaeaa |3|

The Beloved Himself kills and revives; all draw the breath of life, given by Him. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਤਾਣੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

aape taan deebaan hai piaaraa aape kaarai laaeaa |

The Beloved Himself is power and presence; He Himself engages us in our work.

ਜਿਉ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਤਿਉ ਚਲੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

jiau aap chalaae tiau chaleeai piaare jiau har prabh mere bhaaeaa |

As the Beloved makes me walk, I walk, as it pleases my Lord God.

ਆਪੇ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਜਹਿ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥

aape jantee jant hai piaaraa jan naanak vajeh vajaaeaa |4|4|

The Beloved Himself is the musician, and the musical instrument; servant Nanak vibrates His vibration. ||4||4||
