The hands have fought with hands, the young soldiers being chopped and the arrows, flying numerously are being planted in the bodies.213.

sachaa saudaa har naam hai sachaa vaapaaraa raam |

The True merchandise is the Lord's Name. This is the true trade.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣਜੀਐ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

guramatee har naam vanajeeai at mol afaaraa raam |

Under Guru's Instruction, we trade in the Lord's Name; its value is very great.

ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਸਚ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਸਚਿ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

at mol afaaraa sach vaapaaraa sach vaapaar lage vaddabhaagee |

The value of this true trade is very great; those who are engaged in the true trade are very fortunate.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

antar baahar bhagatee raate sach naam liv laagee |

Inwardly and outwardly, they are imbued with devotion, and they enshrine love for the True Name.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

nadar kare soee sach paae gur kai sabad veechaaraa |

One who is blessed with the Lord's Favor, obtains Truth, and reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

naanak naam rate tin hee sukh paaeaa saachai ke vaapaaraa |1|

O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Name find peace; they deal only in the True Name. ||1||

ਹੰਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥

hnaumai maaeaa mail hai maaeaa mail bhareejai raam |

Egotistical involvement in Maya is filth; Maya is overflowing with filth.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥

guramatee man niramalaa rasanaa har ras peejai raam |

Under Guru's Instruction, the mind is made pure and the tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

rasanaa har ras peejai antar bheejai saach sabad beechaaree |

The tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord, and deep within, the heart is drenched with His Love, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਖੂਹਟਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਪੀਐ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

antar khoohattaa amrit bhariaa sabade kaadt peeai panihaaree |

Deep within, the well of the heart is overflowing with the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar; the water-carrier draws and drinks in the water of the Shabad.

ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥

jis nadar kare soee sach laagai rasanaa raam raveejai |

One who is blessed with the Lord's favor is attuned to the Truth; with his tongue, he chants the Lord's Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥

naanak naam rate se niramal hor haumai mail bhareejai |2|

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are immaculate. The others are full of the filth of egotism. ||2||

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਸਭਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕੂਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

panddit jotakee sabh parr parr kookade kis peh kareh pukaaraa raam |

All the religious scholars and astrologers read and study, and argue and shout. Who are they trying to teach?

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

maaeaa mohu antar mal laagai maaeaa ke vaapaaraa raam |

The filth of attachment to Maya clings to their hearts; they deal in Maya alone.

ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥

maaeaa ke vaapaaraa jagat piaaraa aavan jaan dukh paaee |

They love to deal in Maya in this world; coming and going, they suffer in pain.

ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

bikh kaa keerraa bikh siau laagaa bisattaa maeh samaaee |

The worm of poison is addicted to poison; it is immersed in manure.

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

jo dhur likhiaa soe kamaavai koe na mettanahaaraa |

He does what is pre-ordained for him; no one can erase his destiny.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੂਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

naanak naam rate tin sadaa sukh paaeaa hor moorakh kook mue gaavaaraa |3|

O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, lasting peace is found; the ignorant fools die screaming. ||3||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥

maaeaa mohi man rangiaa mohi sudh na kaaee raam |

Their minds are colored by emotional attachment to Maya; because of this emotional attachment, they do not understand.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥

guramukh ihu man rangeeai doojaa rang jaaee raam |

The soul of the Gurmukh is imbued with the Lord's Love; the love of duality departs.

ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

doojaa rang jaaee saach samaaee sach bhare bhanddaaraa |

The love of duality departs, and the soul merges in Truth; the warehouse is overflowing with Truth.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

guramukh hovai soee boojhai sach savaaranahaaraa |

One who becomes Gurmukh, comes to understand; the Lord embellishes him with Truth.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

aape mele so har milai hor kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |

He alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord causes to merge; nothing else can be said or done.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥

naanak vin naavai bharam bhulaaeaa ik naam rate rang laae |4|5|

O Nanak, without the Name, one is deluded by doubt; but some, imbued with the Name, enshrine love for the Lord. ||4||5||
