ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਭਗਤ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਸੁਖ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਦਾ ਭਰੈ ॥
rudr bhagat jag maeh sukh ke divas sadaa bharai |
ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਫਲੁ ਕਛੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੋ ॥੨੪੫੬॥
marai fir aaveh jaeh fal kachh lahai na mukat ko |2456|
“The devotees of the Rudra always pass their life in the world comfortably, but they cannot attain salvation and always remain in transmigration.”2456.

SWAYYA
ਸੁਨ ਲੈ ਭਸਮਾਗਦ ਦੈਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਦ ਤੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sun lai bhasamaagad dait huto tih naarad te jab hee sun paayo |
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀ ਰੁਚਿ ਸੋ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਹਿ ਕੋ ਰਿਝਵਾਯੋ ॥
rudr kee sev karee ruch so bahute din rudreh ko rijhavaayo |
When the demon named Bhasmangad heard about the kindness of Rudra from Narada, he served Rudra single-mindedly and pleased him
ਆਪਨੇ ਮਾਸਹਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਆਗ ਮੈ ਹੋਮ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਡਰਾਯੋ ॥
aapane maaseh kaatt kai aag mai hom kariyo na ratee ku ddaraayo |
ਹਾਥ ਧਰੋ ਜਿਹ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਪੈ ਤਿਹ ਛਾਰ ਉਡੈ ਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਬਰੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੨੪੫੭॥
haath dharo jih ke sir pai tih chhaar uddai su ihai bar paayo |2457|
He without any fear, cut down his flesh and performed homa in fire, he was bestowed this boon that on the head of whomsoever he would place his hand, he would be reduced to ashes.2457.
ਹਾਥ ਧਰੋ ਜਿਹ ਕੈ ਸਿਰ ਪੈ ਤਿਹ ਛਾਰ ਉਡੈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਬਰੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
haath dharo jih kai sir pai tih chhaar uddai jab hee bar paayo |
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਥਮੈ ਹਤਿ ਕੈ ਜੜ ਚਾਹਤ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਅ ਛਿਨਾਯੋ ॥
rudr hee kau prathamai hat kai jarr chaahat tiau tih treea chhinaayo |
When he obtained the boon of placing his hand and reducing the person to ashes, then that fool in the first place wanted to reduce Rudra to ashes and seize Parvati
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਭਜਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਆਏ ਹੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਸੋ ਛਲ ਸੋ ਜਰਵਾਯੋ ॥
rudr bhajiyo tab aae hai sayaam joo aae kai so chhal so jaravaayo |
Then Rudra ran and with deception, he caused the reduction of Bhumasura
ਭੂਪ ਕਹੋ ਬਡੋ ਸੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਕਿ ਬਡੋ ਹਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਚਾਯੋ ॥੨੪੫੮॥
bhoop kaho baddo so tum hee ki baddo har hai jih taeh bachaayo |2458|
Therefore O king! you may tell me now whether you are great or God is great, who protected you.2458.

SWAYYA
ਬੈਠੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਰਿਖਿ ਸਾਤ ਤਹਾ ਇਕਠੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਮੈ ਅਸ ਆਯੋ ॥
baitthe hute rikh saat tahaa ikatthe tin ke jeea mai as aayo |
Once the seven sages sat together, thought in their mind that Rudra was good,
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਭਲੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕਿਧੋ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਜੂ ਪੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੈ ਜਿਹ ਕੋ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
rudr bhalo brahamaa kidho bisan joo pai prithamai jih ko tthaharaayo |
Brahma was good and Vishnu was the best of all
ਤੀਨੋ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਹੈ ਇਨ ਕੋ ਕਿਨ ਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
teeno anant hai ant kachhoo neh hai in ko kin hoo nahee paayo |
The play of all the three is infinite, none had been able to understand their mystery
ਭੇਦ ਲਹੋ ਇਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਮੈ ਭ੍ਰਿਗ ਬੈਠੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੋਊ ਦੇਖਨ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੨੪੫੯॥
bhed laho in ko tin mai bhrig baittho huto soaoo dekhan dhaayo |2459|
In order to understand their tone, Bhrigu, one of the sages sitting there, went away,2459.
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਗਯੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਤੁਮ ਜੀਵ ਹਨੋ ਤਿਹ ਸੂਲ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
rudr ke dhaam gayo kahio tum jeev hano tih sool sanbhaariyo |
He went to the house of Rudra, the sage said to Rudra, “You destroy the beings,” hearing this Rudra took up his trident
ਗਯੋ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਕੇ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਬੇਦ ਰਰੈ ਇਹ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
gayo chaturaanan ke chal kai ih bed rarai ih jaan na paariyo |
Then that sage went to Brahma and said, “You repeat the reading of Vedas uselessly,” Brahma also did not like these words
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਗਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਸੋਵਤ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਰਿਖਿ ਲਾਤਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
bisan ke lok gayo sukh sovat kop bhariyo rikh laateh maariyo |
When he reached near Vishnu and seeing him sleeping the sage struck him with his leg
ਕੋਪ ਕੀਯੋ ਨ ਗਹੇ ਰਿਖਿ ਪਾ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰੀਪਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੪੬੦॥
kop keeyo na gahe rikh paa ih sreepat sree brijanaath bichaariyo |2460|
Vishnu did not become angry and catching his feet, he said thus to him,2460
ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ ॥

ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sunahu benanteea suaamee mere raam |
Listen to my prayer, O my Lord and Master.
ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਭਰੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
kott apraadh bhare bhee tere chere raam |
I am filled with millions of sins, but still, I am Your slave.
ਦੁਖ ਹਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਮੋਹਨ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸਹ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥
dukh haran kirapaa karan mohan kal kalesah bhanjanaa |
O Destroyer of pain, Bestower of Mercy, Fascinating Lord, Destroyer of sorrow and strife,
ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
saran teree rakh lehu meree sarab mai niranjanaa |
I have come to Your Sanctuary; please preserve my honor. You are all-pervading, O Immaculate Lord.
ਸੁਨਤ ਪੇਖਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨੇਰਹੂ ਤੇ ਨੇਰੇ ॥
sunat pekhat sang sabh kai prabh nerahoo te nere |
He hears and beholds all; God is with us, the nearest of the near.
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਚੇਰੇ ॥੧॥
aradaas naanak sun suaamee rakh lehu ghar ke chere |1|
O Lord and Master, hear Nanak's prayer; please save the servants of Your household. ||1||
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
too samarath sadaa ham deen bhekhaaree raam |
You are eternal and all-powerful; I am a mere beggar, Lord.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਕਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
maaeaa mohi magan kadt lehu muraaree raam |
I am intoxicated with the love of Maya - save me, Lord!
ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਕਮਾਵਨੇ ॥
lobh mohi bikaar baadhio anik dokh kamaavane |
Bound down by greed, emotional attachment and corruption, I have made so many mistakes.
ਅਲਿਪਤ ਬੰਧਨ ਰਹਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਾਵਨੇ ॥
alipat bandhan rehat karataa keea apanaa paavane |
The creator is both attached and detached from entanglements; one obtains the fruits of his own actions.
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੇ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
kar anugrahu patit paavan bahu jon bhramate haaree |
Show kindness to me, O Purifier of sinners; I am so tired of wandering through reincarnation.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak daas har kaa prabh jeea praan adhaaree |2|
Prays Nanak, I am the slave of the Lord; God is the Support of my soul, and my breath of life. ||2||
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਡਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
too samarath vaddaa meree mat thoree raam |
You are great and all-powerful; my understanding is so inadequate, O Lord.
ਪਾਲਹਿ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਨਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
paaleh akirataghanaa pooran drisatt teree raam |
You cherish even the ungrateful ones; Your Glance of Grace is perfect, Lord.
ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
agaadh bodh apaar karate mohi neech kachhoo na jaanaa |
Your wisdom is unfathomable, O Infinite Creator. I am lowly, and I know nothing.
ਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਨ ਕਉਡੀ ਪਸੂ ਨੀਚੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
ratan tiaag sangrahan kauddee pasoo neech eaanaa |
Forsaking the jewel, I have saved the shell; I am a lowly, ignorant beast.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲਤੀ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਚਲਿ ਦੋਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰੀ ॥
tiaag chalatee mahaa chanchal dokh kar kar joree |
I have kept that which forsakes me, and is very fickle, continually committing sins, again and again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥
naanak saran samarath suaamee paij raakhahu moree |3|
Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, Almighty Lord and Master; please, preserve my honor. ||3||
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਵੀਛੁੜਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
jaa te veechhurriaa tin aap milaaeaa raam |
I was separated from Him, and now, He has united me with Himself.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
saadhoo sangame har gun gaaeaa raam |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਸਦਾ ਨੀਕੇ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਮੈ ਪਰਗਟ ਭਏ ॥
gun gaae govid sadaa neeke kaliaan mai paragatt bhe |
Singing the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the ever-sublime blissful Lord is revealed to me.
ਸੇਜਾ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਿ ਲਏ ॥
sejaa suhaavee sang prabh kai aapane prabh kar le |
My bed is adorned with God; my God has made me His own.
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਹੋਏ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
chhodd chint achint hoe bahurr dookh na paaeaa |
Abandoning anxiety, I have become carefree, and I shall not suffer in pain any longer.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੮॥
naanak darasan pekh jeeve govind gun nidh gaaeaa |4|5|8|
Nanak lives by beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the ocean of excellence. ||4||5||8||
ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ ॥

ਬੋਲਿ ਸੁਧਰਮੀੜਿਆ ਮੋਨਿ ਕਤ ਧਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
bol sudharameerriaa mon kat dhaaree raam |
O you of sublime faith, chant the Lord's Name; why do you remain silent?
ਤੂ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
too netree dekh chaliaa maaeaa biauhaaree raam |
with your eyes, you have seen the treacherous ways of Maya.
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
sang terai kachh na chaalai binaa gobind naamaa |
Nothing shall go along with you, except the Name of the Lord of the Universe.
ਦੇਸ ਵੇਸ ਸੁਵਰਨ ਰੂਪਾ ਸਗਲ ਊਣੇ ਕਾਮਾ ॥
des ves suvaran roopaa sagal aoone kaamaa |
Land, clothes, gold and silver - all of these things are useless.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਸਤ ਘੋਰਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ॥
putr kalatr na sang sobhaa hasat ghor vikaaree |
Children, spouse, worldly honors, elephants, horses and other corrupting influences shall not go with you.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
binavant naanak bin saadhasangam sabh mithiaa sansaaree |1|
Prays Nanak, without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the whole world is false. ||1||
ਰਾਜਨ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਇਆ ਤੂ ਨੀਦ ਭਰੇ ਜਾਗਤ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
raajan kiau soeaa too need bhare jaagat kat naahee raam |
O king, why are you sleeping? Why don't you wake up to reality?
ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੁ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
maaeaa jhootth rudan kete bilalaahee raam |
It is useless to cry and whine about Maya, but so many cry out and bewail.
ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
bilalaeh kete mahaa mohan bin naam har ke sukh nahee |
So many cry out for Maya, the great enticer, but without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਾਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਹ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
sehas siaanap upaav thaake jeh bhaavat teh jaahee |
Thousands of clever tricks and efforts will not succeed. One goes wherever the Lord wills him to go.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥
aad ante madh pooran sarabatr ghatt ghatt aahee |
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is all-pervading everywhere; He is in each and every heart.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮੁ ਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak jin saadhasangam se pat setee ghar jaahee |2|
Prays Nanak, those who join the Saadh Sangat go to the house of the Lord with honor. ||2||
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
narapat jaan grahio sevak siaane raam |
O king of mortals, know that your palaces and wise servants shall be of no use in the end.
ਸਰਪਰ ਵੀਛੁੜਣਾ ਮੋਹੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sarapar veechhurranaa mohe pachhutaane raam |
You shall certainly have to separate yourself from them, and their attachment shall make you feel regret.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
harichandauree dekh bhoolaa kahaa asathit paaeeai |
Beholding the phantom city, you have gone astray; how can you now find stability?
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਨ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
bin naam har ke aan rachanaa ahilaa janam gavaaeeai |
Absorbed in things other than the Name of the Lord, this human life is wasted in vain.
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥
hau hau karat na trisan boojhai neh kaam pooran giaane |
Indulging in egotistical actions, your thirst is not quenched. Your desires are not fulfilled, and you do not attain spiritual wisdom.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
binavant naanak bin naam har ke ketiaa pachhutaane |3|
Prays Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, so many have departed with regret. ||3||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
dhaar anugraho apanaa kar leenaa raam |
Showering His blessings, the Lord has made me His own.
ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhujaa geh kaadt leeo saadhoo sang deenaa raam |
Grasping me by the arm, He has pulled me out of the mud, and He has blessed me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥
saadhasangam har araadhe sagal kalamal dukh jale |
Worshipping the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, all my sins and sufferings are burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਦਾਨ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੇ ਚਲੇ ॥
mahaa dharam sudaan kiriaa sang terai se chale |
This is the greatest religion, and the best act of charity; this alone shall go along with you.
ਰਸਨਾ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ॥
rasanaa araadhai ek suaamee har naam man tan bheenaa |
My tongue chants in adoration the Name of the One Lord and Master; my mind and body are drenched in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਬੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
naanak jis no har milaae so sarab gun parabeenaa |4|6|9|
O Nanak, whoever the Lord unites with Himself, is filled with all virtues. ||4||6||9||
