ਪਾਰਥ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਜਬੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
paarath so brijanaath jabai kab sayaam kahai ih bhaat bakhaano |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਇਹੀ ਇਹ ਪਾਰਥ ਭੀਮ ਇਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
sree brijanaath ihee ih paarath bheem ihai tih bhoopat jaano |
When Arjuna said like this to Krishna, then the king thought that they were, in fact, Krishna, Arjuna and Bhima.
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਭਜਿਯੋ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਯਾ ਸੰਗ ਹਉ ਲਰਿਹੋ ਸੁ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
kaanrah bhajiyo ham te ih baalak yaa sang hau lariho su bakhaano |
ਜੁਧੁ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਠਾਢੋ ਭਯੋ ਉਠਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਕਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੨੩੨੪॥
judh ke kaaran tthaadto bhayo utth sayaam kahai kachh traas na maano |2324|
He said, “Krishna has fled before me, should I now fight with these children?” Saying this, he stood fearlessly for waging the war.2324.
ਭਾਰੀ ਗਦਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਧਾਮਿ ਘਨੀ ਇਕ ਭੀਮ ਕੌ ਆਪ ਕੋ ਅਉਰ ਮੰਗਾਈ ॥
bhaaree gadaa hutee dhaam ghanee ik bheem kau aap ko aaur mangaaee |
There was a very huge mace, in the house the king caused to be brought for himself and gave the other to Bhima,
ਏਕ ਦਈ ਕਰਿ ਭੀਮਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਆਪਨੇ ਹਾਥ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥
ek dee kar bheemeh ke ik aapane haath ke beech suhaaee |
He took his mace in his hand and the other mace was given in the hand of Bhima, the fight began
ਰਾਤਿ ਕੋ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਸੁ ਦਿਵਸ ਕਰੈ ਉਠਿ ਨਿਤ ਲਰਾਈ ॥
raat ko soe rahai sukh paae su divas karai utth nit laraaee |
ਐਸੇ ਕਥਾ ਦੁਹ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਬੀਚ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੨੩੨੫॥
aise kathaa duh beeran kee man beech bichaar kai sayaam sunaaee |2325|
They used to sleep at night and fight during the day and the story of the battle of both the warriors is related by the poet Shyam.2325.
ਭੀਮ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਭੂਪ ਪੈ ਮਾਰਤ ਭੂਪ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਭੀਮ ਪੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
bheem gadaa geh bhoop pai maarat bhoop gadaa geh bheem pai maaree |
ਰੋਸ ਭਰੇ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਦੋਊ ਲਰੈ ਕਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਜਨ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
ros bhare balavant doaoo larai kaanan mai jan kehar bhaaree |
Bhima strikes the mace on the king and the king given the blow with his mace to Bhima. Both the warriors are fighting in fury with such intensity as if two lions are fighting in the forest
ਜੁਧ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਮੁਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਟਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਜਨੁ ਯਾਰੀ ॥
judh karai na murai tih tthaur te baattat hai tih tthaa jan yaaree |
They are fighting and not moving away from their determined places
ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਚਤੁਰੇ ਜਨੁ ਖੇਲਤ ਹੈ ਫੁਲਥਾ ਸੋ ਖਿਲਾਰੀ ॥੨੩੨੬॥
yau upajee upamaa chature jan khelat hai fulathaa so khilaaree |2326|
It seems that the sportsmen are standing stable while playing.2326.
ਦਿਵਸ ਸਤਾਈਸ ਜੁਧੁ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਭੂਪ ਜਿਤਿਯੋ ਬਲੁ ਭੀਮਹਿ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
divas sataaees judh bhayo jab bhoop jitiyo bal bheemeh haariyo |
After twenty-seven days of fighting, the king became victorious and Bhima was defeated
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਦਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਬਲੁ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਪਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sree brijanaath dayo tab hee bal judh ko krodh kee or pachaariyo |
Then Krishna gave his own strength to him and shouted in anger
ਲੈ ਤਿਨਕਾ ਇਕ ਹਾਥਹਿ ਭੀਤਰ ਚੀਰ ਦਯੋ ਇਹ ਭੇਦ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
lai tinakaa ik haatheh bheetar cheer dayo ih bhed nihaariyo |
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਭੀਮ ਨੇ ਚੀਰ ਦਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਯੌ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੩੨੭॥
taise hee bheem ne cheer dayo nrip yau mukh te kab sayaam uchaariyo |2327|
He took a straw in his hand and cleaved it and saw towards Bhima with mysterious look, Bhima likewise cleaved the king according to the saying of poet Shyam.2327.

SWAYYA
ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੂਪ ਗਏ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਜਹ ਬਾਧੇ ਕਈ ਪੁਨਿ ਭੂਪ ਪਰੇ ॥
maar ke bhoop ge tih tthaa jeh baadhe kee pun bhoop pare |
After killing Jarasandh, they all went to that place, where he had imprisoned many kings
ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਤ ਸੋਕ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਇਤ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਲਾਜ ਭਰੇ ॥
har dekhat sok mitte tin ke it sayaam joo ke drig laaj bhare |
On seeing the Lord, their sufferings ended, but here the eyes of Krishna were filled with shyness (that he could not get them released earlier)
ਬੰਧਨ ਜੇਤਿਕ ਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਛਿਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਡਰੇ ॥
bandhan jetik the tin ke sab hee chhin bheetar kaatt ddare |
ਦਏ ਛੋਰ ਸਬੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਰਸੁ ਸੋ ਜਬ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਢਰੇ ॥੨੩੨੮॥
de chhor sabai kab sayaam bhanai karunaa ras so jab kaanrah dtare |2328|
They were liberated form their restraints in an instant and by the grace of Krishna all of them were released.2328.
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਭੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
bandhan kaatt sabhai tin ke tin kau brij naaeik aise uchaaro |
ਆਨਦ ਚਿਤ ਕਰੋ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਸੋਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੋ ॥
aanad chit karo apune apune chit ko sabh sok nivaaro |
After freeing them from their bondages, Krishna said to them, “Feeling delight in your mind, without any anxiety,
ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਜਿਤੋ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਾਮ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥
raaj samaaj jito tum jaae kai sayaam bhanai dhan dhaam sanbhaaro |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਕਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਆਪਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਦੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਰੋ ॥੨੩੨੯॥
sree brijanaath kahee tih ko tum aapane aapane des sidhaaro |2329|
“You may return to your own countries and take cognizance of your kingdom, society, wealth and homes.”2329.
ਬੰਧਨ ਛੋਰਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਯੌ ਸਭ ਭੂਪਨ ਤਉ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
bandhan chhor kahiyo har yau sabh bhoopan tau ih bhaat uchaaree |
After freeing them from the bondage, when Krishna said this, then all the king replied,
ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਕਛੂ ਨਹੀ ਤੇਰੋ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਹੈ ਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
raaj samaaj kachhoo nahee tero hee dhiaan lahai su ihai jeea dhaaree |
“We have no royal and social connections now we only remember you.”
ਰਾਜ ਕਰੋ ਰੁ ਇਹੈ ਲਹਿ ਹੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
raaj karo ru ihai leh ho kab sayaam kahiyo ih bhaat muraaree |
Krishna said, “I shall make all of you kings here
ਸੋ ਉਨ ਮਾਨ ਕਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਉ ਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੀਯੋ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੇਤ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੩੩੦॥
so un maan kahee har iau su sadaa raheeyo sudh let hamaaree |2330|
” Agreeing to the words of Krishna, the kings requested him, “O Lord! kindly keep us under your care.”2330.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਜਰਾਸੰਧਿ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਕਰਿ ਸਭ ਭੂਪਨਿ ਕੋ ਛੁਰਾਇ ਦਿਲੀ ਮੋ ਆਵਤ ਭਏ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥
eit sree bachitr naattak granthe krisanaavataare jaraasandh ko badh kar sabh bhoopan ko chhuraae dilee mo aavat bhe dhiaae samaapatan |

Dear God, I long to behold the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sundar dhiaan dhaar din rainee jeea praan te piaaraa |1| rahaau |
I cherish this beautiful meditation day and night; You are dearer to me than my soul, dearer than life itself. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਅਵਿਲੋਕੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
saasatr bed puraan aviloke simrit tat beechaaraa |
I have studied and contemplated the essence of the Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas.
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਵਜਲ ਉਧਰਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
deenaa naath praanapat pooran bhavajal udharanahaaraa |1|
Protector of the meek, Lord of the breath of life, O Perfect One, carry us across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
aad jugaad bhagat jan sevak taa kee bikhai adhaaraa |
Since the very beginning, and throughout the ages, the humble devotees have been Your servants; in the midst of the world of corruption, You are their Support.
ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਛੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੨੦॥
tin jan kee dhoor baachhai nit naanak paramesar devanahaaraa |2|20|
Nanak longs for the dust of the feet of such humble beings; the Transcendent Lord is the Giver of all. ||2||20||

ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
teraa jan raam rasaaein maataa |
Your humble servant, O Lord, is intoxicated with Your sublime essence.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਉਪਜੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prem rasaa nidh jaa kau upajee chhodd na katahoo jaataa |1| rahaau |
One who obtains the treasure of the Nectar of Your Love, does not renounce it to go somewhere else. ||1||Pause||
ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਤਾ ॥
baitthat har har sovat har har har ras bhojan khaataa |
While sitting, he repeats the Lord's Name, Har, Har; while sleeping, he repeats the Lord's Name, Har, Har; he eats the Nectar of the Lord's Name as his food.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰੀ ਨਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
atthasatth teerath majan keeno saadhoo dhooree naataa |1|
Bathing in the dust of the feet of the Holy is equal to taking cleansing baths at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1||
ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਉਤੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
safal janam har jan kaa upajiaa jin keeno saut bidhaataa |
How fruitful is the birth of the Lord's humble servant; the Creator is his Father.
ਸਗਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਲੈ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੨੧॥
sagal samooh lai udhare naanak pooran braham pachhaataa |2|21|
O Nanak, one who recognizes the Perfect Lord God, takes all with him, and saves everyone. ||2||21||
ਦੇਵਗੰਧਾਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dayv-Gandhaaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
maaee gur bin giaan na paaeeai |
O mother, without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained.
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੇ ਮਿਲਤ ਨਹੀ ਗੋਸਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik prakaar firat bilalaate milat nahee gosaaeeai |1| rahaau |
They wander around, weeping and crying out in various ways, but the Lord of the World does not meet them. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਤਨੁ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਈਐ ॥
moh rog sog tan baadhio bahu jonee bharamaaeeai |
The body is tied up with emotional attachment, disease and sorrow, and so it is lured into countless reincarnations.
ਟਿਕਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਇ ਰੂਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
ttikan na paavai bin satasangat kis aagai jaae rooaaeeai |1|
He finds no place of rest without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; to whom should he go and cry? ||1||
ਕਰੈ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਧ ਚਰਨ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈਐ ॥
karai anugrahu suaamee meraa saadh charan chit laaeeai |
When my Lord and Master shows His Mercy, we lovingly focus our consciousness on the feet of the Holy.
ਸੰਕਟ ਘੋਰ ਕਟੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੨॥੨੨॥
sankatt ghor katte khin bheetar naanak har daras samaaeeai |2|22|
The most horrible agonies are dispelled in an instant, O Nanak, and we merge in the Blessed Vision of the Lord. ||2||22||

ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੋਏ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

The Lord and Master Himself has become Merciful.
ਭਈ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਅਨੰਦ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਬਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhee kaliaan anand roop hoee hai ubare baal gupaal | rahaau |
I have been emancipated, and I have become the embodiment of bliss; I am the Lord's child - He has saved me. ||Pause||
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
due kar jorr karee benantee paarabraham man dhiaaeaa |
With my palms pressed together, I offer my prayer; within my mind, I meditate on the Supreme Lord God.
ਹਾਥੁ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਿ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
haath dee raakhe paramesur sagalaa durat mittaaeaa |1|
Giving me His hand, the Transcendent Lord has eradicated all my sins. ||1||
ਵਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
var naaree mil mangal gaaeaa tthaakur kaa jaikaar |
Husband and wife join together in rejoicing, celebrating the Victory of the Lord Master.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੨੩॥
kahu naanak jan kau bal jaaeeai jo sabhanaa kare udhaar |2|23|
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the humble servant of the Lord, who emancipates everyone. ||2||23||
