RASAAVAL STANZA

ਜਿਤੇ ਬੈਰ ਰੁੱਝੰ ॥

jite bair rujhan |

ਤਿਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਜੁੱਝੰ ॥

tite ant jujhan |

All the fighters engaged in war against their enemies, ultimately fell as martyrs.

ਜਿਤੇ ਖੇਤ ਭਾਜੇ ॥

jite khet bhaaje |

ਤਿਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਲਾਜੇ ॥੪੫॥

tite ant laaje |45|

All those who have run away from the battlefield, they all feel ashamed at the end. 45.

ਤੁਟੇ ਦੇਹ ਬਰਮੰ ॥

tutte deh baraman |

ਛੁਟੀ ਹਾਥ ਚਰਮੰ ॥

chhuttee haath charaman |

The armours of the bodies are broken and the shields have fallen from the hands.

ਕਹੂੰ ਖੇਤ ਖੋਲੰ ॥

kahoon khet kholan |

ਗਿਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਟੋਲੰ ॥੪੬॥

Somewhere there are helmets scattered in the battlefield and somewhere the groups of warriors have fallen.46.

ਕਹੂੰ ਮੁੱਛ ਮੁੱਖੰ ॥

kahoon muchh mukhan |

ਕਹੂੰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੱਖੰ ॥

kahoon sasatr sakhan |

Somewhere the faces with whiskers have fallen, somewhere only weapons are lying.

ਕਹੂੰ ਖੋਲ ਖੱਗੰ ॥

kahoon khol khagan |

ਕਹੂੰ ਪਰਮ ਪੱਗੰ ॥੪੭॥

kahoon param pagan |47|

Somewhere there are scabbards and swords and somewhere there are only few lying in the field.47.

ਗਹੇ ਮੁੱਛ ਬੰਕੀ ॥

gahe muchh bankee |

ਮੰਡੇ ਆਨ ਹੰਕੀ ॥

mandde aan hankee |

Holding their winsome whiskers, the proud warriors are somewhere engaged in fighting.

ਢਕਾ ਢੁੱਕ ਢਾਲੰ ॥

dtakaa dtuk dtaalan |

ਉਠੇ ਹਾਲ ਚਾਲੰ ॥੪੮॥

Somewhere the weapons are being struck with great knocking on the shield, a great commotion has arisen (in the field). 48

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਖੁਲੇ ਖੱਗ ਖੂਨੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤੰ ॥

khule khag khoonee mahaan beer khetan |

ਨਚੇ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਾਲਯੰ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ॥

nache beer baitaalayan bhoot pretan |

The brave warriors are moving in the battlefield with naked swords, smeared with blood, evil spirits, ghosts, fiends and goblins are dancing.

ਬਜੇ ਡੰਕ ਡਉਰੂ ਉਠੇ ਨਾਦ ਸੰਖੰ ॥

baje ddank ddauroo utthe naad sankhan |

ਮਨੋ ਮੱਲ ਜੁੱਟੇ ਮਹਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਬੰਖੰ ॥੪੯॥

mano mal jutte mahaan hath bankhan |49|

The tabor and small drum resound and the sound of conches arises. It appears that the wrestlers, holding with their hands the waists of their opponents are trying to throw them down.49.

ਛਪੈ ਛੰਦ ॥

CHHAPAI STANZA

ਜਿਨ ਸੂਰਨ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਸਬਲ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਮੰਡਿਓ ॥

jin sooran sangraam sabal saamuhi hvai manddio |

Those warriors who had begun the war confronted their opponents with great strength.

ਤਿਨ ਸੁਭਟਨ ਤੇ ਏਕ ਕਾਲ ਕੋਊ ਜੀਅਤ ਨ ਛੱਡਿਓ ॥

tin subhattan te ek kaal koaoo jeeat na chhaddio |

Out of those warriors the KAL had not left anyone alive.

ਸਭ ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਖੱਗ ਖੰਡ ਖੇਤ ਭੂ ਮੰਡਪ ਆਹੁੱਟੇ ॥

sabh khatree khag khandd khet bhoo manddap aahutte |

All the warriors had gathered in the battlefield holding their swords.

ਸਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਧਰ ਧੂਮ ਮੁਕਤ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਛੁੱਟੇ ॥

saar dhaar dhar dhoom mukat bandhan te chhutte |

Enduring the somokeless fire of the steel-edge, they have saved themselves from the bondages.

ਹ੍ਵੈ ਟੂਕ ਟੂਕ ਜੁੱਝੈ ਸਬੈ ਪਾਵ ਨ ਪਾਛੈ ਡਾਰੀਅੰ ॥

hvai ttook ttook jujhai sabai paav na paachhai ddaareean |

They have all been chopped and fallen as martyrs and none of them hath retraced his steps.

ਜੈਕਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਹੁਅੰ ਬਾਸਿਵ ਲੋਕ ਸਿਧਾਰੀਅੰ ॥੫੦॥

jaikaar apaar sudhaar huan baasiv lok sidhaareean |50|

Those who have gone like this to the abode of Indra, they are hailed with utmost reverence in the world. 50.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਚਾ ਘੋਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਾ ॥

eih bidh machaa ghor sangraamaa |

ਸਿਧਏ ਸੂਰ ਸੂਰਿ ਕੇ ਧਾਮਾ ॥

sidhe soor soor ke dhaamaa |

Suchlike horrible war blazed and the brave warriors left for their (heavenly) abode.

ਕਹਾ ਲਗੈ ਵਹ ਕਥੋਂ ਲਰਾਈ ॥

kahaa lagai veh kathon laraaee |

ਆਪਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਨ ਬਰਨੀ ਜਾਈ ॥੫੧॥

aapan prabhaa na baranee jaaee |51|

Upto which limit should I describe that war? I cannot describe it with my own understanding.51.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਲਵੀ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਤੇ ਕੁਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਹਾਰੇ ॥

lavee sarab jeete kusee sarab haare |

ਬਚੇ ਜੇ ਬਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥

bache je balee praan lai ke sidhaare |

(The descendants of Lava) have all been victorious and the (descendants of Kusha) were all defeated. The descendants of Kusha who remained alive, saved themselves by fleeing away.

ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਪਠਿਯੰ ਕੀ︀ਯੋ ਕਾਸਿ ਬਾਸੰ ॥

chatur bed patthiyan keeyo kaas baasan |

ਘਨੇ ਬਰਖ ਕੀਨੇ ਤਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਿਵਾਸੰ ॥੫੨॥

ghane barakh keene tahaan hee nivaasan |52|

They went to Kashi and real all the four Vedas. They lived there for many years.52.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਜਿਨੈ ਬੇਦ ਪਠਿਓ ਸੁ ਬੇਦੀ ਕਹਾਏ ॥

jinai bed patthio su bedee kahaae |

ਤਿਨੈ ਧਰਮ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਨੀਕੇ ਚਲਾਏ ॥

tinai dharam ke karam neeke chalaae |

Those who studied the Vedas, called Vedis (Bedis), they absorbed themselves in good acts of righteousness.

ਪਠੇ ਕਾਗਦੰ ਮੱਦ੍ਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਧਾਰੰ ॥

patthe kaagadan madr raajaa sudhaaran |

ਅਪੋ ਆਪ ਮੋ ਬੈਰ ਭਾਵੰ ਬਿਸਾਰੰ ॥੧॥

apo aap mo bair bhaavan bisaaran |1|

The Sodhi king of Madra Desha (Punjab) sent letters to them, entreating them to forget the past enmities.1.

ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ਮੁਕਲਿਅੰ ਦੂਤ ਸੋ ਕਾਸਿ ਆਯੰ ॥

nripan mukalian doot so kaas aayan |

ਸਬੈ ਬੇਦਿਯੰ ਭੇਦ ਭਾਖੇ ਸੁਨਾਯੰ ॥

sabai bediyan bhed bhaakhe sunaayan |

The messengers sent by the king came to Kashi and gave the message to all the Bedis.

ਸਬੈ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠੀ ਚਲੇ ਮੱਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

sabai bed paatthee chale madr desan |

ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਆਨ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਨਰੇਸੰ ॥੨॥

pranaaman keeyo aan kai kai naresan |2|

All the reciters of the Vedas came to Madra Desha and made obeisance to the king.2.

ਧੁਨੰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਭੂਪ ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਈ ॥

dhunan bed kee bhoop taan te karaaee |

ਸਬੈ ਪਾਸ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਭਾ ਬੀਚ ਭਾਈ ॥

sabai paas baitthe sabhaa beech bhaaee |

The king caused them to recite the Vedas in the traditional manner and all the brethren (both Sodhis and Pelis) sat tohether.

ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਾਮ ਬੇਦੰ ਜੁਜਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੱਥੰ ॥

parrhe saam bedan jujar bed kathan |

ਰਿਗੰ ਬੇਦ ਪਠਿਯੰ ਕਰੇ ਭਾਵ ਹੱਥੰ ॥੩॥

rigan bed patthiyan kare bhaav hathan |3|

Saam-Veda, Yajur-Veda and Rig-Ved were recited, the essence of the sayings was imbibed (by the king and his clan).3.

ਅਥਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੱਠਿਯੰ ॥

ਸੁਣੇ ਪਾਪ ਨੱਠਿਯੰ ॥

sune paap natthiyan |

The sin-remover Atharva-Veda was recited.

ਰਹਾ ਰੀਝ ਰਾਜਾ ॥

rahaa reejh raajaa |

ਦੀਯਾ ਸਰਬ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੪॥

deeyaa sarab saajaa |4|

The king was highly pleased and the bequeathed his kingdom to Bedis.4.

ਲਯੋ ਬਨਬਾਸੰ ॥

layo banabaasan |

ਮਹਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸੰ ॥

mahaan paap naasan |

He himself adopted the sin-destroyer Vanaprastha Ashrama.

ਰਿਖੰ ਭੇਸ ਕੀਯੰ ॥

rikhan bhes keeyan |

ਤਿਸੈ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਯੰ ॥੫॥

tisai raaj deeyan |5|

He put on the garb of a sage (rishi) and gave his kingdom to the reciter (Amrit Rai)5.

ਰਹੇ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਗੰ ॥

rahe hor logan |

ਤਜੇ ਸਰਬ ਸੋਗੰ ॥

taje sarab sogan |

The people tried to the king to do so, but, he had abandoned all sorrows.

ਧਨੰ ਧਾਮ ਤਿਆਗੇ ॥

dhanan dhaam tiaage |

ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਗੇ ॥੬॥

prabhan prem paage |6|

And leaving his wealth and property, absorbed himself in divine love.6.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ॥

Siree Raag, First Mehl, First House, Ashtpadheeyaa:

ਆਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਵਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਜਾਪੈ ਵਾਇ ॥

aakh aakh man vaavanaa jiau jiau jaapai vaae |

I speak and chant His Praises, vibrating the instrument of my mind. The more I know Him, the more I vibrate it.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਾਇ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਥਾਇ ॥

jis no vaae sunaaeeai so kevadd kit thaae |

The One, unto whom we vibrate and sing-how great is He, and where is His Place?

ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੇਤੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਆਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

aakhan vaale jetarre sabh aakh rahe liv laae |1|

Those who speak of Him and praise Him-they all continue speaking of Him with love. ||1||

ਬਾਬਾ ਅਲਹੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥

baabaa alahu agam apaar |

O Baba, the Lord Allah is Inaccessible and Infinite.

ਪਾਕੀ ਨਾਈ ਪਾਕ ਥਾਇ ਸਚਾ ਪਰਵਦਿਗਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

paakee naaee paak thaae sachaa paravadigaar |1| rahaau |

Sacred is His Name, and Sacred is His Place. He is the True Cherisher. ||1||Pause||

ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਕੇਤੜਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

teraa hukam na jaapee ketarraa likh na jaanai koe |

The extent of Your Command cannot be seen; no one knows how to write it.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਸਾਇਰ ਮੇਲੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਪੁਜਾਵਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥

je sau saaeir meleeeh til na pujaaveh roe |

Even if a hundred poets met together, they could not describe even a tiny bit of it.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

keemat kinai na paaeea sabh sun sun aakheh soe |2|

No one has found Your Value; they all merely write what they have heard again and again. ||2||

ਪੀਰ ਪੈਕਾਮਰ ਸਾਲਕ ਸਾਦਕ ਸੁਹਦੇ ਅਉਰੁ ਸਹੀਦ ॥

peer paikaamar saalak saadak suhade aaur saheed |

The Pirs, the Prophets, the spiritual teachers, the faithful, the innocents and the martyrs,

ਸੇਖ ਮਸਾਇਕ ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾ ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਰਸੀਦ ॥

sekh masaaeik kaajee mulaa dar daraves raseed |

the Shaikhs, the mystics, the Qazis, the Mullahs and the Dervishes at His Door

ਬਰਕਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਅਗਲੀ ਪੜਦੇ ਰਹਨਿ ਦਰੂਦ ॥੩॥

barakat tin kau agalee parrade rehan darood |3|

-they are blessed all the more as they continue reading their prayers in praise to Him. ||3||

ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਸਾਜੇ ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਢਾਹੇ ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ਲੇਇ ॥

puchh na saaje puchh na dtaahe puchh na devai lee |

He seeks no advice when He builds; He seeks no advice when He destroys. He seeks no advice while giving or taking.

ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

aapanee kudarat aape jaanai aape karan karee |

He alone knows His Creative Power; He Himself does all deeds.

ਸਭਨਾ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੪॥

sabhanaa vekhai nadar kar jai bhaavai tai dee |4|

He beholds all in His Vision. He gives to those with whom He is pleased. ||4||

ਥਾਵਾ ਨਾਵ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਨਾਉ ॥

thaavaa naav na jaaneeeh naavaa kevadd naau |

His Place and His Name are not known, no one knows how great is His Name.

ਜਿਥੈ ਵਸੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸੋ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਹੈ ਥਾਉ ॥

jithai vasai meraa paatisaahu so kevadd hai thaau |

How great is that place where my Sovereign Lord dwells?

ਅੰਬੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਹਉ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਪੁਛਣਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੫॥

anbarr koe na sakee hau kis no puchhan jaau |5|

No one can reach it; whom shall I go and ask? ||5||

ਵਰਨਾ ਵਰਨ ਨ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਜੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਵਡਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

varanaa varan na bhaavanee je kisai vaddaa karee |

One class of people does not like the other, when one has been made great.

ਵਡੇ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥

vadde hath vaddiaaeea jai bhaavai tai dee |

Greatness is only in His Great Hands; He gives to those with whom He is pleased.

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੈ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਢਿਲ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੬॥

hukam savaare aapanai chasaa na dtil karee |6|

By the Hukam of His Command, He Himself regenerates, without a moment's delay. ||6||

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਲੈਣੈ ਕੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

sabh ko aakhai bahut bahut lainai kai veechaar |

Everyone cries out, "More! More!", with the idea of receiving.

ਕੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੁਮਾਰਿ ॥

kevadd daataa aakheeai de kai rahiaa sumaar |

How great should we call the Giver? His Gifts are beyond estimation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗਹ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੭॥੧॥

naanak tott na aavee tere jugah jugah bhanddaar |7|1|

O Nanak, there is no deficiency; Your Storehouses are filled to overflowing, age after age. ||7||1||

First Mehl:

ਸਭੇ ਕੰਤ ਮਹੇਲੀਆ ਸਗਲੀਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

sabhe kant maheleea sagaleea kareh seegaar |

All are brides of the Husband Lord; all decorate themselves for Him.

ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਵਣਿ ਆਈਆ ਸੂਹਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥

ganat ganaavan aaeea soohaa ves vikaar |

But when the time comes to settle their accounts, their red robes are corrupt.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਖੋਟਾ ਪਾਜੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥

paakhandd prem na paaeeai khottaa paaj khuaar |1|

His Love is not obtained through hypocrisy. Her false coverings bring only ruin. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਇਉ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

har jeeo iau pir raavai naar |

In this way, the Dear Husband Lord ravishes and enjoys His bride.

ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tudh bhaavan sohaaganee apanee kirapaa laihi savaar |1| rahaau |

The happy soul-bride is pleasing to You, Lord; by Your Grace, You adorn her. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਆ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

gurasabadee seegaareea tan man pir kai paas |

She is decorated with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; her mind and body belong to her Husband Lord.

ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਖੜੀ ਤਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

due kar jorr kharree takai sach kahai aradaas |

With her palms pressed together, she stands, waiting on Him, and offers her True prayers to Him.

ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤੀ ਸਚ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਇ ਰਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

laal ratee sach bhai vasee bhaae ratee rang raas |2|

Dyed in the deep crimson of the Love of her Darling Lord, she dwells in the Fear of the True One. Imbued with His Love, she is dyed in the color of His Love. ||2||

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਕੀ ਚੇਰੀ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਲਾਲੀ ਮਾਨੈ ਨਾਉ ॥

pria kee cheree kaandteeai laalee maanai naau |

She is said to be the hand-maiden of her Beloved Lord; His sweetheart surrenders to His Name.

ਸਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥

saachee preet na tuttee saache mel milaau |

True Love is never broken; she is united in Union with the True One.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਵੇਧਿਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੩॥

sabad ratee man vedhiaa hau sad balihaarai jaau |3|

Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, her mind is pierced through. I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||3||

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਰੰਡ ਨ ਬੈਸਈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

saa dhan randd na baisee je satigur maeh samaae |

That bride, who is absorbed into the True Guru, shall never become a widow.

ਪਿਰੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਨਉਤਨੋ ਸਾਚਉ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

pir reesaaloo nautano saachau marai na jaae |

Her Husband Lord is Beautiful; His Body is forever fresh and new. The True One does not die, and shall not go.

ਨਿਤ ਰਵੈ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥

nit ravai sohaaganee saachee nadar rajaae |4|

He continually enjoys His happy soul-bride; He casts His Gracious Glance of Truth upon her, and she abides in His Will. ||4||

ਸਾਚੁ ਧੜੀ ਧਨ ਮਾਡੀਐ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

saach dharree dhan maaddeeai kaaparr prem seegaar |

The bride braids her hair with Truth; her clothes are decorated with His Love.

ਚੰਦਨੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

chandan cheet vasaaeaa mandar dasavaa duaar |

Like the essence of sandalwood, He permeates her consciousness, and the Temple of the Tenth Gate is opened.

ਦੀਪਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

deepak sabad vigaasiaa raam naam ur haar |5|

The lamp of the Shabad is lit, and the Name of the Lord is her necklace. ||5||

ਨਾਰੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਮਣੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

naaree andar sohanee masatak manee piaar |

She is the most beautiful among women; upon her forehead she wears the Jewel of the Lord's Love.

ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

sobhaa surat suhaavanee saachai prem apaar |

Her glory and her wisdom are magnificent; her love for the Infinite Lord is True.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੬॥

bin pir purakh na jaanee saache gur kai het piaar |6|

Other than her Beloved Lord, she knows no man. She enshrines love for the True Guru. ||6||

ਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ਸੁਤੀਏ ਕਿਉ ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

nis andhiaaree sutee kiau pir bin rain vihaae |

Asleep in the darkness of the night, how shall she pass her life-night without her Husband?

ਅੰਕੁ ਜਲਉ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲੀਅਉ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

ank jlau tan jaaleeo man dhan jal bal jaae |

Her limbs shall burn, her body shall burn, and her mind and wealth shall burn as well.

ਜਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਵੀਆ ਤਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

jaa dhan kant na raaveea taa birathaa joban jaae |7|

When the Husband does not enjoy His bride, then her youth passes away in vain. ||7||

ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤ ਮਹੇਲੜੀ ਸੂਤੀ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

sejai kant mahelarree sootee boojh na paae |

The Husband is on the Bed, but the bride is asleep, and so she does not come to know Him.

ਹਉ ਸੁਤੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਗਣਾ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

hau sutee pir jaaganaa kis kau poochhau jaae |

While I am asleep, my Husband Lord is awake. Where can I go for advice?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥

satigur melee bhai vasee naanak prem sakhaae |8|2|

The True Guru has led me to meet Him, and now I dwell in the Fear of God. O Nanak, His Love is always with me. ||8||2||
