ਜਬ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਘਾਇ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
jab rudreh har ghaae lagaayo |
ਬਿਸੁਧੋ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
bisudho kar kar bhoom giraayo |
In this way, when Krishna wounded Shiva and knocked him down on the earth,
ਸੰਕਿਤ ਭਯੋ ਨ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
sankit bhayo na fir dhan taaniyo |
Who also became fearful and then he did not pull his bow
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥੨੨੨੨॥
sree jadubeer sahee prabh jaaniyo |2222|
He recognised Krishna in his real form as the Lord (God).2222.

ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੋਪ ਦਯੋ ਤ︀ਯਾਗ ਜਦੁਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਬਲੁ ਹੇਰ ਕੈ ॥

ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗਿਯੋ ਆਇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਚਰਨ ਗਹਿ ਹਰ ਦੋਊ ॥੨੨੨੩॥
paaein laagiyo aae rahiyo charan geh har doaoo |2223|
Seeing the power of Krishna, Shiva forsook his anger, and fell at the feet of Krishna.2223.

ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕੋ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
rudr kee dekh dasaa ih bhaat su aapeh judh ko bhoopat aayo |
Seeing this condition of Shiva, the king came himself for fighting
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਦਸ ਸੈ ਭੁਜ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਊਪਰ ਬਾਨਨ ਓਘ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
sayaam bhanai das sai bhuj sayaam ke aoopar baanan ogh chalaayo |
He discharged showers of arrows with all his one thousand arms
ਓਘ ਜੋ ਆਵਤ ਬਾਨਨ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗ ਮੈ ਨਿਵਰਾਯੋ ॥
ogh jo aavat baanan ko sabh hee har maarag mai nivaraayo |
Krishna intercepted the coming arrows midway, making them passive
ਸਾਰੰਗ ਆਪੁਨ ਹਾਥ ਬਿਖੈ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਘਾਇਨ ਘਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੨੪॥
saarang aapun haath bikhai dhar kai ar ko bahu ghaaein ghaayo |2224|
He took his bow in his hand and wounded the enemy very badly.2224.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਧਨ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥
sree brij naaeik krudhit hue apane kar mai dhan saarang lai kai |
ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਦਸ ਸੈ ਭੁਜ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਓਜ ਅਖੰਡ ਜਨੈ ਕੈ ॥
judh machaavat bhayo das sai bhuj so at oj akhandd janai kai |
Getting infuriated and taking his bow and arrows in his hands, Krishna recognising the indestructible effulgence of Sahasrabahu, waged a terrible war with him
ਅਉਰ ਹਨੇ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਘਨੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਅਤਿ ਪਉਰਖ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥
aaur hane balavandd ghane kab sayaam bhanai at paurakh kai kai |
ਛੋਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਭੁਜਾ ਫੁਨ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ॥੨੨੨੫॥
chhor dayo tih bhoopat ko ran mai tih kee su bhujaa fun dvai kai |2225|
He killed many powerful warriors with his strength and chopped all the arms of the king except two and then released him.2225.

ਬਾਹ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਕਹੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਨਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
baah sahansr kaho tum hee ab lau jag mai nar kaahoo kee hoee |
“O Sahasrabahu! no one had been in such a pitiable plight as you till today
ਅਉਰ ਕਹੋ ਕਿਹ ਭੂਪ ਇਤੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬੀਚ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸਮੋਈ ॥
aaur kaho kih bhoop itee apane grih beech sanpat samoee |
Tell me, O king! why have you amassed so much wealth in your house?
ਏਤੇ ਪੈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਨੋ ਹਿਤ ਕੈ ਸਿਵ ਸੋ ਛਰੀਯਾ ਪੁਨਿ ਰਾਖਤ ਹੋਈ ॥
ete pai sant suno hit kai siv so chhareeyaa pun raakhat hoee |
ਤਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਬਰੁ ਯਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਈਸ ਦਯੋ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਕੀਓ ਭਯੋ ਸੋਈ ॥੨੨੨੬॥
taa nrip ko bar yaa bidh ees dayo jagadees keeo bhayo soee |2226|
“Being in such a state, why one keeps the powerful Shiva as his protector?” Though he was surely bestowed with a boon by Shiva, but only that thing happens, which is agreeable to Lord-God.2226.

ਜਬ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਤਿ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ਜੀਤਿਯੋ ਜਦੁਰਾਈ ॥
nrip haariyo jeetiyo jaduraaee |
ਸਭ ਤਜਿ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਗਨ ਹੁਇ ਆਈ ॥
sabh taj basatr nagan hue aaee |
ਆਇ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੋ ਦਈ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੨੨੨੭॥
aae sayaam ko dee dikhaaee |2227|
When the mother of king came to know that he has been defeated, and Krishna had been defeated, and Krishna had been victorious, then she stood naked before Krishna.2227.
ਤਬ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਨੀਚੇ ਹੁਇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
tab prabh drig neeche hue rahiyo |
ਨੈਕ ਨ ਜੂਝਬ ਚਿਤ ਮੋ ਚਹਿਯੋ ॥
naik na joojhab chit mo chahiyo |
Then the Lord bowed down his eyes and decided in his mind not to fight any more
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸਮੈ ਭਜਨ ਕੋ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
bhoopat samai bhajan ko paayo |
ਭਾਜਿ ਗਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੨੮॥
bhaaj gayo neh judh machaayo |2228|
During this period the king got the time to run away and he fled away, leaving the war-arena.2228.

ਬਿਪਤ ਹੁਇ ਬਹੁ ਘਾਇਨ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੀਰਨ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
bipat hue bahu ghaaein so nrip beeran mai ih bhaat uchaariyo |
ਕੋਊ ਨ ਸੂਰ ਟਿਕਿਯੋ ਮੁਹ ਅਗ੍ਰਜ ਹਉ ਜਿਹ ਕੀ ਰਿਸਿ ਓਰਿ ਪਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
koaoo na soor ttikiyo muh agraj hau jih kee ris or padhaariyo |
Getting agonised because of his wounds, the king said to his heroic soldiers, “The direction in which I went, no warrior could stand against me
ਗਾਜਬੋ ਮੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਕਿਨਹੂ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
gaajabo mo sun kai ab lau kinahoo kar mai nahee sasatr sanbhaariyo |
“Listening to my thundering, no one till today, has caught hold of his weapons
ਏਤੇ ਪੈ ਮੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਆਇ ਭਿਰਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਸਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੨੨੯॥
ete pai mo sang aae bhiriyo su sahee brij naaeik beer nihaariyo |2229|
Not withstanding such a position, the one who has fought with me is Krishna, the real hero.”2229.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਹਸ੍ਰ ਭੁਜ ਭਾਜਿ ਗਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
sree jadubeer te jo sahasr bhuj bhaaj gayo neh judh machaayo |
When Sahasrabahu fled away from Krishna, he looked at his two remaining arms
ਦ੍ਵੈ ਭੁਜ ਦੇਖਿ ਭਈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
dvai bhuj dekh bhee apunee apune chit mai at traas badtaayo |
He became extremely fearful in his mind
ਸੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥਹਿ ਕੋ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
so jag mai jas let bhayo jin sree brijanaatheh ko gun gaayo |
He, who has praised Krishna, he has earned approbation in the world
ਤਉ ਹੀ ਜਥਾਮਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦ ਤੇ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਛੁ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੩੦॥
tau hee jathaamat sant prasaad te yau keh kai kachh sayaam sunaayo |2230|
The poet Shyam has related the same virtues, according to his wisdom, by the grace of the saints.2230.
ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਿਵ ਜੂ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਪੁਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਸਭੈ ਗਨ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥
aavat bhayo ris kai siv joo fir aapune sang sabhai gan lai kai |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਬੀਰ ਕਹੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ॥
sree jadubeer ke saamuhe beer kahai kab sayaam su krudhit hvai kai |
Getting infuriated again, Shiva reached before Krishna taking his ganas alongwith him
ਬਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਬਰਛੀ ਗਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਭੇ ਰਿਸਿ ਨਾਦ ਬਜੈ ਕੈ ॥
baan kripaan gadaa barachhee geh aavat bhe ris naad bajai kai |
They were holding the bows, swords, maces and lances and blowing their war-horns while moving forward
ਸੋ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਸਭ ਬੀਰ ਦਏ ਫੁਨਿ ਅੰਤ ਕੇ ਧਾਮਿ ਪਠੈ ਕੈ ॥੨੨੩੧॥
so chhin mai prabh joo sabh beer de fun ant ke dhaam patthai kai |2231|
Krishna despatched them (the ganas) to the abode of Yama in an instant.2231.
ਏਕ ਹਨੇ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਏਕ ਬਲੀ ਰਿਪੁ ਸੰਬਰ ਘਾਏ ॥
ek hane jaduraae gadaa geh ek balee rip sanbar ghaae |
Many were killed by Krishna with his mace and many were killed by Shambar
ਏਕ ਭਿਰੇ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਤ ਧਾਮ ਹੂ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
ek bhire musaleedhar so su te jeevat dhaam hoo jaan na paae |
Those who fought with Balram, they did not return alive
ਜੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਇ ਭਿਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੀ ਓਪ ਬਢਾਏ ॥
jo fir aae bhire har so chit mai fun kop kee op badtaae |
Those who came and fought again with Krishna, they were chopped into fragments and bits in such a way
ਯੌ ਫਿਰਿ ਛੇਦਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜੋਊ ਜੰਬੁਕ ਗੀਧਨ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਏ ॥੨੨੩੨॥
yau fir chhedat bhayo tin kau joaoo janbuk geedhan haath na aae |2232|
, That they could not be had by the bultures and jackals.2232.
ਐਸੇ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਭਯੋ ਤਹਿ ਆਹਵ ਚਿਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
aise nihaar bhayo teh aahav chit bikhai at krodh badtaayo |
Seeing such a terrible war, Shiva in anger patted his arms, raised thundering voice
ਠੋਕਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਦੋਊ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਾਥ ਲੈ ਆਪਨੈ ਨਾਦ ਬਜਾਯੋ ॥
tthok bhujaa apanee doaoo aap hee haath lai aapanai naad bajaayo |
The manner in which the demon Andhaksura was attacked in rage,
ਜਿਉ ਕੁਪ ਅੰਧਕ ਦੈਤ ਪੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਮ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪੈ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
jiau kup andhak dait pai dhaavat bhayo tim kop kai sayaam pai dhaayo |
ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਲਰਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੨੩੩॥
yau upajee upamaa larabe kahu kehar so jan kehar aayo |2233|
In the same way, he fell upon Krishna in great fury and it seemd that in order to fight with a lion, the second lion had come.2233.
ਜੁਧ ਮੰਡਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸਿਵ ਤਾਪ ਹੁਤੋ ਇਕ ਸੋਊ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
judh manddiyo at hee tab hee siv taap huto ik soaoo sanbhaariyo |
Waging an extremely terrible war, Shiva held his lustrous Shakti (weapon)
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੁ ਭੇਦ ਸਭੈ ਲਹਿ ਕੈ ਜੁਰ ਸੀਤ ਸੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਪਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sayaam ju bhed sabhai leh kai jur seet su taahee kee or pachaariyo |
Understanding this mystery, Krishna discharged his snow-showering shaft towards Shiva,
ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਜੁਰ ਸੀਤ ਕਉ ਸੋ ਜੁਰ ਭਾਜਿ ਗਯੋ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dekhat hee jur seet kau so jur bhaaj gayo na ratee ku sanbhaariyo |
Seeing which that Shakti became powerless
ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਜੀਅ ਮੈ ਬਦਰਾ ਬਹਿਯੋ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਯਾਰ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੨੩੪॥
yau upamaa upajee jeea mai badaraa bahiyo jaat biyaar ko maariyo |2234|
It seemed that the cloud was flying away by the blow of wind.2234.
ਗਰਬ ਜਿਤੋ ਸਿਵ ਬੀਚ ਹੁਤੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਕੈ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਿਟਾਯੋ ॥
garab jito siv beech huto sabh hee har krudh kai judh mittaayo |
All the pride of Shiva was shattered in the war-arena
ਜੋ ਤਿਨ ਤੀਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਸਟ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਸਰ ਏਕ ਨੇ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jo tin teeran brisatt karee tih te sar ek ne bhettan paayo |
The shower of arrows discharged by Shiva could not strike even one arrow to Krishna
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਗਨ ਸੰਗ ਹੁਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਘਾਇ ਘਨੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਘਾਯੋ ॥
aaur jite gan sang hute sabh ko har ghaae ghane sang ghaayo |
All the ganas with Shiva were wounded by Krishna
ਐਸੋ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਪਉਰਖ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਗਨਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਸੋ ਲਪਟਾਯੋ ॥੨੨੩੫॥
aiso nihaar kai paurakh sayaam ganapat paaein so lapattaayo |2235|
In this way, seeing the power of Krishna, Shiva, the Lord of ganas fell at the feet of Krishna.2235.

Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਮੀ ਵਸੰਦੀ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਈਧਣੁ ਰਖੈ ਭਾਹਿ ॥
jimee vasandee paaneeai eedhan rakhai bhaeh |
The earth is in the water, and the fire is contained in the wood.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਆਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਆਢਲਿ ਹਭੁ ਕੋ ॥੨॥
naanak so sahu aaeh jaa kai aadtal habh ko |2|
O Nanak, yearn for that Lord, who is the Support of all. ||2||

ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਤੁਧੈ ਹੀ ਗੋਚਰੇ ॥
tere keete kam tudhai hee gochare |
The works which You have done, O Lord, could only have been performed by You.
ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤੈ ਜਗਿ ਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਧੁਰੇ ॥
soee varatai jag ji keea tudh dhure |
That alone happens in the world, which You, O Master, have done.
ਬਿਸਮੁ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੀਆ ॥
bisam bhe bisamaad dekh kudarat tereea |
I am wonderstruck beholding the wonder of Your Almighty Creative Power.
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਸ ਕਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
saran pare teree daas kar gat hoe mereea |
I seek Your Sanctuary - I am Your slave; if it is Your Will, I shall be emancipated.
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
terai hath nidhaan bhaavai tis dehi |
The treasure is in Your Hands; according to Your Will, You bestow it.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਇ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
jis no hoe deaal har naam see lehi |
One, upon whom You have bestowed Your Mercy, is blessed with the Lord's Name.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
agam agochar beant ant na paaeeai |
You are unapproachable, unfathomable and infinite; Your limits cannot be found.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧੧॥
jis no hohi kripaal su naam dhiaaeeai |11|
One, unto whom You have been compassionate, meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||11||

The ladles cruise through the food, but they do not know the taste of it.
ਸੇਈ ਮੁਖ ਦਿਸੰਨੑਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਿ ॥੧॥
seee mukh disana naanak rate prem ras |1|
I long to see the faces of those, O Nanak, who are imbued with the essence of the Lord's Love. ||1||

ਖੋਜੀ ਲਧਮੁ ਖੋਜੁ ਛਡੀਆ ਉਜਾੜਿ ॥

Through the Tracker, I discovered the tracks of those who ruined my crops.
ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਦਿਤੀ ਵਾੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਖੇਤੁ ਨ ਛਿਜਈ ॥੨॥

ਆਰਾਧਿਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
aaraadhihu sachaa soe sabh kichh jis paas |
Worship in adoration that True Lord; everything is under His Power.
ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਖਸਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
duhaa siriaa khasam aap khin meh kare raas |
He Himself is the Master of both ends; in an instant, He adjusts our affairs.
ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਗਹੁ ॥
tiaagahu sagal upaav tis kee ott gahu |
Renounce all your efforts, and hold fast to His Support.
ਪਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਲਹੁ ॥
pau saranaaee bhaj sukhee hoon sukh lahu |
Run to His Sanctuary, and you shall obtain the comfort of all comforts.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
karam dharam tat giaan santaa sang hoe |
The karma of good deeds, the righteousness of Dharma and the essence of spiritual wisdom are obtained in the Society of the Saints.
ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
japeeai amrit naam bighan na lagai koe |
Chanting the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, no obstacle shall block your way.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਿਆ ॥
jis no aap deaal tis man vutthiaa |
The Lord abides in the mind of one who is blessed by His Kindness.
ਪਾਈਅਨੑਿ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਤੁਠਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
paaeeana sabh nidhaan saahib tutthiaa |12|
All treasures are obtained, when the Lord and Master is pleased. ||12||

ਲਧਮੁ ਲਭਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੰਦੋ ਮਾ ਪਿਰੀ ॥
ladham labhanahaar karam karando maa piree |
I have found the object of my search - my Beloved took pity on me.
ਇਕੋ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਆ ਨ ਪਸੀਐ ॥੧॥
eiko sirajanahaar naanak biaa na paseeai |1|
There is One Creator; O Nanak, I do not see any other. ||1||

ਪਾਪੜਿਆ ਪਛਾੜਿ ਬਾਣੁ ਸਚਾਵਾ ਸੰਨੑਿ ਕੈ ॥

Take aim with the arrow of Truth, and shoot down sin.
ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੜਾ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਥੀਵਈ ॥੨॥
gur mantrarraa chitaar naanak dukh na theevee |2|
Cherish the Words of the Guru's Mantra, O Nanak, and you shall not suffer in pain. ||2||

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਠਾਢਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
vaahu vaahu sirajanahaar paaeean tthaadt aap |
Waaho! Waaho! The Creator Lord Himself has brought about peace and tranquility.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
jeea jant miharavaan tis no sadaa jaap |
He is Kind to all beings and creatures; meditate forever on Him.
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਿ ਚੁਕੇ ਬਿਲ ਬਿਲਾਪ ॥
deaa dhaaree samarath chuke bil bilaap |
The all-powerful Lord has shown Mercy, and my cries of suffering are ended.
ਨਠੇ ਤਾਪ ਦੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ॥
natthe taap dukh rog poore gur prataap |
My fevers, pains and diseases are gone, by the Grace of the Perfect Guru.
ਕੀਤੀਅਨੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਖ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
keeteean aapanee rakh gareeb nivaaj thaap |
The Lord has established me, and protected me; He is the Cherisher of the poor.
ਆਪੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਛਡਾਇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਪਿ ॥
aape leian chhaddaae bandhan sagal kaap |
He Himself has delivered me, breaking all my bonds.
ਤਿਸਨ ਬੁਝੀ ਆਸ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਨ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪਿ ॥
tisan bujhee aas punee man santokh dhraap |
My thirst is quenched, my hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is contented and satisfied.
ਵਡੀ ਹੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਖਸਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਪਾਪਿ ॥੧੩॥
vaddee hoon vaddaa apaar khasam jis lep na pun paap |13|
The greatest of the great, the Infinite Lord and Master - He is not affected by virtue and vice. ||13||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਈ ਜਪਾਤ ॥
jaa kau bhe kripaal prabh har har seee japaat |
They alone meditate on the Lord God, Har, Har, unto whom the Lord is Merciful.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਨ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਭੇਟਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਤ ॥੧॥
naanak preet lagee tin raam siau bhettat saadh sangaat |1|
O Nanak, they enshrine love for the Lord, meeting the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||

ਰਾਮੁ ਰਮਹੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
raam ramahu baddabhaageeho jal thal maheeal soe |
Contemplate the Lord, O very fortunate ones; He is pervading in the water, the land and the sky.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਅਰਾਧਿਐ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak naam araadhiai bighan na laagai koe |2|
O Nanak, worshipping the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal encounters no misfortune. ||2||

ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਵੈ ਥਾਇ ॥
bhagataa kaa boliaa paravaan hai daragah pavai thaae |
The speech of the devotees is approved; it is accepted in the Court of the Lord.
ਭਗਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਟੇਕ ਰਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
bhagataa teree ttek rate sach naae |
Your devotees take to Your Support; they are imbued with the True Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
jis no hoe kripaal tis kaa dookh jaae |
One unto whom You are Merciful, has his sufferings depart.
ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਓਨੑਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਪਾਇ ॥
bhagat tere deaal onaa mihar paae |
O Merciful Lord, You bless Your devotees with Your Grace.
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਡ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਪੋਹੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇ ॥
dookh darad vadd rog na pohe tis maae |
Suffering, pain, terrible disease and Maya do not afflict them.
ਭਗਤਾ ਏਹੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਇ ॥
bhagataa ehu adhaar gun govind gaae |
This is the Support of the devotees, that they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
sadaa sadaa din rain iko ik dhiaae |
Forever and ever, day and night, they meditate on the One and Only Lord.
ਪੀਵਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
peevat amrit naam jan naame rahe aghaae |14|
Drinking in the Ambrosial Amrit of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, His humble servants remain satisfied with the Naam. ||14||
