ਸੋ ਸਰ ਆਵਤ ਦੇਖ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਤ ਹੁਇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ॥
so sar aavat dekh kai krudhat hue brijanaath |
ਕਟਿ ਮਾਰਗ ਭੀਤਰ ਦਯੋ ਏਕ ਬਾਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੧੯੯੭॥
katt maarag bheetar dayo ek baan ke saath |1997|
Krishna got enraged, seeing that arrow coming and intercepted the same midway with his own arrow.1997.

SWAYYA
ਸਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਦਯੋ ਅਰੁ ਸੂਤ ਕੋ ਸੀਸ ਦਯੋ ਕਟਿ ਕੈ ॥
sar kaatt kai sayandan kaatt dayo ar soot ko sees dayo katt kai |
After intercepting the arrow, he shattered the chariot and chopped the head of the charioteer
ਅਰੁ ਚਾਰੋ ਹੀ ਅਸ੍ਵਨ ਸੀਸ ਕਟੇ ਬਹੁ ਢਾਲਨ ਕੇ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਝਟਿ ਕੈ ॥
ar chaaro hee asvan sees katte bahu dtaalan ke tab hee jhatt kai |
And with the blow of his arrow, and with jerks, he chopped the heads of all the four horses
ਫਿਰਿ ਦਉਰਿ ਚਪੇਟ ਚਟਾਕ ਹਨਿਓ ਗਿਰ ਗਯੋ ਜਬ ਚੋਟ ਲਗੀ ਭਟਿ ਕੈ ॥
fir daur chapett chattaak hanio gir gayo jab chott lagee bhatt kai |
Then running towards him, he struck him (Shishupal), who being hurt, fell down
ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਨ ਕਹੋ ਭਟ ਕਉਨ ਬੀਯੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜੋਊ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਸੋ ਅਟਕੈ ॥੧੯੯੮॥
tum hee na kaho bhatt kaun beeyo jag mai joaoo sayaam joo so attakai |1998|
Who is such a hero in the world, who can resist Krishna?1998.
ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਜਿਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਹਿਤ ਕੈ ਸੋਊ ਸ੍ਰੀਪਤਿ ਲੋਕਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਟਿਕਿਯੋ ॥
chit mai jin dhiaan dhariyo hit kai soaoo sreepat lokeh ko sattikiyo |
ਪਗ ਰੋਪ ਜੋਊ ਅਟਕਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਪਲ ਸੋ ਨ ਟਿਕਿਯੋ ॥
pag rop joaoo attakiyo prabhoo so kab sayaam kahai pal so na ttikiyo |
He, who meditated on the Lord, reached the abode of the Lord and whosoever, stabilising himself, fought in front of Krishna, he could not stay there even for an instant
ਅਟਕਿਯੋ ਜੋਊ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੋ ਬੇਧ ਕੈ ਲੋਕ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕਉ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਹਟਕਿਯੋ ॥
attakiyo joaoo prem so bedh kai lok chaliyo tih kau na kin hee hattakiyo |
Whosoever absorbed himself in his love, he, penetrating through all the worlds, realised the abode of the Lord without any obstruction
ਜਿਹ ਨੈਕੁ ਬਿਰੋਧ ਹੀਯੋ ਸਟਕਿਯੋ ਨਰ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਭੂਅ ਮੋ ਪਟਕਿਯੋ ॥੧੯੯੯॥
jih naik birodh heeyo sattakiyo nar so sabh hee bhooa mo pattakiyo |1999|
He, who opposed him, even slightly that individual was caught and knocked down on the ground.1999.
ਫਉਜ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਘਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਬਿਮੁੰਛਤ ਕੈ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
fauj bidaar ghanee brijanaath bimunchhat kai sisupaal giraayo |
After killing innumerable army, Krishna caused Shishupal to fall down unconscious
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੋ ਦਲੁ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੋਊ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਪਰਾਯੋ ॥
aaur jito dal tthaadto huto soaoo dekh dasaa kar traas paraayo |
The army that was standing there, seeing this situation fled away in fear
ਫੇਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਰਿ ਕੋਊ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
fer rahe tin ko bahu baar koaoo fir judh ke kaaj na aayo |
Though efforts were made to restrain them, but none of them returned for fighting
ਤਉ ਰੁਕਮੀ ਦਲ ਲੈ ਬਹੁਤੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਆਪਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੨੦੦੦॥
tau rukamee dal lai bahuto sang aapane aap hee judh ko dhaayo |2000|
Then Rukmi came for fighting alongwith a great deal of his army.2000.
ਬੀਰ ਬਡੇ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਦਿਸ ਕੇ ਰਿਸ ਸੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਉ ਮਾਰਨ ਧਾਏ ॥
beer badde ih kee dis ke ris so jadubeer kau maaran dhaae |
ਜਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਲਰੋ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥
jaat kahaa fir sayaam laro ham so sabh hee ih bhaat bulaae |
Form his side many warriors rushed forward, in great fury, went to kill Krishna and said, “O Krishna, where are you going? Fight with us,”
ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਹਨੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
te brijanaath hane sabh hee keh kai upamaa kab sayaam sunaae |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਹੇਰਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਦੀਆ ਕਹੁ ਟੂਟਿ ਪਰੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਤ ਨ ਆਏ ॥੨੦੦੧॥
maanahu her patang deea kahu ttoott pare fir jeet na aae |2001|
They were killed by Krishna like the moths, in search of the earthen lamp fall upon it, but do not return alive.2001.
ਜਬ ਸੈਨ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸਭੈ ਰੁਕਮੀ ਕੁਪ ਕੈ ਤਬ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਓ ॥
jab sain haniyo ghan sayaam sabhai rukamee kup kai tab aise kahio |
ਜਬ ਗੂਜਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਧਨ ਬਾਨ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਛਤ੍ਰਾਪਨ ਛਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਤੇ ਤੋ ਰਹਿਓ ॥
jab goojar hvai dhan baan gahiyo chhatraapan chhatrin te to rahio |
When the army was killed by Krishna, then, getting infuriated Rukmi said his army, “When Krishna, the milkman can hold the bow and arrows, then the Kshatriyas should also perform this task firmly”
ਜਿਮ ਬੋਲਤ ਥੋ ਬਧ ਕੈ ਸਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਿਮੁੰਛਤ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਸਿਖਾ ਤੇ ਗਹਿਓ ॥
jim bolat tho badh kai sar sayaam bimunchhat kai su sikhaa te gahio |
ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਮੂੰਡ ਕੋ ਮੂੰਡ ਦਯੋ ਉਪਹਾਸ ਕੈ ਜਿਉ ਚਿਤ ਬੀਚ ਚਹਿਓ ॥੨੦੦੨॥
geh kai tih moondd ko moondd dayo upahaas kai jiau chit beech chahio |2002|
When he was thus speaking, Krishna advanced forward and with his arrow made him unconscious and caught him by his top-knot and shaving his head made him look ridiculous.2002.

Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੋ ਅਪਨੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਭਰਿਆ ॥
jis maanukh peh krau benatee so apanai dukh bhariaa |
Whoever I approach to ask for help, I find him full of his own troubles.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
paarabraham jin ridai araadhiaa tin bhau saagar tariaa |1|
One who worships in his heart the Supreme Lord God, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ॥
gur har bin ko na brithaa dukh kaattai |
No one, except the Guru-Lord, can dispel our pain and sorrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਜਿ ਅਵਰ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਜਸੁ ਘਾਟੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh taj avar sevak je hoee hai tith maan mehat jas ghaattai |1| rahaau |
Forsaking God, and serving another, one's honor, dignity and reputation are decreased. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਸਨਬੰਧ ਸੈਨ ਸਾਕ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
maaeaa ke sanabandh sain saak kit hee kaam na aaeaa |
Relatives, relations and family bound through Maya are of no avail.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਨੀਚ ਕੁਲੁ ਊਚਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
har kaa daas neech kul aoochaa tis sang man baanchhat fal paaeaa |2|
The Lord's servant, although of lowly birth, is exalted. Associating with him, one obtains the fruits of his mind's desires. ||2||
ਲਾਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੀ ॥
laakh kott bikhiaa ke binjan taa meh trisan na boojhee |
Through corruption, one may obtain thousands and millions of enjoyments, but even so, his desires are not satisfied through them.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸੂਝੀ ॥੩॥
simarat naam kott ujeeaaraa basat agochar soojhee |3|
Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, millions of lights appear, and the incomprehensible is understood. ||3||
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਤੁਮੑਰੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
firat firat tumarai duaar aaeaa bhai bhanjan har raaeaa |
Wandering and roaming around, I have come to Your Door, Destroyer of fear, O Lord King.
ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਛੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥੭॥
saadh ke charan dhoor jan baachhai sukh naanak ihu paaeaa |4|6|7|
Servant Nanak yearns for the dust of the feet of the Holy; in it, he finds peace. ||4||6||7||

ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਗਰਭ ਮਾਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਾਸਾ ਊਹਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਧਰਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
prathame garabh maataa kai vaasaa aoohaa chhodd dharan meh aaeaa |
First, he came to dwell in his mother's womb; leaving it, he came into the world.
ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਲ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਗ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛਹੂ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
chitr saal sundar baag mandar sang na kachhahoo jaaeaa |1|
Splendid mansions, beautiful gardens and palaces - none of these shall go with him. ||1||
ਅਵਰ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਲੋਭ ਲਬੀ ॥
avar sabh mithiaa lobh labee |
All other greeds of the greedy are false.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਜੀਅ ਕਉ ਏਹਾ ਵਸਤੁ ਫਬੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur poorai deeo har naamaa jeea kau ehaa vasat fabee |1| rahaau |
The Perfect Guru has given me the Name of the Lord, which my soul has come to treasure. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਰਚਿ ਹਸਿਆ ॥
eisatt meet bandhap sut bhaaee sang banitaa rach hasiaa |
Surrounded by dear friends, relatives, children, siblings and spouse, he laughs playfully.
ਜਬ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਆਇ ਬਨਿਓ ਹੈ ਉਨੑ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ॥੨॥
jab antee aausar aae banio hai una pekhat hee kaal grasiaa |2|
But when the very last moment arrives, Death seizes him, while they merely look on. ||2||
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਨਰਥ ਬਿਹਾਝੀ ਸੰਪੈ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੂਪਾ ਦਾਮਾ ॥
kar kar anarath bihaajhee sanpai sueinaa roopaa daamaa |
By continual oppression and exploitation, he accumulates wealth, gold, silver and money,
ਭਾੜੀ ਕਉ ਓਹੁ ਭਾੜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਭਇਓ ਬਿਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
bhaarree kau ohu bhaarraa miliaa hor sagal bheo biraanaa |3|
but the load-bearer gets only paltry wages, while the rest of the money passes on to others. ||3||
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਰਥ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਗਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
haivar gaivar rath sanbaahe gahu kar keene mere |
He grabs and collects horses, elephants and chariots, and claims them as his own.
ਜਬ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ਲਾਂਮੀ ਧਾਈ ਚਲਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਕ ਪੈਰੇ ॥੪॥
jab te hoee laamee dhaaee chaleh naahee ik paire |4|
But when he sets out on the long journey, they will not go even one step with him. ||4||
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਰਾਜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
naam dhan naam sukh raajaa naam kuttanb sahaaee |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is my wealth; the Naam is my princely pleasure; the Naam is my family and helper.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਦੀਈ ਓਹ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥੧॥੮॥
naam sanpat gur naanak kau deeee oeh marai na aavai jaaee |5|1|8|
The Guru has given Nanak the wealth of the Naam; it neither perishes, nor comes or goes. ||5||1||8||

ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
dukh binase sukh keea nivaasaa trisanaa jalan bujhaaee |
My sorrows are ended, and I am filled with peace. The fire of desire within me has been quenched.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
naam nidhaan satiguroo drirraaeaa binas na aavai jaaee |1|
The True Guru has implanted the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; it neither dies, nor goes anywhere. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ॥
har jap maaeaa bandhan tootte |
Meditating on the Lord, the bonds of Maya are cut away.
ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhe kripaal deaal prabh mere saadhasangat mil chhootte |1| rahaau |
When my God becomes kind and compassionate, one joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and is emancipated. ||1||Pause||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
aatth pehar har ke gun gaavai bhagat prem ras maataa |
Twenty-four hours a day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, absorbed in loving devotional worship.
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਦੁਹੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
harakh sog duhu maeh niraalaa karanaihaar pachhaataa |2|
He remains unaffected by both fortune and misfortune, and he recognizes the Creator Lord. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥
jis kaa saa tin hee rakh leea sagal jugat ban aaee |
The Lord saves those who belong to Him, and all pathways are opened to them.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥੧॥੯॥
kahu naanak prabh purakh deaalaa keemat kehan na jaaee |3|1|9|
Says Nanak, the value of the Merciful Lord God cannot be described. ||3||1||9||
