ਸਭਾ ਬੀਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਸੋ ਹਲੀ ਕਹੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ॥
sabhaa beech sree krisan so halee kahai pun bain |
ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮਦਰਾ ਸੋ ਛਕੇ ਅਰੁਨ ਭਏ ਜੁਗ ਨੈਨ ॥੧੮੯੩॥
at hee madaraa so chhake arun bhe jug nain |1893|
In that gathering, Balram, with red eyes due to the impact of Varuni, said to Krishna,1893

ਦੀਬੋ ਕਛੁ ਮਯ ਪੀਯੋ ਘਨੋ ਕਹਿ ਸੂਰਨ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
deebo kachh may peeyo ghano keh sooran so ih bain sunaayo |
ਜੂਝਬੋ ਜੂਝ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੈਬੋ ਜੁਝਾਇਬੋ ਛਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੋ ਬਨਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
joojhabo joojh kai praan tajaibo jujhaaeibo chhatrin ko ban aayo |
“O warriors! Drink Varuni with pleasure and this is the duty of Kshatriyas to die while fighting
ਬਾਰੁਨੁ ਕਉ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਕਚੁ ਕੇ ਹਿਤ ਤੋ ਭ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰਾਯੋ ॥
baarun kau kab sayaam bhanai kach ke hit to bhrig nind karaayo |
Bhrigu had spoken against this Varuni (wine) in the episode of Kach-devyani
ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਿਨ ਸੋ ਇਹੀ ਰਸ ਕਉ ਰਸ ਦੇਵਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੯੪॥
raam kahai chaturaanin so ihee ras kau ras devan paayo |1894|
(Though this episode is related to Shukracharya), according to the poet Ram, the gods had obtained this extract (ambrosia) from Brahma.1894.

ਜੈਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਕੀਏ ਤੈਸੇ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਅਉਰ ॥

ਐਸੋ ਅਰਿ ਜਿਤ ਇੰਦਰ ਸੇ ਰਹਤ ਸੂਰ ਨਿਤ ਪਉਰਿ ॥੧੮੯੫॥
aiso ar jit indar se rehat soor nit paur |1895|
The comfort that was given by Krihsna, none other can give the same, because he conquered such an enemy, on whose feet, the gods like indra kept falling.1895.

ਰੀਝ ਕੈ ਦਾਨ ਦੀਓ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਨੁ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
reejh kai daan deeo jin kau tin maagan ko na kahoon man keeno |
Those, whom the gifts were given with delight, no desire of begging remained in them
ਕੋਪਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜੁ ਪੈ ਭੂਲ ਪਰੀ ਚਿਤ ਕੈ ਹਸਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
kop na kaahoo siau bain kahiyo ju pai bhool paree chit kai has deeno |
None of them talked in ire and even if someone faltered, the same was put off smilingly
ਦੰਡ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਲਯੋ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਖਲ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਛੂ ਧਨੁ ਛੀਨੋ ॥
dandd na kaahoon layo jan te khal maar na taa ko kachhoo dhan chheeno |
No one was punished now the wealth was seized from anyone by killing him
ਜੀਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨ ਦਯੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਅਰਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਜ ਇਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੮੯੬॥
jeet na jaan dayo grih ko ar sree brijaraaj ihai brat leeno |1896|
Krishna had also vowed that none should go back after becoming victorious.1896.
ਜੋ ਭੂਅ ਕੋ ਨਲ ਰਾਜ ਭਏ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
jo bhooa ko nal raaj bhe kab sayaam kahai sukh haath na aayo |
The comfort that was not obtained by the king Nal on becoming the sovereign of the earth
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ਤਬੈ ਮੁਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਬੈ ਜਮ ਧਾਮਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
so sukh bhoom na paayo tabai mur maar jabai jam dhaam patthaayo |
The comfort that was not obtained by the earth after killing the demon named Mur
ਜੋ ਹਰਿਨਾਕਸ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਸਮੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੁ ਨ ਦਰਸਾਯੋ ॥
jo harinaakas bhraat samet bhayo supane prith na darasaayo |
The happiness that was not sighted on the killing of Hiranayakshipu,
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕੀ ਜੀਤ ਭਏ ਅਪਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਪੁਹਮੀ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੯੭॥
so sukh kaanrah kee jeet bhe apane chit mai puhamee at paayo |1897|
That comfort was obtained by the earth in her mind on the victory of Krishna.1897.
ਜੋਰਿ ਘਟਾ ਘਨਘੋਰ ਘਨੈ ਜੁਰਿ ਗਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਕੋਊ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਗਾਜੈ ॥
jor ghattaa ghanaghor ghanai jur gaajat hai koaoo aaur na gaajai |
Decorating their weapons on their limbs, the warriors are thundering like the thick clouds
ਆਯੁਧ ਸੂਰ ਸਜੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਆਯੁਧ ਅੰਗਹਿ ਸਾਜੈ ॥
aayudh soor sajai apane kar aan na aayudh angeh saajai |
The drums that are played at the door of someone on the occasion of marriage,
ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਦੁਆਰ ਬਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਦੁਆਰਹਿ ਬਾਜੈ ॥
dundabh duaar bajai prabh ke bin bayaah na kaahoon ke duaareh baajai |
They were being played on the doors of Krishna
ਪਾਪ ਨ ਹੋ ਕਹੂੰ ਪੁਰ ਮੈ ਜਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਿਤ ਧਰਮ ਹੀ ਧਰਮ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥੧੮੯੮॥
paap na ho kahoon pur mai jit hee kit dharam hee dharam biraajai |1898|
There was righteousness reigning supreme within the city and the sin could not be seen anywhere.1898.

I have described with affection this war of Krishna
ਜਿਹ ਲਾਲਚ ਇਹ ਮੈ ਰਚਿਯੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਹੈ ਬਰੁ ਦੇਹਿ ॥੧੮੯੯॥
jih laalach ih mai rachiyo mohi vahai bar dehi |1899|
O Lord! The temptation for which I have related it, kindly bestow on me that boon.1899.

ਹੇ ਰਵਿ ਹੇ ਸਸਿ ਹੇ ਕਰੁਨਾਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਬੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
he rav he sas he karunaanidh meree abai binatee sun leejai |
O Surya! O Chandra! O merciful Lord! listen to a request of mine, I am not asking for anything else from you
ਅਉਰ ਨ ਮਾਗਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਹਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
aaur na maagat hau tum te kachh chaahat hau chit mai soee keejai |
Whatever I wish in my mind, by that with Thy Grace
ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਕਹਿ ਸਾਚ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥
sasatran so at hee ran bheetar joojh maro keh saach pateejai |
If I fall a martyr while fighting with my enemies then I shall think that I have realised Truth
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧੯੦੦॥
sant sahaae sadaa jag maae kripaa kar sayaam ihai var deejai |1900|
O Sustainer of the Universe! I may always help the saints in this world and destroy the tyrants, bestow this boon on me.1900.
ਜਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਇਛ ਕਰੋ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਤਉ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਸਨ ਦੇਸ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ॥
jau kichh ichh karo dhan kee tau chaliyo dhan desan des te aavai |
When I wish for the wealth, it comes to me from my country and from abroad
ਅਉ ਸਬ ਰਿਧਨ ਸਿਧਨ ਪੈ ਹਮਰੋ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਹੀਯੋ ਲਲਚਾਵੈ ॥
aau sab ridhan sidhan pai hamaro nahee naik heeyo lalachaavai |
I have no temptation for any miraculous powers
ਅਉਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਕਛੁ ਜੋਗ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਹਿ ਕਉਨ ਇਤੋ ਤਪੁ ਕੈ ਤਨੁ ਤਾਵੈ ॥
aaur suno kachh jog bikhai keh kaun ito tap kai tan taavai |
The science of Yoga is of no use to me
ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਭੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੯੦੧॥
joojh maro ran mai taj bhai tum te prabh sayaam ihai var paavai |1901|
Because spending time on that, there is no useful realisation from the physical austerities, O Lord! I beg for this boon from Thee that I may fearlessly fall a martyr in the battlefield.1901.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਲੋਕ ਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
poor rahiyo sigare jag mai ab lau har ko jas lok su gaavai |
ਸਿਧ ਮੁਨੀਸ੍ਵਰ ਈਸ੍ਵਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਜੌ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਗੁਨ ਬ︀ਯਾਸ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
sidh muneesvar eesvar braham ajau bal ko gun bayaas sunaavai |
The praise of the Lord pervades the whole universe and this eulogy is being sung by Siddhas (adepts), the highest of sages, Shiva, Brahma, Vyas etc.
ਅਤ੍ਰਿ ਪਰਾਸੁਰ ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਕ ਸੇਸ ਨ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
atr paraasur naarad saarad sree suk ses na anteh paavai |
His mystery has not been comprehended even by the sage Atri, Parashar, Narada, Sharda, Sheshnaga etc.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਬਿਤਨ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਬਿ ਕਉਨ ਰਿਝਾਵੈ ॥੧੯੦੨॥
taa ko kabitan mai kab sayaam kahiyo keh kai kab kaun rijhaavai |1902|
The poet Shyam has described it in poetic stanzas, O Lord! how can I then please Thee by describing THY glory?1902.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿ ਚੀਨੑਸੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਨ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥
paarabraham ji cheenasee aasaa te na bhaavasee |
One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God, dislikes other desires.
ਰਾਮਾ ਭਗਤਹ ਚੇਤੀਅਲੇ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖਸੀ ॥੧॥
raamaa bhagatah cheteeale achint man raakhasee |1|
He focuses his consciousness on the Lord's devotional worship, and keeps his mind free of anxiety. ||1||
ਕੈਸੇ ਮਨ ਤਰਹਿਗਾ ਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੋ ਬਨਾ ॥
kaise man tarahigaa re sansaar saagar bikhai ko banaa |
O my mind, how will you cross over the world-ocean, if you are filled with the water of corruption?
ਝੂਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭੂਲਾ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jhootthee maaeaa dekh kai bhoolaa re manaa |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon the falseness of Maya, you have gone astray, O my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਛੀਪੇ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੈਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਭੈਲਾ ॥
chheepe ke ghar janam dailaa gur upades bhailaa |
You have given me birth in the house of a calico-printer, but I have found the Teachings of the Guru.

The deer, the fish, the bumble bee, the moth and the elephant are destroyed, each for a single defect.
ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਅਸਾਧ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਆਸ ॥੧॥
panch dokh asaadh jaa meh taa kee ketak aas |1|
So the one who is filled with the five incurable vices - what hope is there for him? ||1||
ਮਾਧੋ ਅਬਿਦਿਆ ਹਿਤ ਕੀਨ ॥
maadho abidiaa hit keen |
O Lord, he is in love with ignorance.
ਬਿਬੇਕ ਦੀਪ ਮਲੀਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

His lamp of clear wisdom has grown dim. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਅਚੇਤ ਸੰਭਵ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਅਸੋਚ ॥
trigad jon achet sanbhav pun paap asoch |
The creeping creatures live thoughtless lives, and cannot discriminate between good and evil.
ਮਾਨੁਖਾ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਦੁਲਭ ਤਿਹੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੋਚ ॥੨॥
maanukhaa avataar dulabh tihee sangat poch |2|
It is so difficult to obtain this human incarnation, and yet, they keep company with the low. ||2||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਲਗੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jeea jant jahaa jahaa lag karam ke bas jaae |
Wherever the beings and creatures are, they are born according to the karma of their past actions.
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਅਬਧ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੩॥
kaal faas abadh laage kachh na chalai upaae |3|
The noose of death is unforgiving, and it shall catch them; it cannot be warded off. ||3||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਤਜੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਪਨ ਤਪੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
ravidaas daas udaas taj bhram tapan tap gur giaan |
O servant Ravi Daas, dispel your sorrow and doubt, and know that Guru-given spiritual wisdom is the penance of penances.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਭੈ ਹਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੪॥੧॥
bhagat jan bhai haran paramaanand karahu nidaan |4|1|
O Lord, Destroyer of the fears of Your humble devotees, make me supremely blissful in the end. ||4||1||

ਸੰਤ ਤੁਝੀ ਤਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥

Your Saints are Your body, and their company is Your breath of life.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਸੰਤ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥
satigur giaan jaanai sant devaa dev |1|
By the True Guru-given spiritual wisdom, I know the Saints as the gods of gods. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਕਥਾ ਰਸੁ ॥
sant chee sangat sant kathaa ras |
O Lord, God of gods, grant me the Society of the Saints,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਾਝੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The sublime essence of the Saints' conversation, and the Love of the Saints. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਆਚਰਣ ਸੰਤ ਚੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੰਤ ਚ ਓਲ੍ਹਗ ਓਲ੍ਹਗਣੀ ॥੨॥
sant aacharan sant cho maarag sant ch olhag olhaganee |2|
The Character of the Saints, the lifestyle of the Saints, and the service of the servant of the Saints. ||2||
ਅਉਰ ਇਕ ਮਾਗਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਣਿ ॥
aaur ik maagau bhagat chintaaman |
I ask for these, and for one thing more - devotional worship, which shall fulfill my desires.
ਜਣੀ ਲਖਾਵਹੁ ਅਸੰਤ ਪਾਪੀ ਸਣਿ ॥੩॥
janee lakhaavahu asant paapee san |3|
Do not show me the wicked sinners. ||3||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਭਣੈ ਜੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
ravidaas bhanai jo jaanai so jaan |
Says Ravi Daas, he alone is wise, who knows this:
ਸੰਤ ਅਨੰਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੨॥

ਤੁਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਹਮ ਇਰੰਡ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਬਾਸਾ ॥
tum chandan ham irandd baapure sang tumaare baasaa |
You are sandalwood, and I am the poor castor oil plant, dwelling close to you.
ਨੀਚ ਰੂਖ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਗੰਧ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
neech rookh te aooch bhe hai gandh sugandh nivaasaa |1|
From a lowly tree, I have become exalted; Your fragrance, Your exquisite fragrance now permeates me. ||1||
ਮਾਧਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥
maadhau satasangat saran tumaaree |
O Lord, I seek the Sanctuary of the company of Your Saints;
ਹਮ ਅਉਗਨ ਤੁਮੑ ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I am worthless, and You are so benevolent. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮ ਮਖਤੂਲ ਸੁਪੇਦ ਸਪੀਅਲ ਹਮ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਜਸ ਕੀਰਾ ॥
tum makhatool suped sapeeal ham bapure jas keeraa |
You are the white and yellow threads of silk, and I am like a poor worm.

Prosperity, adversity, property and wealth are just Maya.
ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਤੇਰੋ ਜਨੁ ॥੨॥

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਤੇਰੋ ਜਨ ॥
