ਜਿਹ ਸੁਭਟਨ ਬਲਿ ਲਰਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਇ ॥
jih subhattan bal larat hai te sabh ge paraae |
“The warriors on whose strength you are fighting, they have all fled away
ਕੈ ਲਰ ਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਗ ਸਠਿ ਕੈ ਪਗ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੮੪੭॥
kai lar mar kai bhaag satth kai pag har ke paae |1847|
Therefore O fool! either run away while fighting or fall down at the feet of Krishna.”1847.

ਕਹਾ ਭਯੋ ਮਮ ਓਰ ਕੇ ਸੂਰ ਹਨੇ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਿ ॥
kahaa bhayo mam or ke soor hane sangraam |
ਲਰਬੋ ਮਰਬੋ ਜੀਤਬੋ ਇਹ ਸੁਭਟਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਿ ॥੧੮੪੮॥
larabo marabo jeetabo ih subhattan ke kaam |1848|
“What if the warriors of my side have been killed, the tasks of the warriors are fighting, dying or gaining victory.”1848.

ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਭੂਪ ਹਲੀ ਕਹੁ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
yau keh kai man kop bhariyo tab bhoop halee kahu baan chalaayo |
Saying this, in great fury, the king shot an arrow towards Balram
ਲਾਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਨਟ ਸਾਲ ਭਯੋ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
laagat hee natt saal bhayo tan mai balibhadr mahaa dukh paayo |
Which when hit him, gave him extreme agony
ਮੂਰਛ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਬੀਚ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
moorachh hvai kar sayandan beech giriyo tih ko kab nai jas gaayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਬਾਨ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਡਸਿਯੋ ਧਨ ਧਾਮ ਸਬੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੪੯॥
maanahu baan bhujang ddasiyo dhan dhaam sabai man te bisaraayo |1849|
He became unconscious and fell in his chariot as if the snake-like arrow had stung him and he had fallen down forgetting his wealth and home.1849.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਚਿਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
bahuro chit chet bhayo baladev chite ar ke at kop badtaayo |
When Balram regained consciousness, he became extremely enraged
ਭਾਰੀ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕਾਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
bhaaree gadaa geh kai kar mai nrip ke badh kaaran taaran aayo |
He caught hold of his huge mace and got ready again in the battlefield in order to kill the enemy
ਪਾਉ ਪਿਆਦੇ ਹੁਇ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਇਤ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
paau piaade hue sayandan te kab sayaam kahai it bhaat sidhaayo |
ਅਉਰ ਕਿਸੀ ਭਟ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ਨਹੀ ਕਬਿ ਦਉਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨੇ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੫੦॥
aaur kisee bhatt jaaniyo nahee kab daur pariyo nrip ne lakh paayo |1850|
Leaving his chariot, he ran away even on foot and none could see him except the king.1850.
ਆਵਤ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਭਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋਪਮਈ ਹੈ ॥
aavat dekh halaayudh ko su bhayo tab hee nrip kopamee hai |
ਜੁਧ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਸਮੁਹਾਇ ਭਯੋ ਨਿਜ ਪਾਨਿ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੁ ਤਾਨਿ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥
judh hee kau samuhaae bhayo nij paan kamaan su taan lee hai |
Seeing Balram coming, the king got enraged and pulling his bow with his hand, he got ready for war
ਲ੍ਰਯਾਇਓ ਹੁਤੇ ਚਪਲਾ ਸੀ ਗਦਾ ਸਰ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਸੋਊ ਕਾਟ ਦਈ ਹੈ ॥
lrayaaeo hute chapalaa see gadaa sar ek hee siau soaoo kaatt dee hai |
ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਨ ਕੀ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰਹਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਆਸ ਦੁਟੂਕ ਭਈ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੫੧॥
satru ko maaran kee balibhadreh maanahu aas duttook bhee hai |1851|
He intercepted the mace coming like lightning and in this way, the hope of Balram for killing the enemy was shattered.1851.
ਕਾਟ ਗਦਾ ਜਬ ਐਸੇ ਦਈ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਬਲਿ ਢਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰੀ ॥
kaatt gadaa jab aise dee tab hee bal dtaal kripaan sanbhaaree |
When the king intercepted the mace, then Balram took up his sword and shield
ਧਾਇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰਨਿ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਸੰਕ ਕਛੂ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
dhaae chaliyo ar maaran kaaran sank kachhoo chit mai na bichaaree |
He marched forward to kill the enemy fearlessly
ਭੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਆਵਤ ਕੋ ਗਰਜਿਯੋ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਨਨਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
bhoop nihaar kai aavat ko garajiyo barakhaa kar baanan bhaaree |
The king seeing him coming showered his arrows and thundered
ਢਾਲ ਦਈ ਸਤ ਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਧਾ ਕਰ ਡਾਰੀ ॥੧੮੫੨॥
dtaal dee sat dhaa kar kai kar kee karavaar tridhaa kar ddaaree |1852|
He cut the shield of Balram into one hundred parts and the sword into three parts.1852.
ਢਾਲ ਕਟੀ ਤਰਵਾਰਿ ਗਈ ਕਟਿ ਐਸੇ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dtaal kattee taravaar gee katt aise halaayudh sayaam nihaariyo |
ਮਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਯੌ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਝਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
maarat hai bal ko ab hee nrip yau apune man maajh bichaariyo |
Krishna saw Balram with his broken shield and sword and on this side, the king Jarasandh thought of killing him at the same instant
ਚਕ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਤਬੈ ਕਰਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਹੇਤ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਬਲ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
chakr sanbhaar muraar tabai kar judh ke het chaliyo bal dhaariyo |
Then Krishna moved forward for fighting, holding his discus
ਰੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੂ ਭਿਰ ਮੋ ਸੰਗ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਰਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਇਮ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮੫੩॥
re nrip too bhir mo sang aae kai raam bhanai im sayaam pukaariyo |1853|
According to the poet Ram, he began to challenge the king for fighting.1853.
ਯੌ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਜੂਝ ਮਚਾਵਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਆਯੋ ॥
yau bateeyaa ran mai sun bhoopat joojh machaavan sayaam siau aayo |
Hearing the challenge of Krishna, the king marched forward for waging war
ਰੋਸਿ ਬਢਾਇ ਘਨੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਰ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਨਿ ਚਢਾਯੋ ॥
ros badtaae ghano chit mai kar ke bar so dhan taan chadtaayo |
He got enraged and fitted his arrow in his bow
ਦੀਰਘ ਕਉਚ ਸਜੇ ਤਨ ਮੋ ਕਬਿ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜਸੁ ਇਉ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥
deeragh kauch saje tan mo kab ke man mai jas iau upajaayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਜੁਧ ਸਮੇ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਰਾਵਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੮੫੪॥
maanahu judh same ris kai raghunaath ke aoopar raavan aayo |1854|
Because of the thick armour on his body, the king Jarasandh appeared like Ravana falling on Ram, being highly enraged in the war.1854.
ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਤਉ ਧਨੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
aavat bhayo nrip sayaam ke saamuhe tau dhan sree brijanaath sanbhaariyo |
ਧਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਕਛੂ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dhaavat bhayo hit te har saamuhe traas kachhoo chit mai na bichaariyo |
Seeing the king coming in front of him, Krishna held up his bow and came before the king fearlessly
ਕਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਤਾਨਿ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੁ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਪੈ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kaan pramaan lau taan kamaan su baan lai satr ke chhatr pai maariyo |
Pulling the bow upto his ear, he shot his arrow on the canopy of the enemy and in an instant, the canopy fell down and broke into bits
ਖੰਡ ਹੁਇ ਖੰਡ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਛਿਤ ਮੈ ਮਨੋ ਚੰਦ ਕੋ ਰਾਹੁ ਨੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮੫੫॥
khandd hue khandd giriyo chhit mai mano chand ko raahu ne maar bidaariyo |1855|
It seemed that Rahu had broken the moon into fragments.1855.
ਛਤ੍ਰ ਕਟਿਓ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
chhatr kattio nrip ko jab hee tab hee man bhoopat kop bhayo hai |
With the chopping down of the canopy, the king got highly infuriated
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੀ ਓਰ ਕੁਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਚਿਤੈ ਕਰਿ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਹਾਥਿ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sayaam kee or kudrisatt chitai kar ugr saraasan haath layo hai |
And he, looking towards Krishna with evil glance, took his dreadful bow in his hand
ਜੋਰ ਸੋ ਖੈਚਨ ਲਾਗਿਯੋ ਤਹਾ ਨਹਿ ਐਚ ਸਕੇ ਕਰ ਕੰਪ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
jor so khaichan laagiyo tahaa neh aich sake kar kanp bhayo hai |
He began to pull the bow with force, but his hand trembled and the bow could not be pulled
ਲੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਚਾਪ ਚਟਾਕ ਦੈ ਕਾਟਿ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੫੬॥
lai dhan baan muraar tabai tih chaap chattaak dai kaatt dayo hai |1856|
At the same time, Krishna with his bow and arrows intercepted with jerk the bow of Jarasandh.1856.
ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਜ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਦਯੋ ਤਬ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋਪੁ ਕੀਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥
brijaraaj saraasan kaatt dayo tab bhoopat kop keeyo man mai |
ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਲ ਧਾਰਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੇ ਗਨ ਮੈ ॥
karavaar sanbhaar mahaa bal dhaar hakaar pariyo rip ke gan mai |
When Krishna intercepted the bow or Jarasandh, he, getting, enraged and challenging, took his sword in his hand and fell upon the enemy’s army
ਤਹਾ ਢਾਲ ਸੋ ਢਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੋ ਯੌ ਅਟਕੇ ਖਟਕੇ ਰਨ ਮੈ ॥
tahaa dtaal so dtaal kripaan kripaan so yau attake khattake ran mai |
ਮਨੋ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਦਵਾਨਲ ਕੀ ਲਪਟੈ ਚਟਕੈ ਪਟਕੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਜਿਉ ਬਨ ਮੈ ॥੧੮੫੭॥
mano jvaal davaanal kee lapattai chattakai pattakai trin jiau ban mai |1857|
The shield collided with the shield and the sword with the sword in such a way as if straw were producing a cracking sound on burning, having been set on fire in the forest.1857.
ਘੂਮਤ ਘਾਇਲ ਹੁਇ ਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਕ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਭਰੇ ਭਭਕਾਤੇ ॥
ghoomat ghaaeil hue ik beer firai ik sraun bhare bhabhakaate |
Someone, getting wounded, was roaming, thworing away blood and someone was roaming without head, becoming only a headless trunk
ਏਕ ਕਬੰਧ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੀਸ ਲਖੈ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਇਰ ਹੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੇ ॥
ek kabandh firai bin sees lakhai tin kaaeir hai bilalaate |
Seeing which the cowards are getting frightened
ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਇਕ ਆਹਵ ਕੌ ਇਕ ਡੋਲਤ ਜੁਧਹਿ ਕੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
tayaag chale ik aahav kau ik ddolat judheh ke rang raate |
Some of the warriors, leaving the war-fray are running away
ਏਕ ਪਰੇ ਭਟ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੋ ਸੋਵਤ ਹੈ ਮਦਰਾ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੧੮੫੮॥
ek pare bhatt praan binaa mano sovat hai madaraa mad maate |1858|
Some of them are absorbed in war, getting intoxicated, some warriors are lying lifeless like the ones highly intoxicated after drinking wine.1858.
ਜਾਦਵ ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਭਰੇ ਗਹਿ ਆਯੁਧਿ ਸੰਧ ਜਰਾ ਪਹਿ ਧਾਵਤ ॥
jaadav je at krodh bhare geh aayudh sandh jaraa peh dhaavat |
In extreme fury, the Yadavas, holding their weapons, have fallen on Jarasandh
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਸਿਰਦਾਰ ਬਲੀ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਤ ॥
aaur jite siradaar balee karavaar sanbhaar hakaar bulaavat |
The mighty warriors, taking up their swords are challenging all
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਲੈ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਓਰਿ ਚਲਾਵਤ ॥
bhoopat paan lai baan kamaan gumaan bhariyo rip or chalaavat |
The king Jarasandh, taking his bow in his hand, is proudly discharging his arrows towards the enemies and
ਏਕ ਹੀ ਬਾਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਾਥ ਸੁ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਹੁਇ ਆਵਤ ॥੧੮੫੯॥
ek hee baan ke saath kee bin maath su naath anaath hue aavat |1859|
Even with a single arrow, he is routing many, making them headless.1859.
ਏਕਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਜ ਕਾਟਿ ਦਈ ਅਰੁ ਏਕਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥
ekan kee bhuj kaatt dee ar ekan ke sir kaatt giraae |
He cut down the arm of someone and caused the head of someone fall down after cutting it
ਜਾਦਵ ਏਕ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਪੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਲਗਾਏ ॥
jaadav ek kee birathee pun sree jadubeer ke teer lagaae |
Some Yadava was deprived of his chariot, then he shot an arrow towards Krishna
ਅਉਰ ਹਨੇ ਗਜਰਾਜ ਘਨੌ ਬਰ ਬਾਜ ਬਨੇ ਹਨਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥
aaur hane gajaraaj ghanau bar baaj bane han bhoom giraae |
He got many horses and elephants killed and fell on the ground
ਜੋਗਿਨ ਭੂਤ ਪਿਸਾਚ ਸਿੰਗਾਲਨ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਤ ਸਾਗਰ ਮਾਝ ਅਨਾਏ ॥੧੮੬੦॥
jogin bhoot pisaach singaalan sraunat saagar maajh anaae |1860|
And the Yoginis, ghosts, fiends, jackals etc., began to bathe in the sea of blood in the battlefield.1860.
ਬੀਰ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਭੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪਮਈ ਹੈ ॥
beer sanghaar kai sree jadubeer ke bhoop bhayo at kopamee hai |
After killing the warriors of Krishna, the king became extremely angry and
ਜੁਧ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਨ ਦੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਨ ਕੀ ਸਿਗਰੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਭੂਲਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥
judh bikhai man det bhayo tan kee sigaree sudh bhool gee hai |
He was absorbed in fighting to such an extent that he forgot the consciousness of his body and mind
ਐਨ ਹੀ ਸੈਨ ਹਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਪਰੀ ਛਿਤ ਮੈ ਬਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਭਈ ਹੈ ॥
ain hee sain hanee prabh kee su paree chhit mai bin praan bhee hai |
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸੀਸਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੂਰਨ ਹੂੰ ਕੀ ਜਗਾਤਿ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੬੧॥
bhoopat maanahu seesan kee sabh sooran hoon kee jagaat lee hai |1861|
He destroyed the army of Krishna and scattered it on the earth, it appeared that the king had realized the tax of their heads from the warriors.1861.
ਛਾਡਿ ਦਏ ਜਿਤ ਸਾਚ ਕੈ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਮਨ ਝੂਠ ਨ ਭਾਯੋ ॥
chhaadd de jit saach kai maanahu maar de man jhootth na bhaayo |
Those who wanted to be on the side of truth, they were released and those who sided with falsehood, they were knocked down
ਜੋ ਭਟ ਘਾਇਲ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੇ ਮਨੋ ਦੋਸ ਕੀਯੋ ਕਛੁ ਦੰਡੁ ਦਿਵਾਯੋ ॥
jo bhatt ghaaeil bhoom pare mano dos keeyo kachh dandd divaayo |
The wounded warriors were lying in the battlefield like the punished criminals
ਏਕ ਹਨੇ ਕਰ ਪਾਇਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਜੈਸੋ ਕੀਯੋ ਫਲ ਤੈਸੋ ਈ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
ek hane kar paaein te jin jaiso keeyo fal taiso ee paayo |
Many were killed by cutting their hands and feet, everyone received the reward of his actions
ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਬੈਠ ਕੈ ਸੂਰਨ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਿਆਉ ਚੁਕਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੬੨॥
raaj singhaasan sayandan baitth kai sooran ke nrip niaau chukaayo |1862|
It appeared that king sitting on chariot as throne was imparting justice regarding the sinner and sinless.1862.
ਜਬ ਭੂਪ ਇਤੋ ਰਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਬ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
jab bhoop ito ran paavat bhayo tab sree brij naaeik kop bhariyo |
Seeing such a dreadful war of the king, Krishna was filled with rage and
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਜਾਇ ਕੇ ਜੂਝ ਮਚਾਤ ਭਯੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
nrip saamuhe jaae ke joojh machaat bhayo chit mai na ratee ku ddariyo |
Abandoning the fear began terrible fighting in front if the king
ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਸਾਇਕ ਏਕ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਉਰਿ ਲਾਗ ਕੈ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥
brij naaeik saaeik ek hanayo nrip ko ur laag kai bhoom pariyo |
An arrow of Krishna struck the heart of the king and he fell down on the earth
ਇਮ ਮੇਦ ਸੋ ਬਾਨ ਚਖਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਪੰਨਗ ਦੂਧ ਕੋ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮੬੩॥
eim med so baan chakhiyo nrip ko mano panag doodh ko paan kariyo |1863|
The arrow of Krishna, penetrated in such a way in the white marrow of the king that it seemed like a snake drinking milk.1863.
ਸਹਿ ਕੈ ਸਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਇਕ ਬਾਨ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
seh kai sar sree har ko ur mai nrip sayaam hee kau ik baan lagaayo |
ਸੂਤ ਕੇ ਏਕ ਲਗਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਸਰ ਦਾਰੁਕ ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
soot ke ek lagaavat bhayo sar daaruk laagat hee dukh paayo |
Enduring the arrow of Krishna, which struck his heart, the king shot an arrow towards Krishna, which hit Daruk, whom it caused great agony
ਹੁਇ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਈ ਚਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਰਥੁ ਆਸਨ ਨ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
hue bisanbhaar giriyo ee chahai tih ko rath aasan na tthaharaayo |
ਤਾਹੀ ਸਮੈ ਚਪਲੰਗ ਤੁਰੰਗਨਿ ਆਪਨੀ ਚਾਲ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥੧੮੬੪॥
taahee samai chapalang turangan aapanee chaal ko roop dikhaayo |1864|
He was about to fall from his seat in the chariot, when the brisk horses exhibited their speed and fled.1864.

ਤਨੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਪੁਨ ਰਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਉ ਪਾਚਉ ਤਤ ਬਰਾਤੀ ॥
tan rainee man pun rap kar hau paachau tat baraatee |
I make my body the dying vat, and within it, I dye my mind. I make the five elements my marriage guests.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਿਉ ਭਾਵਰਿ ਲੈਹਉ ਆਤਮ ਤਿਹ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
raam raae siau bhaavar laihau aatam tih rang raatee |1|
I take my marriage vows with the Lord, my King; my soul is imbued with His Love. ||1||
ਗਾਉ ਗਾਉ ਰੀ ਦੁਲਹਨੀ ਮੰਗਲਚਾਰਾ ॥
gaau gaau ree dulahanee mangalachaaraa |
Sing, sing, O brides of the Lord, the marriage songs of the Lord.
ਮੇਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਏ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਭਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The Lord, my King, has come to my house as my Husband. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਭਿ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਬੇਦੀ ਰਚਿ ਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
naabh kamal meh bedee rach le braham giaan uchaaraa |
Within the lotus of my heart, I have made my bridal pavilion, and I have spoken the wisdom of God.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸੋ ਦੂਲਹੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਸ ਬਡਭਾਗ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam raae so doolahu paaeo as baddabhaag hamaaraa |2|
I have obtained the Lord King as my Husband - such is my great good fortune. ||2||
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਕਉਤਕ ਆਏ ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਉਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
sur nar mun jan kautak aae kott tetees ujaanaan |
The angles, holy men, silent sages, and the 330,000,000 deities have come in their heavenly chariots to see this spectacle.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਹਿ ਚਲੇ ਹੈ ਪੁਰਖ ਏਕ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥੨॥੨੪॥
keh kabeer mohi biaaeh chale hai purakh ek bhagavaanaa |3|2|24|
Says Kabeer, I have been taken in marriage by the One Supreme Being, the Lord God. ||3||2||24||

ਸਾਸੁ ਕੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਸਸੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੇਠ ਕੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਡਰਉ ਰੇ ॥
saas kee dukhee sasur kee piaaree jetth ke naam ddrau re |
I am bothered by my mother-in-law, Maya, and loved by my father-in-law, the Lord. I fear even the name of my husband's elder brother, Death.
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਨਨਦ ਗਹੇਲੀ ਦੇਵਰ ਕੈ ਬਿਰਹਿ ਜਰਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
sakhee sahelee nanad gahelee devar kai bireh jrau re |1|
O my mates and companions, my husband's sister, misunderstanding has seized me, and I am burning with the pain of separation from my husband's younger brother, divine knowledge. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਬਉਰੀ ਮੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਰਹਉ ਰੇ ॥
meree mat bauree mai raam bisaario kin bidh rehan rhau re |
My mind has gone insane, since I forgot the Lord. How can I lead a virtuous lifestyle?
ਸੇਜੈ ਰਮਤੁ ਨੈਨ ਨਹੀ ਪੇਖਉ ਇਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾ ਸਉ ਕਹਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sejai ramat nain nahee pekhau ihu dukh kaa sau khau re |1| rahaau |
He rests in the bed of my mind, but I cannot see Him with my eyes. Unto whom should I tell my sufferings? ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਪੁ ਸਾਵਕਾ ਕਰੈ ਲਰਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਦ ਮਤਵਾਰੀ ॥
baap saavakaa karai laraaee maaeaa sad matavaaree |
My step-father, egotism, fights with me, and my mother, desire, is always intoxicated.
ਬਡੇ ਭਾਈ ਕੈ ਜਬ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤੀ ਤਬ ਹਉ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
badde bhaaee kai jab sang hotee tab hau naah piaaree |2|
When I stayed with my elder brother, meditation, then I was loved by my Husband Lord. ||2||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਪੰਚ ਕੋ ਝਗਰਾ ਝਗਰਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
kehat kabeer panch ko jhagaraa jhagarat janam gavaaeaa |
Says Kabeer, the five passions argue with me, and in these arguments, my life is wasting away.
ਝੂਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੩॥੨੫॥
jhootthee maaeaa sabh jag baadhiaa mai raam ramat sukh paaeaa |3|3|25|
The false Maya has bound the whole world, but I have obtained peace, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||3||3||25||

ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਤੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਤਾਨਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਜਨੇਊ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
ham ghar soot taneh nit taanaa kantth janeaoo tumaare |
In my house, I constantly weave the thread, while you wear the thread around your neck, O Brahmin.
ਤੁਮੑ ਤਉ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹੁ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
tuma tau bed parrahu gaaeitree gobind ridai hamaare |1|
You read the Vedas and sacred hymns, while I have enshrined the Lord of the Universe in my heart. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨੈਨ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਹਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥
meree jihabaa bisan nain naaraaein hiradai baseh gobindaa |
Upon my tongue, within my eyes, and within my heart, abides the Lord, the Lord of the Universe.
ਜਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਜਬ ਪੂਛਸਿ ਬਵਰੇ ਤਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਸਿ ਮੁਕੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jam duaar jab poochhas bavare tab kiaa kehas mukandaa |1| rahaau |
When you are interrogated at Death's door, O mad-man, what will you say then? ||1||Pause||
ਹਮ ਗੋਰੂ ਤੁਮ ਗੁਆਰ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
ham goroo tum guaar gusaaee janam janam rakhavaare |
I am a cow, and You are the herdsman, the Sustainer of the World. You are my Saving Grace, lifetime after lifetime.
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਚਰਾਇਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
kabahoon na paar utaar charaaeihu kaise khasam hamaare |2|
You have never taken me across to graze there - what sort of a herdsman are You? ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਬਾਮੑਨੁ ਮੈ ਕਾਸੀਕ ਜੁਲਹਾ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਮੋਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
toon baaman mai kaaseek julahaa boojhahu mor giaanaa |
You are a Brahmin, and I am a weaver of Benares; can You understand my wisdom?
ਤੁਮੑ ਤਉ ਜਾਚੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਮੋਰ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥੩॥੪॥੨੬॥
tuma tau jaache bhoopat raaje har sau mor dhiaanaa |3|4|26|
You beg from emperors and kings, while I meditate on the Lord. ||3||4||26||

ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੁਪਨ ਸਮਾਨੰ ॥
jag jeevan aisaa supane jaisaa jeevan supan samaanan |
The life of the world is only a dream; life is just a dream.
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਗਾਠਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ॥੧॥
saach kar ham gaatth deenee chhodd param nidhaanan |1|
Believing it to be true, I grasped at it, and abandoned the supreme treasure. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਹਿਤੁ ਕੀਨੑ ॥
baabaa maaeaa moh hit keena |
O Father, I have enshrined love and affection for Maya,
ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੀਨੑ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin giaan ratan hir leena |1| rahaau |
which has taken the jewel of spiritual wisdom away from me. ||1||Pause||
ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਉਰਝੈ ਪਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਗਿ ॥
nain dekh patang urajhai pas na dekhai aag |
The moth sees with its eyes, but it still becomes entangled; the insect does not see the fire.
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਨ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਚੇਤੈ ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਿਨਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੨॥
kaal faas na mugadh chetai kanik kaamin laag |2|
Attached to gold and woman, the fool does not think of the noose of Death. ||2||
ਕਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਸੋਇ ॥
kar bichaar bikaar parahar taran taaran soe |
Reflect upon this, and abandon sin; the Lord is a boat to carry you across.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਦੁਤੀਅ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥੫॥੨੭॥
keh kabeer jagajeevan aisaa duteea naahee koe |3|5|27|
Says Kabeer, such is the Lord, the Life of the World; there is no one equal to Him. ||3||5||27||

ਜਉ ਮੈ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਅਬ ਫੁਨਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
jau mai roop kee bahutere ab fun roop na hoee |
In the past, I have taken many forms, but I shall not take form again.
ਤਾਗਾ ਤੰਤੁ ਸਾਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਥਾਕਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਸਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
taagaa tant saaj sabh thaakaa raam naam bas hoee |1|
The strings and wires of the musical instrument are worn out, and I am in the power of the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਾਚਨੋ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ab mohi naachano na aavai |
Now, I no longer dance to the tune.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਦਰੀਆ ਨ ਬਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
meraa man mandareea na bajaavai |1| rahaau |
My mind no longer beats the drum. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਜਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਫੂਟੀ ॥
kaam krodh maaeaa lai jaaree trisanaa gaagar foottee |
I have burnt away sexual desire, anger and attachment to Maya, and the pitcher of my desires has burst.
ਕਾਮ ਚੋਲਨਾ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ਗਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਛੂਟੀ ॥੨॥
kaam cholanaa bheaa hai puraanaa geaa bharam sabh chhoottee |2|
The gown of sensuous pleasures is worn out, and all my doubts have been dispelled. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਭੂਤ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਚੂਕੇ ਬਾਦ ਬਿਬਾਦਾ ॥
sarab bhoot ekai kar jaaniaa chooke baad bibaadaa |
I look upon all beings alike, and my conflict and strife are ended.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਏ ਰਾਮ ਪਰਸਾਦਾ ॥੩॥੬॥੨੮॥
keh kabeer mai pooraa paaeaa bhe raam parasaadaa |3|6|28|
Says Kabeer, when the Lord showed His Favor, I obtained Him, the Perfect One. ||3||6||28||
