ਬਾਨਨ ਸੰਗ ਜਲਾਧਿਪ ਕੋ ਕਵਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੇ ਤਨ ਤਾੜਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
baanan sang jalaadhip ko kav sayaam bhane tan taarran keeno |
With his lance-like arrows, the king slashed the body of Varuna
ਸਾਤਹੁ ਸਿੰਧਨ ਕੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਰ ਜਾਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਉਰ ਛੇਦ ਕੈ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
saatahu sindhan ko ris kai sar jaalan siau ur chhed kai deeno |
The king, in great fury pierced the heart of the seven oceans
ਘਾਇਲ ਹੈ ਸਰਿਤਾ ਸਗਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਸ੍ਰੋਨਤ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਅੰਗ ਭੀਨੋ ॥
ghaaeil hai saritaa sagaree bahu sronat so tih ko ang bheeno |
Wounding all the streams, he saturated their limbs with blood
ਨੈਕੁ ਨ ਠਾਢੋ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਣ ਮੈ ਜਲ ਰਾਜ ਭਜਿਓ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਮਗੁ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੪੮੪॥
naik na tthaadto rahio ran mai jal raaj bhajio grih ko mag leeno |1484|
The king of water (Varuna) could not stay in the battlefield and ran away towards his hime.1484.

When Varuna went away to his home, the king then discharged his arrows on Krishna
ਤਬ ਜਮ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
tab jam ko har asatr chalaayo |
ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਛ ਜਮ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਰ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੧੪੮੫॥
hai pratachh jam nrip par dhaayo |1485|
At that time, Krishna shot his arm of Yama and thereby Yama manifested himself and fell upon the king.1485.

ਬੀਰ ਬਡੋ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਤ ਦੈਤ ਸੁ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਕੋਪ ਹੁਇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਪੈ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
beer baddo bikrat dait su naameh kop hue sree kharrages pai dhaayo |
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਬਰਛੀ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan gadaa barachhee kar lai at judh machaayo |
The demon named Vikrat, greatly infuriated, fell upon the king Kharag Singh and taking up his bow, arrows, sword, mace, lance etc., he waged a dreadful war
ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਤਬ ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਕਵਿ ਭਾਵ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
teer chalaavat bhayo bahuro tab taa chhab ko kav bhaav sunaayo |
Continuing the discharge of his arrows, he manifested himself in many figures
ਭੂਪ ਕੋ ਬਾਨ ਮਨੋ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਕਟਿਓ ਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਰ ਨਾਗ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੧੪੮੬॥
bhoop ko baan mano khagaraaj kattio ar ko sar naag giraayo |1486|
The poet says that in this war, the arrow of the king was hitting like Garuda and knocking down of the cobra of the arrow of the enemy.1486.
ਬਿਕ੍ਰਤ ਦੈਤ ਕੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮਾਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਜਮੁ ਕੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਉਤਰ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
bikrat dait ko nrip maar layo jam ko ris kai pun utar deeno |
ਕਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੋ ਜੀਅ ਮਾਰੇ ਘਨੇ ਅਰੁ ਦੰਡ ਬਡੋ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
kaa bhayo jo jeea maare ghane ar dandd baddo kar mai tum leeno |
After killing Vikrat, the king said to Yama, “What then, if you have killed many people till now and you are carrying a very large staff in your hand
ਤੋਹਿ ਨ ਜੀਅਤ ਛਾਡਤ ਹੋ ਸੁਨ ਰੇ ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
tohi na jeeat chhaaddat ho sun re ab mohi ihai pran keeno |
“I have taken a vow today that I shall kill you, I am going to kill you
ਮਾਰਤ ਹੋ ਕਰ ਲੈ ਕਰਨੋ ਕਛੁ ਮੋ ਬਲ ਜਾਨਤ ਹੈ ਪੁਰ ਤੀਨੋ ॥੧੪੮੭॥
maarat ho kar lai karano kachh mo bal jaanat hai pur teeno |1487|
You may do whatever you think in your mind, because all the three worlds are aware of my strength.”1487.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਜਮ ਕੋ ਕਵਿ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੀਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
yau keh kai bateeyaa jam ko kav raam kahai pun judh keeyo hai |
After saying these words, according to the poet Ram, the king was engaged in war with Yama
ਭੂਤ ਸ੍ਰਿਗਾਲਨ ਕਾਕਨ ਝਾਕਨਿ ਡਾਕਨਿ ਸ੍ਰੌਨ ਅਘਾਇ ਪੀਓ ਹੈ ॥
bhoot srigaalan kaakan jhaakan ddaakan srauan aghaae peeo hai |
In this war the ghosts, jackals, crows and vampires drank the blood to their heart’s content
ਮਾਰਿਓ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕੀਓ ਹੈ ॥
maario marai na kahoon jam te nrip maanahu amrit paan keeo hai |
The king is not even dying with the blows of Yama, it appears that he has quaffed ambrosia
ਪਾਨਿ ਲੀਓ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਜਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਕ ਅੰਤ ਭਜਾਇ ਦੀਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੪੮੮॥
paan leeo dhan baan jabai tin antak ant bhajaae deeyo hai |1488|
When the king took his bow and arrows in his hands, the Yama had to run away ultimately.1488.

ਜਬ ਜਮ ਦੀਓ ਭਜਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਹੇਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
jab jam deeo bhajaae krisan her nrip yau kahiyo |
With Yama was made to run away, then king, seeing towards Krishna said,
ਲਰਤੇ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਆਇ ਮਹਾਰਥੀ ਰਨ ਧੀਰ ਤੁਮ ॥੧੪੮੯॥
larate kiau nahee aae mahaarathee ran dheer tum |1489|
“O the great warrior of the battlefield! why do you not come to fight with me?” 1489.

SWAYYA
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਅਰਾਧਤ ਹੈ ਤਪ ਸਾਧਤ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨਹੀ ਆਯੋ ॥
jo har mantr araadhat hai tap saadhat hai man mai nahee aayo |
He, who through the repetition of mantras and through the performance of austerities, does not come to abide in the mind
ਜਗ︀ਯ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਦਾਨ ਦੀਏ ਸਬ ਖੋਜਤ ਹੈ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jagay kee bahu daan dee sab khojat hai kinahoon nahee paayo |
Who is not realized through the performance of Yajnas and giving charities
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਚੀਪਤਿ ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਬਿਯਾਸ ਪਰਾਸੁਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਕ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
braham sacheepat naarad saarad biyaas paraasur sree suk gaayo |
Who is eulogised by even Indra, Brahma, Narada, Sharda, Vyas, Prashar and Shukdev
ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਮੈ ਆਜ ਹਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੪੯੦॥
so brijaraaj samaaj mai aaj hakaar kai judh ke kaaj bulaayo |1490|
To that Krishna, the Lord of Braja, today the king Kharag Singh invited him from the whole society for war by challenging him.1490.

ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਜਛ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

ਐਚ ਕਮਾਨ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਰ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
aich kamaan chhaadd sar deeno |
Then Krishna took the Yakshastra (the arm relating to Yakshas) in his hand and pulling his bow discharged it
ਨਲ ਕੂਬਰ ਮਨਗ੍ਰੀਵ ਸੁ ਧਾਏ ॥
nal koobar managreev su dhaae |
ਸੁਤ ਕੁਬੇਰ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਇਹ ਆਏ ॥੧੪੯੧॥
sut kuber ke dvai ih aae |1491|
Now both the sons of Kuber, Nalkoober and Manigreev came in the battlefield.1491.
ਧਨਦ ਜਛ ਕਿੰਨਰ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
dhanad jachh kinar sang leene |
ਏ ਆਏ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
e aae man mai ris keene |
They took many Yakshas, the generous bestowers of wealth, and kinnars alongwith them, who, getting enraged, reached the battlefield
ਸਗਲ ਸੈਨ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ਆਈ ॥
sagal sain tin kai sang aaee |
ਧਾਇ ਭੂਪ ਸੋ ਕਰੀ ਲਰਾਈ ॥੧੪੯੨॥
dhaae bhoop so karee laraaee |1492|
All the army came with them and they waged a terrible war with the king.1492.

ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਸਰੀਰਾ ਪਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਧਰਮੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

In the Golden Age of Sat Yuga, everyone embodied contentment and meditation; religion stood upon four feet.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
man tan har gaaveh param sukh paaveh har hiradai har gun giaan jeeo |
With mind and body, they sang of the Lord, and attained supreme peace. In their hearts was the spiritual wisdom of the Lord's Glorious Virtues.
ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਤਾਰਥੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
gun giaan padaarath har har kirataarath sobhaa guramukh hoee |
Their wealth was the spiritual wisdom of the Lord's Glorious Virtues; the Lord was their success, and to live as Gurmukh was their glory.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
antar baahar har prabh eko doojaa avar na koee |
Inwardly and outwardly, they saw only the One Lord God; for them there was no other second.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har liv laaee har naam sakhaaee har daragah paavai maan jeeo |
They centered their consciousness lovingly on the Lord, Har, Har. The Lord's Name was their companion, and in the Court of the Lord, they obtained honor.

Then came the Silver Age of Trayta Yuga; men's minds were ruled by power, and they practiced celibacy and self-discipline.
ਪਗੁ ਚਉਥਾ ਖਿਸਿਆ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਪਗ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
pag chauthaa khisiaa trai pag ttikiaa man hiradai krodh jalaae jeeo |
The fourth foot of religion dropped off, and three remained. Their hearts and minds were inflamed with anger.
ਮਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਸਲੋਧੁ ਨਿਰਪ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਲੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
man hiradai krodh mahaa bisalodh nirap dhaaveh larr dukh paaeaa |
Their hearts and minds were filled with the horribly poisonous essence of anger. The kings fought their wars and obtained only pain.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਮਤਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
antar mamataa rog lagaanaa haumai ahankaar vadhaaeaa |
Their minds were afflicted with the illness of egotism, and their self-conceit and arrogance increased.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har kripaa dhaaree merai tthaakur bikh guramat har naam leh jaae jeeo |
If my Lord, Har, Har, shows His Mercy, my Lord and Master eradicates the poison by the Guru's Teachings and the Lord's Name.
ਤੇਤਾ ਜੁਗੁ ਆਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਤੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
tetaa jug aaeaa antar jor paaeaa jat sanjam karam kamaae jeeo |2|

ਜੁਗੁ ਦੁਆਪੁਰੁ ਆਇਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਪੀ ਕਾਨੑੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
jug duaapur aaeaa bharam bharamaaeaa har gopee kaanau upaae jeeo |
The Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga came, and people wandered in doubt. The Lord created the Gopis and Krishna.
ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪਨ ਤਾਪਹਿ ਜਗ ਪੁੰਨ ਆਰੰਭਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
tap taapan taapeh jag pun aaranbheh at kiriaa karam kamaae jeeo |
The penitents practiced penance, they offered sacred feasts and charity, and performed many rituals and religious rites.
ਕਿਰਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਪਗ ਦੁਇ ਖਿਸਕਾਇਆ ਦੁਇ ਪਗ ਟਿਕੈ ਟਿਕਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
kiriaa karam kamaaeaa pag due khisakaaeaa due pag ttikai ttikaae jeeo |
They performed many rituals and religious rites; two legs of religion dropped away, and only two legs remained.
ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਜੋਧ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
mahaa judh jodh bahu keenae vich haumai pachai pachaae jeeo |
So many heroes waged great wars; in their egos they were ruined, and they ruined others as well.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਲੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
deen deaal gur saadh milaaeaa mil satigur mal leh jaae jeeo |
The Lord, Compassionate to the poor, led them to meet the Holy Guru. Meeting the True Guru, their filth is washed away.
ਜੁਗੁ ਦੁਆਪੁਰੁ ਆਇਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਪੀ ਕਾਨੑੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
jug duaapur aaeaa bharam bharamaaeaa har gopee kaanau upaae jeeo |3|
The Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga came, and the people wandered in doubt. The Lord created the Gopis and Krishna. ||3||
ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਗ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਖਿਸਕੀਆ ਪਗੁ ਚਉਥਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਟਿਕਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
kalijug har keea pag trai khisakeea pag chauthaa ttikai ttikaae jeeo |
The Lord ushered in the Dark Age, the Iron Age of Kali Yuga; three legs of religion were lost, and only the fourth leg remained intact.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
gurasabad kamaaeaa aaukhadh har paaeaa har keerat har saant paae jeeo |
Acting in accordance with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the medicine of the Lord's Name is obtained. Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, divine peace is obtained.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਰੁਤਿ ਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥
har keerat rut aaee har naam vaddaaee har har naam khet jamaaeaa |
The season of singing the Lord's Praise has arrived; the Lord's Name is glorified, and the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, grows in the field of the body.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
kalijug beej beeje bin naavai sabh laahaa mool gavaaeaa |
In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, if one plants any other seed than the Name, all profit and capital is lost.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਖਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
jan naanak gur pooraa paaeaa man hiradai naam lakhaae jeeo |
Servant Nanak has found the Perfect Guru, who has revealed to him the Naam within his heart and mind.
ਕਲਜੁਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਗ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਖਿਸਕੀਆ ਪਗੁ ਚਉਥਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਟਿਕਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੧॥
