SWAYYA
ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਵਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸੰਗ ਅਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
aayudh lai sab hee aapane jab hee veh bhoopat sang ario hai |
ਜੁਧ ਅਨੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਛਿਤ ਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਨਹਿ ਟਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
judh anek prakaar keeyo ran kee chhit te koaoo neh ttario hai |
When, taking his weapons, he firmly resisted the king, he fought in many ways and no one retraced his steps from the battlefield
ਤੌ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਸਿ ਕੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਕਟਿਓ ਗਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
tau nrip lai kar mai as ko rip moondd kattio gir bhoom pario hai |
The king taking his sword in his hand, killed the enemy and his head fell on the earth
ਦੇਹ ਛੁਟਿਯੋ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਪ ਹਟਿਓ ਨਿਜ ਓਠ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਨ ਸੋ ਪਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੧੪੭੨॥
deh chhuttiyo nahee kop hattio nij otth ke daatan so pakario hai |1472|
Through he had breathed his last, but his anger did not subside even then, he had pressed his lip within his teeth.1472.

asuran kee sainaa hutee daanav nikasio aauar |1473|
When Karurkaram was knocked down in the battlefield by Kharag Singh, then another demon came out of the army of demons.1473.

ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਦੈਤ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਡੋ ਦੈਤ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਅਤਿ ॥

This demon named Karurdaitya was extremely powerful, he had earlier fought in several battles
ਆਗੇ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਲਰਿਓ ਅਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਡਰਿਓ ॥੧੪੭੪॥
aage bahu sangraam lario ario naahin ddario |1474|
He confronted the king with firmness and did not fear even slightly.1474.

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਅਪਨੋ ਖੜਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਓ ॥

When he saw the killing of Karurkaram with his own eyes, he held up his sword
ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਦੈਤ ਰਿਸਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਰ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
kraoor dait ris nrip par dhaayo |
ਮਾਨੋ ਕਾਲ ਮੇਘ ਉਮਡਾਯੋ ॥੧੪੭੫॥
maano kaal megh umaddaayo |1475|
Now Karurdaitya fell upon the king, getting enraged, and it seemed that the death-like cloud had gushed out.1475.
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪ ਪਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
aavat hee tih bhoop pachaario |
ਜਾਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਮੁਝ ਬੰਧੁ ਪਛਾਰਿਓ ॥
jaahu kahaa mujh bandh pachhaario |
On coming, he challenged the king, “Where are you going after killing my brother?
ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਸੋ ਅਬ ਜੁਧ ਮਚੈ ਹੋ ॥
hau tum so ab judh machai ho |
ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਗਯੋ ਜਹਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਪਠੈ ਹੋ ॥੧੪੭੬॥
bhraat gayo jeh tohi patthai ho |1476|
Now I shall fight with you and shall dispatch you there where my brother has gone.”1476.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਤਬ ਖੜਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਓ ॥

ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਬਲ ਕੋਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਓ ॥
at prachandd bal kop prahaario |
Saying this, he held up his sword and getting enraged, he struck a terrible blow
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਲਖਿਓ ਕਾਟਿ ਅਸਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
bhoopat lakhio kaatt as deeno |
ਸੋਊ ਮਾਰਿ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੪੭੭॥

The king saw this and cutting his sword, he knocked him also in the field.1477.

Karurdaitya and Karurkarma both reached the abode of Yama
ਸੈਨਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਘੇਰਿਓ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਿ ॥੧੪੭੮॥

The king taking his weapons, besieged their army in the battlefield.1478.

ਰੋਸ ਕੀਓ ਤਿਨ ਹੂੰ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜੋਉ ਦੈਤ ਬਚੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਊਪਰ ਧਾਏ ॥
ros keeo tin hoon man mai joau dait bache nrip aoopar dhaae |
The demons who had survived, fell upon the king
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਬਰਛੀ ਅਗਨਾਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਏ ॥
baan kamaan gadaa barachhee aganaayudh lai kar kop badtaae |
They had arrows, swords, maces, lances and fire-arms in their hands
ਤੌ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੀਰ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਸਭ ਆਵਤ ਬਾਟ ਮੈ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥
tau nrip teer saraasan lai sabh aavat baatt mai kaatt giraae |
The king, with his bow and arrows, chopped them midway and
ਆਪਨੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਨਿਖੰਗਹੁ ਤੇ ਸਰ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਬੀਚ ਲਗਾਏ ॥੧੪੭੯॥
aapane kaadt nikhangahu te sar satran ke ur beech lagaae |1479|
Taking the arrows out of his quiver, pierced their chests.1479.

Then all the enemies ran away and none of them stayed before him
ਅਧਿਕ ਦੈਤ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
adhik dait jamalok patthaae |
ਜੀਅਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਰਨ ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਏ ॥੧੪੮੦॥
jeeat rahe ran tayaag paraae |1480|
Many demons were killed and those who survived, they ran away the war-arena.1480.

ਭਾਜ ਗਏ ਸਬ ਦੈਤ ਜਬੈ ਤਬ ਭੂਪ ਰਿਸਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
bhaaj ge sab dait jabai tab bhoop risio har ko sar maare |
When all the demons ran away, the king, in great fury,
ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਕਵਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਤਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਚੀਰ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥
laagat hee kav sayaam kahai tan sree jadubeer ko cheer padhaare |
Showered his arrows on Krishna, which pierced his body and came out from the other side,
ਬੇਧਿ ਕੈ ਔਰਨ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਔਰਨ ਜਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਸੁ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
bedh kai aauaran ke tan ko pun aauaran jaae lage su sanghaare |
And then piercing the bodies of other persons, they penetrated into bodies of others
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਪਉਰਖ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਅਬ ਆਪ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੧੪੮੧॥
dekhahu paurakh bhoopat ko ab aap hai ek anek bidaare |1481|
Look at the courage of the king, though he himself is alone, but he is killing many.1481.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਲ ਕੋ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
sree har jal ko asatr chalaayo |
ਸੋ ਛੁਟ ਕੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਊਪਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
so chhutt kai nrip aoopar aayo |
Then Krishna discharged his Varunastra (arm in relation to god Varuna), which hit the king Kharag Singh
ਬਰੁਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਧਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
barun singh moorat dhar aae |
ਸਰਿਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਯਾਏ ॥੧੪੮੨॥
saritan kee sainaa sang liyaae |1482|
Varuna reached there, assuming the form of a lion and brought with him the army of streams.1482.
ਆਵਤ ਸਿੰਘਨ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
aavat singhan sabad sunaayo |
ਬਾਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਅਤਿ ਰਿਸ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
baar raaj at ris kar dhaayo |
On arrival, Varuna blew the horn (roaring like a lion) and in fury fell upon the king
ਸੁਨਤ ਸਬਦ ਕਾਪੇ ਪੁਰ ਤੀਨੋ ॥
sunat sabad kaape pur teeno |
ਇਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੪੮੩॥
ein nrip man mai traas na keeno |1483|
Listening to the dreadful roar, all the three worlds trembled, but the king Kharag Singh did not become fearful.1483.

har har karataa dookh binaasan patit paavan har naam jeeo |
The Creator Lord, Har, Har, is the Destroyer of distress; the Name of the Lord is the Purifier of sinners.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਾਈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
har sevaa bhaaee param gat paaee har aootam har har kaam jeeo |
One who lovingly serves the Lord, obtains the supreme status. Service to the Lord, Har, Har, is more exalted than anything.
ਹਰਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
har aootam kaam japeeai har naam har japeeai asathir hovai |
Chanting the Name of the Lord is the most exalted occupation; chanting the Name of the Lord, one becomes immortal.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੋਵੈ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
janam maran dovai dukh mette sahaje hee sukh sovai |
The pains of both birth and death are eradicated, and one comes to sleep in peaceful ease.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har kirapaa dhaarahu tthaakur har japeeai aatam raam jeeo |
O Lord, O Lord and Master, shower Your Mercy upon me; within my mind, I chant the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਣਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
guramukh har parreeai guramukh har suneeai har japat sunat dukh jaae jeeo |
As Gurmukh, read of the Lord; as Gurmukh, hear of the Lord. Chanting and listening to the Lord's Name, pain departs.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
har har naam japiaa dukh binasiaa har naam param sukh paaeaa |
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, pains are removed. Through the Name of the Lord, supreme peace is obtained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਲਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
satigur giaan baliaa ghatt chaanan agiaan andher gavaaeaa |
The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru illumines the heart; this Light dispels the darkness of spiritual ignorance.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har naam tinee aaraadhiaa jin masatak dhur likh paae jeeo |
They alone meditate on the Lord's Name, Har, Har, upon whose foreheads such destiny is written.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
har naam padaarath kalijug aootam har japeeai satigur bhaae jeeo |2|

har har man bhaaeaa param sukh paaeaa har laahaa pad nirabaan jeeo |
One whose mind loves the Lord, Har, Har, obtains supreme peace. He reaps the profit of the Lord's Name, the state of Nirvaanaa.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਚੂਕਾ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
har preet lagaaee har naam sakhaaee bhram chookaa aavan jaan jeeo |
He embraces love for the Lord, and the Lord's Name becomes his companion. His doubts, and his comings and goings are ended.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
aavan jaanaa bhram bhau bhaagaa har har har gun gaaeaa |
His comings and goings, doubts and fears come to an end, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
janam janam ke kilavikh dukh utare har har naam samaaeaa |
The sins and pains of countless incarnations are washed away, and he merges into the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
jin har dhiaaeaa dhur bhaag likh paaeaa tin safal janam paravaan jeeo |
Those who are blessed by such pre-ordained destiny, meditate on the Lord, and their lives become fruitful and approved.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
har har man bhaaeaa param sukh paaeaa har laahaa pad nirabaan jeeo |3|
One whose mind loves the Lord, Har, Har, obtains supreme peace. He reaps the profit of the Lord's Name, the state of Nirvaanaa. ||3||
ਜਿਨੑ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਊਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ਜੀਉ ॥
jina har meetth lagaanaa te jan paradhaanaa te aootam har har log jeeo |
Celebrated are those people, unto whom the Lord seems sweet; how exalted are those people of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਜੀਉ ॥
har naam vaddaaee har naam sakhaaee gurasabadee har ras bhog jeeo |
The Lord's Name is their glorious greatness; the Lord's Name is their companion and helper. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਮਹਾ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
har ras bhog mahaa nirajog vaddabhaagee har ras paaeaa |
They enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord, and remain totally detached. By great good fortune, they obtain the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਵਡੇ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
se dhan vadde sat purakhaa poore jin guramat naam dhiaaeaa |
So very blessed and truly perfect are those, who through Guru's Instruction meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰੇਣੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਪਗ ਸਾਧੂ ਮਨਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
jan naanak ren mangai pag saadhoo man chookaa sog vijog jeeo |
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of the Holy; his mind is rid of sorrow and separation.
ਜਿਨੑ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਊਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੦॥
jina har meetth lagaanaa te jan paradhaanaa te aootam har har log jeeo |4|3|10|
Celebrated are those people, unto whom the Lord seems sweet; how exalted are those people of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||10||
