ਕਾਕਧੁਜਾ ਨਿਜ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਵਹੁ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
kaakadhujaa nij bhraat nihaar hanayo tab hee ris kai vahu dhaayo |
Seeing his brother dead, Kakdhvaja in great rage came forward
ਦਾਤ ਕੀਏ ਕਈ ਜੋਜਨ ਲਉ ਗਿਰਿ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਆਪਨੋ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
daat kee kee jojan lau gir so tih aapano roop banaayo |
He lengthened his teeth for several yojanas (a measure of distance) and magnified his body to the size of a mountain
ਰੋਮ ਕੀਏ ਤਰੁ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਰਨਿ ਭੂਮਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
rom kee tar se tan mai kar aayudh lai ran bhoomeh aayo |
He grew his hair like the trees and taking his weapons in his hand, he came in the battlefield
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਕਤੇਸ ਤਨ੍ਰਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਪ ਸੁ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਬਾਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੧੩੦੮॥
sree sakates tanrayo kar chaap su ek hee baan siau maar giraayo |1308|
Shakti Singh by pulling his bow, knocked him down with a single arrow only.1308.
ਦੈਤ ਚਮੂੰ ਪਤਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਊਪਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
dait chamoon pat tthaadto huto tih ko bar kai nrip aoopar dhaayo |
The lord of the army of demons was standing there, he fell upon Shakti Singh in great rage
ਰਾਛਸ ਸੈਨ ਅਛੂਹਨਿ ਲੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
raachhas sain achhoohan lai apane man mai at kop badtaayo |
He took the supreme division of his army alongwith him and marched forward in great ire
ਬਾਨ ਬਨਾਇ ਚਢਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥
baan banaae chadtiyo ran ko tih aapan naam kuroop kahaayo |
The name of this incoming demon in the battlefield was Kurup
ਐਸੇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਸਾਵਨ ਕੋ ਉਨਏ ਘਨੁ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੩੦੯॥
aise chaliyo ar ke badh ko mano saavan ko une ghan aayo |1309|
He moved forward to destroy the enemy like the clouds of Sawan.1309.
ਹੇਰਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਬਹੁ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੀ ਸਕਤੇਸ ਬਲੀ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥

ਧੀਰਜ ਬਾਧਿ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮਾਝਿ ਸਰਾਸਨਿ ਬਾਨ ਸੁ ਪਾਨਿ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
dheeraj baadh ayodhan maajh saraasan baan su paan layo hai |
Seeing the four divisions of the army of his enemies, Shakti Singh was filled with ire, but with endurance in the battlefield, he took the bow and arrows in his hand
ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਸਬੈ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਲਜਿ ਕੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਲ ਕੇ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਸੁ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
traas sabai taj kai laj kai ar ke dal ke samuhe su gayo hai |
He went in front of the army of the enemy and seeing him, all began to run away
ਦਾਨਵ ਮੇਘ ਬਿਡਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਮਨੋ ਬੀਰ ਸਮੀਰ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੩੧੦॥
daanav megh biddaaran ko ran mai mano beer sameer bhayo hai |1310|
In order to destroy the clouds of demons, that warriors was looking like wind.1310.
ਅੰਤ੍ਰ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਨਭ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਬੈਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
antr dhayaan kuroop bhayo nabh mai tih jaae kai bain uchaare |
ਜੈਹੋ ਕਹਾ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਭਜਿ ਕੈ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਕਾਸ ਤੇ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
jaiho kahaa ham te bhaj kai gaj baaj anek akaas te ddaare |
Kurup disappeared and manifesting himself in the sky, he said, “O Shakti Singh! where will you go to save yourself?” Saying this he showered elephants, horses, trees,
ਰੂਖ ਪਖਾਨ ਸਿਲਾ ਰਥ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਰਾਧਰ ਰੀਛ ਮਹਾ ਅਹਿ ਕਾਰੇ ॥
rookh pakhaan silaa rath singh dharaadhar reechh mahaa eh kaare |
Stones, rocks, chariots, lions, mountains, bears and black cobras
ਆਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਰਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੈ ਜੋਰ ਸੋ ਭੂਪ ਬਚਿਓ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਦਬਿ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੧੩੧੧॥
aan pare ran bhoom mai jor so bhoop bachio sigare dab maare |1311|
All of them fell on the earth under whom all except Shakti Singh were crushed and killed.1311.
ਜੇਤਕ ਡਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪੈ ਗਿਰਿ ਤੇਤਕ ਬਾਨਨ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
jetak ddaar de nrip pai gir tetak baanan saath nivaare |
ਜੇ ਰਜਨੀਚਰ ਠਾਢੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਸਕਤੇਸ ਬਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਓਰਿ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥
je rajaneechar tthaadte hute sakates balee tih or padhaare |
The king (Shakti Singh) intercepted with his arrows all the things thrown upon him and that mighty warrior with his strength reached there, where the demons were standing
ਪਾਨਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਲਏ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਸੁ ਘਾਇਲ ਏਕ ਕਰੇ ਇਕ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
paan kripaan le balavaan su ghaaeil ek kare ik maare |
This mighty warrior, taking his sword in his hand, wounded some of them and killed many of them
ਦੈਤ ਚਮੂੰ ਨ ਬਸਾਤ ਕਛੂ ਅਪਨੇ ਛਲ ਛਿਦ੍ਰਨਿ ਕੈ ਸਬ ਹਾਰੇ ॥੧੩੧੨॥
dait chamoon na basaat kachhoo apane chhal chhidran kai sab haare |1312|
The army of demons could not do anything worthwhile an dit was being defeated on account of its deceptive methods/1312.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਲਯੋ ਰਿਸ ਸਾਥ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਕੇ ਬੀਰ ਹਨੇ ॥
nrip ne bahuro dhan baan layo ris saath kuroop ke beer hane |
The king, taking his bow and arrows in his hands, made Kurup as his target,
ਜੇਊ ਜੀਵਤ ਥੇ ਕਰਿ ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਅਰਰਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਬਰਬੀਰ ਘਨੇ ॥
jeaoo jeevat the kar aayudh lai araraae pare barabeer ghane |
Who was alive and carrying weapons in his hands ,many warriors writhed
ਜੇਊ ਆਨਿ ਲਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਰੇ ਰੁਪਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਲਰੇ ਕੋਊ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਸਨੇ ॥
jeaoo aan lare bin praan kare rup tthaadte lare koaoo sraun sane |
Whosoever come forward to fight, became lifeless and many were seen standing and saturated with blood
ਮਨਿ ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਰਿਤੁਰਾਜ ਸਮੈ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਕਿੰਸਕ ਲਾਲ ਬਨੇ ॥੧੩੧੩॥
man yau upamaa upajee rituraaj samai drum kinsak laal bane |1313|
They appeared moving like the red Kesu flowers in spring season.1313.

ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਿਹ ਸਮਰ ਮੈ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ॥

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੈਨ ਮੈ ਭਟ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦਏ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥੧੩੧੪॥
asur sain mai bhatt prabal te bahu de sanghaar |1314|
In that war, holding his weapons, Shakti Singh killed many of the warriors of the army of demons.1314.

ਬਿਕ੍ਰਤਾਨਨ ਨਾਮ ਕਰੂਪ ਕੋ ਬਾਧਵ ਕੋਪ ਭਯੋ ਅਸਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਗਹਿਓ ॥
bikrataanan naam karoop ko baadhav kop bhayo as paan gahio |
ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਧਬੇ ਕੋ ਚਹਿਓ ॥
kab sayaam kahai ran mai tih ko man mai ar ke badhabe ko chahio |
Vikartanan, the brother of Kurup caught hold of his sword in his hand in great rage, and he made an effort to kill the enemy
ਸੁ ਧਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਆਯੋ ਤਹਾ ਨ ਟਰਿਓ ਵਹ ਜੁਧ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਉਮਹਿਓ ॥
su dhavaae kai sayandan aayo tahaa na ttario veh judh hee ko umahio |
ਸੁਨਿ ਰੇ ਸਕਤੇਸ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਤ ਹੋ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਓ ॥੧੩੧੫॥
sun re sakates sanbhaar sanghaarat ho tum ko ih bhaat kahio |1315|
Getting his chariot driven, with zeal for war in his mind, he reached there and said, “O king! hold up your sword, I am going to kill you.”1315.

ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਯਹਿ ਬਚਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਨੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਉਠਾਇ ॥

ਚਪਲਾ ਸੀ ਰਵਿ ਕਿਰਨ ਸੀ ਅਰਿ ਤਕਿ ਦਈ ਚਲਾਇ ॥੧੩੧੬॥
chapalaa see rav kiran see ar tak dee chalaae |1316|
Hearing these words Shakti Singh took his Shakti (the powerful weapon) in his hand and looking at the enemy, he discharged that Shakti, swift like the sunrays.1316.

The Shakti piercing the heart of Vikartanan, peretrated to the other side of the body
ਜਿਹ ਊਪਰਿ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੀ ਸਬ ਆਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਸੋਊ ਲੋਹ ਮਈ ॥
jih aoopar kanchan kee sab aakrit hai sab hee soaoo loh mee |
The body on which there were golden figures,
ਲਸਕੈ ਉਰਿ ਰਾਕਸ ਕੇ ਮਧ ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਕਬਿ ਭਾਖ ਦਈ ॥
lasakai ur raakas ke madh yau upamaa tih kee kab bhaakh dee |
It was all dyed with blood
ਮਨੋ ਰਾਹੁ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਬ ਬੈਰ ਕੋ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਲ ਲਈ ॥੧੩੧੭॥
mano raahu bichaar kai poorab bair ko sooraj kee kar leel lee |1317|
That Shakti driven in the body looked like the sun swallowed by Rahu on remembering its enmity.1317.

ਉਤ ਬਰਛੀ ਕੇ ਲਗਤ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ॥
aut barachhee ke lagat hee praan taje balavaan |
ਸਬ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਡਰਿਓ ਹਾ ਹਾ ਕੀਓ ਬਖਾਨ ॥੧੩੧੮॥
sab daitan ko man ddario haa haa keeo bakhaan |1318|
With the infliction of the dagger, that mighty warrior breathed his last and all the mighty warriors, having fears in their minds, lamented.1318.
ਬਿਕ੍ਰਤਾਨਨ ਜਬ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਨਧੀਰਿ ॥
bikrataanan jab maario sakat singh ranadheer |
ਸੋ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਕੈ ਸਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਓ ਦੁਖੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੧੩੧੯॥
so kuroop avilok kai seh na sakio dukh beer |1319|
When the heroic Shakti Singh killed Vikartanan, Kurup could not endure the sorrow of the death of his brother.1319.

ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan gadaa geh lai kar mai at judh machaayo |
Seeing the killing of Vikartanan and inspired by death, Kurup went to the sky and taking the bow, sword, mace etc. in his hand he waged a dreadful war
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਕਤੇਸ ਬਡੁ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਨ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਮਹਾ ਅਰਿ ਗ੍ਰੀਵ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
sree sakates badd dhan taan kai baan mahaa ar greev lagaayo |
Shakti Singh also pulled his very large bow, made the throat of his enemy as his target
ਸੀਸ ਪਰਿਓ ਕਟਿ ਕੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਸੁ ਕਬੰਧ ਲਏ ਅਸਿ ਕੋ ਰਨਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੧੩੨੦॥
sees pario katt kai dharanee su kabandh le as ko ran dhaayo |1320|
The head of the enemy was chopped and fell down on the earth and the headless trunk of the enemy, catching hold of his sword in his hand, began to run in the battlefield.1320.

Aasaa, Third Mehl:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਚਖਾਇਓਨੁ ਰਸੁ ਆਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
amrit jinaa chakhaaeon ras aaeaa sehaj subhaae |
Those whom the Lord has caused to drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, naturally, intuitively, enjoy the sublime essence.
ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
sachaa veparavaahu hai tis no til na tamaae |1|
The True Lord is care-free; he does not have even an iota of greed. ||1||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
amrit sachaa varasadaa guramukhaa mukh paae |
The True Ambrosial Nectar rains down, and trickles into the mouths of the Gurmukhs.
ਮਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man sadaa hareeaavalaa sahaje har gun gaae |1| rahaau |
Their minds are forever rejuvenated, and they naturally, intuitively, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਦਰਿ ਖੜੀਆ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥
manamukh sadaa dohaaganee dar kharreea bilalaeh |
The self-willed manmukhs are forever forsaken brides; they cry out and bewail at the Lord's Gate.
ਜਿਨੑਾ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
jinaa pir kaa suaad na aaeo jo dhur likhiaa so kamaeh |2|
Those who do not enjoy the sublime taste of their Husband Lord, act according to their pre-ordained destiny. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੀਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਜਮੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh beeje sach jamai sach naam vaapaar |
The Gurmukh plants the seed of the True Name, and it sprouts. He deals in the True Name alone.
ਜੋ ਇਤੁ ਲਾਹੈ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇਇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੩॥
jo it laahai laaeian bhagatee dee bhanddaar |3|
Those whom the Lord has attached to this profitable venture, are granted the treasure of devotional worship. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਭੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ॥
guramukh sadaa sohaaganee bhai bhagat seegaar |
The Gurmukh is forever the true, happy soul-bride; she adorns herself with the fear of God and devotion to Him.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
anadin raaveh pir aapanaa sach rakheh ur dhaar |4|
Night and day, she enjoys her Husband Lord; she keeps Truth enshrined within her heart. ||4||
ਜਿਨੑਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinaa pir raaviaa aapanaa tinaa vittahu bal jaau |
I am a sacrifice to those who have enjoyed their Husband Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੫॥
sadaa pir kai sang raheh vichahu aap gavaae |5|
They dwell forever with their Husband Lord; they eradicate self-conceit from within. ||5||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
tan man seetal mukh ujale pir kai bhaae piaar |
Their bodies and minds are cooled and soothed, and their faces are radiant, from the love and affection of their Husband Lord.
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
sej sukhaalee pir ravai haumai trisanaa maar |6|
They enjoy their Husband Lord upon His cozy bed, having conquered their ego and desire. ||6||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
kar kirapaa ghar aaeaa gur kai het apaar |
Granting His Grace, He comes into our homes, through our infinite Love for the Guru.
ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
var paaeaa sohaaganee keval ek muraar |7|
The happy soul-bride obtains the One Lord as her Husband. ||7||
ਸਭੇ ਗੁਨਹ ਬਖਸਾਇ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰਿ ॥
sabhe gunah bakhasaae leon mele melanahaar |
All of her sins are forgiven; the Uniter unites her with Himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਣੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੮॥੧੨॥੩੪॥
naanak aakhan aakheeai je sun dhare piaar |8|12|34|
O Nanak, chant such chants, that hearing them, He may enshrine love for you. ||8||12||34||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
satigur te gun aoopajai jaa prabh melai soe |
Merit is obtained from the True Guru, when God causes us to meet Him.
ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with intuitive ease and poise, spiritual wisdom is revealed. ||1||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮਤ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਖੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
e man mat jaaneh har door hai sadaa vekh hadoor |
O my mind, do not think of the Lord as being far away; behold Him ever close at hand.
ਸਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਸਦ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sad sunadaa sad vekhadaa sabad rahiaa bharapoor |1| rahaau |
He is always listening, and always watching over us; the Word of His Shabad is all-pervading everywhere. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
guramukh aap pachhaaniaa tinaee ik man dhiaaeaa |
The Gurmukhs understand their own selves; they meditate single-mindedly on the Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਰਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sadaa raveh pir aapanaa sachai naam sukh paaeaa |2|
They enjoy their Husband Lord continually; through the True Name, they find peace. ||2||
ਏ ਮਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
e man teraa ko nahee kar vekh sabad veechaar |
O my mind, no one belongs to you; contemplate the Shabad, and see this.
ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
har saranaaee bhaj pau paaeihi mokh duaar |3|
So run to the Lord's Sanctuary, and find the gate of salvation. ||3||
ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
sabad suneeai sabad bujheeai sach rahai liv laae |
Listen to the Shabad, and understand the Shabad, and lovingly focus your consciousness on the True One.
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥
sabade haumai maareeai sachai mehal sukh paae |4|
Through the Shabad, conquer your ego, and in the True Mansion of the Lord's Presence, you shall find peace. ||4||
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੋਭ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
eis jug meh sobhaa naam kee bin naavai sobh na hoe |
In this age, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory; without the Name, there is no glory.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਜਾਦੀ ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
eih maaeaa kee sobhaa chaar dihaarre jaadee bilam na hoe |5|
The glory of this Maya lasts for only a few days; it disappears in an instant. ||5||
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jinee naam visaariaa se mue mar jaeh |
Those who forget the Naam are already dead, and they continue dying.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
har ras saad na aaeo bisattaa maeh samaeh |6|
They do not enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord's taste; they sink into the manure. ||6||
ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ॥
eik aape bakhas milaaeian anadin naame laae |
Some are forgiven by the Lord; He unites them with Himself, and keeps them attached to the Naam, night and day.
ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
sach kamaaveh sach raheh sache sach samaeh |7|
They practice Truth, and abide in Truth; being truthful, they merge into Truth. ||7||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਜਗੁ ਬੋਲਾ ਅੰਨੑਾ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥
bin sabadai suneeai na dekheeai jag bolaa anaa bharamaae |
Without the Shabad, the world does not hear, and does not see; deaf and blind, it wanders around.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੮॥
bin naavai dukh paaeisee naam milai tisai rajaae |8|
Without the Naam, it obtains only misery; the Naam is received only by His Will. ||8||
ਜਿਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jin baanee siau chit laaeaa se jan niramal paravaan |
Those persons who link their consciousness with the Word of His Bani, are immaculately pure, and approved by the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੯॥੧੩॥੩੫॥
naanak naam tinaa kade na veesarai se dar sache jaan |9|13|35|
O Nanak, they never forget the Naam, and in the Court of the Lord, they are known as true. ||9||13||35||
