ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਕਾਲ ਭਯੋ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਯੋ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸੂਰਨ ਕੋ ਭਯੋ ਰਥ ਸਾਜ ਕੈ ਸਬੈ ਚਲੇ ॥
praat kaal bhayo andhakaar mitt gayo krodh sooran ko bhayo rath saaj kai sabai chale |
The darkness (of night) ended with day-dawned, the warriors, in anger, and bedecking their chariots, started (for war)
ਇਤੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਇ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਜੂ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੈ ਭਲੇ ॥
eitai brijaraae balidev joo bulaae man mahaa sukh paae jadubeer sang lai bhale |
On this side, the Lord of Braja, in a state of supreme bliss in his mind, and calling Balram went (for war)
ਉਤੈ ਡਰੁ ਡਾਰ ਕੈ ਹਥਿਆਰਨ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਆਏ ਹੈ ਹਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਅਟਲ ਭਟ ਨ ਟਲੇ ॥
autai ddar ddaar kai hathiaaran sanbhaar kai su aae hai hakaar kai attal bhatt na ttale |
On that side also, forsaking fear and holding their weapons, the warriors moved forward shouting loudly
ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਧਵਾਇ ਸੰਖ ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਬਜਾਇ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਤਰੰਗਨੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਇ ਦਲ ਆਪਸ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਲੇ ॥੧੨੬੭॥
sayandan dhavaae sankh dundabh bajaae dvai taranganee ke bhaae dal aapas bikhai rale |1267|
Driving their chariots, blowing their conches and beating small drums and riding int heir horses, both the armies fell upon each other.1267.

ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਿਯੈ ਅਮਿਤ ਤੇਜ ਕੀ ਖਾਨ ॥

Krishna, sitting in his chariots looked splendid like the mine of unlimited light
ਕੁਮਦਿਨ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਕੰਜਨ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਭਾਨ ॥੧੨੬੮॥
kumadin jaanio chandramaa kanjan maanio bhaan |1268|
The the asphodels considered him as moon and the lotus flowers considered him as sun.1268.

ਘਨ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਮੋਰ ਨਚਿਓ ਬਨ ਮਾਝ ਚਕੋਰ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਸਸਿ ਕੇ ਸਮ ਹੈ ॥
ghan jaan kai mor nachio ban maajh chakor lakhiyo sas ke sam hai |
The peacocks, considering him as cloud, began to dance, partridges considered him as moon and danced in the forest
ਮਨਿ ਕਾਮਿਨ ਕਾਮ ਸਰੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਸਨ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ਨਰੋਤਮ ਹੈ ॥
man kaamin kaam saroop bhayo prabh daasan jaaniyo narotam hai |
The women thought that he was the god of love and the servant-maids considered him as a superb human
ਬਰ ਜੋਗਨ ਜਾਨਿ ਜੁਗੀਸੁਰ ਈਸੁਰ ਰੋਗਨ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ਸਦਾ ਛਮ ਹੈ ॥
bar jogan jaan jugeesur eesur rogan maaniyo sadaa chham hai |
The Yogis thought that he was a Supreme Yogi and the ailments thought that he was the remedy
ਹਰਿ ਬਾਲਨ ਬਾਲਕ ਰੂਪ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਜੀਯ ਦੁਜਨ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ਮਹਾ ਜਮ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੬੯॥
har baalan baalak roop lakhiyo jeey dujan jaaniyo mahaa jam hai |1269|
The children considered him as child and the wicked people saw him as death.1269.
ਚਕਵਾਨ ਦਿਨੇਸ ਗਜਾਨ ਗਨੇਸ ਗਨਾਨ ਮਹੇਸ ਮਹਾਤਮ ਹੈ ॥
chakavaan dines gajaan ganes ganaan mahes mahaatam hai |
The ducks considered him as the sun, the elephants as Ganesh and the Ganas as Shiva
ਮਘਵਾ ਧਰਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿਨੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਬਰਨੀ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਹੈ ॥
maghavaa dharanee har jiau harinee upamaa baranee na kachhoo sram hai |
He seemed to be like Indra, earth and Vishnu, but he also looked like an innocent doe
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਜੂਥਨ ਨਾਦ ਸਰੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਨ ਬਿਬਾਦ ਤਿਨੈ ਦਮ ਹੈ ॥
mrig joothan naad saroop bhayo jin ke na bibaad tinai dam hai |
For the deer, he was like the horn and for the men sans strifes, he was like life-breath
ਨਿਜ ਮੀਤਨ ਮੀਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਚੀਤਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਸਤ੍ਰਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ਮਹਾ ਜਮ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੭੦॥
nij meetan meet hvai cheet basio har satran jaaniyo mahaa jam hai |1270|
For the friends, he was like a friend abiding in mind and for the enemies, he looked like Yama.1270.

ਦ੍ਵੈ ਸੈਨਾ ਇਕਠੀ ਭਈ ਅਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
dvai sainaa ikatthee bhee at man kop badtaae |
ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਬੀਰ ਬਰ ਰਨ ਦੁੰਦਭੀ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੧੨੭੧॥
judh karat hai beer bar ran dundabhee bajaae |1271|
The armies of both the sides, in great anger, gathered together and the warriors playing upon their trumpets etc. began to wage war.1271.

ਧੂਮ ਧੁਜ ਮਨ ਧਉਰ ਧਰਾ ਧਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਬੈ ਰਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਆਏ ॥
dhoom dhuj man dhaur dharaa dhar singh sabai ran kop kai aae |
The kings namely Dhum, Dhvaja, Man, Dhaval And Dharadhar Singh, in great fury, reached the battlefield
ਲੈ ਕਰਵਾਰਨ ਢਾਲ ਕਰਾਲ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਸੰਕ ਤਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਧਾਏ ॥
lai karavaaran dtaal karaal hvai sank tajee har saamuhe dhaae |
They ran before Krishna, forsaking all their illusions, taking their shields and swords in their hands
ਦੇਖਿ ਤਿਨੈ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਰਾਜ ਹਲੀ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਕਰੋ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
dekh tinai tab hee brij raaj halee so kahiyo su karo man bhaae |
Seeing them, Krishna said to Balram, “Now do, whatever you wish
ਧਾਇ ਬਲੀ ਬਲਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਹਲਿ ਪਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥੧੨੭੨॥
dhaae balee bal lai kar mai hal paachan ke sir kaatt giraae |1272|
The mighty Balram, taking his plough in his hand, chopped the heads of all the five and threw them on the ground.1272.

ਦ੍ਵੈ ਅਛੂਹਨੀ ਦਲ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਪਾਚੋ ਹਨੇ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥
dvai achhoohanee dal nripat paacho hane risaae |
ਏਕ ਦੋਇ ਜੀਵਤ ਬਚੇ ਰਨ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਇ ॥੧੨੭੩॥
ek doe jeevat bache ran taj ge paraae |1273|
Two supreme divisions of army and all the five kings were killed and those one or two who survived, left the war-arena and ran away.1273.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਜੁਧ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧੇ ਪਾਚ ਭੂਪ ਦੋ ਅਛੂਹਨੀ ਦਲ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਧਹ ਧਯਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥

End of the chapter entitled “Killing of Five Kings alongwith Five Supreme Divisions of the Army” in Krishnavatara in Bachittar Natak.

Now begins the description about the war with twelve kings

ਦ੍ਵਾਦਸ ਭੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਦਸਾ ਤਿਹ ਦਾਤਨ ਪੀਸ ਕੈ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
dvaadas bhoop nihaar dasaa tih daatan pees kai kop keeyo |
When the twelve kings saw this situation, they began to grind their teeth in great anger
ਧਰੀਆ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਬਰ ਅਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੈ ਦਲ ਬਾਟਿ ਦੀਯੋ ॥
dhareea sab hee bar atran ke bahu sasatran kai dal baatt deeyo |
They trusted their arms and weapons and distributed them amongst their forces
ਮਿਲਿ ਆਪ ਬਿਖੈ ਤਿਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਛੋਭ ਸੋ ਤਾਤੋ ਹੀਯੋ ॥
mil aap bikhai tin mantr keeyo kar kai at chhobh so taato heeyo |
Then all of them held consultations
ਲਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਰਿ ਹੈ ਭਵ ਕੋ ਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਜਸ ਸਾਥ ਭਲੋ ਪਲ ਏਕ ਜੀਯੋ ॥੧੨੭੪॥
lar hai mar hai bhav ko tar hai jas saath bhalo pal ek jeeyo |1274|
Their hearts were in great anguish, they said, “We shall fight, die and ferry across the ocean of samsara, because even one praiseworthy instant of our life is superb.1274.
ਯੌ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਧਰਿ ਆਇ ਅਰੇ ਸੁ ਘਨੋ ਦਲੁ ਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਕਾਰੋ ॥
yau man mai dhar aae are su ghano dal lai har pekh hakaaro |
ਯਾਹੀ ਹਨੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਾਚ ਅਬੈ ਹਮ ਸੰਗ ਲਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੋ ॥
yaahee hane nrip paach abai ham sang laro har bhraat tumaaro |
Thinking this in their mind and bringing sufficient army, they came and began to challenge Krishna, “This Balram has already killed the five kings and now O Krishna! tell your brother to fight with us,
ਨਾਤਰ ਆਇ ਭਿਰੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਆਯੁਧ ਛਾਡ ਕੈ ਧਾਮਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੋ ॥
naatar aae bhiro tum hoon neh aayudh chhaadd kai dhaam sidhaaro |
“Otherwise you come to fight with us or leave the war-arena and go home
ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਮੈ ਬਲੁ ਹੈ ਘਟਿਕਾ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਲਖਿ ਲੈ ਪੁਰਖਤ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੨੭੫॥
jo tum mai bal hai ghattikaa lar kai lakh lai purakhat hamaaro |1275|
If your people are weak, then what vitality of ours you will be able to see?”1275.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਬ ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਯੋ ॥
yau sun kai bateeyaa tin kee sab aayudh lai har saamuhe aayo |
Hearing this talk, all of them, taking up their weapons, came in front of Krishna
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋ ਸੀਸ ਕਟਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
saahib singh ko sees kattiyo su sadaa singh maar kai bhoom giraayo |
On their arrival, the head of Sahib Singh was cut and Sada Singh was knocked down after killing him
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਧੰਧਰ ਕੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਰਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sundar singh adhandhar kai pun saajan singh hanayo ran paayo |
Sunder Singh was cut into two halves and then destroyed Sajan Singh
ਕੇਸਨ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਸਬਲੇਸ ਧਰਾ ਪਟਕਿਯੋ ਇਮ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥੧੨੭੬॥
kesan te geh kai sabales dharaa pattakiyo im judh machaayo |1276|
Samlesh Singh was knocked down by catching him from his hair and in this way, a dreadful war was excited.1276.

ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੁਨਿ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਰਨਿ ਸੈਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਤਿ ਦੀਨ ॥

Then Shakti Singh and Sain Singh were killed
ਸਫਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਨਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਦ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਨ ॥੧੨੭੭॥
safal singh ar singh han singh naad har keen |1277|
Then kin killing Saphal Singh and Ark Singh, Krishna roared llike a lion.1277.
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Mehl, Ashtpadheeyaa, Eighth House, Kaafee:
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
gur te saant aoopajai jin trisanaa agan bujhaaee |
Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
gur te naam paaeeai vaddee vaddiaaee |1|
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1||
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
eko naam chet mere bhaaee |
Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jagat jalandaa dekh kai bhaj pe saranaaee |1| rahaau |
Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gur te giaan aoopajai mahaa tat beechaaraa |
Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru; reflect upon the supreme essence of reality.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
gur te ghar dar paaeaa bhagatee bhare bhanddaaraa |2|
Through the Guru, the Lord's Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramukh naam dhiaaeeai boojhai veechaaraa |
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
guramukh bhagat salaah hai antar sabad apaaraa |3|
The Gurmukh is the Lord's devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
guramukh sookh aoopajai dukh kade na hoee |
Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
guramukh haumai maareeai man niramal hoee |4|
The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
satigur miliai aap geaa tribhavan sojhee paaee |
Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
niramal jot pasar rahee jotee jot milaaee |5|
The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one's light merges into the Light. ||5||
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥
poorai gur samajhaaeaa mat aootam hoee |
The Perfect Guru instructs, and one's intellect becomes sublime.
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
antar seetal saant hoe naame sukh hoee |6|
A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6||
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
pooraa satigur taan milai jaan nadar kareee |
One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
kilavikh paap sabh katteeeh fir dukh bighan na hoee |7|
All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7||
ਆਪਣੈ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapanai hath vaddiaaeea de naame laae |
Glory is in His Hands; He bestows His Name, and attaches us to it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੬॥
naanak naam nidhaan man vasiaa vaddiaaee paae |8|4|26|
O Nanak, the treasure of the Naam abides within the mind, and glory is obtained. ||8||4||26||
