ਭੂਪਨ ਕੀ ਭਾਜੀ ਚਮੂ ਖਾਇ ਘਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥

bhoopan kee bhaajee chamoo khaae ghanee har maar |

After a good thrashing by Krishna, all the remaining army of the kings ran away

ਤਬਹਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਆਯੁਧ ਸਕਲ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ॥੧੧੯੯॥

tabeh fire nrip judh ke aayudh sakal sanbhaar |1199|

Then holding their weapons the kings collectively marched forward for war.1199.

ਕੋਪ ਅਯੋਧਨੁ ਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਸਬ ਭੂਪਨ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥

kop ayodhan mai kar kai kar mai sab bhoopan sasatr sanbhaare |

ਆਇ ਕੈ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਬਲ ਕੈ ਨਿਜੁ ਆਯੁਧ ਰੋਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥

aae kai saamuhe sayaam hee ke bal kai nij aayudh ros prahaare |

The kings with great anger held their weapon in their hands in the battlefield and struck their blows furiously, coming in front of Krishna

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਰਾਸਨਿ ਲੈ ਸਰ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਭੂ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥

kaanrah sanbhaar saraasan lai sar satran kaatt kai bhoo par ddaare |

Krishna holding his bow intercepted the arrows of the enemies and threw them on the ground

ਘਾਇ ਬਚਾਇ ਕੈ ਯੌ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਹੁਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧੨੦੦॥

ghaae bachaae kai yau tin kai bahure ar kai sir kaatt utaare |1200|

Saving himself from the blows of the enemy, Krishna chopped the heads of many of the opponents.1200.

ajab singh ko sir kattiyo har joo sasatr sanbhaar |

ਅਡਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਘਾਇਲ ਕਰਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਰਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥੧੨੦੧॥

addar singh ghaaeil kario at ran bhoom majhaar |1201|

Krishna cut away the head of Ajaib Singh with his weapons and wounded Addar Singh in the battlefield.1201.

When Addar Singh was wounded, he was extremely enraged

ਬਹੁ ਤੀਛਨ ਬਰਛਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਲਯੋ ॥

bahu teechhan barachhaa tin layo |

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਯੋ ॥੧੨੦੨॥

har kee or ddaar kai dayo |1202|

He took a lance in his hand and discharged it towards Krishna.1202.

ਬਰਛਾ ਆਵਤ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁਖ ਬਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਨ ॥

barachhaa aavat lakhiyo har dhanukh baan kar keen |

ਆਵਤ ਸਰ ਸੋ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਵਹੈ ਭਟ ਲੀਨ ॥੧੨੦੩॥

aavat sar so kaatt kai maar vahai bhatt leen |1203|

Seeing the lance coming, Krishna took his bow and arrows in his hands and intercepted the lance with his arrows, he also killed that warrior.1203.

ਅਘੜ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਖਿ ਤਿਹ ਦਸਾ ਦੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਨਹੀ ਪੀਠਿ ॥

agharr singh lakh tih dasaa det bhayo nahee peetth |

ਸਮੁਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਢੀਠੁ ॥੧੨੦੪॥

samuhe har ke aae kai boliyo hvai kar dteetth |1204|

Aghar Singh did not run away even in being such a bad plight and confronting Krishna, spoke without feeling ashamed.1204.

ਜਿਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਟੀਆ ਮਾਂਗੀ ਪਾਇ ਸੰਧੂਰੁ ॥

jin sir sohan patteea maangee paae sandhoor |

Those heads adorned with braided hair, with their parts painted with vermillion

ਸੇ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਤੀ ਮੁੰਨੀਅਨੑਿ ਗਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ਧੂੜਿ ॥

se sir kaatee muneeana gal vich aavai dhoorr |

those heads were shaved with scissors, and their throats were choked with dust.

ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਦੀਆ ਹੁਣਿ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨੑਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥

mahalaa andar hodeea hun behan na milana hadoor |1|

They lived in palatial mansions, but now, they cannot even sit near the palaces. ||1||

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਬਾਬਾ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥

Hail to You, O Father Lord, Hail to You!

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਵੇਸ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

aad purakh teraa ant na paaeaa kar kar dekheh ves |1| rahaau |

O Primal Lord. Your limits are not known; You create, and create, and behold the scenes. ||1||Pause||

ਜਦਹੁ ਸੀਆ ਵੀਆਹੀਆ ਲਾੜੇ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

jadahu seea veeaaheea laarre sohan paas |

When they were married, their husbands looked so handsome beside them.

ਹੀਡੋਲੀ ਚੜਿ ਆਈਆ ਦੰਦ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

heeddolee charr aaeea dand khandd keete raas |

They came in palanquins, decorated with ivory;

ਉਪਰਹੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਝਲੇ ਝਿਮਕਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

auparahu paanee vaareeai jhale jhimakan paas |2|

water was sprinkled over their heads, and glittering fans were waved above them. ||2||

ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨੑਿ ਬਹਿਠੀਆ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨੑਿ ਖੜੀਆ ॥

eik lakh lehana bahittheea lakh lehana kharreea |

They were given hundreds of thousands of coins when they sat, and hundreds of thousands of coins when they stood.

ਗਰੀ ਛੁਹਾਰੇ ਖਾਂਦੀਆ ਮਾਣਨੑਿ ਸੇਜੜੀਆ ॥

garee chhuhaare khaandeea maanana sejarreea |

They ate coconuts and dates, and rested comfortably upon their beds.

ਤਿਨੑ ਗਲਿ ਸਿਲਕਾ ਪਾਈਆ ਤੁਟਨੑਿ ਮੋਤਸਰੀਆ ॥੩॥

tina gal silakaa paaeea tuttana motasareea |3|

But ropes were put around their necks, and their strings of pearls were broken. ||3||

ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਨੑੀ ਰਖੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥

dhan joban due vairee hoe jinaee rakhe rang laae |

Their wealth and youthful beauty, which gave them so much pleasure, have now become their enemies.

ਦੂਤਾ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

dootaa no furamaaeaa lai chale pat gavaae |

The order was given to the soldiers, who dishonored them, and carried them away.

ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੪॥

je tis bhaavai de vaddiaaee je bhaavai dee sajaae |4|

If it is pleasing to God's Will, He bestows greatness; if is pleases His Will, He bestows punishment. ||4||

ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜੇ ਚੇਤੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਇਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

ago de je cheteeai taan kaaeit milai sajaae |

If someone focuses on the Lord beforehand, then why should he be punished?

ਸਾਹਾਂ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਮਾਸੈ ਚਾਇ ॥

saahaan surat gavaaeea rang tamaasai chaae |

The kings had lost their higher consciousness, reveling in pleasure and sensuality.

ਬਾਬਰਵਾਣੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਈ ਕੁਇਰੁ ਨ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੫॥

baabaravaanee fir gee kueir na rottee khaae |5|

Since Baabar's rule has been proclaimed, even the princes have no food to eat. ||5||

ਇਕਨਾ ਵਖਤ ਖੁਆਈਅਹਿ ਇਕਨੑਾ ਪੂਜਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

eikanaa vakhat khuaaeeeh ikanaa poojaa jaae |

The Muslims have lost their five times of daily prayer, and the Hindus have lost their worship as well.

ਚਉਕੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਹਿੰਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਕਿਉ ਟਿਕੇ ਕਢਹਿ ਨਾਇ ॥

chauke vin hindavaaneea kiau ttike kadteh naae |

Without their sacred squares, how shall the Hindu women bathe and apply the frontal marks to their foreheads?

ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਹੁਣਿ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੬॥

raam na kabahoo chetio hun kehan na milai khudaae |6|

They never remembered their Lord as Raam, and now they cannot even chant Khudaa-i||6||

ਇਕਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਇਕਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਸੁਖ ॥

eik ghar aaveh aapanai ik mil mil puchheh sukh |

Some have returned to their homes, and meeting their relatives, they ask about their safety.

ਇਕਨੑਾ ਏਹੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ॥

eikanaa eho likhiaa beh beh roveh dukh |

For some, it is pre-ordained that they shall sit and cry out in pain.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਨੁਖ ॥੭॥੧੧॥

jo tis bhaavai so theeai naanak kiaa maanukh |7|11|

Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass. O Nanak, what is the fate of mankind? ||7||11||

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਖੇਲ ਤਬੇਲਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਹਾ ਭੇਰੀ ਸਹਨਾਈ ॥

kahaa su khel tabelaa ghorre kahaa bheree sahanaaee |

Where are the games, the stables, the horses? Where are the drums and the bugles?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗਾਡੇਰੜਿ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਲਾਲ ਕਵਾਈ ॥

kahaa su tegaband gaadderarr kahaa su laal kavaaee |

Where are the sword-belts and chariots? Where are those scarlet uniforms?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਆਰਸੀਆ ਮੁਹ ਬੰਕੇ ਐਥੈ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥

kahaa su aaraseea muh banke aithai diseh naahee |1|

Where are the rings and the beautiful faces? They are no longer to be seen here. ||1||

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥

eihu jag teraa too gosaaee |

This world is Yours; You are the Lord of the Universe.

ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਜਰੁ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਭਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ek gharree meh thaap uthaape jar vandd devai bhaanee |1| rahaau |

In an instant, You establish and disestablish. You distribute wealth as it pleases You. ||1||Pause||

ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਘਰ ਦਰ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਹਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਬੰਕ ਸਰਾਈ ॥

kahaan su ghar dar manddap mahalaa kahaa su bank saraaee |

Where are the houses, the gates, the hotels and palaces? Where are those beautiful way-stations?

ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਿ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

kahaan su sej sukhaalee kaaman jis vekh need na paaee |

Where are those beautiful women, reclining on their beds, whose beauty would not allow one to sleep?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਪਾਨ ਤੰਬੋਲੀ ਹਰਮਾ ਹੋਈਆ ਛਾਈ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

kahaa su paan tanbolee haramaa hoeea chhaaee maaee |2|

Where are those betel leaves, their sellers, and the haremees? They have vanished like shadows. ||2||

ਇਸੁ ਜਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਘਣੀ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਇਨਿ ਜਰ ਘਣੀ ਖੁਆਈ ॥

eis jar kaaran ghanee vigutee in jar ghanee khuaaee |

For the sake of this wealth, so many were ruined; because of this wealth, so many have been disgraced.

ਪਾਪਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

paapaa baajhahu hovai naahee mueaa saath na jaaee |

It was not gathered without sin, and it does not go along with the dead.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਖੁਸਿ ਲਏ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ॥੩॥

jis no aap khuaae karataa khus le changiaaee |3|

Those, whom the Creator Lord would destroy - first He strips them of virtue. ||3||

ਕੋਟੀ ਹੂ ਪੀਰ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਮੀਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਧਾਇਆ ॥

kottee hoo peer varaj rahaae jaa meer suniaa dhaaeaa |

Millions of religious leaders failed to halt the invader, when they heard of the Emperor's invasion.

ਥਾਨ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਜਲੇ ਬਿਜ ਮੰਦਰ ਮੁਛਿ ਮੁਛਿ ਕੁਇਰ ਰੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

thaan mukaam jale bij mandar muchh muchh kueir rulaaeaa |

He burned the rest-houses and the ancient temples; he cut the princes limb from limb, and cast them into the dust.

ਕੋਈ ਮੁਗਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਰਚਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

koee mugal na hoaa andhaa kinai na parachaa laaeaa |4|

None of the Mugals went blind, and no one performed any miracle. ||4||

ਮੁਗਲ ਪਠਾਣਾ ਭਈ ਲੜਾਈ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਗ ਵਗਾਈ ॥

mugal patthaanaa bhee larraaee ran meh teg vagaaee |

The battle raged between the Mugals and the Pat'haans, and the swords clashed on the battlefield.

ਓਨੑੀ ਤੁਪਕ ਤਾਣਿ ਚਲਾਈ ਓਨੑੀ ਹਸਤਿ ਚਿੜਾਈ ॥

onaee tupak taan chalaaee onaee hasat chirraaee |

They took aim and fired their guns, and they attacked with their elephants.

ਜਿਨੑ ਕੀ ਚੀਰੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਟੀ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥

jina kee cheeree daragah paattee tinaa maranaa bhaaee |5|

Those men whose letters were torn in the Lord's Court, were destined to die, O Siblings of Destiny. ||5||

ਇਕ ਹਿੰਦਵਾਣੀ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਰਕਾਣੀ ਭਟਿਆਣੀ ਠਕੁਰਾਣੀ ॥

eik hindavaanee avar turakaanee bhattiaanee tthakuraanee |

The Hindu women, the Muslim women, the Bhattis and the Rajputs

ਇਕਨੑਾ ਪੇਰਣ ਸਿਰ ਖੁਰ ਪਾਟੇ ਇਕਨੑਾ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਸਾਣੀ ॥

eikanaa peran sir khur paatte ikanaa vaas masaanee |

some had their robes torn away, from head to foot, while others came to dwell in the cremation ground.

ਜਿਨੑ ਕੇ ਬੰਕੇ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਿਉ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੬॥

jina ke banke gharee na aaeaa tina kiau rain vihaanee |6|

Their husbands did not return home - how did they pass their night? ||6||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥

aape kare karaae karataa kis no aakh sunaaeeai |

The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act. Unto whom should we complain?

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸ ਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਰੂਆਈਐ ॥

dukh sukh terai bhaanai hovai kis thai jaae rooaaeeai |

Pleasure and pain come by Your Will; unto whom should we go and cry?

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੭॥੧੨॥

hukamee hukam chalaae vigasai naanak likhiaa paaeeai |7|12|

The Commander issues His Command, and is pleased. O Nanak, we receive what is written in our destiny. ||7||12||
