ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੈਨਾ ਜਾਦਵੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਘਨੀ ਖਪਾਇ ॥

ਤਬ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਭੂਖਨ ਕੋਪਿ ਭਰਿ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਨੈਨ ਤਚਾਇ ॥੧੧੦੭॥
tab brijabhookhan kop bhar boliyo nain tachaae |1107|
Dhan Singh destroyed much of the Yadava army, then Krishna highly infuriated and gaping his eyes wide open, said,1107
ਕਾਨੁ ਬਾਚ ਸੈਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ॥

ਦੇਖਤ ਹੋ ਭਟ ਠਾਢੇ ਕਹਾ ਹਮ ਜਾਨਤ ਹੈ ਤੁਮ ਪਉਰਖ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dekhat ho bhatt tthaadte kahaa ham jaanat hai tum paurakh haariyo |
“O brave warriors! Why are you standing? I know that you lost your courage
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਭ ਹੂੰ ਰਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਤੇ ਪਗ ਟਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sree dhan singh ke baan chhutte sabh hoon ran manddal te pag ttaariyo |
You began to recede your feet from the battlefield, when Dhan Singh discharged his arrows,
ਸਿੰਘ ਕੇ ਅਗ੍ਰਜ ਜੈਸੇ ਅਜਾ ਗਨ ਐਸੇ ਭਜੇ ਨਹਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
singh ke agraj jaise ajaa gan aise bhaje neh sasatr sanbhaariyo |
“And becoming careless about your weapons you ran in such a way as a gathering of goats runs away before the lion
ਕਾਇਰ ਹੁਇ ਤਿਹ ਪੇਖਿ ਡਰੇ ਨਹਿ ਆਪ ਮਰੇ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੮॥
kaaeir hue tih pekh ddare neh aap mare un kau nahee maariyo |1108|
You have become cowards and have been frightened on seeing him, you have neither died yourselves nor have killed him.”1108.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਭਟ ਦਾਤਨ ਪੀਸ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਭਰੇ ॥
yau sun kai har kee bateeyaa bhatt daatan pees kai krodh bhare |
ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘਹੁੰ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰੇ ॥
dhan baan sanbhaar kai dhaae pare dhan singhahun te nahee naik ddare |
Hearing these words of Krishna, the warriors began to gnash their teeth in great anger and without fearing Dhan Singh, even slightly, they took out their bows, arrows and fell upon him
ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਕਟਿ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
dhan singh saraasan lai kar mai katt daitan ke sir bhoom pare |
ਮਨੋ ਪਉਨ ਕੋ ਪੁੰਜ ਬਹਿਯੋ ਲਗ ਕੇ ਫੁਲਵਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਟੂਟ ਕੈ ਫੂਲਿ ਝਰੈ ॥੧੧੦੯॥
mano paun ko punj bahiyo lag ke fulavaaree mai ttoott kai fool jharai |1109|
Dhan Singh also took out his bow and arrows in his hand and from the other side, because of the attack of the Yadava army, the heads of the demons, being chopped, fell on the earth like the flowers deopping down in the garden by the blowing of fierce wind

ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਆਏ ਭਟ ਗਿਰੇ ਰਨਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਟਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਨਿਪਟ ਸਮੁਹਾਇ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਨ ਸੋ ॥
kop bhare aae bhatt gire ran bhoom katt judh ke nipatt samuhaae singh dhan so |
The warriors came in great anger and being chopped began to fall in front of Dhan Singh, while fighting with him
ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਪਾਨ ਮੈ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਕੋ ਸਮਰ ਜਾਨਿ ਅਉਰ ਦਉਰ ਪਰੇ ਬੀਰਤਾ ਬਢਾਇ ਮਨ ਸੋ ॥
aayudh lai paan mai nidaan ko samar jaan aaur daur pare beerataa badtaae man so |
Holding their bows and arrows in their hands, they came running before him in heroic vein, considering it a decisive war
ਕੋਪ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਲੈ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਸੁ ਬਾਨ ਤਾਨਿ ਜੁਦੇ ਕਰ ਡਾਰੇ ਸੀਸ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਸੋ ॥
kop dhan singh lai saraasan su baan taan jude kar ddaare sees tin hee ke tan so |
Dhan Singh also being highly infuriated, taking his bow and arrows in his hand, he separated their heads form their trunks
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਬਸੁੰਧਰਾ ਕੀ ਧੀਰਤਾ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੀਨੀ ਨਿਜ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਬਿੰਦ ਪੁਹਪਨ ਸੋ ॥੧੧੧੦॥
maanahu basundharaa kee dheerataa nihaar indr keenee nij poojaa arabind puhapan so |1110|
It seemed that seeing the power of endurance of the earth, Indra was worshipping it, offering it flowers.1110.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਯੋ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭਟ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

Dhan Singh in extremen anger in the war killed many warriors
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਬਰ ਆਵਤ ਹੇ ਸੁ ਹਨੇ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਰੁਤ ਮੇਘ ਬਿਡਾਰੇ ॥
aaur jite bar aavat he su hane jan maarut megh biddaare |
Others who came in front of him, he destroyed them all just as the clouds are fragmented by the blow of wind instantly
ਜਾਦਵ ਕੇ ਦਲ ਕੇ ਗਜ ਕੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਦਲ ਕੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
jaadav ke dal ke gaj ke halake dal ke halake kar ddaare |
He, with his great strength, reduced considerable, numerous elephants and horses of the Yadava army
ਝੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਇਕ ਯੌ ਧਰਨੀ ਮਨੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਲਗੇ ਗਿਰ ਭਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੧੧॥
jhoom gire ik yau dharanee mano indr ke bajr lage gir bhaare |1111|
Those warriors had fallen on the earth like the mountains, whose wings had been chopped by the Vajra (weapon) of Indra.1111.
ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਅਸਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਧਰੇ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਰੇ ਗਜਰਾਜ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
kop bhare as paan dhare dhan singh are gajaraaj sanghaare |
Catching hold of his sword in his hand, Dhan Singh in great rage killed many large elephants
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਗਜ ਪੁੰਜ ਹੁਤੇ ਡਰ ਮਾਨਿ ਭਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਧੁਜਵਾਰੇ ॥
aaur jite gaj punj hute ddar maan bhaje at hee dhujavaare |
All the remaining chariots with banners fled away in fear
ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
taa chhab kee upamaa kab sayaam kahai man mai su bichaar uchaare |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਆਗਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਭੂ ਧਰ ਕੈ ਧਰਿ ਪੰਖ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੧੨॥
maanahu indr ke aagam te ddar bhoo dhar kai dhar pankh padhaare |1112|
The poet says that that spectacle appeared to him like the mountains growing wings were flying away, realizing the approach of god Indra.1112.
ਜੁਧ ਕੀਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਘਨੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਕੋਊ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ਬੀਰ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
judh keeyo dhan singh ghano tih ke koaoo saamuhi beer na aayo |
Dhan Singh waged a dreadful war and none could withstand him
ਸੋ ਰਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਸਿਉ ਆਨਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀਯੋ ਸੋਈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
so ran kop siau aan pariyo nahee jaan deeyo soee maar giraayo |
Whosoever came in front of him, Dhan Singh killed him in his anger
ਦਾਸਰਥੀ ਦਲ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਮਿ ਰਾਵਨ ਰੋਸ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
daasarathee dal siau jim raavan ros bhariyo at judh machaayo |
It appeared that Ravana had begun a terrible war with the forces of Ram
ਤੈਸੇ ਭਿਰਿਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਹਨਿ ਕੈ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਚਮੂੰ ਪੁਨਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੧੩॥
taise bhiriyo dhan singh balee han kai chaturang chamoon pun dhaayo |1113|
Fighting in this way, destroying the four divisions of the army be rushed forward again.1113.
ਟੇਰਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਰਨ ਤ︀ਯਾਗ ਸੁਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਨ ਜਈਯੈ ॥
tter kahiyo dhan singh balee ran tayaag suno har bhaaj na jeeyai |
The mighty Dhan Singh shouting loudly said, “O Krishna! do not leave the field and run away now
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਨਿ ਭਿਰੋ ਨਿਜ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨ ਕਟਈਯੈ ॥
taa te sanbhaar ke aan bhiro nij lokan ko birathaa na katteeyai |
Come yourself and fight with me, and do not get your people killed uselessly
ਹੇ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਸਮੁਹਾਇ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਈਯੈ ॥
he balidev saraasan lai ham so samuhaae kai judh kareeyai |
ਸੰਗਰ ਕੇ ਸਮ ਅਉਰ ਕਛੂ ਨਹੀ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜਸੁ ਪਈਯੈ ॥੧੧੧੪॥
sangar ke sam aaur kachhoo nahee yaa te duhoon jag mai jas peeyai |1114|
“O Balram! you may also come with your bow and arrows in your hand and fight with me, because there is nothing like the war, through which one gets praise in this and the next world.”1114.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਅਰਿ ਕੀ ਤਰਕੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
yau sun kai bateeyaa ar kee tarakee man mai at kop bhariyo hai |
ਬਾਲ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਹੂੰ ਧਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
baal kamaan kripaan gadaa geh kai jadubeer hoon dhaae pariyo hai |
All this talk of the enemy went deeper into the mind of Krishna, who in great anger fell upon him catching hold of his bow, sword, mace etc.
ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਫੇਰਿ ਫਿਰਿਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
judh ke fer firiyo dhan singh saraasan lai nahee naik ddariyo hai |
ਬਾਨਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਸਾਥ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੧੫॥
baanan kee barakhaa kar kai har siau lar kai bal saath ariyo hai |1115|
Dhan Singh also caught hold of his bow with fearless mind and turned again fro battle and stood firmly against Krishna.1115.
ਇਤ ਤੇ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਤਾਤੋ ॥
eit te balibhadr su kop bhariyo ut te dhan singh bhayo at taato |
On this side Balram was filled with rage and on the other side Dhan Singh got reddened with fury
ਜੁਧ ਕੀਯੋ ਰਿਸਿ ਘਾਇਨ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਦੁਹੂੰਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ ਭਯੋ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤੋ ॥
judh keeyo ris ghaaein so su duhoon ke ang bhayo rang raato |
Both of them fought and blood oozing out of their wounds reddened their bodies
ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਭੂਲਿ ਗਈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਸਾਤੋ ॥
maar hee maar pukaar pare ar bhool gee man kee sudh saato |
The enemies forgetting the consciousness of their bodies and minds began to shoud “Kill, Kill”
ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਲਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਗਜ ਸੋ ਗਜ ਮਾਤੋ ॥੧੧੧੬॥
raam kahai ih bhaat larai har so har jiau gaj so gaj maato |1116|
The poet says that they fought like an elephant with an elephant.1116.
ਜੋ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਵਾਰ ਬਚਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਪਨੋ ਆਪੁ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥
jo baladev karai tih vaar bachaae kai aapano aap sanbhaare |
He was saving himself from the blow of Balram and there and then he was running and striking blows on him with his sword
ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੋ ਅਸਿ ਦਉਰਿ ਤਬੈ ਕਸਿ ਕੈ ਬਲ ਊਪਰ ਘਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
lai kar mo as daur tabai kas kai bal aoopar ghaae prahaare |
Seeing his brother in trouble
ਬੀਰ ਪੈ ਭੀਰ ਲਖੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੁ ਜਾਦਵ ਲੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਓਰ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥
beer pai bheer lakhee jadubeer su jaadav lai rip or sidhaare |
Krishna taking some Yadava warriors with him, moved to that side
ਘੇਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਨਿਸ ਮੈ ਸਸਿ ਕੀ ਢਿਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਖ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੧੭॥
gher layo dhan singh tabai nis mai sas kee dtig jiau lakh taare |1117|
He surrounded Dhan Singh like lakhs of stars on all the four sides of the moon.1117.
ਬੇੜਿ ਲਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੁ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੋਊ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
berr layo dhan singh jabai gaj singh ju tthaadto huto soaoo dhaayo |
When Dhan Dingh was surrounded, then Gaj Singh who was standing near came there
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਚੜਿ ਸਯੰਦਨ ਵਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਧਵਾਯੋ ॥
sree baladev lakhiyo tab hee charr sayandan vaahee kee or dhavaayo |
When Balram saw this, he mounted on his chariot and came to that side,
ਆਵਨ ਸੋ ਨ ਦਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਉ ਅਧ ਬੀਚ ਹੀ ਬਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਬਿਰਮਾਯੋ ॥
aavan so na dayo har lau adh beech hee baanan so biramaayo |
ਠਾਢੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਹਾ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਗਜ ਕੇ ਪਗਿ ਸਾਕਰ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੧੮॥
tthaadto rahiyo gaj singh tahaa su mano gaj ke pag saakar paayo |1118|
And he did not allow Gaj singh to reach there and intercepted him midway, Gaj Singh stopped there as if the feet of the elephant had been enchanined.1118.
ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਬਿ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dhan singh so sree har judh kare kab raam kahai kahoon jaat na maariyo |
Krishna is fighting with Dhan Singh and none of them is being killed
ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਜੂ ਕਰ ਬੀਚ ਸੁ ਆਪਨੇ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kop bhariyo madhusoodan joo kar beech su aapane chakr sanbhaariyo |
Now Krishna, greatly infuriated held up his discus in his discus in his hand
ਛਾਡਿ ਦਯੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਸੀਸ ਉਤਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
chhaadd dayo ran mai bar kai dhan singh ko kaatt kai sees utaariyo |
He threw the discus, which cut off the head of Dhan Singh in the battlefield
ਯੌ ਤਰਫਿਯੋ ਧਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਨੋ ਮੀਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੧੯॥
yau tarafiyo dhar bhoom bikhai mano meen sarovar te geh ddaariyo |1119|
He writhed on the earth like a fish taken out of the tank.1119.
ਮਾਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਲਖਿ ਜਾਦਵ ਸੰਖ ਬਜਾਏ ॥
maar layo dhan singh jabai tab hee lakh jaadav sankh bajaae |
As soon as Dhan Singh was killed, the Yadavas blew their conch on seeing it
ਕੇਤਕ ਬੀਰ ਕਟੇ ਬਿਕਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਕਿ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥
ketak beer katte bikatte har so lar kai har lok sidhaae |
Many warriors fought with Krishna and being chopped, they left for heaven
ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਹਾ ਯਹ ਕਉਤੁਕ ਦੇਖ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਸਮਾਏ ॥
tthaadto huto gaj singh jahaa yeh kautuk dekh mahaa bisamaae |
The place whre Gaj Singh was standing, he was wonder-struck on seeing this spectacle
ਤਉ ਲਗਿ ਭਾਗਲਿ ਆਇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜੋ ਰਹੇ ਭਜਿ ਕੈ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਏ ॥੧੧੨੦॥
tau lag bhaagal aae kahiyo jo rahe bhaj kai tumare peh aae |1120|
Then the fleeing soldiers came to him and said, “Now we are the only survivors and have come to you.”1120.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
yau sun kai tin ke mukh te gaj singh balee at kop bhariyo |
Hearing these words from their mouth, the mighty hero Gaj Singh was greatly infuriated
ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਧਵਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਰਥੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥
kab sayaam nihaar kai raam kee or dhavaae tahaa rath jaae pariyo |
The poet says that seeing towards Balram, he caused his chariot to run towards him and then fell upon him
ਤਜਿ ਸੰਕ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਹੁਇ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਹਾ ਤਿਨ ਯੌ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥
taj sank nisank hue judh kariyo jadubeer kahaa tin yau uchariyo |
Krishna said, “He is Dhan Singh, who fought fearlessly
ਧਨਿ ਹੈ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧ ਤਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੧॥
dhan hai dhan singh balee har ke samuhe lar kai bhav sindh tariyo |1121|

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੋ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੁ ਲੋਕ ਰਹੇ ਸੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
prem so yau keh kai mukh te paralok su lok rahe su bichaariyo |
Saying thus with affection, Krishna thought about his life in this and the next world
ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਬਡੋ ਬਰਛਾ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tej prachandd baddo barachhaa ris kai kar mai gaj singh sanbhaariyo |
On this side Gaj Singh, in great fury took his terrific lance in his hand,
ਜਾਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰ ਅਬੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jaahu kahaa balabhadr abai kab sayaam kahai ih bhaat uchaariyo |
ਸੋ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੨॥
so bar kai kar ko tan ko jadubeer ke bhraat ke aoopar ddaariyo |1122|
And struck Balram saying this, “O Balram! where will you go now for your safety?”1122.
ਆਵਤ ਇਉ ਬਰਛਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸੁ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
aavat iau barachhaa geh kai baladev su ek upaae kariyo hai |
ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਨਿਹੁਰਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਰਿ ਹੁਇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sayandan pai nihuriyo tab hee chhatree tar hue ih bhaat ariyo hai |
Cathing the coming lance, Balram took this measure: seeing towards the horses, he spread himself there making himself like an umbrella
ਫੋਰਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਭਯੋ ਫਲ ਯੌ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਯੌ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
for kai paar bhayo fal yau tih kee upamaa kab yau uchariyo hai |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕਲਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਹੁ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿਯੋ ਅਹਿ ਕੋ ਫਨੁ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੨੩॥
maanahu kalindr ke sringahu te nikasiyo eh ko fan kop bhariyo hai |1123|
The piercing point of the lance tearing the body to the other side is seen like an angry hooded snake looking from the top of a mountain.1123.
ਬਲ ਸੋ ਬਲਿ ਖੈਚ ਲਯੋ ਬਰਛਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਸੋ ਤਿਰਛਾ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਯੋ ॥
bal so bal khaich layo barachhaa tih ke kar so tirachhaa su bhramaayo |
Pulling out the lance with his strength, Balram revolved it slantingly
ਯੌ ਚਮਕਿਯੋ ਦਮਕਿਯੋ ਨਭ ਮੈ ਚੁਟੀਆ ਉਡ ਤੇਜੁ ਮਨੋ ਦਰਸਾਯੋ ॥
yau chamakiyo damakiyo nabh mai chutteea udd tej mano darasaayo |
It flashed and waved in the sky in this way as if the top-knot of someone was waving
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
sree balabhadr ayodhan mai ris kai gaj singh kee or chalaayo |
Balram struck the same lance in the battlefield in great anger on Gaj Singh
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਪਰੀਛਤ ਕਉ ਜਮਦੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕਿਧੋ ਚਮਕਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੪॥
maanahu kaal pareechhat kau jamadandd prachandd kidho chamakaayo |1124|
The same lance being struck looked like the fatal fire sent by mighty Death to kill the king Parikshat.1124.
ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਨੇਕ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੀਏ ਨ ਬਚਿਯੋ ਉਰਿ ਆਇ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਬਰਛਾ ਬਰਿ ॥
gaj singh anek upaae kee na bachiyo ur aae lagiyo barachhaa bar |
Gaj Singh took several steps, but he could not save himself
ਭੂਪ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਹੈ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਸੀਸ ਹਹਾ ਕਹਿ ਮੀਚਤ ਹੈ ਕਰ ॥
bhoop bilokat hai sigare dhun sees hahaa keh meechat hai kar |
The lance penetrated in his chest, all the kings saw it and they lamented, wringing their hands
ਘਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਮੁਰਛਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਤਜ︀ਯੋ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਸਰ ॥
ghaau prachandd lagiyo tih ko murachhaae pariyo na tajayo kar te sar |
He received a dreadful wound and became unconscious, but he did not let go the arrows from his hand
ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਗਿਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਗਜਰਾਜ ਕਲੇਵਰ ॥੧੧੨੫॥
sayandan pai gaj singh giriyo gir aoopar jiau gajaraaj kalevar |1125|
Gaj Singh fell upon the horses of the chariot like the body of an elephant fallen on a mountain.1125.
ਚੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕੁਵੰਡ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
chet bhayo tab hee gaj singh sanbhaar prachandd kuvandd chalaayo |
ਕਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਖੈਂਚ ਕੇ ਆਨਿ ਸੁ ਤਾਨ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਕੋਪ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
kaan pramaan lau khainch ke aan su taan kai baan prakop chalaayo |
When he regained consciousness, Gaj Singh pulled his terrible bow and pulling its string upto his ear discharged the arrow in great rage
ਏਕ ਤੇ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਅਨੇਕ ਚਲੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹੁ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
ek te hue kai anek chale tih kee upamaa kahu bhaakh sunaayo |
ਪਉਨ ਕੇ ਭਛਕ ਤਛਕ ਲਛਕ ਲੈ ਬਲਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਗਤਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੬॥
paun ke bhachhak tachhak lachhak lai bal kee saranaagat aayo |1126|
Many arrows emanted from this arrow and not enduring the fury of these arrows Takashak, the king of the serpents alongwith all other serpents went to take refuge with Balram.1126.
ਬਾਨ ਨ ਏਕ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
baan na ek lagiyo bal ko gaj singh tabai ih bhaat kahiyo hai |
ਸੇਸ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਧਨੇਸ ਦਿਨੇਸ ਮਹੇਸ ਨਿਸੇਸ ਖਗੇਸ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
ses sures dhanes dines mahes nises khages gahiyo hai |
Thundering in the battlefield, Gaj Singh said, “I have captured all the deities like Sheshanaga, Indra, Surya (Sun-god), Kuber, Shiva, Chandra (moon-god), Garuda etc.
ਜੁਧ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੈ ਸੋਊ ਬੀਰ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜੁ ਚਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
judh bikhai ab lau sun lai soaoo beer hanayo man mai ju chahiyo hai |
“Listen to me clearly I have killed in the battlefield,
ਏਕ ਅਚੰਭਵ ਹੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਦੇਖਤ ਤੋ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਕਸ ਜੀਵ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੨੭॥
ek achanbhav hai muhi dekhat to tan mai kas jeev rahiyo hai |1127|
Whomsoever I wanted to kill, but I wonder why you have survived still?”1127.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਬਲਿ ਸੋ ਬਰਛਾ ਧੁਜ ਸੰਜੁਤ ਖੈਂਚਿ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
yau keh kai bateeyaa bal so barachhaa dhuj sanjut khainch chalaayo |
ਤਉ ਧਨੁ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਸੋਊ ਆਵਤ ਨੈਨਨ ਸੋ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
tau dhan lai kar mai musalee soaoo aavat nainan so lakh paayo |
Saying this, he pulled and threw his lance, which was seen by Balram who was holding his bow in his hand
ਉਗ੍ਰ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ਬਾਨ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਕਟਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
augr paraakram kai sang baan achaanak so katt bhoom giraayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਪੰਖਨ ਕੋ ਅਹਿਵਾ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਹਾਥਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਰਿਸਿ ਘਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੮॥
maanahu pankhan ko ahivaa khagaraaj ke haath pariyo ris ghaayo |1128|
With his great strength, he intercepted that lance and caused it to fall on the ground just like Garuda the king of birds catching and killing a flying serpent.1128.
ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਯੋ ਬਰਛਾ ਅਰਿ ਓਰ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
kop bhariyo at hee gaj singh layo barachhaa ar or chalaayo |
In great fury, Gaj Singh struck the lance on the enemy, which hit the body of Balram
ਜਾਇ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਕੇ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਗਤ ਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jaae lagiyo musaleedhar ke tan laagat taa at hee dukh paayo |
On receiving the blow of the lance, Balram suffered great agony
ਪਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਭਯੋ ਫਲ ਯੌ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
paar prachandd bhayo fal yau jas taa chhab ko man mai ih aayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਗੰਗ ਕੀ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਧਿ ਉਤੰਗ ਹੁਇ ਕੂਰਮ ਸੀਸ ਉਚਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੨੯॥
maanahu gang kee dhaar ke madh utang hue kooram sees uchaayo |1129|
That lance pierced through the body to the other side and its visible blade looked like tortoise protruding its head through the current of Ganges.1129.
ਲਾਗਤ ਸਾਗ ਕੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਸਯੰਦਨ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਖੈਚ ਕਢਿਯੋ ॥
laagat saag kee sree balabhadr su sayandan te geh khaich kadtiyo |
ਮੁਰਝਾਇ ਕੈ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਮਨੋ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਢਿਯੋ ॥
murajhaae kai bhoom pariyo na mariyo sur brichh giriyo mano jot madtiyo |
Balram pulled out the lance from his body and drooping down he fell upon the earth just as the Elysian tree, fully enlightened, falls down on the earth
ਜਬ ਚੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਛੂਟਿ ਗਯੋ ਉਠਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਭਯੋ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਪੁ ਬਢਿਯੋ ॥
jab chet bhayo bhram chhoott gayo utth tthaadto bhayo man kop badtiyo |
When he regained his conscious, he, realizing the situation, got highly infuriated
ਰਥ ਹੇਰ ਕੈ ਧਾਇ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਬਰ ਸੋ ਗਿਰਿ ਪੈ ਮਨੋ ਕੂਦ ਕੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਚਢਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੩੦॥
rath her kai dhaae charriyo bar so gir pai mano kood kai singh chadtiyo |1130|
Seeing the chariot, he jumped and mounted it like a lion jumping and ascending the mountain.1130.
ਪੁਨਿ ਆਇ ਭਿਰਿਯੋ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੋ ਬੀਰ ਬਲੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
pun aae bhiriyo gaj singh so beer balee man mai nahee naik ddariyo |
ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਰਿਸਿ ਬੀਚ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
dhan baan sanbhaar kripaan gadaa ris beech ayodhan judh kariyo |
He came forward again and fought with Gaj Singh and controlling the bow and arrows, sword, mace etc., he began to strike blows
ਜੋਊ ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਸਰੁ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਨਨ ਕੇ ਸੋਊ ਕਾਟਿ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
joaoo aavat bhayo sar satran ko sang baanan ke soaoo kaatt ddariyo |
He intercepted the arrows of the enemy with his own arrows
ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਮਹਾ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਛਿਤ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਗ ਟਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੩੧॥
kab sayaam kahai baladev mahaa ran kee chhit te nahee paig ttariyo |1131|
The poet says that Balram did not retrace even one step in the battlefield.1131.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਹਲ ਮੂਸਲ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਅਰ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
bahuro hal moosal lai kar mai ar siau ar kai at judh machaayo |
ਲੈ ਬਰਛਾ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਬਲਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
lai barachhaa gaj singh balee bal siau balidev kee or chalaayo |
Taking his plough and mace, Balram fought a dreadful battle and on this side Gaj Singh also threw his lance towards Balram
ਆਵਤ ਸੋ ਲਖਿ ਕੈ ਫਲ ਕੋ ਹਲ ਕਟਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
aavat so lakh kai fal ko hal katt kai pun bhoom giraayo |
Seeing the coming lance, Balram intercepted it with his plough and threw its blade on the ground
ਸੋ ਫਲ ਹੀਨ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਕਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਗਾਤਿ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੩੨॥
so fal heen bhayo jab hee kas kai balibhadr ke gaat lagaayo |1132|
And that bladeless lance came and struck the body of Balram.1132.
ਖਗ ਕਰੰ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਨੰਤ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਕੋਪਿ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
khag karan geh kai gaj singh anant ke aoopar kop chalaayo |
ਤਉ ਮਸਲੀ ਕਰਿ ਚਰਮ ਲੀਯੋ ਧਰਿ ਯੌ ਅਰਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਘਾਉ ਬਚਾਯੋ ॥
tau masalee kar charam leeyo dhar yau ar kau bal ghaau bachaayo |
When Gaj Singh in his rage struck a blow with his sword from which Balram saved himself with his shield
ਢਾਲ ਕੇ ਫੂਲ ਪੈ ਧਾਰ ਬਹੀ ਚਿਨਗਾਰ ਉਠੀ ਕਬਿ ਯੌ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
dtaal ke fool pai dhaar bahee chinagaar utthee kab yau gun gaayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਪਾਵਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਸਿ ਮੈ ਬਿਜੁਰੀ ਦੁਤਿ ਤਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੩੩॥
maanahu paavas kee nis mai bijuree dut taaran ko pragattaayo |1133|
The sparkles came out from the shield, which appeared like flashing lightning during night exhibiting the stars in rainy reason.1133.
ਘਾਇ ਹਲੀ ਸਹਿ ਕੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਸੁ ਬਾਰ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
ghaae halee seh kai rip ko geh kai karavaar su baar kariyo hai |
Enduring the wound inflicted by the enemy, Balram struck a blow with his sword
ਧਾਰ ਬਹੀ ਅਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਟਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਝਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
dhaar bahee ar kantth bikhai katt kai tih ko sir bhoom jhariyo hai |
The edge of the sword struck the throat of the enemy and his head, being chopped, fell on the ground
ਬਜ੍ਰ ਜਰੇ ਰਥ ਤੇ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਯੌ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
bajr jare rath te giriyo tih ko jas yau kab nai uchariyo hai |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਤਾਰਨ ਲੋਕ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਭਾਨੁ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਸਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੩੪॥
maanahu taaran lok hoon te sur bhaan hanayo sir bhoom pariyo hai |1134|
He fell from his chariot after receiving the blow of Vajra (the weapon) and the poet says, while describing that spectacle that it appeared to him that for the welfare of the people, Vishnu had cut off the head of Rahu and thrown it on the earth.1134.
ਮਾਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਭਟ ਭਾਗੇ ॥
maar layo gaj singh jabai taj kai ran ko sabh hee bhatt bhaage |
When Gaj Singh was killed, then all the warriors, ran away from the battlefield
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਭਰੇ ਲਖਿ ਲੋਥ ਡਰੇ ਨਹਿ ਧੀਰ ਧਰੇ ਨਿਸ ਕੇ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
sraun bhare lakh loth ddare neh dheer dhare nis ke jan jaage |
Seeing his corpse besmeared with blood, all of them lost the power of endurance and were bewildered as if they had not slept for several nights
ਮਾਰਿ ਲਏ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪੰਚ ਭਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਗੇ ॥
maar le nrip panch bhage tin yau kahiyo jaa apane prabh aage |
The warriors of the enemy’s army came to their Lord Jarasandh and said, “All the chief kings have been killed in the battlefield
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਦਲਿ ਧੀਰ ਛੁਟਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹੀਯੋ ਫਟਿਯੋ ਰਿਸ ਮੈ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ ॥੧੧੩੫॥
yau sun kai dal dheer chhuttiyo nrip heeyo fattiyo ris mai anuraage |1135|
” Hearing these words, the remining army lost their endurance and in great anger, the king experienced an unbearable sorrow.11

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਦਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
sinmrit saasatr bahu karam kamaae prabh tumare daras bin sukh naahee |1|
One may read the Simritees and the Shaastras, and perform all sorts of religious rituals; and yet, without the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, God, there is no peace at all. ||1||

varat nem sanjam kar thaake naanak saadh saran prabh sang vasai |2|2|151|
People have grown weary of observing fasts, vows and rigorous self-discipline; Nanak abides with God, in the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||2||2||151||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਦਿ ਸੋਇਓ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
bikaar maaeaa maad soeo soojh boojh na aavai |
He sleeps, intoxicated by corruption and Maya; he does not come to realize or understand.
ਪਕਰਿ ਕੇਸ ਜਮਿ ਉਠਾਰਿਓ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
pakar kes jam utthaario tad hee ghar jaavai |1|
Seizing him by the hair, the Messenger of Death pulls him up; then, he comes to his senses. ||1||
ਲੋਭ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਖੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਹਿਰਿ ਵਿਤ ਚਿਤ ਦੁਖਾਹੀ ॥
lobh bikhiaa bikhai laage hir vit chit dukhaahee |
Those who are attached to the poison of greed and sin grab at the wealth of others; they only bring pain on themselves.
ਖਿਨ ਭੰਗੁਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਸੁਰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khin bhangunaa kai maan maate asur jaaneh naahee |1| rahaau |
They are intoxicated by their pride in those things which shall be destroyed in an instant; those demons do not understand. ||1||Pause||
ਬੇਦ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਜਨ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਸੁਨੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਡੋਰਾ ॥
bed saasatr jan pukaareh sunai naahee ddoraa |
The Vedas, the Shaastras and the holy men proclaim it, but the deaf do not hear it.
ਨਿਪਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰਿ ਮੂਕਾ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਭੋਰਾ ॥੨॥
nipatt baajee haar mookaa pachhutaaeo man bhoraa |2|
When the game of life is over, and he has lost, and he breathes his last, then the fool regrets and repents in his mind. ||2||
ਡਾਨੁ ਸਗਲ ਗੈਰ ਵਜਹਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਨ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
ddaan sagal gair vajeh bhariaa deevaan lekhai na pariaa |
He paid the fine, but it is in vain - in the Court of the Lord, his account is not credited.
ਜੇਂਹ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਓਲੑਾ ਸੋਇ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
jenh kaaraj rahai olaa soe kaam na kariaa |3|
Those deeds which would have covered him - those deeds, he has not done. ||3||
ਐਸੋ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
aiso jag mohi gur dikhaaeo tau ek keerat gaaeaa |
The Guru has shown me the world to be thus; I sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the One Lord.
ਮਾਨੁ ਤਾਨੁ ਤਜਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੨॥
maan taan taj siaanap saran naanak aaeaa |4|1|152|
Renouncing his pride in strength and cleverness, Nanak has come to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||1||152||

ਬਾਪਾਰਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਨਾਏ ॥

Dealing in the Name of the Lord of the Universe,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤ ਮਨਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਨਾਦ ਤੂਰ ਬਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadh sant manaae pria paae gun gaae panch naad toor bajaae |1| rahaau |
and pleasing the Saints and holy men, obtain the Beloved Lord and sing His Glorious Praises; play the sound current of the Naad with the five instruments. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜਾਏ ਦਰਸਾਏ ਅਬ ਰਾਤਿਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ॥
kirapaa paae sahajaae darasaae ab raatiaa govind siau |
Obtaining His Mercy, I easily gained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; now, I am imbued with the Love of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਾਥ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲਨ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
sant sev preet naath rang laalan laae |1|
Serving the Saints, I feel love and affection for my Beloved Lord Master. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਰਹਸਾਏ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ਸਹਜਾਏ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur giaan man drirraae rahasaae nahee aae sahajaae man nidhaan paae |
The Guru has implanted spiritual wisdom within my mind, and I rejoice that I shall not have to come back again. I have obtained celestial poise, and the treasure within my mind.
ਸਭ ਤਜੀ ਮਨੈ ਕੀ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਾ ॥
sabh tajee manai kee kaam karaa |
I have renounced all of the affairs of my mind's desires.
ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
chir chir chir chir bheaa man bahut piaas laagee |
It has been so long, so long, so long, so very long, since my mind has felt such a great thirst.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ॥
har darasano dikhaavahu mohi tum bataavahu |
Please, reveal to me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, and show Yourself to me.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਏ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫੩॥
naanak deen saran aae gal laae |2|2|153|
Nanak the meek has entered Your Sanctuary; please, take me in Your embrace. ||2||2||153||

ਕੋਊ ਬਿਖਮ ਗਾਰ ਤੋਰੈ ॥
koaoo bikham gaar torai |
Who can destroy the fortress of sin,
ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸ ਧੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aas piaas dhoh moh bharam hee te horai |1| rahaau |
and release me from hope, thirst, deception, attachment and doubt? ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਾਨ ਇਹ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਛੋਰੈ ॥੧॥
kaam krodh lobh maan ih biaadh chhorai |1|
How can I escape the afflictions of sexual desire, anger, greed and pride? ||1||
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੁਨ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
santasang naam rang gun govind gaavau |
In the Society of the Saints, love the Naam, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥
anadino prabh dhiaavau |
Night and day, meditate on God.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥
bhram bheet jeet mittaavau |
I have captured and demolished the walls of doubt.
ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਰੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੫੪॥
nidh naam naanak morai |2|3|154|
O Nanak, the Naam is my only treasure. ||2||3||154||

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥

Renounce sexual desire, anger and greed;
ਮਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ॥
man simar gobind naam |
remember the Name of the Lord of the Universe in your mind.
ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਸਫਲ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har bhajan safal kaam |1| rahaau |
Meditation on the Lord is the only fruitful action. ||1||Pause||
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ॥
taj maan moh vikaar mithiaa jap raam raam raam |
Renounce pride, attachment, corruption and falsehood, and chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਮਨ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਕੈ ਚਰਨਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
man santanaa kai charan laag |1|
O mortal, attach yourself to the Feet of the Saints. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥
prabh gopaal deen deaal patit paavan paarabraham har charan simar jaag |
God is the Sustainer of the world, Merciful to the meek, the Purifier of sinners, the Transcendent Lord God. Awaken, and meditate on His Feet.
ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੫੫॥
kar bhagat naanak pooran bhaag |2|4|155|
Perform His devotional worship, O Nanak, and your destiny shall be fulfilled. ||2||4||155||
