ਦੇਖਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਸਭ ਜਾਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਾਥ ॥

Seeing the army of Yadavas with him, Krishna spoke loudly with his charioteer,1046

ਹਮਰੋ ਰਥ ਦਾਰੁਕ ਤੈ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਜ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਿਉ ਅਬ ਤਾ ਰਨ ਕਉ ॥
hamaro rath daaruk tai kar saaj bhalee bidh siau ab taa ran kau |
ਅਸਿ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਗਦਾ ਧਰੀਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੀ ਧੁਜਨੀ ਸੁ ਬਿਦਾਰਨ ਕਉ ॥
as taa meh chakr gadaa dhareeyo rip kee dhujanee su bidaaran kau |
“O Daruk! decorate my chariot very nicely and place in it the disc and mace and all the weapons and arms which can destroy the banner of the enemy
ਸਬ ਜਾਦਵ ਲੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਹਉ ਸੁ ਪਧਾਰਤ ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਨ ਕਉ ॥
sab jaadav lai apane sang hau su padhaarat dait sanghaaran kau |
“I am going to destroy the demons taking all the Uadavas with me
ਕਿਹ ਹੇਤ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੁਨ ਲੈ ਹਮ ਪੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਦੁਖ ਟਾਰਨ ਕਉ ॥੧੦੪੭॥
kih het chaliyo sun lai ham pai apune nrip ke dukh ttaaran kau |1047|
You should know this that I am going to remove the suffering of my kng.”1047.

ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤਬਿ ਕਟ ਸਿਉ ਕਸਿਯੋ ਨਿਖੰਗ ॥

ਹਲ ਮੂਸਲ ਹਲਧਰਿ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਕਛੁ ਜਾਦਵ ਲੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੧੦੪੮॥
hal moosal haladhar gahiyo kachh jaadav lai sang |1048|
Saying this, Krishna tied his quiver around his waist and taking some Yadavas with him, Balram also carried the plough and pentle.1048.

ਦੈਤਨ ਮਾਰਨ ਹੇਤ ਚਲੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਭਟ ਦਾਨੀ ॥
daitan maaran het chale apune sang lai sabh hee bhatt daanee |
Krishna moved forward alongwith the warriors in order to kill the demons
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰਹਿ ਸੰਗ ਲਏ ਜਿਹ ਕੇ ਬਲ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਪਤਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
sree balibhadreh sang le jih ke bal kee gat sreepat jaanee |
He took also balram with him, the measure of whose power is known only to God Himself
ਕੋ ਸਮ ਭੀਖਮ ਹੈ ਇਨ ਕੇ ਅਰੁ ਕੋ ਭ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਨੰਦਨੁ ਰਾਵਨੁ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
ko sam bheekham hai in ke ar ko bhrig nandan raavan baanee |
ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕਾਰਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਚਲੇ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਧਰਿ ਜੂ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥੧੦੪੯॥
satran ke badh kaaran sayaam chale musalee dhar joo abhimaanee |1049|
Who is there so dreadful like them and the fulfiller of their pledge like Parashurama? Balram and Krishna moved forward proudly in order to kill the enemies.1049.
ਬਾਧਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਲੈ ਚੜਿ ਸਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥
baadh kripaan saraasan lai charr sayandan pai jadubeer sidhaare |
ਭਾਖਤ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਧਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਹੈ ਸਭੈ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
bhaakhat bain sudhaa mukh te su kahaa hai sabhai sut bandh hamaare |
Krishna moved forward taking his bow and arrows and the sword and mounting on his chariot, he spoke sweet, nectar-like words saying that all the companions were his brothers
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਇਨ ਕੇ ਸਬ ਸਾਥ ਸੁ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥
sree prabh paaein ke sab saath su yau keh kai ik beer pukaare |
ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਲ ਮੈ ਬਲਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੦੫੦॥
dhaae pare ar ke dal mai bal siau balidev halaayudh dhaare |1050|
Taking the support of the feet of Krishna, all the warriors roared dreadfully like a lion and Balram etc. fell upon the army of the enemy with their weapons.1050.
ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਅਰਿ ਕੀ ਪਤਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਮਨ ਮੋ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ॥
dekhat hee ar kee patanaa har joo man mo at kop bhare |
Seeing the army of the enemy, Krishna was extremely infuriated
ਸੁ ਧਵਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਰਥੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਧੁਜਨੀ ਪਤ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰੇ ॥
su dhavaae tahaa rath jaae pare dhujanee pat te nahee naik ddare |
He ordered his charioteer to move forward and thereby befell upon the general of the enemy’s army
ਸਿਤ ਬਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਹਨੇ ਜੋਊ ਸਾਜ ਜਰਾਇਨ ਸਾਥ ਜਰੇ ॥
sit baanan so gaj baaj hane joaoo saaj jaraaein saath jare |
ਮਨੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਲਗੇ ਟੁਟ ਕੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਗਿਰ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰੇ ॥੧੦੫੧॥
mano indr ke bajr lage ttutt kai dharanee gir sring sumer pare |1051|
He knocked down the elephants and horses with his arrows and they fell down by the Vajra of the Indra.1051.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਤੀਰ ਛੁਟੇ ਛੁਟ ਕੈ ਭਟ ਘਾਏ ॥
sree jadubeer saraasan te bahu teer chhutte chhutt kai bhatt ghaae |
ਪੈਦਲ ਮਾਰਿ ਰਥੀ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਕਰਿ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਘਨੇ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥
paidal maar rathee birathee kar satr ghane jamalok patthaae |
Many arrows were discharged from the bow of Krishna and many warriors were killed by them, the men on foot were killed, the charioteers were deprived of their chariots and many enemies were dispatched to the abode of Yama
ਭਾਜਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਗਏ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਜੋਊ ਲਾਜ ਭਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
bhaaj anek ge ran te joaoo laaj bhare har pai pun aae |
ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਕੇ ਹਾਥ ਲਗੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੧੦੫੨॥
te brijanaath ke haath lage grih kau fir jeevat jaan na paae |1052|
Many warriors ran away and those who felt shy while running they again fought with Krishna, but none could escape death at the hands of Krishna.1052.
ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਪਰੇ ॥
kop bhare ran mai bhatt yau chahoon oran te lalakaar pare |
The warriors are getting enraged in the battlefield and the shouts are being heard from all the four sides
ਕਰਿ ਚਉਪ ਭਿਰੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨੰਦ ਨੰਦਨ ਤੇ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਡਰੇ ॥
kar chaup bhire apane man mai nand nandan te na ratee ku ddare |
The fighters of the army of the enemy are fighting with great excitement and they are not fearing even a little from Krishna
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਲੈ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਉਨ ਕੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਹਰੇ ॥
tab hee brijanaath saraasan lai chhin mai un ke abhimaan hare |
ਜੋਊ ਆਵਤ ਭੇ ਧਨ ਬਾਨ ਧਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਕਰੇ ॥੧੦੫੩॥
joaoo aavat bhe dhan baan dhare har joo sigare bin praan kare |1053|
Taking his bow and arrows in his hands, Krishna is shattrering their pride in an instant and whosoever confronts him, Krishna killing him makes him lifeless.1053.

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਪੁਸਟ ਬਾਤ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਸੀਧਰੀ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਜਨਈ ॥
apusatt baat te bhee seedharee doot dusatt sajanee |
That which was upside-down has been set upright; the deadly enemies and adversaries have become friends.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਓ ਮਲੀਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹਛਨਈ ॥੧॥
andhakaar meh ratan pragaasio maleen budh hachhanee |1|
In the darkness, the jewel shines forth, and the impure understanding has become pure. ||1||
ਜਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਈ ॥
jau kirapaa gobind bhee |
When the Lord of the Universe became merciful,
ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukh sanpat har naam fal paae satigur milee |1| rahaau |
I found peace, wealth and the fruit of the Lord's Name; I have met the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਈ ॥
mohi kirapan kau koe na jaanat sagal bhavan pragattee |
No one knew me, the miserable miser, but now, I have become famous all over the world.
ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਠਨੋ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਹੁਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਚਰਣ ਸੇਵਈ ॥੨॥
sang baitthano kahee na paavat hun sagal charan sevee |2|
Before, no one would even sit with me, but now, all worship my feet. ||2||
ਆਢ ਆਢ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਤ ਢੂੰਢਤੇ ਮਨ ਸਗਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ॥
aadt aadt kau firat dtoondtate man sagal trisan bujh gee |
I used to wander in search of pennies, but now, all the desires of my mind are satisfied.
ਏਕੁ ਬੋਲੁ ਭੀ ਖਵਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੀਤਲਈ ॥੩॥
ek bol bhee khavato naahee saadhasangat seetalee |3|
I could not bear even one criticism, but now, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am cooled and soothed. ||3||
ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਵਨ ਵਖਾਨੈ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮਈ ॥
ek jeeh gun kavan vakhaanai agam agam agamee |
What Glorious Virtues of the Inaccessible, Unfathomable, Profound Lord can one mere tongue describe?
ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੪॥
daas daas daas ko kareeahu jan naanak har saranee |4|2|124|
Please, make me the slave of the slave of Your slaves; servant Nanak seeks the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||2||124||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਰੇ ਮੂੜੇ ਲਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਢੀਲਾ ਢੀਲਾ ਤੋਟੇ ਕਉ ਬੇਗਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
re moorre laahe kau toon dteelaa dteelaa totte kau beg dhaaeaa |
O fool, you are so slow to earn your profits, and so quick to run up losses.
ਸਸਤ ਵਖਰੁ ਤੂੰ ਘਿੰਨਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਬਾਧਾ ਰੇਨਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sasat vakhar toon ghineh naahee paapee baadhaa renaaeaa |1|
You do not purchase the inexpensive merchandise; O sinner, you are tied to your debts. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸਾਇਆ ॥
satigur teree aasaaeaa |
O True Guru, You are my only hope.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਓਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
patit paavan tero naam paarabraham mai ehaa ottaaeaa |1| rahaau |
Your Name is the Purifier of sinners, O Supreme Lord God; You are my only Shelter. ||1||Pause||
ਗੰਧਣ ਵੈਣ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਉਰਝਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਲਕਾਇਆ ॥
gandhan vain suneh urajhaaveh naam lait alakaaeaa |
Listening to the evil talk, you are caught up in it, but you are hesitant to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਕਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਮਾਹਿਓ ਬੂਝੀ ਉਲਟਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nind chind kau bahut umaahio boojhee ulattaaeaa |2|
You are delighted by slanderous talk; your understanding is corrupt. ||2||
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਤੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਅਖਾਧਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ॥
par dhan par tan par tee nindaa akhaadh khaeh harakaaeaa |
Others' wealth, others' wives and the slander of others - eating the uneatable, you have gone crazy.
ਸਾਚ ਧਰਮ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਛੋਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
saach dharam siau ruch nahee aavai sat sunat chhohaaeaa |3|
You have not enshrined love for the True Faith of Dharma; hearing the Truth, you are enraged. ||3||
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਗਤ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥
deen deaal kripaal prabh tthaakur bhagat ttek har naaeaa |
O God, Merciful to the meek, Compassionate Lord Master, Your Name is the Support of Your devotees.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਹਿ ਸਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਓ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨੫॥
naanak aaeh saran prabh aaeo raakh laaj apanaaeaa |4|3|125|
Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary; O God, make him Your Own, and preserve his honor. ||4||3||125||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਏ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ॥
mithiaa sang sang lapattaae moh maaeaa kar baadhe |
They are attached to falsehood; clinging to the transitory, they are trapped in emotional attachment to Maya.
ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਸੋ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਭਏ ਆਂਧੇ ॥੧॥
jeh jaano so cheet na aavai ahanbudh bhe aandhe |1|
Wherever they go, they do not think of the Lord; they are blinded by intellectual egotism. ||1||
ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧੇ ॥
man bairaagee kiau na araadhe |
O mind, O renunciate, why don't you adore Him?
ਕਾਚ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਸਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੀ ਬਿਆਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaach kottharee maeh toon basataa sang sagal bikhai kee biaadhe |1| rahaau |
You dwell in that flimsy chamber, with all the sins of corruption. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਲੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਅਰਜਾਧੇ ॥
meree meree karat din rain bihaavai pal khin chheejai arajaadhe |
Crying out, "Mine, mine", your days and nights pass away; moment by moment, your life is running out.
ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਏ ਝੂਠ ਧੰਧਿ ਦੁਰਗਾਧੇ ॥੨॥
jaise meetthai saad lobhaae jhootth dhandh duragaadhe |2|
The sweet flavors tempt you, and you are occupied by your false and filthy business. ||2||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਇਹ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਰਸਿ ਲਪਟਾਧੇ ॥
kaam krodh ar lobh moh ih indree ras lapattaadhe |
Your senses are beguiled by sensual pleasures of sex, by anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਦੀਈ ਭਵਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਨਮਾਧੇ ॥੩॥
deeee bhavaaree purakh bidhaatai bahur bahur janamaadhe |3|
The All-powerful Architect of Destiny has ordained that you shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||3||
ਜਉ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਲਾਧੇ ॥
jau bheo kripaal deen dukh bhanjan tau gur mil sabh sukh laadhe |
When the Destroyer of the pains of the poor becomes merciful, then, as Gurmukh, you shall find absolute peace.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਾਢੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਧੇ ॥੪॥
kahu naanak din rain dhiaavau maar kaadtee sagal upaadhe |4|
Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord, day and night, and all your sickness shall be banished. ||4||
ਇਉ ਜਪਿਓ ਭਾਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
eiau japio bhaaee purakh bidhaate |
Meditate in this way, O Siblings of Destiny, on the Lord, the Architect of Destiny.
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੬॥
bheo kripaal deen dukh bhanjan janam maran dukh laathe |1| rahaau doojaa |4|4|126|
The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful; He has removed the pains of birth and death. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||126||
