ਜੋਰਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਸਬ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਤਬ ਯੌ ਰਨ ਸਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
jor chamoon sab mantr lai tab yau ran saaj samaaj banaayo |
Taking alongwith him all the four divisions of his army and his ministers, the king launched the vicious war
ਤੇਈਸ ਛੂਹਨ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਬੰਬ ਤਹਾ ਕਹੁ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
teees chhoohan lai dal sang bajaae kai banb tahaa kahu dhaayo |
He moved with dreadful tundering alongwith his twenty-three units of huge armies
ਬੀਰ ਬਡੇ ਸਮ ਰਾਵਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਮਰਿਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਆਯੋ ॥
beer badde sam raavan ke tin kau sang lai maribe kahu aayo |
He reached alongwith powerful Ravana like heroes
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਦਿਨ ਬਾਰਿਧ ਫੈਲ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਜਲੁ ਯੌ ਦਲੁ ਛਾਯੋ ॥੧੦੩੫॥
maanahu kaal pralai din baaridh fail pariyo jal yau dal chhaayo |1035|
His forces were spread like the sea at the time of dissolution.1035.
ਨਗ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਨਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਤਿਹ ਮੈ ਮਛੁਰੀ ਪੁਨਿ ਪੈਦਲ ਕੀ ਬਲ ਜੇਤੀ ॥
nag maanahu naag badde tih mai machhuree pun paidal kee bal jetee |
Huge warriors are powerful like the mountains and Sheshanaga
ਚਕ੍ਰ ਮਨੋ ਰਥ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬਨੇ ਉਪਜੀ ਕਵਿ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਹੀ ਤੇਤੀ ॥
chakr mano rath chakr bane upajee kav kai man mai kahee tetee |
The army of Jarasandh on foot is like the fish in the sea, the wheels of the chariots of the army are like sharp discs,
ਹੈ ਭਏ ਬੋਚਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਮਨੋ ਲਹਰੈ ਬਹਰੈ ਬਰਛੀ ਦੁਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ॥
hai bhe bochan tul mano laharai baharai barachhee dut setee |
And the flash of the daggers of the soldiers and their movement is like thecrocodiles of the sea
ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕਿਧੌ ਦਲ ਸੰਧਿ ਜਰਾ ਰਹਿਗੀ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਜਾ ਤਿਹ ਮਧ ਬਰੇਤੀ ॥੧੦੩੬॥
sindh kidhau dal sandh jaraa rahigee mathuraa jaa tih madh baretee |1036|
The army of Jarasandh is like the sea and before this vast army, Matura is like a small island.1036.
ਜੋ ਬਲ ਬੰਡ ਬਡੇ ਦਲ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਅਗ੍ਰ ਕਥਾ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਹਉ ॥
jo bal bandd badde dal mai tih agr kathaa meh naam kahai hau |
ਜੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਲਰੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜਸ ਕੋ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਉ ॥
jo sang sayaam larai ris kai tin ke jas ko mukh te ucharai hau |
In the forthcoming story, I have mentioned the names of those great heroes, who is anger fought with Krishna and eulogised them
ਜੇ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਿਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਥ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਕ ਰਿਝੈ ਹਉ ॥
je balibhadr ke sang bhire tin kau kath kai prabh lok rijhai hau |
I have also mentioned the fighters with Balbhadra and pleased the people
ਤ︀ਯਾਗ ਸਭੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲਾਲਚ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗੈ ਹਉ ॥੧੦੩੭॥
tayaag sabhai grih laalach ko har ke har ke har ke gun gai hau |1037|
Now I will eulogise the lion-like Krishna, forsaking all types of greed.1037.

ਜਦੁਬੀਰਨ ਸਬ ਹੂੰ ਸੁਨੀ ਦੂਤ ਕਹੀ ਜਬ ਆਇ ॥
jadubeeran sab hoon sunee doot kahee jab aae |
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਬ ਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਸਦਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੦੩੮॥
mil sab hoon nrip ke sadan mantr bichaariyo jaae |1038|
When the messenger told about the attack, then all the people of the Yadava clan heard it and all of them gathering together went to the house of the king to ponder over the situation.1038.

ਤੇਈਸ ਛੂਹਨ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਢਿਯੋ ਹਮ ਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਭਰਿ ਰੋਹੈ ॥
teees chhoohan lai dal sang chadtiyo ham pai at hee bhar rohai |
The king told that taking alongwith him the twenty-three units of his immense army, Jarasandh in great fury has attacked us
ਜਾਇ ਲਰੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਇਹ ਲਾਇਕ ਯਾ ਪੁਰ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਕੋ ਹੈ ॥
jaae larai ar ke samuhe ih laaeik yaa pur mai ab ko hai |
Who is there here in this city who can confront the enemy
ਜੋ ਭਜਿ ਹੈ ਡਰੁ ਮਾਨਿ ਘਨੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਬ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਮਾਰਤ ਸੋ ਹੈ ॥
jo bhaj hai ddar maan ghano ris kai sab ko tab maarat so hai |
If we run away, we lose our honour and they will kill all of us in anger, therefore we have to fight with the army of Jarasandh without hesitation
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਭਿਰੋ ਇਨ ਸੋ ਜਿਤ ਹੈ ਤੁ ਭਲੋ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਏ ਜਸੁ ਹੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੩੯॥
taa te nisank bhiro in so jit hai tu bhalo mrit e jas ho hai |1039|
Because if we win, it will be good for us and if we die, we shall gain honour.1039.
ਤਉ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਰਿਸਿ ਬੀਚ ਸਭਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਲ ਸੋ ॥
tau jadubeer kahiyo utth kai ris beech sabhaa apune bal so |
ਅਬ ਕੋ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਬਡੋ ਹਮ ਮੈ ਚਲਿ ਆਗੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਲਰੈ ਦਲ ਸੋ ॥
ab ko balavandd baddo ham mai chal aage hee jaae larai dal so |
Then Krishna stood up in the court and said, “Who is so powerful amonst us who may fight with the enemy,
ਅਪਨੋ ਬਲ ਧਾਰਿ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਕੈ ਦਾਨਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੈ ਸਭ ਭੂ ਤਲ ਸੋ ॥
apano bal dhaar sanghaar kai daanav door karai sabh bhoo tal so |
“And assuming power, he may remove the demons fron this earth
ਬਹੁ ਭੂਤ ਪਿਸਾਚਨ ਕਾਕਨਿ ਡਾਕਨਿ ਤੋਖ ਕਰੈ ਪਲ ਮੈ ਪਲ ਸੋ ॥੧੦੪੦॥
bahu bhoot pisaachan kaakan ddaakan tokh karai pal mai pal so |1040|
He may offer his flesh to the ghosts, fiends and vampires etc., and may satisfy the people becoming a martyr in the battlefield.”1040.
ਜਬ ਯਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨਹੀ ਧੀਰ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥
jab yaa bidh so jadubeer kahiyo kinahoon man mai nahee dheer dhariyo |
When Krishna said like this, then the endurance of everyone gave way
ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਬੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਹੂੰ ਭਜਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਚਿਤ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
har dekh tabai mukh baae rahe sabh hoon bhajabe kahu chit kariyo |
Seeing Krishna, their mouths remined wide open and they all began to think of running away
ਜੋਊ ਮਾਨ ਹੁਤੋ ਮਨਿ ਛਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਸੋਊ ਓਰਨਿ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਤੁਲ ਗਰਿਯੋ ॥
joaoo maan huto man chhatrin ke soaoo oran kee sam tul gariyo |
The honour of all the Kshatriyas melted away like the hails in rain
ਕੋਊ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਸਾਮੁਹੈ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਬਿਧਿ ਯਾ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੪੧॥
koaoo jaae na saamuhai satran ke nrip ne mukh te bidh yaa uchariyo |1041|
None could make himself so bold as to fight with the enemy and boldly come forward to fulfil the desire of the king.1041.
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਬਾਧਿ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਲਰਬੇ ਤੇ ਡਰੇ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਮਨੁ ਭਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
kinahoon neh dheeraj baadh sakiyo larabe te ddare sabh ko man bhaajiyo |
None could preserve his endurance and everyone’s mind sped away from the idea of war
ਭਾਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਬ ਹੂੰ ਬਿਧ ਕੀ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਪਿ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਸਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
bhaajan kee sab hoon bidh kee kinahoon nahee kop saraasan saajiyo |
None could hold his bow and arrows in anger and thus dropped the idea of fighting, all of them planned to run away
ਯੌ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਪੁਨਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਉਠਿਓ ਗਜ ਕੋ ਬਧਿ ਕੈ ਜਿਮ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਗਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
yau har joo pun bol utthio gaj ko badh kai jim kehar gaajiyo |
Seeing this, Krishna thundered like a lion after killing the elephant
ਅਉਰ ਭਲੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਕੋ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਘਨ ਸਾਵਨ ਲਾਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੪੨॥
aaur bhalee upamaa upajee dhun ko sun kai ghan saavan laajiyo |1042|
Even the clouds of the month of Sawan felt shy on seeing him thundering.1042.

ਰਾਜ ਨ ਚਿੰਤ ਕਰੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਹਮਹੂੰ ਦੋਊ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਲਰੈਗੇ ॥
raaj na chint karo man mai hamahoon doaoo bhraat su jaae laraige |
“O King! rule without anxiety
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਜੁਧ ਕਰੈਗੇ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan gadaa geh kai ran bheetar judh karaige |
We, both the brothers will go to fight and wage a dreadful war carrying bow, arrows, sword, mace etc.
ਜੋ ਹਮ ਊਪਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਹੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਕੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹਰੈਗੇ ॥
jo ham aoopar kop kai aae hai taeh ke asatr siau praan haraige |
“Anyone who confronts us, we shall destroy him with our arms
ਪੈ ਉਨ ਕੋ ਮਰਿ ਹੈ ਡਰ ਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਆਹਵ ਤੇ ਪਗ ਦੁਇ ਨ ਟਰੈਗੇ ॥੧੦੪੩॥
pai un ko mar hai ddar hai nahee aahav te pag due na ttaraige |1043|
We shall vanquish him and will not even go two steps backward.”1043.
ਇਉ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਯੌ ਦੋਊ ਠਾਢ ਭਏ ਚਲ ਕੈ ਨਿਜੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
eiau keh kai yau doaoo tthaadt bhe chal kai nij maat pitaa peh aae |
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਹਾਥਨ ਜੋਰਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਇਨ ਊਪਰ ਮਾਥ ਲੁਡਾਏ ॥
aavat hee duhoon haathan jor kai paaein aoopar maath luddaae |
Saying this, both the brothers stood up and came to their parents, before whom they bowed reverently
ਮੋਹੁ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਅਉ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਲੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੁਤ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਏ ॥
mohu badtiyo basudev aau devakee lai apune sut kantth lagaae |
Seeing them, the attackment of Vasudev and Devki increased and they hugged both the sons to their bosoms
ਜੀਤਹੁਗੇ ਤੁਮ ਦੈਤਨ ਸਿਉ ਭਜਿ ਹੈ ਅਰਿ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਘਨ ਬਾਤ ਉਡਾਏ ॥੧੦੪੪॥
jeetahuge tum daitan siau bhaj hai ar jayo ghan baat uddaae |1044|
They said, “You will conquer the demons and they will run away just as the clouds run away before the wind.”1044.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਦੋਊ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਤਜਿ ਧਾਮ ਸੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
maat pitaa kau pranaam doaoo kar kai taj dhaam su baahar aae |
Bowing before their parents, both the heroes left their home and came out
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਆਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਪੁਰ ਬੀਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥
aavat hee sabh aayudh lai pur beer jite sabh hee su bulaae |
On coming out they took all the weapons and called all the warriors
ਦਾਨ ਘਨੇ ਦਿਜ ਕਉ ਦਏ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਚਿਤ ਬਢਾਏ ॥
daan ghane dij kau de sayaam duhoon mil aanand chit badtaae |
The Brahmins were given great number of gifts in charity and they were greatly pleased in mind
ਆਸਿਖ ਦੇਤ ਭਏ ਦਿਜ ਇਉ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਇ ਹੋ ਜੀਤਿ ਘਨੇ ਅਰਿ ਘਾਏ ॥੧੦੪੫॥
aasikh det bhe dij iau grih aae ho jeet ghane ar ghaae |1045|
They blessed both the brothers and said, “You will kill the enemies and return safely to your home.”1045.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਿਤਵਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਉ ਆਗੈ ਭਾਵਉ ਕਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਉ ॥
chitvau chitav sarab sukh paavau aagai bhaavau ki na bhaavau |
Contemplating Him within my consciousness, I obtain total peace; but hereafter, will I be pleasing to Him or not?
ਏਕੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਹੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੂਸਰ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
ek daataar sagal hai jaachik doosar kai peh jaavau |1|
There is only One Giver; all others are beggars. Who else can we turn to? ||1||
ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਆਨ ਲਜਾਵਉ ॥
hau maagau aan lajaavau |
When I beg from others, I am ashamed.
ਸਗਲ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal chhatrapat eko tthaakur kaun samasar laavau |1| rahaau |
The One Lord Master is the Supreme King of all; who else is equal to Him? ||1||Pause||
ਊਠਉ ਬੈਸਉ ਰਹਿ ਭਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਾਵਉ ॥
aootthau baisau reh bhi na saakau darasan khoj khojaavau |
Standing up and sitting down, I cannot live without Him. I search and search for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਸਨਾਤਨ ਸਨਤਕੁਮਾਰ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਵਉ ॥੨॥
brahamaadik sanakaadik sanak sanandan sanaatan sanatakumaar tina kau mehal dulabhaavau |2|
Even Brahma and the sages Sanak, Sanandan, Sanaatan and Sanat Kumar, find it difficult to obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||2||
ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਆਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
agam agam aagaadh bodh keemat parai na paavau |
He is unapproachable and unfathomable; His wisdom is deep and profound; His value cannot be appraised.
ਤਾਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥੩॥
taakee saran sat purakh kee satigur purakh dhiaavau |3|
I have taken to the Sanctuary of the True Lord, the Primal Being, and I meditate on the True Guru. ||3||
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਟਿਓ ਬੰਧੁ ਗਰਾਵਉ ॥
bheo kripaal deaal prabh tthaakur kaattio bandh garaavau |
God, the Lord Master, has become kind and compassionate; He has cut the noose of death away from my neck.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਉ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੧॥
kahu naanak jau saadhasang paaeo tau fir janam na aavau |4|1|121|
Says Nanak, now that I have obtained the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I shall not have to be reincarnated again. ||4||1||121||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਜਾਗਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
antar gaavau baahar gaavau gaavau jaag savaaree |
Inwardly, I sing His Praises, and outwardly, I sing His Praises; I sing His Praises while awake and asleep.
ਸੰਗਿ ਚਲਨ ਕਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਦੀਨੑਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
sang chalan kau tosaa deenaa gobind naam ke biauhaaree |1|
I am a trader in the Name of the Lord of the Universe; He has given it to me as my supplies, to carry with me. ||1||
ਅਵਰ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
avar bisaaree bisaaree |
I have forgotten and forsaken other things.
ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦੀਓ ਮੈ ਏਹੋ ਆਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam daan gur poorai deeo mai eho aadhaaree |1| rahaau |
The Perfect Guru has given me the Gift of the Naam; this alone is my Support. ||1||Pause||
ਦੂਖਨਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਸਮੑਾਰੀ ॥
dookhan gaavau sukh bhee gaavau maarag panth samaaree |
I sing His Praises while suffering, and I sing His Praises while I am at peace as well. I contemplate Him while I walk along the Path.
ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਆ ਮੋਰੀ ਤਿਸਾ ਬੁਝਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
naam drirr gur man meh deea moree tisaa bujhaaree |2|
The Guru has implanted the Naam within my mind, and my thirst has been quenched. ||2||
ਦਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਰੈਨੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਰਸਨਾਰੀ ॥
din bhee gaavau rainee gaavau gaavau saas saas rasanaaree |
I sing His Praises during the day, and I sing His Praises during the night; I sing them with each and every breath.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਤ ਸੰਗਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
satasangat meh bisaas hoe har jeevat marat sangaaree |3|
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, this faith is established, that the Lord is with us, in life and in death. ||3||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਵਉ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
jan naanak kau ihu daan dehu prabh paavau sant ren ur dhaaree |
Bless servant Nanak with this gift, O God, that he may obtain, and enshrine in his heart, the dust of the feet of the Saints.
ਸ੍ਰਵਨੀ ਕਥਾ ਨੈਨ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਉ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੨॥

jis no toon asathir kar maaneh te paahun do daahaa |
That which you believe to be permanent, is a guest here for only a few days.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੧॥
putr kalatr grih sagal samagree sabh mithiaa asanaahaa |1|
Children, wives, homes, and all possessions - attachment to all of these is false. ||1||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਹਾ ਹਾ ॥
re man kiaa kareh hai haa haa |
O mind, why do you burst out laughing?
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
drisatt dekh jaise harichandauree ik raam bhajan lai laahaa |1| rahaau |
See with your eyes, that these things are only mirages. So earn the profit of meditation on the One Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਦੇਹ ਓਢਾਨੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਇ ਚਾਰਿ ਭੋਰਾਹਾ ॥
jaise basatar deh odtaane din doe chaar bhoraahaa |
It is like the clothes which you wear on your body - they wear off in a few days.
ਭੀਤਿ ਊਪਰੇ ਕੇਤਕੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਓਰਕੋ ਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
bheet aoopare ketak dhaaeeai ant orako aahaa |2|
How long can you run upon a wall? Ultimately, you come to its end. ||2||
ਜੈਸੇ ਅੰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਪਰਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਾ ॥
jaise anbh kundd kar raakhio parat sindh gal jaahaa |
It is like salt, preserved in its container; when it is put into water, it dissolves.
ਆਵਗਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਚਸਾਹਾ ॥੩॥
aavag aagiaa paarabraham kee utth jaasee muhat chasaahaa |3|
When the Order of the Supreme Lord God comes, the soul arises, and departs in an instant. ||3||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਲੈਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
re man lekhai chaaleh lekhai baiseh lekhai laidaa saahaa |
O mind, your steps are numbered, your moments spent sitting are numbered, and the breaths you are to take are numbered.
ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਓਟਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥
sadaa keerat kar naanak har kee ubare satigur charan ottaahaa |4|1|123|
Sing forever the Praises of the Lord, O Nanak, and you shall be saved, under the Shelter of the Feet of the True Guru. ||4||1||123||
