ਬਚਿਯੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਾਤ ਬਡੇ ਅਹਿ ਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਹੂੰ ਬਕ ਬੀਰ ਬਲੀ ਹਨਿ ਦਈਯਾ ॥
bachiyo jin taat badde eh te jin hoon bak beer balee han deeyaa |
ਜਾਹਿ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਅਘ ਨਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਿਪੁ ਪੈ ਪਿਅਰਵਾ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਭਈਆ ॥
jaeh mariyo agh naam mahaa rip pai piaravaa musaleedhar bheea |
He, who saved his father from the enormous snake, he, who killed the powerful demon Bakasura, he, the brother of dear Haldhar (Balram) who killed the demon named Aghasura
ਜੋ ਤਪਸ︀ਯਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਪਰਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਈਯਾ ॥
jo tapasayaa kar kai prabh te kab sayaam kahai par paaein leeyaa |
And he, whose feet can be realised by meditating on the Lord,
ਸੋ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਨ ਛੀਨ ਲਯੋ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਸੁਨੀਯੇ ਸਖੀ ਪੂਤ ਕਨ੍ਰਹਈਆ ॥੮੬੦॥
so pur baasan chheen layo ham te suneeye sakhee poot kanraheea |860|
O friend! that Lord Krishna of mine has been snatched away from me by the residents of Mathura.860.

ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਪੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਸੋਕ ਸੁ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
sun kai ih baat sabhai mil gvaaran pai mil kai tin sok su keeno |
Hearing these words all the gopis were filled with sorrow
ਆਨੰਦ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਤਿਨਹੂੰ ਮਨ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
aanand door kariyo man te har dhayaan bikhai tinahoon man deeno |
The bliss of their mind had ended and all of them meditated on Krishna
ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਸੋ ਮੁਰਝਾਇ ਗਿਰੀ ਸੁ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਸੁ ਪਸੀਨੋ ॥
dharanee par so murajhaae giree su pariyo tin ke tan te su paseeno |
The sweat flowed from their bodies and becoming dejected, they fell down upon the earth
ਹਾਹੁਕ ਲੈਨ ਲਗੀ ਸਭਿ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਹੀਨੋ ॥੮੬੧॥
haahuk lain lagee sabh hee su bhayo sukh te tin ko tan heeno |861|
They began to wail and their mind and body lost all happiness.861.
ਅਤਿ ਆਤੁਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
at aatur hvai har preeteh so kab sayaam kahai har ke gun gaavai |
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਸੁਧ ਮਲਾਰ ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਭੀਤਰ ਤਾਨ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
soratth sudh malaar bilaaval saarang bheetar taan basaavai |
Having been greatly worried in the love of Krishna, they sing his praises keeping in their mind the tunes of the musical modes of Sorath, Shuddh Malhar, Bilawal, Sarang etc.
ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਧ︀ਯਾਨਹਿ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
dhiaan dharai tih te jeey mai tih dhayaaneh te at hee dukh paavai |
ਯੌ ਮੁਰਝਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਖ ਤਾ ਸਸਿ ਜਿਉ ਪਿਖਿ ਕੰਜ ਮਨੋ ਮੁਰਝਾਵੈ ॥੮੬੨॥
yau murajhaavat hai mukh taa sas jiau pikh kanj mano murajhaavai |862|
They are meditating on him in their mind and getting extremely aggrieved by it, they are withering like the lotus seeing the moon during the night.862.
ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਹਮਹੂੰ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
pur baasan sang rache har joo hamahoon man te jaduraae bisaaree |
Now Krishna has absorbed himself with the residents of the city and has forgotten us from his mind
ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਠਉਰ ਹਮ ਊਪਰ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸੁ ਟਾਰੀ ॥
tayaag ge ham ko ih tthaur ham aoopar te at preet su ttaaree |
He has left us here and now we forsake his love
ਪੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਯਨ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਭੈ ਗਿਰਧਾਰੀ ॥
pai keh kai na kachh patthiyo tih treeyan ke bas bhai giradhaaree |
How wonderful it is that there he has come so much under the impact of women, that there he has not even sent a message to us
ਏਕ ਗਿਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਐਸੇ ਧਰਾ ਇਕ ਕੂਕਤ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਹਹਾ ਰੀ ਹਹਾ ਰੀ ॥੮੬੩॥
ek giree kahoon aise dharaa ik kookat hai su hahaa ree hahaa ree |863|
Saying thus, someone fell on the earth and someone has begun to cry and lament.863.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਬੋਲਤ ਹੈ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
eih bhaat so gvaaran bolat hai jeey mai at maan udaasee |
In this way, getting highly sorrowful, the gopis are talking to one another
ਸੋਕ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਗਏ ਹਿਤ ਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
sok badtiyo tin ke jeey mai har ddaar ge hit kee tin faasee |
The grief is increasing in their heart, because entrapping them in love, Krishna has abandoned them and gone away
ਅਉ ਰਿਸ ਮਾਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਨ ਮਾਨਤ ਲੋਗਨ ਹਾਸੀ ॥
aau ris maan kahai mukh te jaduraae na maanat logan haasee |
Sometimes in ire they say why Krishna does not care for the ironical shafts of the people
ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਹਮੈ ਸੁ ਗਏ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਮੈ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਫਸੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਬਾਸੀ ॥੮੬੪॥
tayaag hamai su ge brij mai pur baasin sang fase brij baasee |864|
That he has left us in Braja and there he is involved with the residents of the city.864.
ਰੋਦਨ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨੀਯਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
rodan kai sabh gvaaraneeyaa mil aise kahiyo at hoe bichaaree |
ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਜੈ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਗਏ ਤਜਿ ਨੇਹ ਅਨੇਹ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
tayaag brijai mathuraa mai ge taj neh aneh kee baat bichaaree |
All the gopis in their lamentation are saying modestly, “Abandoning the thoughts of love and separation, Krishna has gone to Mathura from Braja
ਏਕ ਗਿਰੈ ਧਰਿ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਕਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਰੀ ॥
ek girai dhar yau keh kai ik aise sanbhaar kahai brijanaaree |
ਰੀ ਸਜਨੀ ਸੁਨੀਯੋ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥਿ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥੮੬੫॥
ree sajanee suneeyo bateeyaa brij naar sabhai brijanaath bisaaree |865|
Saying this someone is falling on the earth and someone, protecting herself, is saying, “O friends! listen to me, the Lord of Braja has forgotten all the women of Braja.”865,
ਆਖਨਿ ਆਗਹਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਲਗੈ ਸਖੀ ਦੇਤ ਨਹੀ ਕਿ ਹੇਤ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥
aakhan aageh tthaadt lagai sakhee det nahee ki het dikhaaee |
Krishna is always standing before my eyes, therefore I do not see anything else
ਜਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਦੁਚਿਤਾਈ ॥
jaa sang kel kare ban mai tih te at hee jeey mai duchitaaee |
They had been absorbed with him in amorous play, their dilemma is increasing now on remembering him
ਹੇਤੁ ਤਜਿਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਬਾਸਨ ਸੋ ਨ ਸੰਦੇਸ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਜੀਯ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਢਿਠਾਈ ॥
het tajiyo brij baasan so na sandes patthiyo jeey kai su dtitthaaee |
He has forsaken the love of the residents of Braja and has become hard-hearted, because he has not sent any message
ਤਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਪਿਖੀਯੈ ਨਹੀ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਹਹਾ ਮੋਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੮੬੬॥
taahee kee or nihaarat hai pikheeyai nahee sayaam hahaa moree maaee |866|
O my mother! we are seeing towards that Krishna, but he is not visible.866

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ਅਉਗਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮੑਾਰਿਆ ॥
bandhan kaatt bisaare aaugan apanaa birad samaariaa |
He has cut away my bonds, and overlooked my shortcomings, and so He has confirmed His nature.
ਹੋਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤ ਨਿਆਈ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
hoe kripaal maat pit niaaee baarik jiau pratipaariaa |1|
Becoming merciful to me, like a mother or a father, he has come to cherish me as His own child. ||1||
ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਰਾਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਿ ॥
gurasikh raakhe gur gopaal |
The GurSikhs are preserved by the Guru, by the Lord of the Universe.
ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਏ ਮਹਾ ਭਵਜਲ ਤੇ ਅਪਨੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaadt lee mahaa bhavajal te apanee nadar nihaal |1| rahaau |
He rescues them from the terrible world ocean, casting His Glance of Grace upon them. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jaa kai simaran jam te chhutteeai halat palat sukh paaeeai |
Meditating in remembrance on Him, we escape from the Messenger of Death; here and hereafter, we obtain peace.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
saas giraas japahu jap rasanaa neet neet gun gaaeeai |2|
With every breath and morsel of food, meditate, and chant with your tongue, continually, each and every day; sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||
ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ॥
bhagat prem param pad paaeaa saadhasang dukh naatthe |
Through loving devotional worship, the supreme status is obtained, and in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sorrows are dispelled.
ਛਿਜੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਾਠੇ ॥੩॥
chhijai na jaae kichh bhau na biaape har dhan niramal gaatthe |3|
I am not worn down, I do not die, and nothing strikes fear in me, since I have the wealth of the Lord's Immaculate Name in my purse. ||3||
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
ant kaal prabh bhe sahaaee it ut raakhanahaare |
At the very last moment, God becomes the mortal's Help and Support; here and hereafter, He is the Savior Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੀਤ ਹੀਤ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥
praan meet heet dhan merai naanak sad balihaare |4|6|45|
He is my breath of life, my friend, support and wealth; O Nanak, I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||4||6||45||

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਤਾ ਭਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
jaa toon saahib taa bhau kehaa hau tudh bin kis saalaahee |
Since You are my Lord and Master, what is there for me to fear? Other than You, who else should I praise?
ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਮੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
ek toon taa sabh kichh hai mai tudh bin doojaa naahee |1|
You are the One and only, and so do all things exist; without You, there is nothing at all for me. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
baabaa bikh dekhiaa sansaar |
O Father, I have seen that the world is poison.
ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rakhiaa karahu gusaaee mere mai naam teraa aadhaar |1| rahaau |
Save me, O Lord of the Universe! Your Name is my only Support. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਭਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
jaaneh birathaa sabhaa man kee hor kis peh aakh sunaaeeai |
You know completely the condition of my mind; who else could I go to tell of it?
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
vin naavai sabh jag bauraaeaa naam milai sukh paaeeai |2|
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the whole world has gone crazy; obtaining the Naam, it finds peace. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ਜਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
kiaa kaheeai kis aakh sunaaeeai ji kahanaa su prabh jee paas |
What shall I say? Unto whom shall I speak? What I have to say, I say to God.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੩॥
sabh kichh keetaa teraa varatai sadaa sadaa teree aas |3|
Everything which exists was created by You. You are my hope, forever and ever. ||3||
ਜੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਉ ॥
je dehi vaddiaaee taa teree vaddiaaee it ut tujheh dhiaau |
If you bestow greatness, then it is Your greatness; here and hereafter, I meditate on You.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਮੈ ਤਾਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੬॥
naanak ke prabh sadaa sukhadaate mai taan teraa ik naau |4|7|46|
The Lord God of Nanak is forever the Giver of peace; Your Name is my only strength. ||4||7||46||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮੑਾਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਏਹੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਜਨਹਿ ਪੀਓ ॥
amrit naam tumaaraa tthaakur ehu mahaa ras janeh peeo |
Your Name is Ambrosial Nectar, O Lord Master; Your humble servant drinks in this supreme elixir.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਚੂਕੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਬੀਓ ॥੧॥
janam janam chooke bhai bhaare durat binaasio bharam beeo |1|
The fearful load of sins from countless incarnations has vanished; doubt and duality are also dispelled. ||1||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮੈ ਜੀਓ ॥
darasan pekhat mai jeeo |
I live by beholding the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਰੁ ਥੀਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sun kar bachan tumaare satigur man tan meraa tthaar theeo |1| rahaau |
Listening to Your Words, O True Guru, my mind and body are cooled and soothed. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਏਹੁ ਕਾਜੁ ਤੁਮੑ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਓ ॥
tumaree kripaa te bheo saadhasang ehu kaaj tuma aap keeo |
By Your Grace, I have joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; You Yourself have caused this to happen.
ਦਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮੑਰੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਭਈ ਖੀਓ ॥੨॥
dirr kar charan gahe prabh tumare sahaje bikhiaa bhee kheeo |2|
Holding fast to Your Feet, O God, the poison is easily neutralized. ||2||
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਏਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਲੀਓ ॥
sukh nidhaan naam prabh tumaraa ehu abinaasee mantru leeo |
Your Name, O God, is the treasure of peace; I have received this everlasting Mantra.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਤਾਪੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੈਰੁ ਗੀਓ ॥੩॥
kar kirapaa mohi satigur deenaa taap santaap meraa bair geeo |3|
Showing His Mercy, the True Guru has given it to me, and my fever and pain and hatred are annulled. ||3||
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਮਾਣਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਓ ॥
dhan su maanas dehee paaee jit prabh apanai mel leeo |
Blessed is the attainment of this human body, by which God blends Himself with me.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੀਓ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੭॥
dhan su kalijug saadhasang keeratan gaaeeai naanak naam adhaar heeo |4|8|47|
Blessed, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, is the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.O Nanak, the Naam is my only Support. ||4||8||47||
