ਕੰਸ ਦੋਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਨਮਿਤ ਲੀਨੋ ਖੜਗ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ॥

kans dohoon ke badh namit leeno kharrag nikaar |

ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਡਰੇ ਦੋਊ ਨਰ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੪੦॥

baasudev ar devakee ddare doaoo nar naar |40|

Kansa took out his sword in order to kill both of them and seeing this both husband and wife were frightened.40.

ਬਾਸਦੇਵ ਡਰੁ ਮਾਨ ਕੈ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਕਹੀ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥

baasadev ddar maan kai taa so kahee sunaae |

ਜੋ ਯਾ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਤਾਕਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥੪੧॥

jo yaa hee te janam hai maarahu taakahu raae |41|

Absorbed in fear, Vasudev said to Kansa, “Do not kill Devaki, but O king! whosoever will be born to her, you may kill him.”41.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਹੇਤ ਕੇ ਭਾਵ ਸੌ ਮਤਿ ਇਹ ਜਾਇ ਛਪਾਇ ॥

putr het ke bhaav sau mat ih jaae chhapaae |

ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੈ ਦੇਉ ਇਨ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਰਾਇ ॥੪੨॥

bandeekhaanai deo in ihai bichaaree raae |42|

May it not happen that under the impact of her affection for her son, she may hide offspring from me, therefore I feel that they may be imprisoned.42.

ਡਾਰਿ ਜੰਜੀਰ ਲਏ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਨ ਪੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

ddaar janjeer le tin paaein pai fir kai mathuraa meh aayo |

ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਗ ਕਥਾ ਅਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਬੁਰੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਨਿਕਰਾਯੋ ॥

so sun kai sabh log kathaa at naam buro jag mai nikaraayo |

Putting chains in their feet Kansa brought them back to Mathura and when the people came to know about it, they greatly talked ill of Kansa

ਆਨਿ ਰਖੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਪਨ ਮੈ ਰਖਵਾਰੀ ਕੋ ਸੇਵਕ ਲੋਗ ਬੈਠਾਯੋ ॥

aan rakhai grih aapan mai rakhavaaree ko sevak log baitthaayo |

ਆਨਿ ਬਡੇਨ ਕੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਦਈ ਕੁਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਪਨੋ ਰਾਹ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੪੩॥

aan badden kee chhaadd dee kul bheetar aapano raah chalaayo |43|

Kansa dept them imprisoned in his own house and forsaking the traditions of his elders, he engaged servants to keep a watch over them and bound them to submit to his orders, remaining fully under his control.43.

ਕਿਤਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਬੀਤੇ ਜਬੈ ਕੰਸ ਰਾਜ ਉਤਪਾਤ ॥

kitak divas beete jabai kans raaj utapaat |

ਤਬੈ ਕਥਾ ਅਉਰੈ ਚਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਰੇਖ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੪੪॥

tabai kathaa aaurai chalee karam rekh kee baat |44|

Many days passed during the tyrannical rule of Kansa and in this way, according to the line of fate, the story took a new turn.44.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਭਇਓ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਕੈ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਤ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

putr bheo devakee kai keerat mat tih naam |

ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਕੌ ਗਯੋ ਕੰਸ ਕੈ ਧਾਮ ॥੪੫॥

baasudev lai taeh kau gayo kans kai dhaam |45|

The first son named Kiratmat was born to Devaki and Vasudev took him to the house of Kansa.45.

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਖੁ ॥

bed puraan sinmrit meh dekh |

See Him in the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.

ਸਸੀਅਰ ਸੂਰ ਨਖੵਤ੍ਰ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ॥

saseear soor nakhayatr meh ek |

In the moon, the sun and the stars, He is the One.

ਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ॥

baanee prabh kee sabh ko bolai |

The Bani of God's Word is spoken by everyone.

ਆਪਿ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਡੋਲੈ ॥

aap addol na kabahoo ddolai |

He Himself is unwavering - He never wavers.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਖੇਲੈ ਖੇਲ ॥

sarab kalaa kar khelai khel |

With absolute power, He plays His play.

ਮੋਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣਹ ਅਮੋਲ ॥

mol na paaeeai gunah amol |

His value cannot be estimated; His virtues are invaluable.

ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ॥

sarab jot meh jaa kee jot |

In all light, is His Light.

ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ॥

dhaar rahio suaamee ot pot |

The Lord and Master supports the weave of the fabric of the universe.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥

gur parasaad bharam kaa naas |

By Guru's Grace, doubt is dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ॥੩॥

naanak tin meh ehu bisaas |3|

O Nanak, this faith is firmly implanted within. ||3||

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਪੇਖਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥

sant janaa kaa pekhan sabh braham |

In the eye of the Saint, everything is God.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਭਿ ਧਰਮ ॥

sant janaa kai hiradai sabh dharam |

In the heart of the Saint, everything is Dharma.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਸੁਨਹਿ ਸੁਭ ਬਚਨ ॥

sant janaa suneh subh bachan |

The Saint hears words of goodness.

ਸਰਬ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਚਨ ॥

sarab biaapee raam sang rachan |

He is absorbed in the All-pervading Lord.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਰਹਤ ॥

jin jaataa tis kee ih rehat |

This is the way of life of one who knows God.

ਸਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਤ ॥

sat bachan saadhoo sabh kehat |

True are all the words spoken by the Holy.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

jo jo hoe soee sukh maanai |

Whatever happens, he peacefully accepts.

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

karan karaavanahaar prabh jaanai |

He knows God as the Doer, the Cause of causes.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਸੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੀ ਓਹੀ ॥

antar base baahar bhee ohee |

He dwells inside, and outside as well.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ॥੪॥

naanak darasan dekh sabh mohee |4|

O Nanak, beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, all are fascinated. ||4||

ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿ ॥

aap sat keea sabh sat |

He Himself is True, and all that He has made is True.

ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਸਗਲੀ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥

tis prabh te sagalee utapat |

The entire creation came from God.

ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥

tis bhaavai taa kare bisathaar |

As it pleases Him, He creates the expanse.

ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

tis bhaavai taa ekankaar |

As it pleases Him, He becomes the One and Only again.

ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲਾ ਲਖੀ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ॥

anik kalaa lakhee neh jaae |

His powers are so numerous, they cannot be known.

ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

jis bhaavai tis le milaae |

As it pleases Him, He merges us into Himself again.

ਕਵਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਵਨ ਕਹੀਐ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

kavan nikatt kavan kaheeai door |

Who is near, and who is far away?

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

aape aap aap bharapoor |

He Himself is Himself pervading everywhere.

ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਨਾਏ ॥

antaragat jis aap janaae |

One whom God causes to know that He is within the heart

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੫॥

naanak tis jan aap bujhaae |5|

- O Nanak, He causes that person to understand Him. ||5||

ਸਰਬ ਭੂਤ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥

sarab bhoot aap varataaraa |

In all forms, He Himself is pervading.

ਸਰਬ ਨੈਨ ਆਪਿ ਪੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

sarab nain aap pekhanahaaraa |

Through all eyes, He Himself is watching.

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਤਨਾ ॥

sagal samagree jaa kaa tanaa |

All the creation is His Body.

ਆਪਨ ਜਸੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਨਾ ॥

aapan jas aap hee sunaa |

He Himself listens to His Own Praise.

ਆਵਨ ਜਾਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥

aavan jaan ik khel banaaeaa |

The One has created the drama of coming and going.

ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

aagiaakaaree keenee maaeaa |

He made Maya subservient to His Will.

ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਰਹੈ ॥

sabh kai madh alipato rahai |

In the midst of all, He remains unattached.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਹੈ ॥

jo kichh kahanaa su aape kahai |

Whatever is said, He Himself says.

ਆਗਿਆ ਆਵੈ ਆਗਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

aagiaa aavai aagiaa jaae |

By His Will we come, and by His Will we go.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥

naanak jaa bhaavai taa le samaae |6|

O Nanak, when it pleases Him, then He absorbs us into Himself. ||6||

Raag GaureeGuru Guru Arjan

ਇਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੁਰਾ ॥

eis te hoe su naahee buraa |

If it comes from Him, it cannot be bad.

ਓਰੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਕਛੁ ਕਰਾ ॥

orai kahahu kinai kachh karaa |

Other than Him, who can do anything?

ਆਪਿ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕੀ ॥

aap bhalaa karatoot at neekee |

He Himself is good; His actions are the very best.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਜੀ ਕੀ ॥

aape jaanai apane jee kee |

He Himself knows His Own Being.

ਆਪਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਸਾਚੁ ॥

aap saach dhaaree sabh saach |

He Himself is True, and all that He has established is True.

ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਆਪਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੁ ॥

ot pot aapan sang raach |

Through and through, He is blended with His creation.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

taa kee gat mit kahee na jaae |

His state and extent cannot be described.

ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

doosar hoe ta sojhee paae |

If there were another like Him, then only he could understand Him.

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥

tis kaa keea sabh paravaan |

His actions are all approved and accepted.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੭॥

gur prasaad naanak ihu jaan |7|

By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, this is known. ||7||

ਜੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

jo jaanai tis sadaa sukh hoe |

One who knows Him, obtains everlasting peace.

ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

aap milaae le prabh soe |

God blends that one into Himself.

ਓਹੁ ਧਨਵੰਤੁ ਕੁਲਵੰਤੁ ਪਤਿਵੰਤੁ ॥

ohu dhanavant kulavant pativant |

He is wealth and prosperous, and of noble birth.

ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥

jeevan mukat jis ridai bhagavant |

He is Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive; the Lord God abides in his heart.

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

dhan dhan dhan jan aaeaa |

Blessed, blessed, blessed is the coming of that humble being;

ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

jis prasaad sabh jagat taraaeaa |

by his grace, the whole world is saved.

ਜਨ ਆਵਨ ਕਾ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਆਉ ॥

jan aavan kaa ihai suaau |

This is his purpose in life;

ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥

jan kai sang chit aavai naau |

in the Company of this humble servant, the Lord's Name comes to mind.

ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

aap mukat mukat karai sansaar |

He Himself is liberated, and He liberates the universe.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੨੩॥

naanak tis jan kau sadaa namasakaar |8|23|

O Nanak, to that humble servant, I bow in reverence forever. ||8||23||
