O Lord! Thou art Unmanifested Glory and Light of Knowledge!
ਅਛੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਦ੍ਵੈ ਅਨਾਸ ॥
achhai saroop advai anaas |
Thou art Unassailable Entity Non-dual and Indestructible!
ਅਨਤੁਟ ਤੇਜ ਅਨਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
anatutt tej anakhutt bhanddaar |
Thou art indivisible Glory and an Inexhaustible Store!
ਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਸਰਬੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ॥੧॥੧੨੧॥

Thou art ever the Creator and Remover of Meanness!
ਆਸਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਨਭੂਤ ਕਰਮ ॥

Thy Seat is Stable and Thy actions are non-elemental!

Thou art the Beneficent Donor and Thy religious discipline is Beyond the working of elements! 2. 122
ਜਿਹ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਾਤ ॥

Thou art that Ultimate Reality which is without enemy friend birth and caste !
ਜਿਹ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਤ ॥
jih putr bhraat naheen mitr maat |
Which is without son brother friend and mother!
ਜਿਹ ਕਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਰਮ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
jih karam bharam naheen dharam dhiaan |
Which is action less Illusion less and without any consideration of religious disciplines !
ਜਿਹ ਨੇਹ ਗੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਿਓਤ ਬਾਨ ॥੩॥੧੨੩॥

ਜਿਹ ਨੇਹ ਗੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਿਹਨ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ॥

ਜਿਹ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਾਗ ਰੇਖ ॥

Which is without caste line enemy and friend!
ਜਿਹ ਜਨਮ ਜਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਰਮ ਭੇਖ ॥੪॥੧੨੪॥

Which is without is without birth caste illusion and guise! 4. 124
ਜਿਹ ਕਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਪਾਤ ॥

Which is without action delusion caste and lineage!
ਨਹੀ ਨੇਹ ਗੇਹ ਨਹੀ ਪਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਤ ॥

Which is without love home father and mother!
ਜਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਥਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਬਰਗ ਬਿਆਧ ॥

Which is without name place and also without species of maladies!
ਜਿਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧ ॥੫॥੧੨੫॥

Which is without ailment sorrow enemy and a saintly friend! 5. 125
ਜਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਵਾਸ ਨਹੀ ਦੇਹ ਨਾਸ ॥

Which never remains in fear and whose body is Indestructible!
ਜਿਹ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਸ ॥
jih aad ant nahee roop raas |
Which has no beginning no end no form and no outlay!
ਜਿਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥
jih rog sog nahee jog jugat |
Which has no ailment sorrow and no device of Yoga!
ਜਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਆਸ ਨਹੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ॥੬॥੧੨੬॥

Which has no fear no hope and no earthly enjoyment! 6. 126
ਜਿਹ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਆਲ ਕਟਿਓ ਨ ਅੰਗ ॥

Thou art That whose bodily limb hath never been stung by the serpent of death!
ਅਛੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਖੈ ਅਭੰਗ ॥

Who is Unassailable Entity and Who is Indestructible and Imperishable!
ਜਿਹ ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਉਚਰੰਤ ਬੇਦ ॥

Whom the Vedas call ‘Neti Neti’ (Not this not this) and infinite!
ਜਿਹ ਅਲਖ ਰੂਪ ਕਥਤ ਕਤੇਬ ॥੭॥੧੨੭॥

Whom the Semitic Scriptures call Incompre-hensible! 7. 127
ਜਿਹ ਅਲਖ ਰੂਪ ਆਸਨ ਅਡੋਲ ॥

Whose Form is Unknowable and Whose Seat is stable!
ਜਿਹ ਅਮਿਤ ਤੇਜ ਅਛੈ ਅਤੋਲ ॥
jih amit tej achhai atol |
Whose light is unlimited and who is Invincible and Unweighable!
ਜਿਹ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਾਜ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਅਨੰਤ ॥
jih dhiaan kaaj mun jan anant |
For Whose meditation and sight infinite sages !
ਕਈ ਕਲਪ ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧਤ ਦੁਰੰਤ ॥੮॥੧੨੮॥

Perform hard Yoga Practices for many kalpas (ages)! 8. 128
ਤਨ ਸੀਤ ਘਾਮ ਬਰਖਾ ਸਹੰਤ ॥
tan seet ghaam barakhaa sahant |
For Thy realization they endure cold heat and rain on their body!
ਕਈ ਕਲਪ ਏਕ ਆਸਨ ਬਿਤੰਤ ॥
kee kalap ek aasan bitant |
For many ages they remain in the same posture!
ਕਈ ਜਤਨ ਜੋਗ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
kee jatan jog bidiaa bichaar |
They make many efforts and ruminate over the learning of Yoga!
ਸਾਧੰਤ ਤਦਪਿ ਪਾਵਤ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥੯॥੧੨੯॥
saadhant tadap paavat na paar |9|129|
They practice Yoga but still they cannot know Thy end! 9. 129
ਕਈ ਉਰਧ ਬਾਹ ਦੇਸਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤ ॥
kee uradh baah desan bhramant |
Many wander in several countries with raised arms!
ਕਈ ਉਰਧ ਮਧ ਪਾਵਕ ਝੁਲੰਤ ॥
kee uradh madh paavak jhulant |
Many burn their bodies upside down!
ਕਈ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਰੰਤ ਬੇਦ ॥
kee sinmrit saasatr ucharant bed |
Many recite Smritis Shastras and Vedas!
ਕਈ ਕੋਕ ਕਾਬ ਕਥਤ ਕਤੇਬ ॥੧੦॥੧੩੦॥
kee kok kaab kathat kateb |10|130|
Many go through Kok Shastras (pertaining to sex) other poetry books and Semitic Scriptures! 10. 130
ਕਈ ਅਗਨ ਹੋਤ੍ਰ ਕਈ ਪਉਨ ਅਹਾਰ ॥
kee agan hotr kee paun ahaar |
Many perform havan (fire-worship) and many subsist on air!
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਕੋਟ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੋ ਅਹਾਰ ॥
kee karat kott mrit ko ahaar |
Many a million eat clay!
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਕ ਪੈ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਭਛ ॥
kee karat saak pai patr bhachh |
May people eat green leaves!
ਨਹੀ ਤਦਪਿ ਦੇਵ ਹੋਵਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਛ ॥੧੧॥੧੩੧॥
nahee tadap dev hovat pratachh |11|131|
Still the Lord does not manifest Himself to them! 11. 131
ਕਈ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਨ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਰੀਤ ॥
kee geet gaan gandharab reet |
There are many song-tunes and observances of Gandharvas!
ਕਈ ਬੇਦ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ॥
kee bed saasatr bidiaa prateet |
There are many who are absorbed in the learning of Vedas and Shastras!
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤਿ ਜਗ ਆਦਿ ਕਰਮ ॥
kahoon bed reet jag aad karam |
Somewhere Yagyas (sacrifices) are performed according to the Vedic injunctions!
ਕਹੂੰ ਅਗਨ ਹੋਤ੍ਰ ਕਹੂੰ ਤੀਰਥ ਧਰਮ ॥੧੨॥੧੩੨॥

Somewhere havens are performed and somewhere at pilgrim-stations the befitting rituals are being followed! 12. 132
ਕਈ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਭਾਖਾ ਰਟੰਤ ॥

Many speak languages of different countries!
ਕਈ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਪੜ੍ਹੰਤ ॥

Many study the learning of various countries! Many study the learning of various countries
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤਨ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
kee karat bhaant bhaantan bichaar |
Many ruminate over several types of philosophies!
ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਪਾਯਤ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥੧੩॥੧੩੩॥
nahee naik taas paayat na paar |13|133|
Still they cannot comprehend even a little of the Lord! 13. 133
ਕਈ ਤੀਰਥ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਰਮਤ ਸੁ ਭਰਮ ॥
kee teerath teerath bharamat su bharam |
Many wander away on various pilgrim-stations in delusion!
ਕਈ ਅਗਨ ਹੋਤ੍ਰ ਕਈ ਦੇਵ ਕਰਮ ॥
kee agan hotr kee dev karam |
Some perform havens and some perform rituals to please gods!
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
kee karat beer bidiaa bichaar |
Some pay consideration to the learning of warfare!
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਦਪ ਤਾਸ ਪਾਯਤ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥੧੪॥੧੩੪॥

Still they cannot comprehend of the Lord! 14. 134
ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਧਰਮ ॥
kahoon raaj reet kahoon jog dharam |
Somewhere royal discipline is being followed and somewhere the discipline of Yoga!
ਕਈ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਰਤ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ॥
kee sinmrit saasatr ucharat su karam |
Many perform the recitation of Smritis and Shastras!
ਨਿਉਲੀ ਆਦਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਹਸਤ ਦਾਨ ॥
niaulee aad karam kahoon hasat daan |
Somewhere Yogic Karmas including neoli (purgation of intestines) are being practiced and somewhere elephants are being given as gifts!
ਕਹੂੰ ਅਸ੍ਵਮੇਧ ਮਖ ਕੋ ਬਖਾਨ ॥੧੫॥੧੩੫॥
kahoon asvamedh makh ko bakhaan |15|135|
Somewhere the horse sacrifices are being performed and their merits are being related! 15. 135
ਕਹੂੰ ਕਰਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
kahoon karat braham bidiaa bichaar |
Somewhere the Brahmins are holding discussions about Theology!
ਕਹੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਚਾਰ ॥
kahoon jog reet kahoon bridh chaar |
Somewhere the Yogic methods are being practiced and somewhere the four stages of life are being followed!
ਕਹੂੰ ਕਰਤ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਗਾਨ ॥
kahoon karat jachh gandhrab gaan |
Somewhere the Yaksha and Gandharvas sing!
ਕਹੂੰ ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਕਹੂੰ ਅਰਘ ਦਾਨ ॥੧੬॥੧੩੬॥
kahoon dhoop deep kahoon aragh daan |16|136|
Somewhere the offerings of incense earthen lamps and libations are made! 16. 136
ਕਹੂੰ ਪਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ॥
kahoon pitr karam kahoon bed reet |
Somewhere karmas are performed for the manes and somewhere the Vedic injunctions are followed!
ਕਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਚ ਕਹੂੰ ਗਾਨ ਗੀਤ ॥
kahoon nrit naach kahoon gaan geet |
Somewhere the dances are accomplished and somewhere songs are sung!
ਕਹੂੰ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
kahoon karat saasatr sinmrit uchaar |
Somewhere the Shastras and Smritis are recited!
ਕਈ ਭਜਤ ਏਕ ਪਗ ਨਿਰਾਧਾਰ ॥੧੭॥੧੩੭॥
kee bhajat ek pag niraadhaar |17|137|
May pray stading on a single foot! 17. 137
ਕਈ ਨੇਹ ਦੇਹ ਕਈ ਗੇਹ ਵਾਸ ॥
kee neh deh kee geh vaas |
Many are attached to their bodies and many reside in their homes!
ਕਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸਨ ਉਦਾਸ ॥
kee bhramat des desan udaas |
Many wander in various countries as hermits!
ਕਈ ਜਲ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਈ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਾਪ ॥
kee jal nivaas kee agan taap |
Many live in water and many endure the heat of fire!
ਕਈ ਜਪਤ ਉਰਧ ਲਟਕੰਤ ਜਾਪ ॥੧੮॥੧੩੮॥
kee japat uradh lattakant jaap |18|138|
Many worship the Lord with face upside down! 18. 138
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਜੋਗ ਕਲਪੰ ਪ੍ਰਜੰਤ ॥
kee karat jog kalapan prajant |
Many practice Yoga for various kalpas (ages)!
ਨਹੀ ਤਦਪਿ ਤਾਸ ਪਾਯਤ ਨ ਅੰਤ ॥
nahee tadap taas paayat na ant |
Still they cannot know the Lord’s end!
ਕਈ ਕਰਤ ਕੋਟ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
kee karat kott bidiaa bichaar |
Many a million indulge in the study of sciences!
ਨਹੀ ਤਦਪਿ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥੧੯॥੧੩੯॥
nahee tadap disatt dekhai muraar |19|139|
Still they cannot behold the Sight of the Lord! 19. 139
ਬਿਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਰਤ ਪਾਨ ॥
bin bhagat sakat nahee parat paan |
Without the power of devotion they cannot realise the Lord!
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਮ ਅਰ ਜਗ ਦਾਨ ॥
bahu karat hom ar jag daan |
Though they perform havens hold Yagyas (sacrifices) and offer charities!
ਬਿਨ ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਲੀਨ ॥
bin ek naam ik chit leen |
Without the single-minded absorption in he Lord’s Name !
ਫੋਕਟੋ ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮਾ ਬਿਹੀਨ ॥੨੦॥੧੪੦॥
fokatto sarab dharamaa biheen |20|140|
All the religious rituals are useless! 20. 140

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
sukh saagar har naam hai guramukh paaeaa jaae |
The Name of the Lord is the Ocean of Peace; the Gurmukhs obtain it.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
anadin naam dhiaaeeai sahaje naam samaae |
Meditating on the Naam, night and day, they are easily and intuitively absorbed in the Naam.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਰਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥
andar rachai har sach siau rasanaa har gun gaae |1|
Their inner beings are immersed in the True Lord; they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
bhaaee re jag dukheea doojai bhaae |
O Siblings of Destiny, the world is in misery, engrossed in the love of duality.
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur saranaaee sukh laheh anadin naam dhiaae |1| rahaau |
In the Sanctuary of the Guru, peace is found, meditating on the Naam night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
saache mail na laagee man niramal har dhiaae |
The truthful ones are not stained by filth. Meditating on the Lord, their minds remain pure.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
guramukh sabad pachhaaneeai har amrit naam samaae |
The Gurmukhs realize the Word of the Shabad; they are immersed in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur giaan prachandd balaaeaa agiaan andheraa jaae |2|
The Guru has lit the brilliant light of spiritual wisdom, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
manamukh maile mal bhare haumai trisanaa vikaar |
The self-willed manmukhs are polluted. They are filled with the pollution of egotism, wickedness and desire.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
bin sabadai mail na utarai mar jameh hoe khuaar |
Without the Shabad, this pollution is not washed off; through the cycle of death and rebirth, they waste away in misery.
ਧਾਤੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
dhaatur baajee palach rahe naa uravaar na paar |3|
Engrossed in this transitory drama, they are not at home in either this world or the next. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh jap tap sanjamee har kai naam piaar |
For the Gurmukh, the love of the Name of the Lord is chanting, deep meditation and self-discipline.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh sadaa dhiaaeeai ek naam karataar |
The Gurmukh meditates forever on the Name of the One Creator Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੦॥
naanak naam dhiaaeeai sabhanaa jeea kaa aadhaar |4|7|40|
O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Support of all beings. ||4||7||40||

manamukh mohi viaapiaa bairaag udaasee na hoe |
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment; they are not balanced or detached.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
sabad na cheenai sadaa dukh har darageh pat khoe |
They do not comprehend the Word of the Shabad. They suffer in pain forever, and lose their honor in the Court of the Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
haumai guramukh khoeeai naam rate sukh hoe |1|
The Gurmukhs shed their ego; attuned to the Naam, they find peace. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ॥
mere man ahinis poor rahee nit aasaa |
O my mind, day and night, you are always full of wishful hopes.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰਜਲੈ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satagur sev mohu parajalai ghar hee maeh udaasaa |1| rahaau |
Serve the True Guru, and your emotional attachment shall be totally burnt away; remain detached within the home of your heart. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
guramukh karam kamaavai bigasai har bairaag anand |
The Gurmukhs do good deeds and blossom forth; balanced and detached in the Lord, they are in ecstasy.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਚੰਦੁ ॥
ahinis bhagat kare din raatee haumai maar nichand |
Night and day, they perform devotional worship, day and night; subduing their ego, they are carefree.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥੨॥
vaddai bhaag satasangat paaee har paaeaa sehaj anand |2|
By great good fortune, I found the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; I have found the Lord, with intuitive ease and ecstasy. ||2||
ਸੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
so saadhoo bairaagee soee hiradai naam vasaae |
That person is a Holy Saadhu, and a renouncer of the world, whose heart is filled with the Naam.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਮੂਲੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
antar laag na taamas moole vichahu aap gavaae |
His inner being is not touched by anger or dark energies at all; he has lost his selfishness and conceit.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਅਘਾਏ ॥੩॥
naam nidhaan sataguroo dikhaaliaa har ras peea aghaae |3|
The True Guru has revealed to him the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he drinks in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and is satisfied. ||3||
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥
jin kinai paaeaa saadhasangatee poorai bhaag bairaag |
Whoever has found it, has done so in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Through perfect good fortune, such balanced detachment is attained.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥
manamukh fireh na jaaneh satagur haumai andar laag |
The self-willed manmukhs wander around lost, but they do not know the True Guru. They are inwardly attached to egotism.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕੇਹੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੧॥
naanak sabad rate har naam rangaae bin bhai kehee laag |4|8|41|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Shabad are dyed in the Color of the Lord's Name. Without the Fear of God, how can they retain this Color? ||4||8||41||

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸਉਦਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ghar hee saudaa paaeeai antar sabh vath hoe |
Within the home of your own inner being, the merchandise is obtained. All commodities are within.
ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
khin khin naam samaaleeai guramukh paavai koe |
Each and every moment, dwell on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukhs obtain it.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naam nidhaan akhutt hai vaddabhaag paraapat hoe |1|
The Treasure of the Naam is inexhaustible. By great good fortune, it is obtained. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਜਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
mere man taj nindaa haumai ahankaar |
O my mind, give up slander, egotism and arrogance.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jeeo sadaa dhiaae too guramukh ekankaar |1| rahaau |
Become Gurmukh, and meditate forever on the Dear Lord, the One and Only Creator. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
guramukhaa ke mukh ujale gurasabadee beechaar |
The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant and bright; they reflect on the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
halat palat sukh paaeide jap jap ridai muraar |
They obtain peace in this world and the next, chanting and meditating within their hearts on the Lord.
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
ghar hee vich mehal paaeaa gurasabadee veechaar |2|
Within the home of their own inner being, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, reflecting on the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
ਸਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰਹਿ ਮਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਲੇ ॥
satagur te jo muh fereh mathe tin kaale |
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru shall have their faces blackened.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਹੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥
anadin dukh kamaavade nit johe jam jaale |
Night and day, they suffer in pain; they see the noose of Death always hovering above them.
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
supanai sukh na dekhanee bahu chintaa parajaale |3|
Even in their dreams, they find no peace; they are consumed by the fires of intense anxiety. ||3||
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sabhanaa kaa daataa ek hai aape bakhas karee |
The One Lord is the Giver of all; He Himself bestows all blessings.
ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
kahanaa kichhoo na jaavee jis bhaavai tis dee |
No one else has any say in this; He gives just as He pleases.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੨॥
naanak guramukh paaeeai aape jaanai soe |4|9|42|
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs obtain Him; He Himself knows Himself. ||4||9||42||
