“Come after forsaking your persistence and do not confront me, have no fear, come and meet me.”756.

The boys did not agree because they were proud their strength, they caught hold of their bows and roared and did not retrace even two steps.757.

Both the brother were absorbed in war and showering their arrows, they tested the strength of the soldiers.758.

The pools of blood waved with the shower of arrows

Many enemies were killed and many were filled with fear.760.

Feeling ashamed in their mind all ran away and absorbed in fear they went away, saving their lives.763.

The boys were victorious and the warriors were frightened, they being highly infuriated waged the war.765.

Both the brothers who were specialists in swordsmanship, in great fury were engrossed in great war.766.

They pulled their bows and discharged the armour and seeing these warriors absorbed in a terrible war, the clusters of forces fled away.767.

After getting their limbs chopped, the warriors fled away and the remaining ones fought in the war.768.

The army, being confounded, fled away, then Laksman retuned with composure.769.

Lava, stretching his bow, discharge and arrow toward the enemy, which struck Lakshman on the forehead and he fell like a tree.770.

What deliberations are in the hands of mortal beings?

ਜੈਸੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

jaisee drisatt kare taisaa hoe |

As God casts His Glance of Grace, they come to be.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

aape aap aap prabh soe |

God Himself, of Himself, is unto Himself.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੁ ਅਪਨੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

jo kichh keeno su apanai rang |

Whatever He created, was by His Own Pleasure.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ਸਭਹੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

sabh te door sabhahoo kai sang |

He is far from all, and yet with all.

ਬੂਝੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥

boojhai dekhai karai bibek |

He understands, He sees, and He passes judgment.

ਆਪਹਿ ਏਕ ਆਪਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

aapeh ek aapeh anek |

He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the many.

ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

marai na binasai aavai na jaae |

He does not die or perish; He does not come or go.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥

naanak sad hee rahiaa samaae |6|

O Nanak, He remains forever All-pervading. ||6||

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਸਮਝੈ ਆਪਿ ॥

aap upadesai samajhai aap |

He Himself instructs, and He Himself learns.

ਆਪੇ ਰਚਿਆ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥

aape rachiaa sabh kai saath |

He Himself mingles with all.

ਆਪਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਆਪਨ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥

aap keeno aapan bisathaar |

He Himself created His own expanse.

ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥

sabh kachh us kaa ohu karanaihaar |

All things are His; He is the Creator.

ਉਸ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

aus te bhin kahahu kichh hoe |

Without Him, what could be done?

ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

thaan thanantar ekai soe |

In the spaces and interspaces, He is the One.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਲਿਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰ ॥

apune chalit aap karanaihaar |

In His own play, He Himself is the Actor.

ਕਉਤਕ ਕਰੈ ਰੰਗ ਆਪਾਰ ॥

kautak karai rang aapaar |

He produces His plays with infinite variety.

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

man meh aap man apune maeh |

He Himself is in the mind, and the mind is in Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

naanak keemat kehan na jaae |7|

O Nanak, His worth cannot be estimated. ||7||

ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

sat sat sat prabh suaamee |

True, True, True is God, our Lord and Master.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਖਿਆਨੀ ॥

gur parasaad kinai vakhiaanee |

By Guru's Grace, some speak of Him.

ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥

sach sach sach sabh keenaa |

True, True, True is the Creator of all.

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਬਿਰਲੈ ਚੀਨਾ ॥

kott madhe kinai biralai cheenaa |

Out of millions, scarcely anyone knows Him.

ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ॥

bhalaa bhalaa bhalaa teraa roop |

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful is Your Sublime Form.

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨੂਪ ॥

at sundar apaar anoop |

You are Exquisitely Beautiful, Infinite and Incomparable.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

niramal niramal niramal teree baanee |

Pure, Pure, Pure is the Word of Your Bani,

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੁਨੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਬਖੵਾਣੀ ॥

ghatt ghatt sunee sravan bakhayaanee |

heard in each and every heart, spoken to the ears.

ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥

pavitr pavitr pavitr puneet |

Holy, Holy, Holy and Sublimely Pure

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੮॥੧੨॥

naam japai naanak man preet |8|12|

- chant the Naam, O Nanak, with heart-felt love. ||8||12||

One who seeks the Sanctuary of the Saints shall be saved.

ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੧॥

sant kee nindaa naanakaa bahur bahur avataar |1|

One who slanders the Saints, O Nanak, shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਆਰਜਾ ਘਟੈ ॥

Slandering the Saints, one's life is cut short.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟੈ ॥

sant kai dookhan jam te nahee chhuttai |

Slandering the Saints, one shall not escape the Messenger of Death.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan sukh sabh jaae |

Slandering the Saints, all happiness vanishes.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan narak meh paae |

Slandering the Saints, one falls into hell.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਮਲੀਨ ॥

sant kai dookhan mat hoe maleen |

Slandering the Saints, the intellect is polluted.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਤੇ ਹੀਨ ॥

sant kai dookhan sobhaa te heen |

Slandering the Saints, one's reputation is lost.

ਸੰਤ ਕੇ ਹਤੇ ਕਉ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

sant ke hate kau rakhai na koe |

One who is cursed by a Saint cannot be saved.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਥਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਸਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan thaan bhrasatt hoe |

Slandering the Saints, one's place is defiled.

ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੈ ॥

sant kripaal kripaa je karai |

But if the Compassionate Saint shows His Kindness,

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਭੀ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥

naanak santasang nindak bhee tarai |1|

O Nanak, in the Company of the Saints, the slanderer may still be saved. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਕੇ ਦੂਖਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਖੁ ਭਵੈ ॥

sant ke dookhan te mukh bhavai |

Slandering the Saints, one becomes a wry-faced malcontent.

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਕਾਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਵੈ ॥

santan kai dookhan kaag jiau lavai |

Slandering the Saints, one croaks like a raven.

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸਰਪ ਜੋਨਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

santan kai dookhan sarap jon paae |

Slandering the Saints, one is reincarnated as a snake.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਿਰਮਾਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan trigad jon kiramaae |

Slandering the Saints, one is reincarnated as a wiggling worm.

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਲੈ ॥

santan kai dookhan trisanaa meh jalai |

Slandering the Saints, one burns in the fire of desire.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਛਲੈ ॥

sant kai dookhan sabh ko chhalai |

Slandering the Saints, one tries to deceive everyone.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤੇਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan tej sabh jaae |

Slandering the Saints, all one's influence vanishes.

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਨੀਚਾਇ ॥

sant kai dookhan neech neechaae |

Slandering the Saints, one becomes the lowest of the low.

ਸੰਤ ਦੋਖੀ ਕਾ ਥਾਉ ਕੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

sant dokhee kaa thaau ko naeh |

For the slanderer of the Saint, there is no place of rest.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਓਇ ਭੀ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

naanak sant bhaavai taa oe bhee gat paeh |2|

O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, even then, he may be saved. ||2||
