Now begins the description of the war with the demon Atkaaye :

ਕਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਦਈਤ ਰਾਜ ॥

kaagarradang kop kai deet raaj |

ਜਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਸਜਯੋ ਸਾਜ ॥

jaagarradang judh ko sajayo saaj |

The demon-king in great fury, began the war,

ਬਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਬੀਰ ਬੁਲੇ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

baagarradang beer bule anant |

ਰਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਰੋਸ ਰੋਹੇ ਦੁਰੰਤ ॥੪੮੩॥

raagarradang ros rohe durant |483|

Calling his innumerable warriors, full of resentment and very wrathful.483.

ਪਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਪਰਮ ਬਾਜੀ ਬੁਲੰਤ ॥

paagarradang param baajee bulant |

ਚਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਚਤ੍ਰ ਨਟ ਜਯੋਂ ਕੁਦੰਤ ॥

chaagarradang chatr natt jayon kudant |

Very swift-moving horses were brought who jumped hither and thither like and actor

ਕਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਕਢੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ॥

kaagarradang kraoor kadte hathiaar |

ਆਗੜਦੰਗ ਆਨ ਬਜੇ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥੪੮੪॥

aagarradang aan baje jujhaar |484|

Taking out their frightening weapons, the warriors began to fight with one another.484.

ਰਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਰਾਮ ਸੈਨਾ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ॥

raagarradang raam sainaa su krudh |

ਜਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਜ੍ਵਾਨ ਜੁਝੰਤ ਜੁਧ ॥

jaagarradang jvaan jujhant judh |

On this side, the warriors in the army of Ram, started fighting in great rage

ਨਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਨਿਸਾਣ ਨਵ ਸੈਨ ਸਾਜ ॥

naagarradang nisaan nav sain saaj |

ਮਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਮੂੜ ਮਕਰਾਛ ਗਾਜ ॥੪੮੫॥

maagarradang moorr makaraachh gaaj |485|

The foolish Makrachh thundered, carrying his new banner.485.

ਆਗੜਦੰਗ ਏਕ ਅਤਕਾਇ ਵੀਰ ॥

aagarradang ek atakaae veer |

ਰਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਰੋਸ ਕੀਨੇ ਗਹੀਰ ॥

There was one demon named Atkaaye in the demon forces who rushed with serious fury

ਆਗੜਦੰਗ ਏਕ ਹੁਕੇ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

aagarradang ek huke anek |

ਸਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਸਿੰਧ ਬੇਲਾ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੪੮੬॥

saagarradang sindh belaa bibek |486|

Many warriors confronted him and began to fight with discriminating intellect.486.

ਤਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਤੀਰ ਛੁਟੈ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

taagarradang teer chhuttai apaar |

ਬਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਬੂੰਦ ਬਨ ਦਲ ਅਨੁਚਾਰ ॥

baagarradang boond ban dal anuchaar |

There was huge shower of arrows which fell like rain-drops

ਆਗੜਦੰਗ ਅਰਬ ਟੀਡੀ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥

aagarradang arab tteeddee pramaan |

ਚਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਚਾਰ ਚੀਟੀ ਸਮਾਨ ॥੪੮੭॥

chaagarradang chaar cheettee samaan |487|

The army looked like locusts and array of ants.487.

ਬਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਹੁੜੇ ਨੇਖ ॥

baagarradang beer baahurre nekh |

ਜਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਜੁਧ ਅਤਕਾਇ ਦੇਖ ॥

jaagarradang judh atakaae dekh |

The warriors reached near Atkaaye in order to see him fighting.

ਦਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਦੇਵ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਹੰਤ ॥

daagarradang dev jai jai kahant |

ਭਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਭੂਪ ਧਨ ਧਨ ਭਨੰਤ ॥੪੮੮॥

bhaagarradang bhoop dhan dhan bhanant |488|

The gods hailed him and the king uttered “Bravo, Bravo!”.488.

ਕਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਕਹਕ ਕਾਲੀ ਕਰਾਲ ॥

kaagarradang kehak kaalee karaal |

ਜਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਜੂਹ ਜੁਗਣ ਬਿਸਾਲ ॥

jaagarradang jooh jugan bisaal |

The terrible goddess Kali began to shout and great number of Yoginis roamed in the battlefield.

ਭਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਭੂਤ ਭੈਰੋ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

bhaagarradang bhoot bhairo anant |

ਸਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਕਰੰਤ ॥੪੮੯॥

saagarradang sron paanan karant |489|

Innumerable Bhairvas and ghosts began to drink blood.489.

ਡਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਡਉਰ ਡਾਕਣ ਡਹਕ ॥

ddaagarradang ddaur ddaakan ddehak |

ਕਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਕਾਕੰ ਕਹਕ ॥

kaagarradang kraoor kaakan kehak |

The tabors of vampires sounded and the inauspicious crows began to caw

ਚਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਚਤ੍ਰ ਚਾਵਡੀ ਚਿਕਾਰ ॥

chaagarradang chatr chaavaddee chikaar |

ਭਾਗੜਦੰਗ ਭੂਤ ਡਾਰਤ ਧਮਾਰ ॥੪੯੦॥

bhaagarradang bhoot ddaarat dhamaar |490|

On all the four sides there were heard and seen shrieks of vultures and leapings and hopping of ghosts and fiends.490.

guradev maataa guradev pitaa guradev suaamee paramesuraa |

The Divine Guru is my mother, the Divine Guru is my father; the Divine Guru is my Transcendent Lord and Master.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਖਾ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਬੰਧਿਪ ਸਹੋਦਰਾ ॥

guradev sakhaa agiaan bhanjan guradev bandhip sahodaraa |

The Divine Guru is my companion, the Destroyer of ignorance; the Divine Guru is my relative and brother.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੰਤੁ ਨਿਰੋਧਰਾ ॥

guradev daataa har naam upadesai guradev mant nirodharaa |

The Divine Guru is the Giver, the Teacher of the Lord's Name. The Divine Guru is the Mantra which never fails.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸ ਪਰਾ ॥

guradev saant sat budh moorat guradev paaras paras paraa |

The Divine Guru is the Image of peace, truth and wisdom. The Divine Guru is the Philosopher's Stone - touching it, one is transformed.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਜਨੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ॥

guradev teerath amrit sarovar gur giaan majan aparanparaa |

The Divine Guru is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage, and the pool of divine ambrosia; bathing in the Guru's wisdom, one experiences the Infinite.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਹਰਤਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ ਕਰਾ ॥

guradev karataa sabh paap harataa guradev patit pavit karaa |

The Divine Guru is the Creator, and the Destroyer of all sins; the Divine Guru is the Purifier of sinners.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਉਧਰਾ ॥

guradev aad jugaad jug jug guradev mant har jap udharaa |

The Divine Guru existed at the primal beginning, throughout the ages, in each and every age. The Divine Guru is the Mantra of the Lord's Name; chanting it, one is saved.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਪਾਪੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਤਰਾ ॥

guradev sangat prabh mel kar kirapaa ham moorr paapee jit lag taraa |

O God, please be merciful to me, that I may be with the Divine Guru; I am a foolish sinner, but holding onto Him, I am carried across.

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਮਸਕਰਾ ॥੧॥

guradev satigur paarabraham paramesar guradev naanak har namasakaraa |1|

The Divine Guru is the True Guru, the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord; Nanak bows in humble reverence to the Lord, the Divine Guru. ||1||

ਆਪਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਆਪਹਿ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

aapeh keea karaaeaa aapeh karanai jog |

He Himself acts, and causes others to act; He Himself can do everything.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਆ ਨ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

naanak eko rav rahiaa doosar hoaa na hog |1|

O Nanak, the One Lord is pervading everywhere; there has never been any other, and there never shall be. ||1||

Pauree:

ਓਅੰ ਸਾਧ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ॥

oan saadh satigur namasakaaran |

ONG: I humbly bow in reverence to the One Universal Creator, to the Holy True Guru.

ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੰ ॥

aad madh ant nirankaaran |

In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is the Formless Lord.

ਆਪਹਿ ਸੁੰਨ ਆਪਹਿ ਸੁਖ ਆਸਨ ॥

aapeh sun aapeh sukh aasan |

He Himself is in the absolute state of primal meditation; He Himself is in the seat of peace.

ਆਪਹਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਸਨ ॥

aapeh sunat aap hee jaasan |

He Himself listens to His Own Praises.

ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਉਪਾਇਓ ॥

aapan aap aapeh upaaeo |

He Himself created Himself.

ਆਪਹਿ ਬਾਪ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਓ ॥

aapeh baap aap hee maaeo |

He is His Own Father, He is His Own Mother.

ਆਪਹਿ ਸੂਖਮ ਆਪਹਿ ਅਸਥੂਲਾ ॥

aapeh sookham aapeh asathoolaa |

He Himself is subtle and etheric; He Himself is manifest and obvious.

ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਲਾ ॥੧॥

lakhee na jaaee naanak leelaa |1|

O Nanak, His wondrous play cannot be understood. ||1||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

kar kirapaa prabh deen deaalaa |

O God, Merciful to the meek, please be kind to me,

ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tere santan kee man hoe ravaalaa | rahaau |

that my mind might become the dust of the feet of Your Saints. ||Pause||

Salok:

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਆਕਾਰ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਏਕ ॥

nirankaar aakaar aap niragun saragun ek |

He Himself is formless, and also formed; the One Lord is without attributes, and also with attributes.

ਏਕਹਿ ਏਕ ਬਖਾਨਨੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥

ekeh ek bakhaanano naanak ek anek |1|

Describe the One Lord as One, and Only One; O Nanak, He is the One, and the many. ||1||

ਓਅੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਓ ਅਕਾਰਾ ॥

oan guramukh keeo akaaraa |

ONG: The One Universal Creator created the Creation through the Word of the Primal Guru.

ਏਕਹਿ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

ekeh soot parovanahaaraa |

He strung it upon His one thread.

ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੰ ॥

bhin bhin trai gun bisathaaran |

He created the diverse expanse of the three qualities.

ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੇ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰੰ ॥

niragun te saragun drisattaaran |

From formless, He appeared as form.

ਸਗਲ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਪਾਇਓ ॥

sagal bhaat kar kareh upaaeo |

The Creator has created the creation of all sorts.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਮਨ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਢਾਇਓ ॥

janam maran man mohu badtaaeo |

The attachment of the mind has led to birth and death.

ਦੁਹੂ ਭਾਤਿ ਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥

duhoo bhaat te aap niraaraa |

He Himself is above both, untouched and unaffected.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

naanak ant na paaraavaaraa |2|

O Nanak, He has no end or limitation. ||2||

Salok:

ਸੇਈ ਸਾਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

seee saah bhagavant se sach sanpai har raas |

Those who gather Truth, and the riches of the Lord's Name, are rich and very fortunate.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਚਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

naanak sach such paaeeai tih santan kai paas |1|

O Nanak, truthfulness and purity are obtained from Saints such as these. ||1||

Pauree:

ਸਸਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸੋਊ ॥

sasaa sat sat sat soaoo |

SASSA: True, True, True is that Lord.

ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥

sat purakh te bhin na koaoo |

No one is separate from the True Primal Lord.

ਸੋਊ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੈ ਜਿਹ ਪਾਯੰ ॥

soaoo saran parai jih paayan |

They alone enter the Lord's Sanctuary, whom the Lord inspires to enter.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਸੁਨਾਯੰ ॥

simar simar gun gaae sunaayan |

Meditating, meditating in remembrance, they sing and preach the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਸੰਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ॥

sansai bharam nahee kachh biaapat |

Doubt and skepticism do not affect them at all.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਜਾਪਤ ॥

pragatt prataap taahoo ko jaapat |

They behold the manifest glory of the Lord.

ਸੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਇਹ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

so saadhoo ih pahuchanahaaraa |

They are the Holy Saints - they reach this destination.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

naanak taa kai sad balihaaraa |3|

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||3||

Salok:

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਪੁਕਾਰਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸਭ ਕੂਰ ॥

dhan dhan kahaa pukaarate maaeaa moh sabh koor |

Why are you crying out for riches and wealth? All this emotional attachment to Maya is false.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹੋਤ ਜਾਤ ਸਭੁ ਧੂਰ ॥੧॥

naam bihoone naanakaa hot jaat sabh dhoor |1|

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, all are reduced to dust. ||1||
