Now begins the description of the war with Prahasta :

ਸੰਗੀਤ ਛਪੈ ਛੰਦ ॥

ਪਾਗੜਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਹਸਤ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਦਾਗੜਦੀ ਦੈਕੈ ਦਲ ਅਨਗਨ ॥

paagarradee prahasat patthiyo daagarradee daikai dal anagan |

ਕਾਗੜਦੀ ਕੰਪ ਭੂਅ ਉਠੀ ਬਾਗੜਦੀ ਬਾਜੀਯ ਖੁਰੀਅਨ ਤਨ ॥

kaagarradee kanp bhooa utthee baagarradee baajeey khureean tan |

Then Ravana sent innumerable soldiers with Prahasta for waging the war and the earth trembled under the impact of horses hoofs.

ਨਾਗੜਦੀ ਨੀਲ ਤਿਹ ਝਿਣਯੋ ਭਾਗੜਦੀ ਗਹਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਛਾੜੀਅ ॥

naagarradee neel tih jhinayo bhaagarradee geh bhoom pachhaarreea |

ਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸਮਰ ਹਹਕਾਰ ਦਾਗੜਦੀ ਦਾਨਵ ਦਲ ਭਾਰੀਅ ॥

saagarradee samar hahakaar daagarradee daanav dal bhaareea |

Neel entangled himself with him and threw him on the ground and there was great lamentation in the demon forces.

ਘੰਘਾਗੜਦੀ ਘਾਇ ਭਕਭਕ ਕਰਤ ਰਾਗੜਦੀ ਰੁਹਿਰ ਰਣ ਰੰਗ ਬਹਿ ॥

ghanghaagarradee ghaae bhakabhak karat raagarradee ruhir ran rang beh |

ਜੰਜਾਗੜਦੀ ਜੁਯਹ ਜੁਗਣ ਜਪੈ ਕਾਗੜਦੀ ਕਾਕ ਕਰ ਕਰਕਕਹ ॥੩੯੪॥

janjaagarradee juyah jugan japai kaagarradee kaak kar karakakah |394|

The wounds were inflicted from which the blood oozed out and flowed. The gatherings of Yoginis began to recite (their mantras) and the cawing of the crows was heard.394.

ਫਾਗੜਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਹਸਤ ਜੁਝੰਤ ਲਾਗੜਦੀ ਲੈ ਚਲਯੋ ਅਪ ਦਲ ॥

ਭਾਗੜਦੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਭੜਹੜੀ ਕਾਗੜਦੀ ਕੰਪੀ ਦੋਈ ਜਲ ਥਲ ॥

bhaagarradee bhoom bharraharree kaagarradee kanpee doee jal thal |

Fighting very bravely alongwith his forces, Prahasta advance forward and with his movement the earth and the water felt a sensation

ਨਾਗੜਦੀ ਨਾਦ ਨਿਹ ਨਦ ਭਾਗੜਦੀ ਰਣ ਭੇਰਿ ਭਯੰਕਰ ॥

naagarradee naad nih nad bhaagarradee ran bher bhayankar |

There was dreadful sound and the dreadful resonance of drums was heard

ਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸਾਗ ਝਲਹਲਤ ਚਾਗੜਦੀ ਚਮਕੰਤ ਚਲਤ ਸਰ ॥

saagarradee saag jhalahalat chaagarradee chamakant chalat sar |

The lances glittered and the shining arrows were discharged

ਖੰਖਾਗੜਦੀ ਖੇਤਿ ਖੜਗ ਖਿਮਕਤ ਖਹਤ ਚਾਗੜਦੀ ਚਟਕ ਚਿਨਗੈਂ ਕਢੈ ॥

khankhaagarradee khet kharrag khimakat khehat chaagarradee chattak chinagain kadtai |

There was rattling of spears and with their blows on the shields the sparks arose

ਠੰਠਾਗੜਦੀ ਠਾਟ ਠਟ ਕਰ ਮਨੋ ਠਾਗੜਦੀ ਠਣਕ ਠਠਿਅਰ ਗਢੈ ॥੩੯੫॥

tthantthaagarradee tthaatt tthatt kar mano tthaagarradee tthanak tthatthiar gadtai |395|

Such a knocking sound was heard the sparks arose such a knocking sound was heard as though a tinker was fashioning a utensil.395.

ਢਾਗੜਦੀ ਢਾਲ ਉਛਲਹਿ ਬਾਗੜਦੀ ਰਣ ਬੀਰ ਬਬਕਹਿ ॥

dtaagarradee dtaal uchhaleh baagarradee ran beer babakeh |

The shields sprang up and the warriors began to shout at each other with one tone

ਆਗੜਦੀ ਇਕ ਲੈ ਚਲੈਂ ਇਕ ਕਹੁ ਇਕ ਉਚਕਹਿ ॥

aagarradee ik lai chalain ik kahu ik uchakeh |

The weapons were struck and they rose high and then fell down.

ਤਾਗੜਦੀ ਤਾਲ ਤੰਬੂਰੰ ਬਾਗੜਦੀ ਰਣ ਬੀਨ ਸੁ ਬਜੈ ॥

taagarradee taal tanbooran baagarradee ran been su bajai |

It appeared that the stringed musical instruments and lyers were played in one tune

ਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸੰਖ ਕੇ ਸਬਦ ਗਾਗੜਦੀ ਗੈਵਰ ਗਲ ਗਜੈ ॥

saagarradee sankh ke sabad gaagarradee gaivar gal gajai |

The sound of the conches thundered all around

ਧੰਧਾਗੜਦੀ ਧਰਣਿ ਧੜ ਧੁਕਿ ਪਰਤ ਚਾਗੜਦੀ ਚਕਤ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਅਮਰ ॥

dhandhaagarradee dharan dharr dhuk parat chaagarradee chakat chit meh amar |

ਪੰਪਾਗੜਦੀ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰਤ ਜਾਗੜਦੀ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਬਰ ॥੩੯੬॥

panpaagarradee puhap barakhaa karat jaagarradee jachh gandhrab bar |396|

The heart of he beat and seeing the dreadfulness of war the gods also wondered and the Yakshas, Gandharvas etc. began to shower flowers.396.

ਝਾਗੜਦੀ ਝੁਝ ਭਟ ਗਿਰੈਂ ਮਾਗੜਦੀ ਮੁਖ ਮਾਰ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥

jhaagarradee jhujh bhatt girain maagarradee mukh maar uchaarai |

The warriors even falling down began to shout “Kill, Kill” from their mouths

ਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸੰਜ ਪੰਜਰੇ ਘਾਗੜਦੀ ਘਣੀਅਰ ਜਣੁ ਕਾਰੈ ॥

saagarradee sanj panjare ghaagarradee ghaneear jan kaarai |

Wearing their gauzy armours they appeared like the waving dark clouds

ਤਾਗੜਦੀ ਤੀਰ ਬਰਖੰਤ ਗਾਗੜਦੀ ਗਹਿ ਗਦਾ ਗਰਿਸਟੰ ॥

taagarradee teer barakhant gaagarradee geh gadaa garisattan |

ਮਾਗੜਦੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੁਖ ਜਪੈ ਆਗੜਦੀ ਅਛਰ ਬਰ ਇਸਟੰ ॥

maagarradee mantr mukh japai aagarradee achhar bar isattan |

There was shower of maces and arrows and the heavenly damsels began to recite mantras in order to wed their dear warriors.

ਸੰਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਵ ਸਿਮਰ ਕਰ ਜਾਗੜਦੀ ਜੂਝ ਜੋਧਾ ਮਰਤ ॥

sansaagarradee sadaa siv simar kar jaagarradee joojh jodhaa marat |

ਸੰਸਾਗੜਦੀ ਸੁਭਟ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਗਿਰਤ ਆਗੜਦੀ ਅਪਛਰਨ ਕਹ ਬਰਤ ॥੩੯੭॥

sansaagarradee subhatt sanamukh girat aagarradee apachharan keh barat |397|

The heroes remembered Shiva and died while fighting and on their falling down the heavenly damsels advanced to wed them.397.

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਇਤੈ ਉਚਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਲੰਕੇਸ ਬੈਣੰ ॥

eitai uchare raam lankes bainan |

ਉਤੈ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਖੈ ਚੜੈ ਰਥ ਗੈਣੰ ॥

autai dev dekhai charrai rath gainan |

On this side there is dialogue between Ram and Ravana and on the other side the gods mounted on their chariots in the sky are looking at this scene.

ਕਹੋ ਏਕ ਏਕੰ ਅਨੇਕੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ ॥

kaho ek ekan anekan prakaaran |

ਮਿਲੇ ਜੁਧ ਜੇਤੇ ਸਮੰਤੰ ਲੁਝਾਰੰ ॥੩੯੮॥

mile judh jete samantan lujhaaran |398|

All those warriors who are fighting in the battlefield, they can be described one by one in various ways.398.

ਬਭੀਛਣ ਬਾਚ ਰਾਮ ਸੋ ॥

babheechhan baach raam so |

Speech of Vibhishana addressed to Ram :

ਧੁੰਨੰ ਮੰਡਲਾਕਾਰ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥

dhunan manddalaakaar jaa ko biraajai |

ਸਿਰੰ ਜੈਤ ਪਤ੍ਰੰ ਸਿਤੰ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਛਾਜੈ ॥

siran jait patran sitan chhatr chhaajai |

He, who has the spherical bow and on whose head the white canopy is rotating like a letter of victory

ਰਥੰ ਬਿਸਟਤੰ ਬਯਾਘ੍ਰ ਚਰਮੰ ਅਭੀਤੰ ॥

rathan bisattatan bayaaghr charaman abheetan |

ਤਿਸੈ ਨਾਥ ਜਾਨੋ ਹਠੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੀਤੰ ॥੩੯੯॥

tisai naath jaano hatthee indr jeetan |399|

And who is sitting on the lion-skin fearlessly in the chariot, O Lord, he is the persistent Inderjit (Meghand).399.

ਨਹੈ ਪਿੰਗ ਬਾਜੀ ਰਥੰ ਜੇਨ ਸੋਭੈਂ ॥

nahai ping baajee rathan jen sobhain |

ਮਹਾ ਕਾਇ ਪੇਖੇ ਸਭੈ ਦੇਵ ਛੋਭੈਂ ॥

mahaa kaae pekhe sabhai dev chhobhain |

He, with whose chariot there are brown horses and seeing whose broad body even the gods become fearful

ਹਰੇ ਸਰਬ ਗਰਬੰ ਧਨੰ ਪਾਲ ਦੇਵੰ ॥

hare sarab garaban dhanan paal devan |

ਮਹਾਕਾਇ ਨਾਮਾ ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਜੇਵੰ ॥੪੦੦॥

mahaakaae naamaa mahaabeer jevan |400|

And who has mashed the pride of all the gods, he is known as broad-bodies Kumbhkaran.400.

ਲਗੇ ਮਯੂਰ ਬਰਣੰ ਰਥੰ ਜੇਨ ਬਾਜੀ ॥

lage mayoor baranan rathan jen baajee |

ਬਕੈ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰੰ ਤਜੈ ਬਾਣ ਰਾਜੀ ॥

bakai maar maaran tajai baan raajee |

The chariot with which the peacock-coloured horses are harnessed and who is showering arrows alongwith his shouts of “Kill, Kill”,

ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਕਰ ਮਹੋਦਰ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥

mahaa judh ko kar mahodar bakhaano |

ਤਿਸੈ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਤਾ ਬਡੋ ਰਾਮ ਜਾਨੋ ॥੪੦੧॥

tisai judh karataa baddo raam jaano |401|

O Ram! his name is Mahodar and should be considered a very great warrior.401.

ਲਗੇ ਮੁਖਕੰ ਬਰਣ ਬਾਜੀ ਰਥੇਸੰ ॥

lage mukhakan baran baajee rathesan |

ਹਸੈ ਪਉਨ ਕੇ ਗਉਨ ਕੋ ਚਾਰ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

hasai paun ke gaun ko chaar desan |

The chariot with which the white horses like the face are harnessed, and who, in gait, put the wind to shame

ਧਰੇ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਕਿਧੋ ਕਾਲ ਰੂਪੰ ॥

dhare baan paanan kidho kaal roopan |

ਤਿਸੈ ਰਾਮ ਜਾਨੋ ਸਹੀ ਦਈਤ ਭੂਪੰ ॥੪੦੨॥

tisai raam jaano sahee deet bhoopan |402|

And who seems like death (KAL), catching hold of his arrows in his hand, O Ram! consider him as Ravana, the king of demons.402.

ਫਿਰੈ ਮੋਰ ਪੁਛੰ ਢੁਰੈ ਚਉਰ ਚਾਰੰ ॥

firai mor puchhan dturai chaur chaaran |

ਰੜੈ ਕਿਤ ਬੰਦੀ ਅਨੰਤੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥

rarrai kit bandee anantan apaaran |

He, on whom the fly-whisk of the feathers of a peacock is being waved and before whom many people many people are standing in the posture of salutation

ਰਥੰ ਸੁਵਰਣ ਕੀ ਕਿੰਕਣੀ ਚਾਰ ਸੋਹੈ ॥

rathan suvaran kee kinkanee chaar sohai |

ਲਖੇ ਦੇਵ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਮਹਾ ਤੇਜ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੪੦੩॥

lakhe dev kaniaa mahaa tej mohai |403|

He whose chariot the small bells of gold seem impressive and seeing whom the daughter of gods are getting enamoured.403.

ਛਕੈ ਮਧ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੁਜਾ ਸਾਰਦੂਲੰ ॥

chhakai madh jaa kee dhujaa saaradoolan |

ਇਹੈ ਦਈਤ ਰਾਜੰ ਦੁਰੰ ਦ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੂਲੰ ॥

eihai deet raajan duran droh moolan |

In the centre of whose banner there is the sign of a lion, he is Ravana, the king of demons and has ill-will for Ram in his mind

ਲਸੈ ਕ੍ਰੀਟ ਸੀਸੰ ਕਸੈ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਭਾ ਕੋ ॥

lasai kreett seesan kasai chandr bhaa ko |

ਰਮਾ ਨਾਥ ਚੀਨੋ ਦਸੰ ਗ੍ਰੀਵ ਤਾ ਕੋ ॥੪੦੪॥

ramaa naath cheeno dasan greev taa ko |404|

He on whose crown there are the moon and the sun, O all-filling Lord! Recognise him, is the ten-headed Ravana.404.

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਬਜੇ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥

duhoon or baje bajantran apaaran |

ਮਚੇ ਸੂਰਬੀਰੰ ਮਹਾ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੰ ॥

mache soorabeeran mahaa sasatr dhaaran |

Many instruments began to resound form both sides and the warriors began to shower the current of great weapons.

ਕਰੈ ਅਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਤੰ ਨਿਪਾਤੰਤ ਸੂਰੰ ॥

karai atr paatan nipaatant sooran |

ਉਠੇ ਮਧ ਜੁਧੰ ਕਮਧੰ ਕਰੂਰੰ ॥੪੦੫॥

autthe madh judhan kamadhan karooran |405|

The arms were struck and the warriors fell and in this war the terrible headless trunks arose and moved.405

ਗਿਰੈ ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡੰ ਭਸੁੰਡੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥

girai rundd munddan bhasunddan apaaran |

ਰੁਲੇ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ਸਮੰਤੰ ਲੁਝਾਰੰ ॥

rule ang bhangan samantan lujhaaran |

The trunks, the heads and the trunks of elephants began to fall, and the chopped limas of the groups of warriors rolled in dust

ਪਰੀ ਕੂਹ ਜੂਹੰ ਉਠੇ ਗਦ ਸਦੰ ॥

paree kooh joohan utthe gad sadan |

ਜਕੇ ਸੂਰਬੀਰੰ ਛਕੇ ਜਾਣ ਮਦੰ ॥੪੦੬॥

jake soorabeeran chhake jaan madan |406|

There were terrible and shouts in the battlefield and it appeared tehat having been intoxicated the warriors were swinging.406.

ਗਿਰੇ ਝੂਮ ਭੂਮੰ ਅਘੂਮੇਤਿ ਘਾਯੰ ॥

gire jhoom bhooman aghoomet ghaayan |

ਉਠੇ ਗਦ ਸਦੰ ਚੜੇ ਚਉਪ ਚਾਯੰ ॥

autthe gad sadan charre chaup chaayan |

The wounded groups of warriors are swinging and being bewildered on falling on the earth and with double zeal they are getting up and striking with their maces.

ਜੁਝੈ ਬੀਰ ਏਕੰ ਅਨੇਕੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ ॥

jujhai beer ekan anekan prakaaran |

ਕਟੇ ਅੰਗ ਜੰਗੰ ਰਟੈਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰੰ ॥੪੦੭॥

katte ang jangan rattain maar maaran |407|

The warriors have begun the war in many way, the chopped limbs are falling, even then the warriors are shouting “Kill, Kill”.407.

ਛੁਟੈ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਉਠੈਂ ਗਦ ਸਦੰ ॥

chhuttai baan paanan utthain gad sadan |

ਰੁਲੇ ਝੂਮ ਭੂਮੰ ਸੁ ਬੀਰੰ ਬਿਹਦੰ ॥

rule jhoom bhooman su beeran bihadan |

A dreadful sound is created with the discharge of arrows and the large-bodies warriors’ fall on the ground while swinging

ਨਚੇ ਜੰਗ ਰੰਗੰ ਤਤਥਈ ਤਤਥਿਯੰ ॥

nache jang rangan tatathee tatathiyan |

ਛੁਟੈ ਬਾਨ ਰਾਜੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਛੂਛ ਹਥਿਯੰ ॥੪੦੮॥

chhuttai baan raajee firai chhoochh hathiyan |408|

All are dancing to the tune of music in the fighting and many are roaming hither and thither, becoming empty-handed with the discharge of arrows.408.

ਗਿਰੇ ਅੰਕੁਸੰ ਬਾਰਣੰ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤੰ ॥

gire ankusan baaranan beer khetan |

ਨਚੇ ਕੰਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਕਬੰਧੰ ਅਚੇਤੰ ॥

nache kandh heenan kabandhan achetan |

The lances destroying the warriors are falling down and the unconscious headless trunks are dancing in the battlefield

ਭਰੈਂ ਖੇਚਰੀ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਚਉਸਠ ਚਾਰੀ ॥

bharain khecharee patr chausatth chaaree |

ਚਲੇ ਸਰਬ ਆਨੰਦਿ ਹੁਐ ਮਾਸਹਾਰੀ ॥੪੦੯॥

chale sarab aanand huai maasahaaree |409|

The sixty-eight Yoginis have filled their bowls with blood and all the flesh-eaters are roaming with great joy 409.

ਗਿਰੇ ਬੰਕੁੜੇ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੁਦੇਸੰ ॥

gire bankurre beer baajee sudesan |

ਪਰੇ ਪੀਲਵਾਨੰ ਛੁਟੇ ਚਾਰ ਕੇਸੰ ॥

pare peelavaanan chhutte chaar kesan |

The foppish warriors and beautiful horses are falling and on the other side the drivers of elephants are lying down with their disheveled hair.

ਕਰੈ ਪੈਜ ਵਾਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰੰਤ ਬੀਰੰ ॥

karai paij vaaran prachaarant beeran |

ਉਠੈ ਸ੍ਰੋਣਧਾਰੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ਹਮੀਰੰ ॥੪੧੦॥

autthai sronadhaaran apaaran hameeran |410|

The brave fighters are striking blows on their enemy with full strength, on account of which there is continuous flow of the blood.410.

ਛੁਟੈਂ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੰ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰੰਤ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

chhuttain chaar chitran bachitrant baanan |

ਚਲੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੈ ਸੂਰਬੀਰੰ ਬਿਮਾਣੰ ॥

chale baitth kai soorabeeran bimaanan |

Queer type of arrows, making beautiful paintings, are moving fastly while piercing the bodies and alongwith it the warriors are flying away in the air-vehicles of death.

ਗਿਰੇ ਬਾਰੁਣੰ ਬਿਥਰੀ ਲੁਥ ਜੁਥੰ ॥

gire baarunan bitharee luth juthan |

ਖੁਲੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੁਆਰੰ ਗਏ ਵੀਰ ਅਛੁਥੰ ॥੪੧੧॥

khule surag duaaran ge veer achhuthan |411|

Because of the falling arrows, the clusters of corpses re lying scattered and the gates of haven have opened for the brave warriors.411.

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰੰਗੋ ॥

naaraaein har rang rango |

Dye yourself in the color of the Lord's Love.

ਜਪਿ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਏਕ ਮੰਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jap jihavaa har ek mango |1| rahaau |

Chant the Name of the One Lord with your tongue, and ask for Him alone. ||1||Pause||

ਤਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਭਜੋ ॥

taj haumai gur giaan bhajo |

Renounce your ego, and dwell upon the spiritual wisdom of the Guru.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਲਿਖਿਓ ॥੧॥

mil sangat dhur karam likhio |1|

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, join the Sangat, the Holy Congregation. ||1||

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਗਇਓ ॥

jo deesai so sang na geo |

Whatever you see, shall not go with you.

ਸਾਕਤੁ ਮੂੜੁ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਇਓ ॥੨॥

saakat moorr lage pach mueo |2|

mohan naam sadaa rav rahio |

The Name of the Fascinating Lord is all-pervading forever.

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਹਿਓ ॥੩॥

kott madhe kinai guramukh lahio |3|

Among millions, how rare is that Gurmukh who attains the Name. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ॥

har santan kar namo namo |

Greet the Lord's Saints humbly, with deep respect.

ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਸੁਖੋ ॥੪॥

nau nidh paaveh atul sukho |4|

You shall obtain the nine treasures, and receive infinite peace. ||4||

ਨੈਨ ਅਲੋਵਉ ਸਾਧ ਜਨੋ ॥

nain alovau saadh jano |

With your eyes, behold the holy people;

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧੋ ॥੫॥

hiradai gaavahu naam nidho |5|

in your heart, sing the treasure of the Naam. ||5||

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਜੋ ॥

kaam krodh lobh mohu tajo |

Abandon sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਹੁ ਤੇ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੬॥

janam maran duhu te rahio |6|

Thus you shall be rid of both birth and death. ||6||

ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਮਿਟਿਓ ॥

dookh andheraa ghar te mittio |

Pain and darkness shall depart from your home,

ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ਦੀਪ ਬਲਿਓ ॥੭॥

gur giaan drirraaeo deep balio |7|

when the Guru implants spiritual wisdom within you, and lights that lamp. ||7||

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ॥

jin seviaa so paar pario |

One who serves the Lord crosses over to the other side.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਿਓ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੩॥

jan naanak guramukh jagat tario |8|1|13|

O servant Nanak, the Gurmukh saves the world. ||8||1||13||

har har gur gur karat bharam ge |

Dwelling upon the Lord, Har, Har, and the Guru, the Guru, my doubts have been dispelled.

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

merai man sabh sukh paaeo |1| rahaau |

My mind has obtained all comforts. ||1||Pause||

ਬਲਤੋ ਜਲਤੋ ਤਉਕਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਸੀਤਲਾਇਓ ॥੧॥

balato jalato taukiaa gur chandan seetalaaeo |1|

I was burning, on fire, and the Guru poured water on me; He is cooling and soothing, like the sandalwood tree. ||1||

ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦੀਪਾਇਓ ॥੨॥

agiaan andheraa mitt geaa gur giaan deepaaeo |2|

The darkness of ignorance has been dispelled; the Guru has lit the lamp of spiritual wisdom. ||2||

ਪਾਵਕੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗਹਰੋ ਚਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਨਾਵ ਤਰਾਇਓ ॥੩॥

paavak saagar gaharo char santan naav taraaeo |3|

The ocean of fire is so deep; the Saints have crossed over, in the boat of the Lord's Name. ||3||

ਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਆਪਾਇਓ ॥੪॥

naa ham karam na dharam such prabh geh bhujaa aapaaeo |4|

I have no good karma; I have no Dharmic faith or purity. But God has taken me by the arm, and made me His own. ||4||

ਭਉ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਓ ॥੫॥

bhau khanddan dukh bhanjano bhagat vachhal har naaeo |5|

The Destroyer of fear, the Dispeller of pain, the Lover of His Saints - these are the Names of the Lord. ||5||

ਅਨਾਥਹ ਨਾਥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਸੰਤ ਓਟਾਇਓ ॥੬॥

anaathah naath kripaal deen samrith sant ottaaeo |6|

He is the Master of the masterless, Merciful to the meek, All-powerful, the Support of His Saints. ||6||

ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ਕੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥੭॥

niraguneeaare kee benatee dehu daras har raaeo |7|

I am worthless - I offer this prayer, O my Lord King: "Please, grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan." ||7||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਇਓ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੪॥

naanak saran tuhaaree tthaakur sevak duaarai aaeo |8|2|14|

Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord and Master; Your servant has come to Your Door. ||8||2||14||
