ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੇਕਈ ਹਠ ਗਹਯੋ ਬਰ ਮਾਗਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੀਰ ॥
eih bidh kekee hatth gahayo bar maagan nrip teer |
In this way Kaikeyi persisted in her demand for boons from the king
ਅਤਿ ਆਤਰ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਿ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਧਯੋ ਕਾਮ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ॥੨੩੪॥
at aatar kiaa keh sakai bidhayo kaam ke teer |234|
The king became greatly agitated but because of the attachment with the winsome wife and under the impact of the god of love (Kamdev), he could not say anything.234.

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਰ ਪਾਇਨ ਰਹੇ ਮੋਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

ਗਹਿਅਉ ਹਠਿ ਅਬਲਾ ਰਹੀ ਮਾਨਯੋ ਬਚਨ ਨ ਏਕ ॥੨੩੫॥
gahiaau hatth abalaa rahee maanayo bachan na ek |235|
The king in many ways holding the feet of the queen to back out from his promise, but that woman, showing her weakness (of fair sex) persisted in her demand and did not accept any request of the king.235.
ਬਰ ਦਯੋ ਮੈ ਛੋਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਤੈਂ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
bar dayo mai chhore nahee tain kar kott upaae |
ਘਰ ਮੋ ਸੁਤ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੀਐ ਬਨਬਾਸੈ ਰਘੁਰਾਇ ॥੨੩੬॥
ghar mo sut kau deejeeai banabaasai raghuraae |236|
“I shall not leave you without getting the boons, though you may make millions of efforts. Give the kingdom to my son and exile Ram.”236.
ਭੂਪ ਧਰਨਿ ਬਿਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਿਰਯੋ ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਾਨ ॥
bhoop dharan bin budh girayo sunat bachan triy kaan |
ਜਿਮ ਮ੍ਰਿਗੇਸ ਬਨ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਧਯੋ ਬਧ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਨ ॥੨੩੭॥
jim mriges ban ke bikhai badhayo badh kar baan |237|
Hearing these words of his wife, the king became unconscious and fell down on the earth like a lion pierced by arrow in the forest.237.
ਤਰਫਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਪਰਯੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਨ ਰਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
tarafaraat prithavee parayo sun ban raam uchaar |
ਪਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਯਾਗੇ ਤਜਤ ਮਧਿ ਸਫਰਿ ਸਰ ਬਾਰ ॥੨੩੮॥
palak praan tayaage tajat madh safar sar baar |238|
Hearing about the exile or ram the king writhed and fell down on the earth like the pining of the fish out of water and breathing her last.238.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਣਯੋ ਉਠਿ ਥਿਰ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਚੇਤ ॥

ਜਨੁ ਰਣ ਸੁਭਟ ਗਿਰਯੋ ਉਠਯੋ ਗਹਿ ਅਸ ਨਿਡਰ ਸੁਚੇਤ ॥੨੩੯॥
jan ran subhatt girayo utthayo geh as niddar suchet |239|
Hearing again the name of Ram the king came to his senses and stood up like a warrior becoming unconscious and falling in war and standing up again holding his sword after becoming conscious.239.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪਤਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਰ ਸਹੋ ਧਰਮ ਨ ਛੋਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
praan patan nrip bar saho dharam na chhoraa jaae |
ਦੈਨ ਕਹੇ ਜੋ ਬਰ ਹੁਤੇ ਤਨ ਜੁਤ ਦਏ ਉਠਾਇ ॥੨੪੦॥
dain kahe jo bar hute tan jut de utthaae |240|
The king accepted death rather than abandonment of his Dharma and the boons which he had promised, he granted them and exiled Ram.240.

ਰਾਮ ਪਯਾਨੋ ਬਨ ਕਰੈ ਭਰਥ ਕਰੈ ਠਕੁਰਾਇ ॥

“Exile Ram and give the kingdom to Bharat
ਬਰਖ ਚਤਰ ਦਸ ਕੇ ਬਿਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਘੁਰਾਇ ॥੨੪੧॥
barakh chatar das ke bite fir raajaa raghuraae |241|
After fourteen year Ram will again become the king.”241.
ਕਹੀ ਬਸਿਸਟ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕਰਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਘੁਬਰ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
kahee basisatt sudhaar kar sree raghubar so jaae |
Vasishtha said the same thing to Ram in an improved way,
ਬਰਖ ਚਤੁਰਦਸ ਭਰਥ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਘੁਰਾਇ ॥੨੪੨॥
barakh chaturadas bharath nrip pun nrip sree raghuraae |242|
That for fourteen years Bharat shall rule and after that you will be the king.242.
ਸੁਨਿ ਬਸਿਸਟ ਕੋ ਬਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਰਘੁਪਤਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਸਸੋਗ ॥

Listening to the words of Vasishtha, Ram (Raghuvir) left with a sad heart,
ਉਤ ਦਸਰਥ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਤਜਯੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਘੁਬੀਰ ਬਿਯੋਗ ॥੨੪੩॥
aut dasarath tan ko tajayo sree raghubeer biyog |243|
And on this side the king. Not enduring the separation of Ram, breathed his last.243.

ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਰਘੁਰਾਇ ਸਭੁ ਧਨ ਦੀਯੋ ਲੁਟਾਇ ਕੈ ॥

On reaching his place Ram gave all his wealth in charity,
ਕਟਿ ਤਰਕਸੀ ਸੁਹਾਇ ਬੋਲਤ ਭੇ ਸੀਅ ਸੋ ਬਚਨ ॥੨੪੪॥
katt tarakasee suhaae bolat bhe seea so bachan |244|
And binding his quiver to his waist he said to Sita 244
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੀਅ ਸੁਜਸ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਰਹੌ ਕੌਸਲਿਆ ਤੀਰ ਤੁਮ ॥
sun seea sujas sujaan rahau kauasaliaa teer tum |
“O wise Sita! You stay with Kaushalya.
ਰਾਜ ਕਰਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਨ ਤੋਹਿ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਨਬਾਸ ਬਸਿ ॥੨੪੫॥
raaj krau fir aan tohi sahit banabaas bas |245|
“And I shall rule again alongwith you after exile.”245.

“I cannot forsake the company of my beloved even if I have to undergo a great suffering.
ਤਨਕ ਨ ਮੋਰਉ ਅੰਗਿ ਅੰਗਿ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਗ ਕਿਨ ॥੨੪੬॥
tanak na morau ang ang te hoe anang kin |246|
“For this, undoubtedly, if my limbs are chopped, I shall not turn back a little and shall not deem it and anguish.”246.

ਜਉ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਸਸੁਰਾਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਸੋਦਰ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤੋਹਿ ਪਠੈ ਦਿਉ ॥
jau na rhau sasuraar krisodar jaeh pitaa grih tohi patthai diau |
“O lady of slim waist! If you do not like to stay with your in-laws, then I shall send you to your father’s house,
ਨੈਕ ਸੇ ਭਾਨਨ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਜੋਈ ਠਾਟ ਕਹੋ ਸੋਈ ਗਾਠ ਗਿਠੈ ਦਿਉ ॥
naik se bhaanan te ham kau joee tthaatt kaho soee gaatth gitthai diau |
“And I shall make the arrangements that you like, there shall be no objection on my part
ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਚਾਹ ਕਰੋ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਟੁਕ ਮੋਹ ਕਹੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਹਿ ਉਠੈ ਦਿਉ ॥
je kichh chaah karo dhan kee ttuk moh kaho sabh tohi utthai diau |
“If you want to have some wealth, then tell me clearly, I shall give you wealth according to your wishes
ਕੇਤਕ ਅਉਧ ਕੋ ਰਾਜ ਸਲੋਚਨ ਰੰਕ ਕੋ ਲੰਕ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਲੁਟੈ ਦਿਉ ॥੨੪੭॥
ketak aaudh ko raaj salochan rank ko lank nisank luttai diau |247|
“O lady of beautiful eyes! There is only a time factor. If you agree, I shall give in charity to the poor a city full of riches like the city of Lanka.247.
ਘੋਰ ਸੀਆ ਬਨ ਤੂੰ ਸੁ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਕਹੋ ਹਮ ਸੋਂ ਕਸ ਤੈ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਹੈ ॥

“O Sita! The forest life is full of troubles and you are a princess you may tell me, how will you carry on there?
ਗੁੰਜਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਡਕਾਰਤ ਕੋਲ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਭੀਲ ਲਖੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਐਹੈ ॥
gunjat singh ddakaarat kol bhayaanak bheel lakhai bhram aihai |
“The lions roar there, there are dreadful Kauls, Bhils, seeing whom one is frightened.
ਸੁੰਕਤ ਸਾਪ ਬਕਾਰਤ ਬਾਘ ਭਕਾਰਤ ਭੂਤ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ ਪੈਹੈ ॥
sunkat saap bakaarat baagh bhakaarat bhoot mahaa dukh paihai |
“The serpents hiss there, the tiger thunder and there are also extremely agonizing ghosts and fiends.
ਤੂੰ ਸੁ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਰਚੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਚਲੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਿਉਾਂ ਬਨਿ ਐਹੈ ॥੨੪੮॥
toon su kumaar rachee karataar bichaar chale tuhi kiauaan ban aihai |248|
“The Lord had made you a delicate one, think for a little while, why should you go to the forest?”248.

sool sahon tan sook rahon par see na kahon sir sool sahongee |
“If the thorns sting and the body pines away, I shall endure the hardship of the thorn on my head.
ਬਾਘ ਬੁਕਾਰ ਫਨੀਨ ਫੁਕਾਰ ਸੁ ਸੀਸ ਗਿਰੋ ਪਰ ਸੀ ਨ ਕਹੋਂਗੀ ॥
baagh bukaar faneen fukaar su sees giro par see na kahongee |
”If the tigers and serpents fall on my head, even then I shall not utter ‘oh’ or ‘alas’.
ਬਾਸ ਕਹਾ ਬਨਬਾਸ ਭਲੋ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਸ ਤਜੋ ਪੀਯ ਪਾਇ ਗਹੋਂਗੀ ॥
baas kahaa banabaas bhalo nahee paas tajo peey paae gahongee |
“For me the exile in the forest is good for me than the palace, O beloved! bow at your feet.
ਹਾਸ ਕਹਾ ਇਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਸਮੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਸ ਰਹੋ ਪਰ ਮੈ ਨ ਰਹੋਂਗੀ ॥੨੪੯॥
haas kahaa ih udaas samai grih aas raho par mai na rahongee |249|
“Do not joke with me at this sad hour, I shall have hope and return to our home if I shall be with you, but I shall not live here without you.”249.

ਐਸੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

ਦੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥
dukh visarai paavai sach soee |1|
Pain is forgotten, when the True Lord is found. ||1||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
darasan dekh bhee mat pooree |
Beholding the blessed vision of his darshan, my understanding has become perfect.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਚਰਨਹ ਧੂਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The cleansing baths at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage are in the dust of his feet. ||1||Pause||
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰਾ ॥
netr santokhe ek liv taaraa |
My eyes are contented with the constant love of the One Lord.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸੂਚੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
jihavaa soochee har ras saaraa |2|
My tongue is purified by the most sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
sach karanee abh antar sevaa |
True are my actions, and deep within my being, I serve Him.
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਿਆ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੩॥
man tripataasiaa alakh abhevaa |3|
My mind is satisfied by the Inscrutable, Mysterious Lord. ||3||
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਸਾਚਾ ॥
jeh jeh dekhau teh teh saachaa |
Wherever I look, there I find the True Lord.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਝਗਰਤ ਜਗੁ ਕਾਚਾ ॥੪॥
bin boojhe jhagarat jag kaachaa |4|
Without understanding, the world argues in falsehood. ||4||
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur samajhaavai sojhee hoee |
When the Guru instructs, understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੫॥
guramukh viralaa boojhai koee |5|
How rare is that Gurmukh who understands. ||5||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ॥
kar kirapaa raakhahu rakhavaale |
Show Your Mercy, and save me, O Savior Lord!
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ ॥੬॥
bin boojhe pasoo bhe betaale |6|
Without understanding, people become beasts and demons. ||6||
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
gur kahiaa avar nahee doojaa |
The Guru has said that there is no other at all.
ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਰਉ ਅਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥੭॥
kis kahu dekh krau an poojaa |7|
So tell me, who should I see, and who should I worship? ||7||
ਸੰਤ ਹੇਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sant het prabh tribhavan dhaare |
For the sake of the Saints, God has established the three worlds.
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨੈ ਸੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੮॥
aatam cheenai su tat beechaare |8|
One who understands his own soul, contemplates the essence of reality. ||8||
ਸਾਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਚੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
saach ridai sach prem nivaas |
One whose heart is filled with Truth and true love
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ॥੯॥੮॥
pranavat naanak ham taa ke daas |9|8|
- prays Nanak, I am his servant. ||9||8||

Gauree, First Mehl:
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਕੀਆ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
brahamai garab keea nahee jaaniaa |
Brahma acted in pride, and did not understand.
ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਪੜੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਿਆ ॥
bed kee bipat parree pachhutaaniaa |
Only when he was faced with the downfall of the Vedas did he repent.
ਜਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਮਰੇ ਤਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥
jeh prabh simare tahee man maaniaa |1|
Remembering God in meditation, the mind is conciliated. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ॥
aisaa garab buraa sansaarai |
Such is the horrible pride of the world.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jis gur milai tis garab nivaarai |1| rahaau |
The Guru eliminates the pride of those who meet Him. ||1||Pause||
ਬਲਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
bal raajaa maaeaa ahankaaree |
Bal the King, in Maya and egotism,
ਜਗਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰ ਅਫਾਰੀ ॥
jagan karai bahu bhaar afaaree |
held his ceremonial feasts, but he was puffed up with pride.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛੇ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
bin gur poochhe jaae peaaree |2|
Without the Guru's advice, he had to go to the underworld. ||2||
ਹਰੀਚੰਦੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
hareechand daan karai jas levai |
Hari Chand gave in charity, and earned public praise.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਅਭੇਵੈ ॥
bin gur ant na paae abhevai |
But without the Guru, he did not find the limits of the Mysterious Lord.
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਵੈ ॥੩॥
aap bhulaae aape mat devai |3|
The Lord Himself misleads people, and He Himself imparts understanding. ||3||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰੀ ॥
duramat haranaakhas duraachaaree |
The evil-minded Harnaakhash committed evil deeds.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਗਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੀ ॥
prabh naaraaein garab prahaaree |
God, the Lord of all, is the Destroyer of pride.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
prahalaad udhaare kirapaa dhaaree |4|
He bestowed His Mercy, and saved Prahlaad. ||4||
ਭੂਲੋ ਰਾਵਣੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਅਚੇਤਿ ॥
bhoolo raavan mugadh achet |
Raawan was deluded, foolish and unwise.
ਲੂਟੀ ਲੰਕਾ ਸੀਸ ਸਮੇਤਿ ॥
loottee lankaa sees samet |
Sri Lanka was plundered, and he lost his head.
ਗਰਬਿ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ॥੫॥
garab geaa bin satigur het |5|
He indulged in ego, and lacked the love of the True Guru. ||5||
ਸਹਸਬਾਹੁ ਮਧੁ ਕੀਟ ਮਹਿਖਾਸਾ ॥
sahasabaahu madh keett mahikhaasaa |
The Lord killed the thousand-armed Arjun, and the demons Madhu-keetab and Meh-khaasaa.
ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਲੇ ਨਖਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਸਾ ॥
haranaakhas le nakhahu bidhaasaa |
He seized Harnaakhash and tore him apart with his nails.
ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥੬॥
dait sanghaare bin bhagat abhiaasaa |6|
The demons were slain; they did not practice devotional worship. ||6||
ਜਰਾਸੰਧਿ ਕਾਲਜਮੁਨ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
jaraasandh kaalajamun sanghaare |
The demons Jaraa-sandh and Kaal-jamun were destroyed.
ਰਕਤਬੀਜੁ ਕਾਲੁਨੇਮੁ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥
rakatabeej kaalunem bidaare |
Rakat-beej and Kaal-naym were annihilated.
ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
dait sanghaar sant nisataare |7|
Slaying the demons, the Lord saved His Saints. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
aape satigur sabad beechaare |
He Himself, as the True Guru, contemplates the Shabad.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
doojai bhaae dait sanghaare |
Because of the love of duality, God killed the demons.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥
guramukh saach bhagat nisataare |8|
By their true devotion, the Gurmukhs have been saved. ||8||
ਬੂਡਾ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
booddaa durajodhan pat khoee |
Sinking down, Durodhan lost his honor.
ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
raam na jaaniaa karataa soee |
He did not know the Creator Lord.
ਜਨ ਕਉ ਦੂਖਿ ਪਚੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੯॥
jan kau dookh pachai dukh hoee |9|
One who makes the Lord's humble servant suffer, shall himself suffer and rot. ||9||
ਜਨਮੇਜੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
janamejai gurasabad na jaaniaa |
Janameja did not know the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਿਆ ॥
kiau sukh paavai bharam bhulaaniaa |
Deluded by doubt, how could he find peace?
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਿਆ ॥੧੦॥
eik til bhoole bahur pachhutaaniaa |10|
Making a mistake, for even an instant, you shall regret and repent later on. ||10||
ਕੰਸੁ ਕੇਸੁ ਚਾਂਡੂਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
kans kes chaanddoor na koee |
Kansa the King and his warriors Kays and Chandoor had no equals.
ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
raam na cheeniaa apanee pat khoee |
But they did not remember the Lord, and they lost their honor.
ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧੧॥
bin jagadees na raakhai koee |11|
Without the Lord of the Universe, no one can be saved. ||11||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur garab na mettiaa jaae |
Without the Guru, pride cannot be eradicated.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
guramat dharam dheeraj har naae |
Following the Guru's Teachings, one obtains Dharmic faith, composure and the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧੨॥੯॥
naanak naam milai gun gaae |12|9|
O Nanak, singing the Glories of God, His Name is received. ||12||9||
