ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵ ਰਾਮ ਹੈ ॥

ਅਭੇਵ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮ ਹੈ ॥
abhev dharam dhaam hai |
“The superb god amongst men is Ram who is certainly the abode of Dhrma,
ਅਬੁਧ ਨਾਰਿ ਤੈ ਮਨੈ ॥
abudh naar tai manai |
ਬਿਸੁਧ ਬਾਤ ਕੋ ਭਨੈ ॥੨੦੩॥
bisudh baat ko bhanai |203|
“O foolish woman! why are you uttering such contrary words?203.
ਅਗਾਧਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ॥
agaadh dev anant hai |
ਅਭੂਤ ਸੋਭਵੰਤ ਹੈ ॥
abhoot sobhavant hai |
“He is unfathomable and infinite god and is highly seated beyond all elements.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਰਣੰ ॥
kripaal karam kaaranan |
ਬਿਹਾਲ ਦਿਆਲ ਤਾਰਣੰ ॥੨੦੪॥

“He is merciful and kind towards all and mercifully gives support to helpless and ferries them across.204.

“He is the saviour of many saints and is the basic cause of the gods and demons.
ਸੁਰੇਸ ਭਾਇ ਰੂਪਣੰ ॥

ਸਮਿਧ੍ਰ ਸਿਧ ਕੂਪਣੰ ॥੨੦੫॥

“He is also the king of gods and is the store of all powers.”205.

The queen said, “O king! Grant me the boons and fulfil thy sayins.
ਨ ਸੰਕ ਰਾਜ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥

“Adandon the position of duality from your mind and do not fail in your promise.”206.

ਸਾਧੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥

Holy Saadhus: rest and peace are in the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਪੜੇ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਗੁਨ ਸਿਮਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bed puraan parre ko ih gun simare har ko naamaa |1| rahaau |
This is the blessing of studying the Vedas and the Puraanas, that you may meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਅਉ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
lobh moh maaeaa mamataa fun aau bikhian kee sevaa |
Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness, the service of evil, pleasure and pain,
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਪਰਸੈ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਸੋ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
harakh sog parasai jih naahan so moorat hai devaa |1|
- those who are not touched by these, are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1||
ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਖੁ ਏ ਸਭ ਤਿਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਅਰੁ ਪੈਸਾ ॥
surag narak amrit bikh e sabh tiau kanchan ar paisaa |
Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper - these are all alike to them.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਏ ਸਮ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੈਸਾ ॥੨॥
ausatat nindaa e sam jaa kai lobh mohu fun taisaa |2|
Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਏ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਨਉ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
dukh sukh e baadhe jih naahan tih tum jaanau giaanee |
They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਉ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੭॥
naanak mukat taeh tum maanau ih bidh ko jo praanee |3|7|
O Nanak, recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਤੈ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
man re kahaa bheo tai bauraa |
O mind, why have you gone crazy?
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਭਇਓ ਲੋਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ahinis aaudh ghattai nahee jaanai bheo lobh sang hauraa |1| rahaau |
Don't you know that your life is decreasing, day and night? Your life is made worthless with greed. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਤਨੁ ਤੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
jo tan tai apano kar maanio ar sundar grih naaree |
That body, which you believe to be your own, and your beautiful home and spouse
ਇਨ ਮੈਂ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਦੇਖੋ ਸੋਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
ein main kachh tero re naahan dekho soch bichaaree |1|
- none of these is yours to keep. See this, reflect upon it and understand. ||1||
ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਨੋ ਤੈ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
ratan janam apano tai haario gobind gat nahee jaanee |
You have wasted the precious jewel of this human life; you do not know the Way of the Lord of the Universe.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਲੀਨ ਭਇਓ ਚਰਨਨ ਸਿਂਉ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਅਉਧ ਸਿਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
nimakh na leen bheo charanan sinau birathaa aaudh siraanee |2|
You have not been absorbed in the Lord's Feet, even for an instant. Your life has passed away in vain! ||2||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਨਰੁ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
kahu naanak soee nar sukheea raam naam gun gaavai |
Says Nanak, that man is happy, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.
ਅਉਰ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੮॥
aaur sagal jag maaeaa mohiaa nirabhai pad nahee paavai |3|8|
All the rest of the world is enticed by Maya; they do not obtain the state of fearless dignity. ||3||8||

ਨਰ ਅਚੇਤ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਡਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
nar achet paap te ddar re |
You people are unconscious; you should be afraid of sin.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਪਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen deaal sagal bhai bhanjan saran taeh tum par re |1| rahaau |
Seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of all fear. ||1||Pause||
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਜਾਸ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੀਐ ਮੋ ਧਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
bed puraan jaas gun gaavat taa ko naam heeai mo dhar re |
The Vedas and the Puraanas sing His Praises; enshrine His Name within your heart.
ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕਸਮਲ ਸਭ ਹਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
paavan naam jagat mai har ko simar simar kasamal sabh har re |1|
Pure and sublime is the Name of the Lord in the world. Remembering it in meditation, all sinful mistakes shall be washed away. ||1||
ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਕਛੂ ਉਪਾਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਾ ਕਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
maanas deh bahur neh paavai kachhoo upaau mukat kaa kar re |
You shall not obtain this human body again; make the effort - try to achieve liberation!
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਗਾਇ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਮੈ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੫੧॥
naanak kehat gaae karunaa mai bhav saagar kai paar utar re |2|9|251|
Says Nanak, sing of the Lord of compassion, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||9||251||

ik oankaar sat naam karataa purakh gur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:
ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
nidh sidh niramal naam beechaar |
The nine treasures and the miraculous spiritual powers come by contemplating the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
pooran poor rahiaa bikh maar |
The Perfect Lord is All-pervading everywhere; He destroys the poison of Maya.
ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥
trikuttee chhoottee bimal majhaar |
I am rid of the three-phased Maya, dwelling in the Pure Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਜੀਇ ਆਈ ਕਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
gur kee mat jee aaee kaar |1|
The Guru's Teachings are useful to my soul. ||1||
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
ein bidh raam ramat man maaniaa |
Chanting the Lord's Name in this way, my mind is satisfied.
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
giaan anjan gur sabad pachhaaniaa |1| rahaau |
I have obtained the ointment of spiritual wisdom, recognizing the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
eik sukh maaniaa sehaj milaaeaa |
Blended with the One Lord, I enjoy intuitive peace.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
niramal baanee bharam chukaaeaa |
Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, my doubts have been dispelled.
ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
laal bhe soohaa rang maaeaa |
Instead of the pale color of Maya, I am imbued with the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love.
ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nadar bhee bikh tthaak rahaaeaa |2|
By the Lord's Glance of Grace, the poison has been eliminated. ||2||
ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ॥
aulatt bhee jeevat mar jaagiaa |
When I turned away, and became dead while yet alive, I was awakened.
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿਆ ॥
sabad rave man har siau laagiaa |
Chanting the Word of the Shabad, my mind is attached to the Lord.
ਰਸੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ॥
ras sangreh bikh parahar tiaagiaa |
I have gathered in the Lord's sublime essence, and cast out the poison.
ਭਾਇ ਬਸੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
bhaae base jam kaa bhau bhaagiaa |3|
Abiding in His Love, the fear of death has run away. ||3||
ਸਾਦ ਰਹੇ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
saad rahe baadan ahankaaraa |
My taste for pleasure ended, along with conflict and egotism.
ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
chit har siau raataa hukam apaaraa |
My consciousness is attuned to the Lord, by the Order of the Infinite.
ਜਾਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਆਚਾਰਾ ॥
jaat rahe pat ke aachaaraa |
My pursuit for worldy pride and honour is over.
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਤਮ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
drisatt bhee sukh aatam dhaaraa |4|
When He blessed me with His Glance of Grace, peace was established in my soul. ||4||
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਦੇਖਉ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
tujh bin koe na dekhau meet |
Without You, I see no friend at all.
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
kis sevau kis devau cheet |
Whom should I serve? Unto whom should I dedicate my consciousness?
ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਛਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
kis poochhau kis laagau paae |
Whom should I ask? At whose feet should I fall?
ਕਿਸੁ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥
kis upades rahaa liv laae |5|
By whose teachings will I remain absorbed in His Love? ||5||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
gur sevee gur laagau paae |
I serve the Guru, and I fall at the Guru's Feet.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਚਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
bhagat karee raachau har naae |
I worship Him, and I am absorbed in the Lord's Name.
ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ॥
sikhiaa deekhiaa bhojan bhaau |
The Lord's Love is my instruction, sermon and food.
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥
hukam sanjogee nij ghar jaau |6|
Enjoined to the Lord's Command, I have entered the home of my inner self. ||6||
ਗਰਬ ਗਤੰ ਸੁਖ ਆਤਮ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
garab gatan sukh aatam dhiaanaa |
With the extinction of pride, my soul has found peace and meditation.
ਜੋਤਿ ਭਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
jot bhee jotee maeh samaanaa |
The Divine Light has dawned, and I am absorbed in the Light.
ਲਿਖਤੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨਾ ॥
likhat mittai nahee sabad neesaanaa |
Pre-ordained destiny cannot be erased; the Shabad is my banner and insignia.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੭॥
karataa karanaa karataa jaanaa |7|
I know the Creator, the Creator of His Creation. ||7||
ਨਹ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਨਹ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
neh panddit neh chatur siaanaa |
I am not a learned Pandit, I am not clever or wise.
ਨਹ ਭੂਲੋ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
neh bhoolo neh bharam bhulaanaa |
I do not wander; I am not deluded by doubt.
ਕਥਉ ਨ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
kthau na kathanee hukam pachhaanaa |
I do not speak empty speech; I have recognized the Hukam of His Command.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak guramat sehaj samaanaa |8|1|
Nanak is absorbed in intuitive peace through the Guru's Teachings. ||8||1||
