ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJNAG PRAYYAT STANZA

ਕਿਧੌ ਦੇਵ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਕਿਧੌ ਬਾਸਵੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau dev kaniaa kidhau baasavee hai |

ਕਿਧੌ ਜਛਨੀ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਰਨੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau jachhanee kinranee naaganee hai |

Sita appeared like the daughter of a god or Indra, daughter of a Naga, daughter of a Yaksha or daughter of a Kinnar.

ਕਿਧੌ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬੀ ਦੈਤ ਜਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਸੀ ॥

kidhau gandhrabee dait jaa devataa see |

ਕਿਧੌ ਸੂਰਜਾ ਸੁਧ ਸੋਧੀ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੧੩॥

kidhau soorajaa sudh sodhee sudhaa see |113|

She looked like the daughter of a Gandharva, daughter of a demon or goddess. She appeared like the daughter of Sum or like the ambrosial light of the Moon.113.

ਕਿਧੌ ਜਛ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਧਰੀ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau jachh bidiaa dharee gandhrabee hai |

ਕਿਧੌ ਰਾਗਨੀ ਭਾਗ ਪੂਰੇ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau raaganee bhaag poore rachee hai |

She appeared like a Gandharva woman, having obtained the learning of Yakshas or a complete creation of a Ragini (musical mode).

ਕਿਧੌ ਸੁਵਰਨ ਕੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਾ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau suvaran kee chitr kee putrakaa hai |

ਕਿਧੌ ਕਾਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੪॥

kidhau kaam kee kaamanee kee prabhaa hai |114|

She looked like a golden puppet or the glory of a beautiful lady, full of passion.114.

ਕਿਧੌ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਾ ਸੀ ਬਨੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau chitr kee putrakaa see banee hai |

ਕਿਧੌ ਸੰਖਨੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਨੀ ਪਦਮਨੀ ਹੈ ॥

kidhau sankhanee chitranee padamanee hai |

She appeared like a puppet exquisite a Padmini (different gradations of a woman).

ਕਿਧੌ ਰਾਗ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਰੀ ਰਾਗ ਮਾਲਾ ॥

kidhau raag poore bharee raag maalaa |

ਬਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਤੈਸੀ ਸੀਆ ਆਜ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੧੧੫॥

baree raam taisee seea aaj baalaa |115|

She looked like Ragmala, studded completely with Ragas (musical modes), and Ram wedded such a beautiful Sita.115.

ਛਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੋਨੋ ਲਗੇ ਨੈਨ ਐਸੇ ॥

chhake prem dono lage nain aise |

ਮਨੋ ਫਾਧ ਫਾਧੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗੀਰਾਜ ਜੈਸੇ ॥

mano faadh faadhai mrigeeraaj jaise |

Having been absorbed in love for each other.

ਬਿਧੁੰ ਬਾਕ ਬੈਣੀ ਕਟੰ ਦੇਸ ਛੀਣੰ ॥

bidhun baak bainee kattan des chheenan |

ਰੰਗੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਮੰ ਸੁਨੈਣੰ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਣੰ ॥੧੧੬॥

range rang raaman sunainan prabeenan |116|

Sita of sweet speech and slim waist and visually absorbed with Ram, is looking exquisitely beautiful.116.

ਜਿਣੀ ਰਾਮ ਸੀਤਾ ਸੁਣੀ ਸ੍ਰਉਣ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

jinee raam seetaa sunee sraun raaman |

ਗਹੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਰਿਸਯੋ ਤਉਨ ਜਾਮੰ ॥

gahe sasatr asatran risayo taun jaaman |

When Parashuram heard this that Ram hath conquered Sita, he at that time, in great ire, held up his arms and weapons.

ਕਹਾ ਜਾਤ ਭਾਖਿਯੋ ਰਹੋ ਰਾਮ ਠਾਢੇ ॥

kahaa jaat bhaakhiyo raho raam tthaadte |

ਲਖੋ ਆਜ ਕੈਸੇ ਭਏ ਬੀਰ ਗਾਢੇ ॥੧੧੭॥

lakho aaj kaise bhe beer gaadte |117|

He asked Ram to stop there and challenged him saying.”I shall now see, what type of hero thou art.”117.

ran baje gaje nagaare |

The warriors raised loud shouts and the terrible trumpets resounded.

ਰਣ ਹੁਲ ਕਲੋਲੰ ਹੁਲਾਲੰ ॥

ran hul kalolan hulaalan |

ਢਲ ਹਲੰ ਢਲੰ ਉਛਾਲੰ ॥੧੧੮॥

dtal halan dtalan uchhaalan |118|

There were war-cries in the battlefield and the warriors, being pleased began to hurl their shields up and down.118.

ਰਣ ਉਠੇ ਕੁਠੇ ਮੁਛਾਲੇ ॥

ran utthe kutthe muchhaale |

ਸਰ ਛੁਟੇ ਜੁਟੇ ਭੀਹਾਲੇ ॥

sar chhutte jutte bheehaale |

The warriors with twined whiskers gathered together for war and fought with each other discharging dreadful shower of arrows.

ਰਤੁ ਡਿਗੇ ਭਿਗੇ ਜੋਧਾਣੰ ॥

rat ddige bhige jodhaanan |

ਕਣਣੰਛੇ ਕਛੇ ਕਿਕਾਣੰ ॥੧੧੯॥

kanananchhe kachhe kikaanan |119|

The fighters drenched with blood began to fell and the horses were being crushed in the battlefield.119.

ਭੀਖਣੀਯੰ ਭੇਰੀ ਭੁੰਕਾਰੰ ॥

bheekhaneeyan bheree bhunkaaran |

ਝਲ ਲੰਕੇ ਖੰਡੇ ਦੁਧਾਰੰ ॥

jhal lanke khandde dudhaaran |

The sound of the drums of Yoginis was being heard and the double-edged daggers glistened.

ਜੁਧੰ ਜੁਝਾਰੰ ਬੁਬਾੜੇ ॥

judhan jujhaaran bubaarre |

ਰੁਲੀਏ ਪਖਰੀਏ ਆਹਾੜੇ ॥੧੨੦॥

rulee pakharee aahaarre |120|

The warriors were mumbling and falling as martyrs and the heroes wearing armours were rolling in dust.120.

ਬਕੇ ਬਬਾੜੇ ਬੰਕਾਰੰ ॥

bake babaarre bankaaran |

ਨਚੇ ਪਖਰੀਏ ਜੁਝਾਰੰ ॥

nache pakharee jujhaaran |

The brave fighters thundered and the warriors wearing steel armours, being intoxicated, began to dance.

ਬਜੇ ਸੰਗਲੀਏ ਭੀਹਾਲੇ ॥

baje sangalee bheehaale |

ਰਣ ਰਤੇ ਮਤੇ ਮੁਛਾਲੇ ॥੧੨੧॥

ran rate mate muchhaale |121|

The terrible trumpets resounded and the warriors with dreadful whiskers began to fight in the war.121.

ਉਛਲੀਏ ਕਛੀ ਕਛਾਲੇ ॥

auchhalee kachhee kachhaale |

ਉਡੇ ਜਣੁ ਪਬੰ ਪਛਾਲੇ ॥

audde jan paban pachhaale |

The warriors were fighting with each other while twisting their whiskers. The chopping heroes were jumping like the winged mountains.

ਜੁਟੇ ਭਟ ਛੁਟੇ ਮੁਛਾਲੇ ॥

jutte bhatt chhutte muchhaale |

ਰੁਲੀਏ ਆਹਾੜੰ ਪਖਰਾਲੇ ॥੧੨੨॥

rulee aahaarran pakharaale |122|

The brave soldiers wearing armours are lying down on the earh.122.

ਬਜੇ ਸੰਧੂਰੰ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥

baje sandhooran nagaare |

ਕਛੇ ਕਛੀਲੇ ਲੁਝਾਰੇ ॥

kachhe kachheele lujhaare |

The trumpets resounded upto distant places and the horses began to run hither and thither.

ਗਣ ਹੂਰੰ ਪੂਰੰ ਗੈਣਾਯੰ ॥

gan hooran pooran gainaayan |

ਅੰਜਨਯੰ ਅੰਜੇ ਨੈਣਾਯੰ ॥੧੨੩॥

anjanayan anje nainaayan |123|

The heavenly damsels began to roam in the sky and bedecking themselves and putting collyrium in their eyes they began to see the war.123.

ਰਣ ਣਕੇ ਨਾਦੰ ਨਾਫੀਰੰ ॥

ran nake naadan naafeeran |

ਬਬਾੜੇ ਬੀਰੰ ਹਾਬੀਰੰ ॥

babaarre beeran haabeeran |

The thundering musical instruments were played in the war and the brave soldiers roared.

ਉਘੇ ਜਣੁ ਨੇਜੇ ਜਟਾਲੇ ॥

aughe jan neje jattaale |

ਛੁਟੇ ਸਿਲ ਸਿਤਿਯੰ ਮੁਛਾਲੇ ॥੧੨੪॥

chhutte sil sitiyan muchhaale |124|

The warriors holding their spears in their hands began to strike them, the arms and weapons of the warriors were put to use.124.

ਭਟ ਡਿਗੇ ਘਾਯੰ ਅਘਾਯੰ ॥

bhatt ddige ghaayan aghaayan |

ਤਨ ਸੁਭੇ ਅਧੇ ਅਧਾਯੰ ॥

tan subhe adhe adhaayan |

The wounded warriors fell down and their bodies were chopped.

ਦਲ ਗਜੇ ਬਜੇ ਨੀਸਾਣੰ ॥

dal gaje baje neesaanan |

ਚੰਚਲੀਏ ਤਾਜੀ ਚੀਹਾਣੰ ॥੧੨੫॥

chanchalee taajee cheehaanan |125|

The armies thundered and the trumpets resounded, the restless horses neighed in the battlefield.125.

ਚਵ ਦਿਸਯੰ ਚਿੰਕੀ ਚਾਵੰਡੈ ॥

chav disayan chinkee chaavanddai |

ਖੰਡੇ ਖੰਡੇ ਕੈ ਆਖੰਡੈ ॥

khandde khandde kai aakhanddai |

The vultures shrieked on all the four sides and they began to reduce already chopped bodies into bits.

ਰਣ ੜੰਕੇ ਗਿਧੰ ਉਧਾਣੰ ॥

ran rranke gidhan udhaanan |

ਜੈ ਜੰਪੈ ਸਿੰਧੰ ਸੁਧਾਣੰ ॥੧੨੬॥

jai janpai sindhan sudhaanan |126|

In the jungle of that battlefield they began to play with the bits of flesh and the adepts and yogis wished for victory.126.

ਫੁਲੇ ਜਣੁ ਕਿੰਸਕ ਬਾਸੰਤੰ ॥

fule jan kinsak baasantan |

ਰਣ ਰਤੇ ਸੂਰਾ ਸਾਮੰਤੰ ॥

ran rate sooraa saamantan |

Just as the flowers blossom in the spring, in the same manner are seen the mighty warriors fighting in the war.

ਡਿਗੇ ਰਣ ਸੁੰਡੀ ਸੁੰਡਾਣੰ ॥

ddige ran sunddee sunddaanan |

ਧਰ ਭੂਰੰ ਪੂਰੰ ਮੁੰਡਾਣੰ ॥੧੨੭॥

dhar bhooran pooran munddaanan |127|

The trunks of the elephants began to fell in the battlefield and the whole earth was filled with hacked heads.127.

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੀਅਰੇ ਓਲੑਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ॥

jeeare olaa naam kaa |

Hey, soul: your only Support is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਅਵਰੁ ਜਿ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਉ ਹੈ ਜਾਮ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

avar ji karan karaavano tin meh bhau hai jaam kaa |1| rahaau |

Whatever else you do or make happen, the fear of death still hangs over you. ||1||Pause||

ਅਵਰ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

avar jatan nahee paaeeai |

He is not obtained by any other efforts.

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥

vaddai bhaag har dhiaaeeai |1|

By great good fortune, meditate on the Lord. ||1||

ਲਾਖ ਹਿਕਮਤੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥

laakh hikamatee jaaneeai |

You may know hundreds of thousands of clever tricks,

ਆਗੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੨॥

aagai til nahee maaneeai |2|

but not even one will be of any use at all hereafter. ||2||

ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਨੇ ॥

ahanbudh karam kamaavane |

Good deeds done in the pride of ego are swept away,

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਾਲੂ ਨੀਰਿ ਬਹਾਵਨੇ ॥੩॥

grih baaloo neer bahaavane |3|

Like the house of sand by water. ||3||

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

prabh kripaal kirapaa karai |

When God the Merciful shows His Mercy,

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੪੨॥

naam naanak saadhoo sang milai |4|4|142|

Nanak receives the Naam in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||4||4||142||

ਬਾਰਨੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਨੈ ਲਖ ਬਰੀਆ ॥

baaranai balihaaranai lakh bareea |

I am a sacrifice, dedicated hundreds of thousands of times, to my Lord and Master.

ਨਾਮੋ ਹੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

naamo ho naam saahib ko praan adhareea |1| rahaau |

His Name, and His Name alone, is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਤੁਹੀ ਏਕ ॥

karan karaavan tuhee ek |

You alone are the Doer, the Cause of causes.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਟੇਕ ॥੧॥

jeea jant kee tuhee ttek |1|

You are the Support of all beings and creatures. ||1||

ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੂੰ ਧਨੀ ॥

raaj joban prabh toon dhanee |

O God, You are my power, authority and youth.

ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੂੰ ਸਰਗੁਨੀ ॥੨॥

toon niragun toon saragunee |2|

You are absolute, without attributes, and also related, with the most sublime attributes. ||2||

ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੁਮ ਰਖੇ ॥

eehaa aoohaa tum rakhe |

Here and hereafter, You are my Savior and Protector.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਕੋ ਲਖੇ ॥੩॥

gur kirapaa te ko lakhe |3|

By Guru's Grace, some understand You. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥

antarajaamee prabh sujaan |

God is All-knowing, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਕੀਆ ਤੁਹੀ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੪੩॥

naanak takeea tuhee taan |4|5|143|

You are Nanak's strength and support. ||4||5||143||

Worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har, Har.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਭਉ ਸਾਧੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

santasang har man vasai bharam mohu bhau saadheeai |1| rahaau |

In the Society of the Saints, He dwells in the mind; doubt, emotional attachment and fear are vanquished. ||1||Pause||

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਨੇ ॥

bed puraan simrit bhane |

The Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees are heard to proclaim

ਸਭ ਊਚ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਜਨ ਸੁਨੇ ॥੧॥

sabh aooch biraajit jan sune |1|

that the Lord's servant dwells as the highest of all. ||1||

ਸਗਲ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਚੀਨ ॥

sagal asathaan bhai bheet cheen |

All places are filled with fear - know this well.

ਰਾਮ ਸੇਵਕ ਭੈ ਰਹਤ ਕੀਨ ॥੨॥

raam sevak bhai rehat keen |2|

Only the Lord's servants are free of fear. ||2||

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥

lakh chauraaseeh jon fireh |

People wander through 8.4 million incarnations.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ॥੩॥

gobind lok nahee janam mareh |3|

God's people are not subject to birth and death. ||3||

ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਹਉਮੈ ਰਹੀ ॥

bal budh siaanap haumai rahee |

He has given up power, wisdom, cleverness and egotism.

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਹੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੪੪॥

har saadh saran naanak gahee |4|6|144|

Nanak has taken to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Holy Saints. ||4||6||144||

ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

man raam naam gun gaaeeai |

O my mind, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.

ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

neet neet har seveeai saas saas har dhiaaeeai |1| rahaau |

Serve the Lord continually and continuously; with each and every breath, meditate on the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥

santasang har man vasai |

In the Society of the Saints, the Lord dwells in the mind,

ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਅਨੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥

dukh darad aneraa bhram nasai |1|

and pain, suffering, darkness and doubt depart. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ॥

sant prasaad har jaapeeai |

That humble being, who meditates on the Lord,

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਦੂਖਿ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੀਐ ॥੨॥

so jan dookh na viaapeeai |2|

By the Grace of the Saints, is not afflicted with pain. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੇ ॥

jaa kau gur har mantru de |

Those unto whom the Guru gives the Mantra of the Lord's Name,

ਸੋ ਉਬਰਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ॥੩॥

so ubariaa maaeaa agan te |3|

are saved from the fire of Maya. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ॥

naanak kau prabh meaa kar |

Be kind to Nanak, O God;

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਾਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪੫॥

merai man tan vaasai naam har |4|7|145|

let the Lord's Name dwell within my mind and body. ||4||7||145||

ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮ ॥

rasanaa japeeai ek naam |

With your tongue, chant the Name of the One Lord.

ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਘਨਾ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

eehaa sukh aanand ghanaa aagai jeea kai sang kaam |1| rahaau |

In this world, it shall bring you peace, comfort and great joy; hereafter, it shall go with your soul, and shall be of use to you. ||1||Pause||

ਕਟੀਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਹੰ ਰੋਗੁ ॥

katteeai teraa ahan rog |

The disease of your ego shall be eradicated.

ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

toon gur prasaad kar raaj jog |1|

By Guru's Grace, practice Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥

har ras jin jan chaakhiaa |

Those who taste the sublime essence of the Lord

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥੀਆ ॥੨॥

taa kee trisanaa laatheea |2|

have their thirst quenched. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

har bisraam nidh paaeaa |

Those who have found the Lord, the Treasure of peace,

ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਤ ਹੀ ਧਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

so bahur na kat hee dhaaeaa |3|

shall not go anywhere else again. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥

har har naam jaa kau gur deea |

Those, unto whom the Guru has given the Lord's Name, Har, Har

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੪੬॥

naanak taa kaa bhau geaa |4|8|146|

- O Nanak, their fears are removed. ||4||8||146||
