jais jagat mo karaa pasaaraa |
Now I describe the incarnation Ram how he exhibited his performance in the world.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਾਲ ਬੀਤਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਬੈ ॥
bahut kaal beetat bhayo jabai |
ਅਸੁਰਨ ਬੰਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਯੋ ਤਬੈ ॥੧॥
asuran bans pragatt bhayo tabai |1|
After a long time the family of demons raised its head again.1.
ਅਸੁਰ ਲਗੇ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਖਾਧਾ ॥
asur lage bahu karai bikhaadhaa |
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਤਿਨੈ ਤਨਕ ਮੈ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
kinahoon na tinai tanak mai saadhaa |
The demons began to perform vicious actions and no one could chastise them.
ਸਕਲ ਦੇਵ ਇਕਠੇ ਤਬ ਭਏ ॥
sakal dev ikatthe tab bhe |
ਛੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਜਹ ਥੋ ਤਿਹ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
chheer samundr jeh tho tih ge |2|
The all the gods assembled and went to the milk-ocean.2.
ਬਹੁ ਚਿਰ ਬਸਤ ਭਏ ਤਿਹ ਠਾਮਾ ॥
bahu chir basat bhe tih tthaamaa |
ਬਿਸਨ ਸਹਿਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
bisan sahit brahamaa jih naamaa |
There they stayed foe a long time with Vishnu and Brahma.
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੁਖਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਤ ॥
baar baar hee dukhat pukaarat |
ਕਾਨ ਪਰੀ ਕਲ ਕੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਰਤ ॥੩॥
kaan paree kal ke dhun aarat |3|
They cried out in anguish many times and ultimately their consternation was heard by the Lord.3.

ਬਿਸਨਾਦਕ ਦੇਵ ਲੇਖ ਬਿਮਨੰ ॥

ਮ੍ਰਿਦ ਹਾਸ ਕਰੀ ਕਰ ਕਾਲ ਧੁਨੰ ॥
mrid haas karee kar kaal dhunan |
When the Immanent Lord saw the air-vehicle of Vishnu and other gods, He raised a sound and smiled and addressed Vishnu-thus :
ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਰੋ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਹਰੰ ॥
avataar dharo raghunaath haran |
ਚਿਰ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੋ ਸੁਖ ਸੋ ਅਵਧੰ ॥੪॥
chir raaj karo sukh so avadhan |4|
“Manifest yourself as Raghunath (Ram) and rule over Oudh for a long time.”4.
ਬਿਸਨੇਸ ਧੁਣੰ ਸੁਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੁਖੰ ॥
bisanes dhunan sun braham mukhan |
ਅਬ ਸੁਧ ਚਲੀ ਰਘੁਬੰਸ ਕਥੰ ॥
ab sudh chalee raghubans kathan |
Vishnu heard this command from the mouth of the Lord (and did as ordered). Now begins the story of Raghu clan.
ਜੁ ਪੈ ਛੋਰ ਕਥਾ ਕਵਿ ਯਾਹ ਰਢੈ ॥
ju pai chhor kathaa kav yaah radtai |
ਇਨ ਬਾਤਨ ਕੋ ਇਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਬਢੈ ॥੫॥
ein baatan ko ik granth badtai |5|
It the poet describe with all the nattation.5.
ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਕਹੀ ਥੋਰੀਐ ਬੀਨ ਕਥਾ ॥
tih te kahee thoreeai been kathaa |
ਬਲਿ ਤ੍ਵੈ ਉਪਜੀ ਬੁਧ ਮਧਿ ਜਥਾ ॥
bal tvai upajee budh madh jathaa |
Therefore, O Lord! I compose in brief this significant story according to the intellect given to me by thee.
ਜਹ ਭੂਲਿ ਭਈ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਲਹੀਯੋ ॥
jeh bhool bhee ham te laheeyo |
ਸੁ ਕਬੋ ਤਹ ਅਛ੍ਰ ਬਨਾ ਕਹੀਯੋ ॥੬॥
su kabo teh achhr banaa kaheeyo |6|
If there is any lapses on part, for that I am answerable, therefore, O Lord! Grant me strength to compose this poem in appropriate language.6.
ਰਘੁ ਰਾਜ ਭਯੋ ਰਘੁ ਬੰਸ ਮਣੰ ॥
ragh raaj bhayo ragh bans manan |
ਜਿਹ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਯੋ ਪੁਰ ਅਉਧ ਘਣੰ ॥
jih raaj karayo pur aaudh ghanan |
The king Raghu looked very impressive as a gem in the necklace of raghu clan. He ruled over Oudh for a long time.
ਸੋਊ ਕਾਲ ਜਿਣਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਜ ਜਬੰ ॥
soaoo kaal jinayo nriparaaj jaban |
ਭੂਅ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਯੋ ਅਜ ਰਾਜ ਤਬੰ ॥੭॥
bhooa raaj karayo aj raaj taban |7|
When the Death (KAL) ultimately brought his end, then the king Aj ruled over the earth.7.
ਅਜ ਰਾਜ ਹਣਯੋ ਜਬ ਕਾਲ ਬਲੀ ॥
aj raaj hanayo jab kaal balee |
ਸੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਕਥਾ ਦਸਰਥ ਚਲੀ ॥
su nripat kathaa dasarath chalee |
When the king Aj was destroyed by the mighty destroyer Lord, then the story of Raghu clan moved forward through king Dasrath.
ਚਿਰ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੋ ਸੁਖ ਸੋਂ ਅਵਧੰ ॥
chir raaj karo sukh son avadhan |
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮਾਰ ਬਿਹਾਰ ਬਣੰ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥੮॥
mrig maar bihaar banan su prabhan |8|
He also ruled over Oudh with comfort and passed his comfortable days in the forest killing the deer.8.
ਜਗ ਧਰਮ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਚੁਰੀ ਤਬ ਤੇ ॥
jag dharam kathaa prachuree tab te |
ਸੁਮਿਤ੍ਰੇਸ ਮਹੀਪ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਤੇ ॥
sumitres maheep bhayo jab te |
The Dharma of sacrifice was extensively propagated, when Dasrath, the Lord of Sumitra became the king.
ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਬਨੈਸਨ ਬੀਚ ਫਿਰੈ ॥
din rain banaisan beech firai |
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਨੇਤ ਹਰੈ ॥੯॥
mrig raaj karee mrig net harai |9|
The king moved in the forest day and night and hunted the tigers, elephants and deer.9.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਥਾ ਉਹ ਠੌਰ ਭਈ ॥
eih bhaat kathaa uh tthauar bhee |
ਅਬ ਰਾਮ ਜਯਾ ਪਰ ਬਾਤ ਗਈ ॥
ab raam jayaa par baat gee |
In this way, the story advanced in Oudh and now the part of the mother of Ram comes before us.
ਕੁਹੜਾਮ ਜਹਾ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਸਹਰੰ ॥
kuharraam jahaa suneeai saharan |
ਤਹ ਕੌਸਲ ਰਾਜ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੇਸ ਬਰੰ ॥੧੦॥

There was a brave king in the city of Kuhram, which was known as the kingdom of Kaushal.10.
ਉਪਜੀ ਤਹ ਧਾਮ ਸੁਤਾ ਕੁਸਲੰ ॥
aupajee teh dhaam sutaa kusalan |
ਜਿਹ ਜੀਤ ਲਈ ਸਸਿ ਅੰਗ ਕਲੰ ॥
jih jeet lee sas ang kalan |
In his home was born an extremely beautiful daughter Kaushalya, who conquered all the beauty of the moon.
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਪਾਇ ਸੁਯੰਬ੍ਰ ਕਰਿਓ ॥
jab hee sudh paae suyanbr kario |
ਅਵਧੇਸ ਨਰੇਸਹਿ ਚੀਨ ਬਰਿਓ ॥੧੧॥
avadhes nareseh cheen bario |11|
When she grew of age, she selected Dasrath, the king of Oudh, in the ceremony of swayyamvara and married him.11.
ਪੁਨਿ ਸੈਨ ਸਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਰੇਸ ਬਰੰ ॥
pun sain samitr nares baran |
ਜਿਹ ਜੁਧ ਲਯੋ ਮਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਹਰੰ ॥
jih judh layo madr des haran |
The mighty and glorious king Sumitra, was the conqueror of Madra Desha.
ਸੁਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਤਿਹ ਧਾਮ ਭਈ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ॥
sumitraa tih dhaam bhee duhitaa |
ਜਿਹ ਜੀਤ ਲਈ ਸਸ ਸੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ॥੧੨॥
jih jeet lee sas soor prabhaa |12|
He had a daughter named Sumitra in his home. That virgin was so winsome and radiant that she seemed to have conquered the luster of the sun and moon.12.
ਸੋਊ ਬਾਰਿ ਸਬੁਧ ਭਈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
soaoo baar sabudh bhee jab hee |
ਅਵਧੇਸਹ ਚੀਨ ਬਰਿਓ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥
avadhesah cheen bario tab hee |
When she grew of age, she also married the king of Oudh.
ਗਨ ਯਾਹ ਭਯੋ ਕਸਟੁਆਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ॥
gan yaah bhayo kasattuaar nripan |
ਜਿਹ ਕੇਕਈ ਧਾਮ ਸੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥੧੩॥
jih kekee dhaam su taas prabhan |13|
The same thin happened with the king of Kaikeya, who had glorious daughter named Kaiky.13.
ਇਨ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਹ ਮੋ ਸੁਤ ਜਉਨ ਥੀਓ ॥
ein te grah mo sut jaun theeo |
ਤਬ ਬੈਠ ਨਰੇਸ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਓ ॥
tab baitth nares bichaar keeo |
The king reflected (in his mind) about the son to be born to his daughter.
ਤਬ ਕੇਕਈ ਨਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੀ ॥
tab kekee naar bichaar karee |
ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਸਸਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਸੋਭ ਧਰੀ ॥੧੪॥
jih te sas sooraj sobh dharee |14|
Kaikeyi also thoutht about it, she was extremely beautiful like the sun and moon.14.
ਤਿਹ ਬਯਾਹਤ ਮਾਗ ਲਏ ਦੁ ਬਰੰ ॥
tih bayaahat maag le du baran |
ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਅਵਧੇਸ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਰੰ ॥
jih te avadhes ke praan haran |
On being married she asked for two boons from the king, which ultimately resulted in his death.
ਸਮਝੀ ਨ ਨਰੇਸਰ ਬਾਤ ਹੀਏ ॥
samajhee na naresar baat hee |
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਹ ਕੋ ਬਰ ਦੋਇ ਦੀਏ ॥੧੫॥
tab hee teh ko bar doe dee |15|
At that time, the king could not understand the mystery (of the boons) and gave his consent for them.15.
ਪੁਨ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵਨ ਜੁਧ ਪਰੋ ॥
pun dev adevan judh paro |
ਜਹ ਜੁਧ ਘਣੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਆਪ ਕਰੋ ॥
jeh judh ghano nrip aap karo |
Then once a war was waged between the gods and demons, in which the king gave a tough fight from the side of gods.
ਹਤ ਸਾਰਥੀ ਸਯੰਦਨ ਨਾਰ ਹਕਿਯੋ ॥
hat saarathee sayandan naar hakiyo |
ਯਹ ਕੌਤਕ ਦੇਖ ਨਰੇਸ ਚਕਿਯੋ ॥੧੬॥
yeh kauatak dekh nares chakiyo |16|
Then once war charioteer of the king was killed, and instead kaikeyi drave the chariot on seeing this, the king was nonplussed.16.
ਪੁਨ ਰੀਝ ਦਏ ਦੋਊ ਤੀਅ ਬਰੰ ॥
pun reejh de doaoo teea baran |
ਚਿਤ ਮੋ ਸੁ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਕਰੰ ॥
chit mo su bichaar kachhoo na karan |
The king was pleased and gave other two boons, he did not have any distrust in his mind.
ਕਹੀ ਨਾਟਕ ਮਧ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਥਾ ॥
kahee naattak madh charitr kathaa |
ਜਯ ਦੀਨ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਨਰੇਸ ਜਥਾ ॥੧੭॥
jay deen sures nares jathaa |17|
How the king co-operated for the victory of Indra, the king of gods, this story has been told in the drama.17.
ਅਰਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿਧੰ ॥
ar jeet anek anek bidhan |
ਸਭ ਕਾਜ ਨਰੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੀਨ ਸਿਧੰ ॥
sabh kaaj naresvar keen sidhan |
The king fulfilled his heart’s desires by conquering many enemies.
ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਬਿਹਾਰਤ ਮਧਿ ਬਣੰ ॥
din rain bihaarat madh banan |
ਜਲ ਲੈਨ ਦਿਜਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੰ ॥੧੮॥
jal lain dijaae tahaa sravanan |18|
He passed his time mostly in the forsrts. Once a Brahmin named Sharvan Kumar was roaming there in search of water.18.
ਪਿਤ ਮਾਤ ਤਜੇ ਦੋਊ ਅੰਧ ਭੂਯੰ ॥
pit maat taje doaoo andh bhooyan |
ਗਹਿ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਜਲੁ ਲੈਨ ਸੁਯੰ ॥
geh paatr chaliyo jal lain suyan |
Leaving his blind parents at some spot, the son had come for water, holding the pitcher in his hand.
ਮੁਨਿ ਨੋ ਦਿਤ ਕਾਲ ਸਿਧਾਰ ਤਹਾ ॥
mun no dit kaal sidhaar tahaa |
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੈਠ ਪਤਊਵਨ ਬਾਧ ਜਹਾ ॥੧੯॥
nrip baitth ptaoovan baadh jahaa |19|
That Brahmin sage was sent there by death, where the king was rresting in a tent.19.
ਭਭਕੰਤ ਘਟੰ ਅਤਿ ਨਾਦਿ ਹੁਅੰ ॥
bhabhakant ghattan at naad huan |
ਧੁਨਿ ਕਾਨ ਪਰੀ ਅਜ ਰਾਜ ਸੁਅੰ ॥
dhun kaan paree aj raaj suan |
There was sound of filling the pitcher with water, which was heard by the king.
ਗਹਿ ਪਾਣ ਸੁ ਬਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਨ ਧਨੰ ॥
geh paan su baaneh taan dhanan |
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਜਾਣ ਦਿਜੰ ਸਰ ਸੁਧ ਹਨੰ ॥੨੦॥
mrig jaan dijan sar sudh hanan |20|
The king fitted the arrow in the bow and pulled it and considering the Brahmin as a deer, he shot the arrow on him and killed him.20.
ਗਿਰ ਗਯੋ ਸੁ ਲਗੇ ਸਰ ਸੁਧ ਮੁਨੰ ॥
gir gayo su lage sar sudh munan |
ਨਿਸਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਹਹਕਾਰ ਧੁਨੰ ॥
nisaree mukh te hahakaar dhunan |
On being struck by the arrow, the ascetic fell down and there was sound of lamentation from his mouth.
ਮ੍ਰਿਗਨਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਇ ਲਹੈ ॥
mriganaat kahaa nrip jaae lahai |
ਦਿਜ ਦੇਖ ਦੋਊ ਕਰ ਦਾਤ ਗਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
dij dekh doaoo kar daat gahai |21|
For seeing the spot, where the deer had died, the king went there, but on seeing that Brahmin, he pressed his finger under his teeth in distress.21.

ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ॥
jeevan padavee har ke daas |
The Lord's slaves attain the highest status of life.
ਜਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
jin miliaa aatam paragaas |1|
Meeting them, the soul is enlightened. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਕਾਨੀ ॥
har kaa simaran sun man kaanee |
Those who listen with their mind and ears to the Lord's meditative remembrance,
ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukh paaveh har duaar paraanee |1| rahaau |
are blessed with peace at the Lord's Gate, O mortal. ||1||Pause||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ॥
aatth pehar dhiaaeeai gopaal |
Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on the Sustainer of the World.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੧॥੧੭੦॥
naanak darasan dekh nihaal |2|101|170|
O Nanak, gazing on the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am enraptured. ||2||101||170||

Peace and tranquility have come; the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, has brought it.
ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taap paap binase mere bhaaee |1| rahaau |
The burning sins have departed, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਬਖਾਨ ॥
raam naam nit rasan bakhaan |
With your tongue, continually chant the Lord's Name.
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਕਲਿਆਨ ॥੧॥
binase rog bhe kaliaan |1|
Disease shall depart, and you shall be saved. ||1||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਅਗਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
paarabraham gun agam beechaar |
Contemplate the Glorious Virtues of the Unfathomable Supreme Lord God.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
saadhoo sangam hai nisataar |2|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be emancipated. ||2||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥
niramal gun gaavahu nit neet |
Sing the Glories of God each and every day;
ਗਈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਨ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥
gee biaadh ubare jan meet |3|
your afflictions shall be dispelled, and you shall be saved, my humble friend. ||3||
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
man bach kram prabh apanaa dhiaaee |
In thought, word and deed, I meditate on my God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦੨॥੧੭੧॥

Doubt has been dispelled; my service has been successful. ||1||Pause||
ਸੀਤਲਾ ਤੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

The Giver of joy has saved him from smallpox.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
paarabraham prabh kirapaa dhaaree |1|
The Supreme Lord God has granted His Grace. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਸੋ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
naanak naam japai so jeevai |
O Nanak, he alone lives, who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, drink deeply of the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar. ||2||103||172||

ਧਨੁ ਓਹੁ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੇਤ ॥
dhan ohu masatak dhan tere net |
Blessed is that forehead, and blessed are those eyes;
ਧਨੁ ਓਇ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥੧॥
dhan oe bhagat jin tum sang het |1|
blessed are those devotees who are in love with You. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
naam binaa kaise sukh laheeai |
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how anyone find peace?
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasanaa raam naam jas kaheeai |1| rahaau |
With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਤਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
tin aoopar jaaeeai kurabaan |
Nanak is a sacrifice to those
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੪॥੧੭੩॥
naanak jin japiaa nirabaan |2|104|173|
who meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa. ||2||104||173||

ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
toonhai masalat toonhai naal |
You are my Advisor; You are always with me.
ਤੂਹੈ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
toohai raakheh saar samaal |1|
You preserve, protect and care for me. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
aisaa raam deen dunee sahaaee |
Such is the Lord, our Help and Support in this world and the next.
ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
daas kee paij rakhai mere bhaaee |1| rahaau |
He protects the honor of His slave, O my Sibling of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਆਗੈ ਆਪਿ ਇਹੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
aagai aap ihu thaan vas jaa kai |
He alone exists hereafter; this place is in His Power.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥
aatth pehar man har kau jaapai |2|
Twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, chant and meditate on the Lord. ||2||
ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
pat paravaan sach neesaan |
His honor is acknowledged, and he bears the True Insignia;
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jaa kau aap kareh furamaan |3|
the Lord Himself issues His Royal Command. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
aape daataa aap pratipaal |
He Himself is the Giver; He Himself is the Cherisher.
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦੫॥੧੭੪॥
nit nit naanak raam naam samaal |4|105|174|
Continually, continuously, O Nanak, dwell upon the Name of the Lord. ||4||105||174||

When the Perfect True Guru becomes merciful,
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਪਾਲੁ ॥੧॥
hiradai vasiaa sadaa gupaal |1|
the Lord of the World abides in the heart forever. ||1||
ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
raam ravat sad hee sukh paaeaa |
Meditating on the Lord, I have found eternal peace.
ਮਇਆ ਕਰੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
meaa karee pooran har raaeaa |1| rahaau |
The Sovereign Lord, the Perfect King, has shown His Mercy to me. ||1||Pause||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ॥
kahu naanak jaa ke poore bhaag |
Says Nanak, one whose destiny is perfect,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੬॥
har har naam asathir sohaag |2|106|
meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Everlasting Husband. ||2||106||
