ਰੋਗ ਰਹਤ ਕਰ ਅਉਖਧੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
rog rehat kar aaukhadhee sabh hee kariyo jahaan |
Administering the medicines to all the world, he made the world devoid of ailments,
ਕਾਲ ਪਾਇ ਤਛਕ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੬॥
kaal paae tachhak haniyo sur pur keeyo payaan |6|
And departed for heaven after having been stung by Takshak (the king of snakes).6.

The might of demos, the sons of Diti, increased very much and they conquered many enemies in water and on land.
ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਆਗਯਾ ਪਾਈ ॥

ਰਵਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਈ ॥੧॥

Receiving the command of the Immanent Lord, Vishnu manifested himself as Suraj incarnation.1.
ਜੇ ਜੇ ਹੋਤ ਅਸੁਰ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥

ਰਵਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਾ ॥

Wherever the demons become Lord, Vishnu manifested himself as Suraj incarnation kills them in different ways.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਧਰਨੀ ਤੇ ਹਰੇ ॥
andhakaar dharanee te hare |
ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਕਾਜ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੨॥

The sun destroyed the darkness from the earth and in order to give comfort to the subjects, he used to roam hither and thither.2.

NARAAJ STANZA
ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਆਲਸੰ ਸਭੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਲੋਗ ਜਾਗਹੀਂ ॥
bisaar aalasan sabhai prabhaat log jaagaheen |
ਅਨੰਤ ਜਾਪ ਕੋ ਜਪੈਂ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਧਯਾਨ ਪਾਗਹੀਂ ॥
anant jaap ko japain biant dhayaan paagaheen |
(Seeing the Sun,) all the people abandoned idleness and woke up at dawn and meditating on the Omnipresent Lord, used to repeat His Name in various ways.
ਦੁਰੰਤ ਕਰਮ ਕੋ ਕਰੈਂ ਅਥਾਪ ਥਾਪ ਥਾਪਹੀਂ ॥
durant karam ko karain athaap thaap thaapaheen |
ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੰਧਿਯਾਨ ਕੈ ਅਜਾਪ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪਹੀ ॥੩॥
gaaeitree sandhiyaan kai ajaap jaap jaapahee |3|
Working on difficult jobs, they used to stablise in their mind the Uninstallable Lord and used to recite the Gyatri and Sandhya.3.
ਸੁ ਦੇਵ ਕਰਮ ਆਦਿ ਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਜਾਗ ਕੈ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su dev karam aad lai prabhaat jaag kai karain |
ਸੁ ਜਗ ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਹੋਮ ਬੇਦ ਬਿਯਾਕਰਨ ਰਰੈਂ ॥
su jag dhoop deep hom bed biyaakaran rarain |
All the people, repeating the name of the Lord, used to perform godly deeds and also reflected on the Vedas and Vyakarna etc. alongwith the burning of incense, lighting the earthen lamps and performing Yajnas.
ਸੁ ਪਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਮ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਤੇ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਤਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੋ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su pitr karam hain jite so britabrit ko karain |
ਜੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਉਚਰੰਤ ਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਧਯਾਨ ਕੋ ਧਰੈਂ ॥੪॥
ju saasatr simrit ucharant su dharam dhayaan ko dharain |4|
They used to perform rituals for the manes according to their power and used to concentrate on virtuous actions alongwith the recitation of Shastras, Smritis etc.4.

ਸੁ ਧੂੰਮ ਧੂੰਮ ਹੀ ॥

The smoke of Yajnas was visible on all the four sides and all the people slept on the earth.
ਬਿਅੰਤ ਧਯਾਨ ਧਯਾਵਹੀਂ ॥
biant dhayaan dhayaavaheen |
ਦੁਰੰਤ ਠਉਰ ਪਾਵਹੀਂ ॥੫॥

Performing mediation and worship in many ways, they used to work for the growth of distant places.5.
ਅਨੰਤ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਰੈਂ ॥

ਸੁ ਜੋਗ ਜਾਪਨਾ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su jog jaapanaa karain |
Reciting many mantras, the people performed Yogic discipline and repeated the Name.
ਨ੍ਰਿਬਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਧਯਾਵਹੀਂ ॥
nribaan purakh dhayaavaheen |
ਬਿਮਾਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੀਂ ॥੬॥
bimaan ant paavaheen |6|
They meditated on the Detached Supreme Purusha and ultimately they acquired the air-vehicles for transportation to heaven.6.

ਬਹੁਤ ਕਾਲ ਇਮ ਬੀਤਯੋ ਕਰਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰੁ ਦਾਨ ॥

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਸੁਰਿ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਦੀਰਘੁ ਕਾਇ ਦਤੁ ਮਾਨ ॥੭॥
bahur asur badtiyo prabal deeragh kaae dat maan |7|
In this way a good deal of time elapsed in performing religious and charitable actions and then a powerful demon named deeraghkaya was born.7.

nis din ghaat karat dij devan |
His body increased in length everyday by the length of an arrow and he destroyed the gods and twice-born night and day.
ਦੀਰਘੁ ਕਾਇਐ ਸੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਭਯੋ ॥
deeragh kaaeiai so rip bhayo |
ਰਵਿ ਰਥ ਹਟਕ ਚਲਨ ਤੇ ਗਯੋ ॥੮॥
rav rath hattak chalan te gayo |8|
On the birth of the enemy like deeraghkaya, even the chariot of the sun hesitated to move.8.

ਹਟਕ ਚਲਤ ਰਥੁ ਭਯੋ ਭਾਨ ਕੋਪਿਯੋ ਤਬੈ ॥
hattak chalat rath bhayo bhaan kopiyo tabai |
ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਸਭੈ ॥
asatr sasatr lai chaliyo sang lai dal sabhai |
When the chariot of the sun stopped moving, the sun, then in great fury, marched forward alongwith his arms, weapons and forces.
ਮੰਡਯੋ ਬਿਬਿਧ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਤਹਾ ਰਣ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
manddayo bibidh prakaar tahaa ran jaae kai |
ਹੋ ਨਿਰਖ ਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੈਤ ਰਹੇ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੯॥
ho nirakh dev ar dait rahe urajhaae kai |9|
He started various types of war seeing which both gods and demons, experienced a dilemma.9.
ਗਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਪਾਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਦੁਬਹੀਯਾ ਰਣ ਭਿਰੇ ॥
geh geh paan kripaan dubaheeyaa ran bhire |
ਟੂਕ ਟੂਕ ਹੁਐ ਗਿਰੇ ਨ ਪਗ ਪਾਛੇ ਫਿਰੇ ॥

Holding their swords in their hands, the warriors of both the side, fought with one another in the battlefield. They fell, having been chopped into bits, but still they did not retrace their steps.
ਅੰਗਨਿ ਸੋਭੇ ਘਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਬਢੇ ॥
angan sobhe ghaae prabhaa at hee badte |
ਹੋ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਮਨੋ ਛਿਟਕਾਇ ਜਨੇਤੀ ਸੇ ਚਢੇ ॥੧੦॥
ho basatr mano chhittakaae janetee se chadte |10|
Having been wounded, their increased still further and they appeared like the members of the marriage party walking and exhibiting their dressers.10.

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਪੈਨੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
jis kaa deea painai khaae |
They wear and eat the gifts from the Lord;
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਆਲਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਬਨੈ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
tis siau aalas kiau banai maae |1|
how can laziness help them, O mother? ||1||
ਖਸਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਆਨ ਕੰਮਿ ਲਾਗਹਿ ॥
khasam bisaar aan kam laageh |
Forgetting her Husband Lord, and attaching herself to other affairs,
ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੇ ਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kauddee badale ratan tiaageh |1| rahaau |
the soul-bride throws away the precious jewel in exchange for a mere shell. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਲਾਗਤ ਅਨ ਲੋਭਾ ॥
prabhoo tiaag laagat an lobhaa |
Forsaking God, she is attached to other desires.
ਦਾਸਿ ਸਲਾਮੁ ਕਰਤ ਕਤ ਸੋਭਾ ॥੨॥
daas salaam karat kat sobhaa |2|
But who has gained honor by saluting the slave? ||2||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਖਾਨ ਪਾਨ ॥
amrit ras khaaveh khaan paan |
They consume food and drink, delicious and sublime as ambrosial nectar.
ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਸੁਆਨ ॥੩॥
jin dee tiseh na jaaneh suaan |3|
But the dog does not know the One who has bestowed these. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ॥
kahu naanak ham loon haraamee |
Says Nanak, I have been unfaithful to my own nature.
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੭੬॥੧੪੫॥
bakhas lehu prabh antarajaamee |4|76|145|
Please forgive me, O God, O Searcher of hearts. ||4||76||145||

I meditate on the Feet of God within my mind.
ਸਗਲ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
sagal teerath majan isanaan |1|
This is my cleansing bath at all the sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
har din har simaran mere bhaaee |
Meditate in remembrance on the Lord every day, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kott janam kee mal leh jaaee |1| rahaau |
Thus, the filth of millions of incarnations shall be taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
har kee kathaa rid maeh basaaee |
Enshrine the Lord's Sermon within your heart,
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
man baanchhat sagale fal paaee |2|
and you shall obtain all the desires of your mind. ||2||
ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਣੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
jeevan maran janam paravaan |
Redeemed is the life, death and birth of those,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jaa kai ridai vasai bhagavaan |3|
within whose hearts the Lord God abides. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
kahu naanak seee jan poore |
Says Nanak, those humble beings are perfect,
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੭੭॥੧੪੬॥
jinaa paraapat saadhoo dhoore |4|77|146|
who are blessed with the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||77||146||

ਖਾਦਾ ਪੈਨਦਾ ਮੂਕਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

They eat and wear what they are given, but still, they deny the Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਦੂਤ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
tis no joheh doot dharam raae |1|
The messengers of the Righteous Judge of Dharma shall hunt them down. ||1||
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਬੇਮੁਖੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
tis siau bemukh jin jeeo pindd deenaa |
They are unfaithful to the One, who has given them body and soul.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਜੂਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kott janam bharameh bahu joonaa |1| rahaau |
Through millions of incarnations, for so many lifetimes, they wander lost. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
saakat kee aisee hai reet |
Such is the lifestyle of the faithless cynics;
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
jo kichh karai sagal bipareet |2|
everything they do is evil. ||2||
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
jeeo praan jin man tan dhaariaa |
Within their minds, they have forgotten that Lord and Master,
ਸੋਈ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
soee tthaakur manahu bisaariaa |3|
Who created the soul, breath of life, mind and body. ||3||
ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਲਿਖੇ ਬਹੁ ਕਾਗਰ ॥
badhe bikaar likhe bahu kaagar |
Their wickedness and corruption have increased - they are recorded in volumes of books.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ॥੪॥
naanak udhar kripaa sukh saagar |4|
O Nanak, they are saved only by the Mercy of God, the Ocean of peace. ||4||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥

O Supreme Lord God, I have come to Your Sanctuary.
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਤਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੭੮॥੧੪੭॥

Break my bonds, and carry me across, with the Lord's Name. ||1||Second Pause||78||147||

ਅਪਨੇ ਲੋਭ ਕਉ ਕੀਨੋ ਮੀਤੁ ॥

For their own advantage, they make God their friend.
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦੁ ਦੀਤੁ ॥੧॥
sagal manorath mukat pad deet |1|
He fulfills all their desires, and blesses them with the state of liberation. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
aisaa meet karahu sabh koe |
Everyone should make Him such a friend.
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa te birathaa koe na hoe |1| rahaau |
No one goes away empty-handed from Him. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪੁਨੈ ਸੁਆਇ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
apunai suaae ridai lai dhaariaa |
For their own purposes, they enshrine the Lord in the heart;
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਰੋਗ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ॥੨॥
dookh darad rog sagal bidaariaa |2|
all pain, suffering and disease are taken away. ||2||
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੀਧੀ ਬੋਲਤ ਰਾਮ ॥
rasanaa geedhee bolat raam |
Their tongues learn the habit of chanting the Lord's Name,
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਮ ॥੩॥
pooran hoe sagale kaam |3|
and all their works are brought to perfection. ||3||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
anik baar naanak balihaaraa |
So many times, Nanak is a sacrifice to Him;
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੭੯॥੧੪੮॥
safal darasan gobind hamaaraa |4|79|148|
fruitful is the Blessed Vision, the Darshan, of my Lord of the Universe. ||4||79||148||

Millions of obstacles are removed in an instant,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
har har kathaa saadhasang sunaeh |1|
for those who listen to the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਪੀਵਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਸੁ ॥
peevat raam ras amrit gun jaas |
They drink in the sublime essence of the Lord's Name, the Ambrosial Elixir.
ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਮਿਟੀ ਖੁਧਿ ਤਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jap har charan mittee khudh taas |1| rahaau |
Meditating on the Lord's Feet, hunger is taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
sarab kaliaan sukh sehaj nidhaan |
The treasure of all happiness, celestial peace and poise,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਹਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੨॥
jaa kai ridai vaseh bhagavaan |2|
are obtained by those, whose hearts are filled with the Lord God. ||2||
ਅਉਖਧ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
aaukhadh mantr tant sabh chhaar |
All medicines and remedies, mantras and tantras are nothing more than ashes.
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
karanaihaar ride meh dhaar |3|
Enshrine the Creator Lord within your heart. ||3||
ਤਜਿ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਜਿਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
taj sabh bharam bhajio paarabraham |
Renounce all your doubts, and vibrate upon the Supreme Lord God.
