BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਮਹਾ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਆਪ ਭੂਪੰ ॥
mahaa sasatr dhaare chaliyo aap bhoopan |
ਲਏ ਸਰਬ ਸੈਨਾ ਕੀਏ ਆਪ ਰੂਪੰ ॥
le sarab sainaa kee aap roopan |
Wearing his important weapons, the king himself, taking the mighty warriors with him, marched forward to wage the war.
ਅਨੰਤ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਛੋਰੇ ਭਯੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਾਨੰ ॥
anant asatr chhore bhayo judh maanan |
ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਕਾਲ ਮਾਨੋ ਸਭੈ ਰਸਮਿ ਭਾਨੰ ॥੨੭॥
prabhaa kaal maano sabhai rasam bhaanan |27|
Forsaking his innumerable weapons, he waged a terrible war. The king himself seemed like the rising sun at dawn.27.
ਭੁਜਾ ਠੋਕਿ ਭੂਪੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਐਸੇ ॥
bhujaa tthok bhoopan keeyo judh aise |
ਮਨੋ ਬੀਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਸੁਰੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥
mano beer britaraasure indr jaise |
Patting his arms, the king firmly waged the war, like the war waged by Vrittasura with Indra
ਸਬੈ ਕਾਟ ਰਾਮੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਬਾਹਿ ਹੀਨੰ ॥
sabai kaatt raaman keeyo baeh heenan |
ਹਤੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੈਨਾ ਭਯੋ ਗਰਬ ਛੀਨੰ ॥੨੮॥
hatee sarab sainaa bhayo garab chheenan |28|
Parashurama made him armless by chopping away all his arms, and shattered his pride by destroying all his army.28.
ਗਹਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਪਾਣੰ ਕੁਠਾਰੰ ਕਰਾਲੰ ॥
gahiyo raam paanan kutthaaran karaalan |
ਕਟੀ ਸੁੰਡ ਸੀ ਰਾਜਿ ਬਾਹੰ ਬਿਸਾਲੰ ॥
kattee sundd see raaj baahan bisaalan |
Parashurama held up his dreadful axe in his hand and chopped the arm of king like the trunk of the elephant.
ਭਏ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ਕਰੰ ਕਾਲ ਹੀਣੰ ॥
bhe ang bhangan karan kaal heenan |
ਗਯੋ ਗਰਬ ਸਰਬੰ ਭਈ ਸੈਣ ਛੀਣੰ ॥੨੯॥
gayo garab saraban bhee sain chheenan |29|
In this way becoming limbless, the whole army of the king was destroyed and his ego was shattered.29.
ਰਹਿਯੋ ਅੰਤ ਖੇਤੰ ਅਚੇਤੰ ਨਰੇਸੰ ॥
rahiyo ant khetan achetan naresan |
ਬਚੇ ਬੀਰ ਜੇਤੇ ਗਏ ਭਾਜ ਦੇਸੰ ॥
bache beer jete ge bhaaj desan |
Ultimatley, becoming unconscious the king fell down in the battlefield, and all his warriors, who remained alive, fled away to their own countries.
ਲਈ ਛੀਨ ਛਉਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਛਤ੍ਰਿ ਘਾਤੰ ॥
lee chheen chhaunee karai chhatr ghaatan |
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਤੰ ॥੩੦॥
chirankaal poojaa karee lok maatan |30|
Parashurama seized his capital and destroyed the Kshatriyas and for a long time, the people worshipped him.30.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਲਈ ਛੀਨ ਛਉਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਪ ਭੂਪੰ ॥
lee chheen chhaunee karai bip bhoopan |
ਹਰੀ ਫੇਰਿ ਛਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਦਿਜੰ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੂਪੰ ॥
haree fer chhatrin dijan jeet joopan |
After seizing the capital, Parashurama made a Brahmin the king, but again the Kshatriyas, conquering all the Brahmins, snatched their city.
ਦਿਜੰ ਆਰਤੰ ਤੀਰ ਰਾਮੰ ਪੁਕਾਰੰ ॥
dijan aaratan teer raaman pukaaran |
ਚਲਿਯੋ ਰੋਸ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਲੀਨੇ ਕੁਠਾਰੰ ॥੩੧॥
chaliyo ros sree raam leene kutthaaran |31|
The Brahmin, in great agony called Parashurama, who, holding his axe, moved with great fury.31.
ਸੁਨ︀ਯੋ ਸਰਬ ਭੂਪੰ ਹਠੀ ਰਾਮ ਆਏ ॥
sunayo sarab bhoopan hatthee raam aae |
ਸਭੰ ਜੁਧੁ ਕੋ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
sabhan judh ko sasatr asatran banaae |
When all the kings heard that taking a vow of killing Kshatriyas, the persistent Parashurama had arrived, then all of them prepared for war, taking all their weapons.
ਚੜੇ ਚਉਪ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਕੀਏ ਜੁਧ ਐਸੇ ॥
charre chaup kai kai kee judh aise |
ਮਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਸੋ ਰਾਵਣੰ ਲੰਕ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੩੨॥
mano raam so raavanan lank jaise |32|
In great ire, all of them came to wage the war like Rana and Ravana in Sri Lanka.32.
ਲਗੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਲਖੇ ਰਾਮ ਅੰਗੰ ॥
lage sasatran asatran lakhe raam angan |
ਗਹੇ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਕੀਏ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਭੰਗੰ ॥
gahe baan paanan kee satr bhangan |
When Parashurama saw that he was being attacked with arms and weapons, then he took the arrows in hand and killed his enemies
ਭੁਜਾ ਹੀਣ ਏਕੰ ਸਿਰੰ ਹੀਣ ਕੇਤੇ ॥
bhujaa heen ekan siran heen kete |
ਸਬੈ ਮਾਰ ਡਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਬੀਰ ਜੇਤੇ ॥੩੩॥
sabai maar ddaare ge beer jete |33|
Many warriors became armless and many became headless. All those warriors who went in front of Parashurama, he killed all of the,.33.
ਕਰੀ ਛਤ੍ਰਹੀਣ ਛਿਤੰ ਕੀਸ ਬਾਰੰ ॥
karee chhatraheen chhitan kees baaran |
ਹਣੇ ਐਸ ਹੀ ਭੂਪ ਸਰਬੰ ਸੁਧਾਰੰ ॥
hane ais hee bhoop saraban sudhaaran |
He caused the earth to become without Kshatriyas for twenty-one times and in this way, he destroyed all the kings and their base
ਕਥਾ ਸਰਬ ਜਉ ਛੋਰ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਸੁਨਾਉ ॥
kathaa sarab jau chhor te lai sunaau |
ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਕੇ ਬਾਢਬੇ ਤੇ ਡਰਾਉ ॥੩੪॥
hridai granth ke baadtabe te ddaraau |34|
And if I describe the complete story from one end to the other, then I fear that the book will become very voluminous.34.

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:
ਕਿਉ ਭ੍ਰਮੀਐ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
kiau bhrameeai bhram kis kaa hoee |
Why do you doubt? What do you doubt?
ਜਾ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥
jaa jal thal maheeal raviaa soee |
God is pervading the water, the land and the sky.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥
guramukh ubare manamukh pat khoee |1|
The Gurmukhs are saved, while the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥
jis raakhai aap raam deaaraa |
One who is protected by the Merciful Lord
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis nahee doojaa ko pahuchanahaaraa |1| rahaau |
- no one else can rival him. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
sabh meh varatai ek anantaa |
The Infinite One is pervading among all.
ਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਉ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
taa toon sukh soau hoe achintaa |
So sleep in peace, and don't worry.
ਓਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
ohu sabh kichh jaanai jo varatantaa |2|
He knows everything which happens. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਜਿਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
manamukh mue jin doojee piaasaa |
The self-willed manmukhs are dying in the thirst of duality.
ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਵਹਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸਾ ॥
bahu jonee bhaveh dhur kirat likhiaasaa |
They wander lost through countless incarnations; this is their pre-ordained destiny.
ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਖਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
jaisaa beejeh taisaa khaasaa |3|
As they plant, so shall they harvest. ||3||
ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਵਿਗਾਸਾ ॥
dekh daras man bheaa vigaasaa |
Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my mind has blossomed forth.
ਸਭੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
sabh nadaree aaeaa braham paragaasaa |
And now everywhere I look, God is revealed to me.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੭੧॥
jan naanak kee har pooran aasaa |4|2|71|
Servant Nanak's hopes have been fulfilled by the Lord. ||4||2||71||

ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਭਏ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥
kee janam bhe keett patangaa |
In so many incarnations, you were a worm and an insect;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਜ ਮੀਨ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥
kee janam gaj meen kurangaa |
in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer.
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਰਪ ਹੋਇਓ ॥
kee janam pankhee sarap hoeo |
In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake.
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਹੈਵਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਖ ਜੋਇਓ ॥੧॥
kee janam haivar brikh joeo |1|
In so many incarnations, you were yoked as an ox and a horse. ||1||
ਮਿਲੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
mil jagadees milan kee bareea |
Meet the Lord of the Universe - now is the time to meet Him.
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸੰਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chirankaal ih deh sanjareea |1| rahaau |
After so very long, this human body was fashioned for you. ||1||Pause||
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਸੈਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
kee janam sail gir kariaa |
In so many incarnations, you were rocks and mountains;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਰਭ ਹਿਰਿ ਖਰਿਆ ॥
kee janam garabh hir khariaa |
in so many incarnations, you were aborted in the womb;
ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਸਾਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
kee janam saakh kar upaaeaa |
in so many incarnations, you developed branches and leaves;
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
lakh chauraaseeh jon bhramaaeaa |2|
you wandered through 8.4 million incarnations. ||2||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਇਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ॥
saadhasang bheo janam paraapat |
Through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you obtained this human life.
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ॥
kar sevaa bhaj har har guramat |
Do seva - selfless service; follow the Guru's Teachings, and vibrate the Lord's Name, Har, Har.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
tiaag maan jhootth abhimaan |
Abandon pride, falsehood and arrogance.
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jeevat mareh daragah paravaan |3|
Remain dead while yet alive, and you shall be welcomed in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੁ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
jo kichh hoaa su tujh te hog |
Whatever has been, and whatever shall be, comes from You, Lord.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
avar na doojaa karanai jog |
No one else can do anything at all.
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
taa mileeai jaa laihi milaae |
We are united with You, when You unite us with Yourself.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੨॥
kahu naanak har har gun gaae |4|3|72|
Says Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||72||
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਹਿ ਬੋਅਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
karam bhoom meh boahu naam |
In the field of karma, plant the seed of the Naam.
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਕਾਮੁ ॥
pooran hoe tumaaraa kaam |
Your works shall be brought to fruition.
ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥
fal paaveh mittai jam traas |
You shall obtain these fruits, and the fear of death shall be dispelled.
ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਸ ॥੧॥
nit gaaveh har har gun jaas |1|
Sing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har har naam antar ur dhaar |
Keep the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, enshrined in your heart,
ਸੀਘਰ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
seeghar kaaraj lehu savaar |1| rahaau |
and your affairs shall be quickly resolved. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਾਵਧਾਨੁ ॥
apane prabh siau hohu saavadhaan |
Be always attentive to your God;
ਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
taa toon daragah paaveh maan |
thus you shall be honored in His Court.
ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥
aukat siaanap sagalee tiaag |
Give up all your clever tricks and devices,
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੨॥
sant janaa kee charanee laag |2|
and hold tight to the Feet of the Saints. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਹਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
sarab jeea heh jaa kai haath |
The One, who holds all creatures in His Hands,
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
kade na vichhurrai sabh kai saath |
is never separated from them; He is with them all.
ਉਪਾਵ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਹੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਓਟ ॥
aupaav chhodd gahu tis kee ott |
Abandon your clever devices, and grasp hold of His Support.
ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਛੋਟਿ ॥੩॥
nimakh maeh hovai teree chhott |3|
In an instant, you shall be saved. ||3||
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
sadaa nikatt kar tis no jaan |
Know that He is always near at hand.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
prabh kee aagiaa sat kar maan |
Accept the Order of God as True.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਮਿਟਾਵਹੁ ਆਪੁ ॥
gur kai bachan mittaavahu aap |
Through the Guru's Teachings, eradicate selfishness and conceit.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਜਾਪੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੩॥
har har naam naanak jap jaap |4|4|73|
O Nanak, chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||4||73||
