ਕਬੀਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਾਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਨਿੰਦੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਰੀ ਕਉ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
kabeer nrip naaree kiau nindeeai kiau har cheree kau maan |
Kabeer, why do you slander the wife of the king? Why do you honor the slave of the Lord?
ਓਹ ਮਾਂਗ ਸਵਾਰੈ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਉ ਓਹ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧੬੦॥
oeh maang savaarai bikhai kau oeh simarai har naam |160|
Because one combs her hair for corruption, while the other remembers the Name of the Lord. ||160||
ਕਬੀਰ ਥੂਨੀ ਪਾਈ ਥਿਤਿ ਭਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧੀ ਧੀਰ ॥
kabeer thoonee paaee thit bhee satigur bandhee dheer |
Kabeer, with the Support of the Lord's Pillar, I have become steady and stable.
ਕਬੀਰ ਹੀਰਾ ਬਨਜਿਆ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੀਰ ॥੧੬੧॥
kabeer heeraa banajiaa maan sarovar teer |161|
The True Guru has given me courage. Kabeer, I have purchased the diamond, on the banks of the Mansarovar Lake. ||161||
ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਜਨ ਜਉਹਰੀ ਲੇ ਕੈ ਮਾਂਡੈ ਹਾਟ ॥
kabeer har heeraa jan jauharee le kai maanddai haatt |
Kabeer, the Lord is the Diamond, and the Lord's humble servant is the jeweller who has set up his shop.
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਤਬ ਹੀਰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਟ ॥੧੬੨॥
jab hee paaeeeh paarakhoo tab heeran kee saatt |162|
As soon as an appraiser is found, the price of the jewel is set. ||162||
ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਮ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਐਸਾ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਨਿਤ ॥
kabeer kaam pare har simareeai aisaa simarahu nit |
Kabeer, you remember the Lord in meditation, only when the need arises. You should remember Him all the time.
ਅਮਰਾ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਬਹੋਰੈ ਬਿਤ ॥੧੬੩॥
amaraa pur baasaa karahu har geaa bahorai bit |163|
You shall dwell in the city of immortality, and the Lord shall restore the wealth you lost. ||163||
ਕਬੀਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਭਲੇ ਏਕੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ॥
kabeer sevaa kau due bhale ek sant ik raam |
Kabeer, it is good to perform selfless service for two - the Saints and the Lord.
ਰਾਮੁ ਜੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੋ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧੬੪॥
raam ju daataa mukat ko sant japaavai naam |164|
The Lord is the Giver of liberation, and the Saint inspires us to chant the Naam. ||164||
ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਗਏ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੀ ਬਹੀਰ ॥
kabeer jih maarag panddit ge paachhai paree baheer |
Kabeer, the crowds follow the path which the Pandits, the religious scholars, have taken.
ਇਕ ਅਵਘਟ ਘਾਟੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਹ ਚੜਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੬੫॥
eik avaghatt ghaattee raam kee tih charr rahio kabeer |165|
There is a difficult and treacherous cliff on that path to the Lord; Kabeer is climbing that cliff. ||165||
ਕਬੀਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਦੋਖੇ ਮੂਆ ਚਾਲਤ ਕੁਲ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥
kabeer duneea ke dokhe mooaa chaalat kul kee kaan |
Kabeer, the mortal dies of his worldly troubles and pain, after worrying about his family.
ਤਬ ਕੁਲੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਲਾਜਸੀ ਜਬ ਲੇ ਧਰਹਿ ਮਸਾਨਿ ॥੧੬੬॥
tab kul kis kaa laajasee jab le dhareh masaan |166|
Whose family is dishonored, when he is placed on the funeral pyre? ||166||
ਕਬੀਰ ਡੂਬਹਿਗੋ ਰੇ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥
kabeer ddoobahigo re baapure bahu logan kee kaan |
Kabeer, you shall drown, you wretched being, from worrying about what other people think.
ਪਾਰੋਸੀ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਹੂਆ ਤੂ ਅਪਨੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧੬੭॥
paarosee ke jo hooaa too apane bhee jaan |167|
You know that whatever happens to your neighbors, will also happen to you. ||167||
ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੀ ਮਧੂਕਰੀ ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਜੁ ॥
kabeer bhalee madhookaree naanaa bidh ko naaj |
Kabeer, even dry bread, made of various grains, is good.
ਦਾਵਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬਡਾ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਡ ਰਾਜੁ ॥੧੬੮॥
daavaa kaahoo ko nahee baddaa des badd raaj |168|
No one brags about it, throughout the vast country and great empire. ||168||
ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਵੈ ਦਾਝਨੁ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਸੰਕ ॥
kabeer daavai daajhan hot hai niradaavai rahai nisank |
Kabeer, those who brag, shall burn. Those who do not brag remain carefree.
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਸੋ ਗਨੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਰੰਕ ॥੧੬੯॥
jo jan niradaavai rahai so ganai indr so rank |169|
That humble being who does not brag, looks upon the gods and the poor alike. ||169||
ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਲਿ ਸਮੁਹਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਭਰਾ ਪੀ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਨੀਰੁ ॥
kabeer paal samuhaa saravar bharaa pee na sakai koee neer |
Kabeer, the pool is filled to overflowing, but no one can drink the water from it.
ਭਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੂੰ ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਪੀਉ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੭੦॥
bhaag badde tai paaeo toon bhar bhar peeo kabeer |170|
By great good fortune, you have found it; drink it in handfuls, O Kabeer. ||170||
ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਭਾਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਇਹੁ ਖਿਸੈ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥
kabeer parabhaate taare khiseh tiau ihu khisai sareer |
Kabeer, just as the stars disappear at dawn, so shall this body disappear.
ਏ ਦੁਇ ਅਖਰ ਨਾ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੧੭੧॥
e due akhar naa khiseh so geh rahio kabeer |171|
Only the letters of God's Name do not disappear; Kabeer holds these tight. ||171||
ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋਠੀ ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਗਿ ॥
kabeer kotthee kaatth kee deh dis laagee aag |
Kabeer, the wooden house is burning on all sides.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਲਿ ਮੂਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਗਿ ॥੧੭੨॥
panddit panddit jal mooe moorakh ubare bhaag |172|
The Pandits, the religious scholars, have been burnt to death, while the illiterate ones run to safety. ||172||
ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੁ ਕਾਗਦ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥
kabeer sansaa door kar kaagad deh bihaae |
Kabeer, give up your skepticism; let your papers float away.
ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਸੋਧਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੭੩॥
baavan akhar sodh kai har charanee chit laae |173|
Find the essence of the letters of the alphabet, and focus your consciousness on the Lord. ||173||
ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਛਾਡੈ ਸੰਤਈ ਜਉ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਅਸੰਤ ॥
kabeer sant na chhaaddai santee jau kottik mileh asant |
Kabeer, the Saint does not forsake his Saintly nature, even though he meets with millions of evil-doers.
ਮਲਿਆਗਰੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮ ਬੇਢਿਓ ਤ ਸੀਤਲਤਾ ਨ ਤਜੰਤ ॥੧੭੪॥
maliaagar bhuyangam bedtio ta seetalataa na tajant |174|
Even when sandalwood is surrounded by snakes, it does not give up its cooling fragrance. ||174||
ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
kabeer man seetal bheaa paaeaa braham giaan |
Kabeer, my mind is cooled and soothed; I have become God-conscious.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਰਿਆ ਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਉਦਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥੧੭੫॥
jin juaalaa jag jaariaa su jan ke udak samaan |175|
The fire which has burnt the world is like water to the Lord's humble servant. ||175||
ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
kabeer saaree sirajanahaar kee jaanai naahee koe |
Kabeer, no one knows the Play of the Creator Lord.
ਕੈ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਨ ਧਨੀ ਕੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦੀਵਾਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੭੬॥
kai jaanai aapan dhanee kai daas deevaanee hoe |176|
Only the Lord Himself and the slaves at His Court understand it. ||176||
ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੀ ਭਈ ਜੋ ਭਉ ਪਰਿਆ ਦਿਸਾ ਗਈਁ ਸਭ ਭੂਲਿ ॥
kabeer bhalee bhee jo bhau pariaa disaa gee sabh bhool |
Kabeer, it is good that I feel the Fear of God; I have forgotten everything else.
ਓਰਾ ਗਰਿ ਪਾਨੀ ਭਇਆ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਢਲਿ ਕੂਲਿ ॥੧੭੭॥
oraa gar paanee bheaa jaae milio dtal kool |177|
The hail-stone has melted into water, and flowed into the ocean. ||177||
