ਗੁਸਾਂਈ ਗਰਿਸ੍ਟ ਰੂਪੇਣ ਸਿਮਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਣਹ ॥

The Lord of the World is Supremely Beautiful; His Meditation is the Life of all.
ਲਬਧੵੰ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਮਾਰਗ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਣਹ ॥੫੪॥
labadhayan sant sangen naanak svachh maarag har bhagatanah |54|
In the Society of the Saints, O Nanak, He is found on the path of devotional worship of the Lord. ||54||
ਮਸਕੰ ਭਗਨੰਤ ਸੈਲੰ ਕਰਦਮੰ ਤਰੰਤ ਪਪੀਲਕਹ ॥
masakan bhaganant sailan karadaman tarant papeelakah |
The mosquito pierces the stone, the ant crosses the swamp,
ਸਾਗਰੰ ਲੰਘੰਤਿ ਪਿੰਗੰ ਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਅੰਧਕਹ ॥
saagaran langhant pingan tam paragaas andhakah |
the cripple crosses the ocean, and the blind sees in the darkness,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੫੫॥
saadh sangen simarant gobind saran naanak har har hare |55|
meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||55||
ਤਿਲਕ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਾ ਅਮਰ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਰਾਜਨਹ ॥
tilak heenan jathaa bipraa amar heenan jathaa raajanah |
Like a Brahmin without a sacred mark on his forehead, or a king without the power of command,
ਆਵਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਸੂਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਰਮ ਹੀਣੰ ਤਥਾ ਬੈਸ੍ਨਵਹ ॥੫੬॥
aavadh heenan jathaa sooraa naanak dharam heenan tathaa baisanavah |56|
or a warrior without weapons, so is the devotee of God without Dharmic Faith. ||56||
ਨ ਸੰਖੰ ਨ ਚਕ੍ਰੰ ਨ ਗਦਾ ਨ ਸਿਆਮੰ ॥
n sankhan na chakran na gadaa na siaaman |
God has no conch-shell, no religious mark, no paraphernalia; he does not have blue skin.
ਅਸ੍ਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੰ ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ॥
ascharaj roopan rahant janaman |
His Form is Wondrous and Amazing. He is beyond incarnation.
ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਥੰਤਿ ਬੇਦਾ ॥
net net kathant bedaa |
The Vedas say that He is not this, and not that.
ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ॥
aooch mooch apaar gobindah |
The Lord of the Universe is Lofty and High, Great and Infinite.
ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਅਚੁਤ ਬੁਝੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗੀਅਹ ॥੫੭॥
basant saadh ridayan achut bujhant naanak baddabhaageeah |57|
The Imperishable Lord abides in the hearts of the Holy. He is understood, O Nanak, by those who are very fortunate. ||57||
ਉਦਿਆਨ ਬਸਨੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੰ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਖਰਹ ॥
audiaan basanan sansaaran sanabandhee svaan siaal kharah |
Living in the world, it is like a wild jungle. One's relatives are like dogs, jackals and donkeys.
ਬਿਖਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਦਿਰੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਅਸਾਧ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥
bikham sathaan man moh madiran mahaan asaadh panch tasakarah |
In this difficult place, the mind is intoxicated with the wine of emotional attachment; the five unconquered thieves lurk there.
ਹੀਤ ਮੋਹ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੰ ਅਹੰ ਫਾਂਸ ਤੀਖੵਣ ਕਠਿਨਹ ॥
heet moh bhai bharam bhramanan ahan faans teekhayan katthinah |
The mortals wander lost in love and emotional attachment, fear and doubt; they are caught in the sharp, strong noose of egotism.
ਪਾਵਕ ਤੋਅ ਅਸਾਧ ਘੋਰੰ ਅਗਮ ਤੀਰ ਨਹ ਲੰਘਨਹ ॥
paavak toa asaadh ghoran agam teer neh langhanah |
The ocean of fire is terrifying and impassable. The distant shore is so far away; it cannot be reached.
ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਉਧਰਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ॥੫੮॥
bhaj saadhasang goupaal naanak har charan saran udharan kripaa |58|
Vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; O Nanak, by His Grace, we are saved at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||58||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲਹ ਸਗਲੵੰ ਰੋਗ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
kripaa karant gobind gopaalah sagalayan rog khanddanah |
When the Lord of the Universe grants His Grace, all illnesses are cured.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥੫੯॥
saadh sangen gun ramat naanak saran pooran paramesurah |59|
Nanak chants His Glorious Praises in the Saadh Sangat, in the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord God. ||59||
ਸਿਆਮਲੰ ਮਧੁਰ ਮਾਨੁਖੵੰ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਭੂਮਿ ਵੈਰਣਹ ॥
siaamalan madhur maanukhayan ridayan bhoom vairanah |
The mortal is beautiful and speaks sweet words, but in the farm of his heart, he harbors cruel vengeance.
ਨਿਵੰਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤਿ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਚੇਤਨੰ ਸੰਤ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੬੦॥
nivant hovant mithiaa chetanan sant svajanah |60|
He pretends to bow in worship, but he is false. Beware of him, O friendly Saints. ||60||
ਅਚੇਤ ਮੂੜਾ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਤ ਘਟੰਤ ਸਾਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੇ ॥
achet moorraa na jaanant ghattant saasaa nit prate |
The thoughtless fool does not know that each day, his breaths are being used up.
ਛਿਜੰਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕਾਲ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਤੇ ॥
chhijant mahaa sundaree kaaneaa kaal kaniaa graasate |
His most beautiful body is wearing away; old age, the daughter of death, has seized it.
ਰਚੰਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਨੋਦ ॥
rachant purakhah kuttanb leelaa anit aasaa bikhiaa binod |
He is engrossed in family play; placing his hopes in transitory things, he indulges in corrupt pleasures.
ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥੬੧॥
bhramant bhramant bahu janam haario saran naanak karunaa mayah |61|
Wandering lost in countless incarnations, he is exhausted. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Embodiment of Mercy. ||61||
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਬੇ ਹੇ ਰਸਗੇ ਮਧੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਤੁਯੰ ॥
he jihabe he rasage madhur pria tuyan |
O tongue, you love to enjoy the sweet delicacies.
ਸਤ ਹਤੰ ਪਰਮ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਵਰਤ ਏਥਹ ਸੁਧ ਅਛਰਣਹ ॥
sat hatan param baadan avarat ethah sudh achharanah |
You are dead to the Truth, and involved in great disputes. Instead, repeat the holy words:
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵੇ ॥੬੨॥
gobind daamodar maadhave |62|
Gobind, Daamodar, Maadhav. ||62||
ਗਰਬੰਤਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਦੋਨ ਮਤੰ ॥
garabant naaree madon matan |
Those who are proud, and intoxicated with the pleasures of sex,
ਬਲਵੰਤ ਬਲਾਤ ਕਾਰਣਹ ॥
balavant balaat kaaranah |
and asserting their power over others,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਹ ਭਜੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜਨਮਨਹ ॥
charan kamal neh bhajant trin samaan dhrig janamanah |
never contemplate the Lord's Lotus Feet. Their lives are cursed, and as worthless as straw.
ਹੇ ਪਪੀਲਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਟੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਯੰ ਧਨੇ ॥
he papeelakaa grasatte gobind simaran tuyan dhane |
You are as tiny and insignificant as an ant, but you shall become great, by the Wealth of the Lord's Meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਹ ॥੬੩॥
naanak anik baar namo namah |63|
Nanak bows in humble worship, countless times, over and over again. ||63||
ਤ੍ਰਿਣੰ ਤ ਮੇਰੰ ਸਹਕੰ ਤ ਹਰੀਅੰ ॥
trinan ta meran sahakan ta hareean |
The blade of grass becomes a mountain, and the barren land becomes green.
ਬੂਡੰ ਤ ਤਰੀਅੰ ਊਣੰ ਤ ਭਰੀਅੰ ॥
booddan ta tareean aoonan ta bhareean |
The drowning one swims across, and the empty is filled to overflowing.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰੰ ॥
andhakaar kott soor ujaaran |
Millions of suns illuminate the darkness,
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਰੰ ॥੬੪॥
binavant naanak har gur dayaaran |64|
prays Nanak, when the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||64||

ਹੋ ਜੋ ਜੀਯ ਭੀਤਰ ਕੋਪ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਦਿਖਾਰਹੀ ॥੨੬॥

doaoo raavee raav joojhe karaare |
ਮਚਿਯੋ ਲੋਹ ਗਾਢੌ ਉਠੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾ ॥
machiyo loh gaadtau utthee agan jvaalaa |
ਭਈ ਤੇਜ ਤੌਨੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਏਕ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੨੮॥
bhee tej tauane hute ek baalaa |28|
ਤਿਸੀ ਕੋਪ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਬਾਲ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ॥
tisee kop kee agan te baal hvai kai |
ਹਸੀ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਔ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥
hasee haath mai sasatr aau asatr lai kai |
ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਆਨੂਪ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
mahaa roop aanoop taa ko biraajai |
ਲਖੇ ਤੇਜ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸਸੀ ਸੂਰ ਲਾਜੈ ॥੨੯॥

ਫਿਰ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
fir jiy mai ih bhaat bichaaree |
ਬਰੌ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਪਤਿਹਿ ਸੁਧਾਰੀ ॥
barau jagat ke patihi sudhaaree |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਰੌ ਦੀਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
taa te karau deen hvai sevaa |
ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੩੧॥
hoe prasan kaalikaa devaa |31|
ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਚਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੀਏ ਸੁਮੰਤ੍ਰਾ ॥
adhik suchit hvai kee sumantraa |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਨ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਜੰਤ੍ਰਾ ॥
bhaat bhaat tan likh likh jantraa |
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਗ ਮਾਤ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥
kripaa karee jag maat bhavaanee |
ਇਹ ਬਿਧ ਬਤਿਯਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥੩੨॥
eih bidh batiyaa taeh bakhaanee |32|
ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੋਕ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਤੈ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ॥
kar jin sok hridai tai putree |
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਬਰਿ ਹੈ ਤੁਹਿ ਅਤ੍ਰੀ ॥
nirankaar bar hai tuhi atree |
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਧ︀ਯਾਨ ਆਜੁ ਨਿਸਿ ਧਰਿਯਹੁ ॥
taa kaa dhayaan aaj nis dhariyahu |
ਕਹਿਹੈ ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ॥੩੩॥
kahihai ju kachh soee tum kariyahu |33|
ਜਬ ਅਸ ਬਰ ਤਿਹ ਦਿਯੋ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥
jab as bar tih diyo bhavaanee |
ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਤ ਭਈ ਜਗਤ ਕੀ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
prafulit bhee jagat kee raanee |
ਅਤਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਿਸਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਛਿਤ ਸੋਈ ॥
at pavitr nis hvai chhit soee |
ਜਿਹ ਠਾ ਔਰ ਨ ਦੂਸਰ ਕੋਈ ॥੩੪॥
jih tthaa aauar na doosar koee |34|
ਅਰਧ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਬੀਤਤ ਭੀ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
aradh raatr beetat bhee jab hee |
ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਭਈ ਨਾਥ ਕੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥
aagayaa bhee naath kee tab hee |
ਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਬੀਰਜ ਦਾਨਵ ਜਬ ਮਰਿ ਹੈ ॥
svaas beeraj daanav jab mar hai |
ਤਿਹ ਪਾਛੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਬਰਿ ਹੈ ॥੩੫॥
tih paachhe sundar muhi bar hai |35|
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਿਹ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਜਬ ਭਈ ॥
eih bidh tih aagayaa jab bhee |
ਦਿਨਮਨਿ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਰੈਨਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ॥
dinaman charriyo rain mitt gee |
ਸਾਜੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥
saaje sasatr chanchalaa tab hee |
ਰਨ ਕੌ ਚਲੀ ਸਾਥ ਲੈ ਸਬ ਹੀ ॥੩੬॥
