ਹੇ ਅਜਿਤ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮੰ ਅਤਿ ਬਲਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਮਰਦਨਹ ॥
he ajit soor sangraaman at balanaa bahu maradanah |
O emotional attachment, you are the invincible warrior of the battlefield of life; you totally crush and destroy even the most powerful.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਦੇਵ ਮਾਨੁਖੵੰ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਮੋਹਨਹ ॥
gan gandharab dev maanukhayan pas pankhee bimohanah |
You entice and fascinate even the heavenly heralds, celestial singers, gods, mortals, beasts and birds.
ਹਰਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗਦੀਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥੪੫॥
har karanahaaran namasakaaran saran naanak jagadeesvarah |45|
Nanak bows in humble surrender to the Lord; he seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Universe. ||45||
ਹੇ ਕਾਮੰ ਨਰਕ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੰ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਵਣਹ ॥
he kaaman narak bisraaman bahu jonee bhramaavanah |
O sexual desire, you lead the mortals to hell; you make them wander in reincarnation through countless species.
ਚਿਤ ਹਰਣੰ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਕ ਗੰਮੵੰ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੀਲ ਬਿਦਾਰਣਹ ॥
chit haranan trai lok gamayan jap tap seel bidaaranah |
You cheat the consciousness, and pervade the three worlds. You destroy meditation, penance and virtue.
ਅਲਪ ਸੁਖ ਅਵਿਤ ਚੰਚਲ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸਮਾਵਣਹ ॥
alap sukh avit chanchal aooch neech samaavanah |
But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low.
ਤਵ ਭੈ ਬਿਮੁੰਚਿਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਹ ॥੪੬॥
tav bhai bimunchit saadh sangam ott naanak naaraaeinah |46|
Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord. ||46||
ਹੇ ਕਲਿ ਮੂਲ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੰ ਕਦੰਚ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਨ ਉਪਰਜਤੇ ॥
he kal mool krodhan kadanch karunaa na uparajate |
O anger, you are the root of conflict; compassion never rises up in you.
ਬਿਖਯੰਤ ਜੀਵੰ ਵਸੵੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਨਿਰਤੵੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਜਥਾ ਮਰਕਟਹ ॥
bikhayant jeevan vasayan karot niratayan karot jathaa marakattah |
You take the corrupt, sinful beings in your power, and make them dance like monkeys.
ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਸਨ ਤਾੜੰਤਿ ਜਮਦੂਤਹ ਤਵ ਸੰਗੇ ਅਧਮੰ ਨਰਹ ॥
anik saasan taarrant jamadootah tav sange adhaman narah |
Associating with you, mortals are debased and punished by the Messenger of Death in so many ways.
ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਦਯਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਰਖੵਾ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੪੭॥
deen dukh bhanjan dayaal prabh naanak sarab jeea rakhayaa karot |47|
O Destroyer of the pains of the poor, O Merciful God, Nanak prays for You to protect all begins from such anger. ||47||
ਹੇ ਲੋਭਾ ਲੰਪਟ ਸੰਗ ਸਿਰਮੋਰਹ ਅਨਿਕ ਲਹਰੀ ਕਲੋਲਤੇ ॥
he lobhaa lanpatt sang siramorah anik laharee kalolate |
O greed, you cling to even the great, assaulting them with countless waves.
ਧਾਵੰਤ ਜੀਆ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਡੋਲਤੇ ॥
dhaavant jeea bahu prakaaran anik bhaant bahu ddolate |
You cause them to run around wildly in all directions, wobbling and wavering unsteadily.
ਨਚ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੰ ਨਚ ਇਸਟੰ ਨਚ ਬਾਧਵ ਨਚ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਵ ਲਜਯਾ ॥
nach mitran nach isattan nach baadhav nach maat pitaa tav lajayaa |
You have no respect for friends, ideals, relations, mother or father.
ਅਕਰਣੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਅਖਾਦੵਿ ਖਾਦੵੰ ਅਸਾਜੵੰ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਮਜਯਾ ॥
akaranan karot akhaaday khaadayan asaajayan saaj samajayaa |
You make them do what they should not do. You make them eat what they should not eat. You make them accomplish what they should not accomplish.
ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਗੵਾਪ੍ਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਰਹਰਹ ॥੪੮॥
traeh traeh saran suaamee bigayaapt naanak har naraharah |48|
Save me, save me - I have come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord and Master; Nanak prays to the Lord. ||48||
ਹੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮੂਲੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੰ ਪਾਪਾਤਮਾ ॥
he janam maran moolan ahankaaran paapaatamaa |
O egotism, you are the root of birth and death and the cycle of reincarnation; you are the very soul of sin.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰੰ ਤਜੰਤਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੰਤਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਯਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਤੀਰਨਹ ॥
mitran tajant satran drirrant anik maayaa bisteeranah |
You forsake friends, and hold tight to enemies. You spread out countless illusions of Maya.
ਆਵੰਤ ਜਾਵੰਤ ਥਕੰਤ ਜੀਆ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਬਹੁ ਭੋਗਣਹ ॥
aavant jaavant thakant jeea dukh sukh bahu bhoganah |
You cause the living beings to come and go until they are exhausted. You lead them to experience pain and pleasure.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਯਾਨ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥
bhram bhayaan udiaan ramanan mahaa bikatt asaadh roganah |
You lead them to wander lost in the terrible wilderness of doubt; you lead them to contract the most horrible, incurable diseases.
ਬੈਦੵੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੪੯॥
baidayan paarabraham paramesvar aaraadh naanak har har hare |49|
The only Physician is the Supreme Lord, the Transcendent Lord God. Nanak worships and adores the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||49||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਨਾਥ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜਗਦ ਗੁਰੋ ॥
he praan naath gobindah kripaa nidhaan jagad guro |
O Lord of the Universe, Master of the Breath of life, Treasure of Mercy, Guru of the World.
ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਣਹ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੋ ॥
he sansaar taap haranah karunaa mai sabh dukh haro |
O Destroyer of the fever of the world, Embodiment of Compassion, please take away all my pain.
ਹੇ ਸਰਣਿ ਜੋਗ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਮਯਾ ਕਰੋ ॥
he saran jog dayaalah deenaa naath mayaa karo |
O Merciful Lord, Potent to give Sanctuary, Master of the meek and humble, please be kind to me.
ਸਰੀਰ ਸ੍ਵਸਥ ਖੀਣ ਸਮਏ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵਹ ॥੫੦॥
sareer svasath kheen same simarant naanak raam daamodar maadhavah |50|
Whether his body is healthy or sick, let Nanak meditate in remembrance on You, Lord. ||50||
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣੰ ਰਮਣੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥
charan kamal saranan ramanan gopaal keeratanah |
I have come to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet, where I sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਤਰਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਾ ਸਾਗਰ ਭੈ ਦੁਤਰਹ ॥੫੧॥
saadh sangen taranan naanak mahaa saagar bhai dutarah |51|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak is carried across the utterly terrifying, difficult world-ocean. ||51||
ਸਿਰ ਮਸ੍ਤਕ ਰਖੵਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੰ ਹਸ੍ਤ ਕਾਯਾ ਰਖੵਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥
sir mastak rakhayaa paarabrahaman hast kaayaa rakhayaa paramesvarah |
The Supreme Lord God has procted my head and forehead; the Transcendent Lord has protected my hands and body.
ਆਤਮ ਰਖੵਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਧਨ ਚਰਣ ਰਖੵਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥
aatam rakhayaa gopaal suaamee dhan charan rakhayaa jagadeesvarah |
God, my Lord and Master, has saved my soul; the Lord of the Universe has saved my wealth and feet.
ਸਰਬ ਰਖੵਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਭੈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥
sarab rakhayaa gur dayaalah bhai dookh binaasanah |
The Merciful Guru has protected everything, and destroyed my fear and suffering.
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥੇ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਚੁਤਹ ॥੫੨॥
bhagat vachhal anaath naathe saran naanak purakh achutah |52|
God is the Lover of His devotees, the Master of the masterless. Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Imperishable Primal Lord God. ||52||
ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਆਕਾਸੰ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੰ ਕਾਸਟ ਬੇਸਟੰ ॥
jen kalaa dhaario aakaasan baisantaran kaasatt besattan |
His Power supports the sky, and locks fire within wood.
ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਸਸਿ ਸੂਰ ਨਖੵਤ੍ਰ ਜੋਤੵਿੰ ਸਾਸੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਧਾਰਣੰ ॥
jen kalaa sas soor nakhayatr jotayin saasan sareer dhaaranan |
His Power supports the moon, the sun and the stars, and infuses light and breath into the body.
ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੰ ਨਹ ਛੇਦੰਤ ਜਠਰ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥
jen kalaa maat garabh pratipaalan neh chhedant jatthar roganah |
His Power provides nourishment in the womb of the mother, and does not let disease strike.
ਤੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਸਰੋਵਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਿਜੰਤਿ ਤਰੰਗ ਤੋਯਣਹ ॥੫੩॥
ten kalaa asathanbhan sarovaran naanak neh chhijant tarang toyanah |53|
His Power holds back the ocean, O Nanak, and does not allow the waves of water to destroy the land. ||53||
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥
bhujang prayaat chhand |
ਕਹਾ ਲੌ ਬਖਾਨੌ ਮਹਾ ਲੋਹ ਮਚਿਯੋ ॥
kahaa lau bakhaanau mahaa loh machiyo |
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਏਕੈ ਨ ਬਚਿਯੋ ॥
duhoon or te beer ekai na bachiyo |
ਤਬੈ ਆਨਿ ਜੂਟੇ ਦੋਊ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ॥
tabai aan jootte doaoo chhatradhaaree |
ਪਰਾ ਲੋਹ ਗਾੜੋ ਕੰਪੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
paraa loh gaarro kanpee bhoom saaree |24|
ਜੁਟੇ ਰਾਵ ਦੋਊ ਉਠੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਐਸੀ ॥
jutte raav doaoo utthee dhoor aisee |
ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੀ ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਜੈਸੀ ॥
pralai kaal kee agan kee dhoomr jaisee |
ਨ ਹਾਥੈ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਤਹਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
n haathai pasaaraa tahaa drisatt aavai |
ਕਛੂ ਭੂਮਿ ਆਕਾਸ ਹੇਰੋ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੨੫॥
